One is never enough—Here are All the Outfits You’ll Wear For Your Wedding

The average 2026 bride wears not one, but five different outfits for her wedding. Read on for a tour of the ever-expanding bridal wardrobe.

For some brides, weddings are the once-in-a-lifetime chance to unleash their inner fashion diva. It’s a multi-event celebration, where fans—also known as family and friends—crowd around to witness her in the spotlight. What with a team of photographers, videographers, and perhaps even a content creator being paid to shoot and edit right there and then, there’s plenty of excuse to treat the aisle like one’s personal runway. And thanks to the surge in weddings being curated for the feed, the bridal wardrobe is steadily expanding, where every outfit transition “eats” before the guests even arrive.

Rehearsal dinner dress, tea ceremony kua, matrimony gown—these are just some of the various looks brides get to strut around in for their wedding. To be exact, the average 2026 bride changes in and out of a grand total of five outfits across the celebrations. Brides who aren’t huge fans of dressing up aren’t necessarily spared—events such as the pre-wedding betrothal ceremony or the ROM solemnisation, no matter how minimalist, will still have one mulling over what counts as presentable wear.

To benefit brides who aren’t yet familiar with what to expect, we list out all the different outfits one might commonly need for their wedding—so budgeting, browsing and scheduling fittings can be planned for in advance. Of course, if costuming just isn’t your thing, there’s no pressure to wear it all—lesser changes means more time to soak in every emotional moment of the day. As most would agree, the key to a memorable celebration is ultimately about finding a balance between looking and feeling good from start to finish.

1. ROM or Civil Solemnisation Outfit

For couples who hold the ROM or civil solemnisation before the wedding day, the outfit is often a chic, understated look that differs from the main wedding gown. Think: elegant dresses or minimalist ensembles that feel significant enough for the momentous occasion without overshadowing the wedding-day attire.

2. Betrothal Ceremony Outfit

Cultural betrothal traditions such as the Guo Da Li, Sangjit, merisik and bertunang, or Indian engagement ceremony see brides choosing an outfit that honours their heritage. Traditional attire or modern interpretations of cultural dress are popular choices for these pre-wedding rituals.

3. Bridal Shower or Hen’s Party Outfit

While not always included in every wedding itinerary, bridal showers and bachelorette celebrations are typically themed events that give rise to their own playful fashion moments.

4. Rehearsal or Welcome Dinner Outfit

Rehearsal and welcome dinners are commonly seen as an opportunity for brides to experiment with a different aesthetic before the wedding day. Many brides gravitate towards brighter and more vibrant looks that are elevated yet relaxed, such as sophisticated cocktail wear or sleek midi dresses.

5. Morning Robe or Getting-Ready Outfit

One of the most photographed events of the wedding day are the morning preparations, where silk robes, matching bridal party pajama sets, lace-trimmed dressing gowns or personalised loungewear make a comfortable yet polished appearance while hair and make-up styling is underway.

6. Traditional Ceremony Attire

Traditional attire often takes centre stage in cultural customs observed on the wedding day, such as the tea ceremony. Kebayas, kuas, qipaos, sarees, lehengas, and baju kurungs are some of the widely-worn garments during such events.

7. Matrimony Gown

The most stress-inducing gown is none other than the matrimony gown. Worn during the exchange of vows, this gown is of utmost importance, so it only makes sense for brides to spend significant amounts of time searching for the dream fit. Whether it’s a grand ball gown, A-line silhouette, or couture masterpiece, this look is the unrivalled centrepiece of the bridal wardrobe.

8. Reception Entrance Look

Changing into a different outfit for a dramatic, grand entrance at the reception is a given for most brides. Reception gowns might provide greater ease of movement, balancing elegance with comfort for mingling and dining. Some might have multiple looks throughout the night, showcasing various aesthetics ranging from glamorous, embellished dresses, to contemporary and fashion-forward statement pieces.

9. Afterparty Dress

The real fun only begins after the formalities conclude. Sparkling mini dresses, feather-trimmed jumpsuits, and dance-appropriate outfits allow brides to fully immerse themselves in the festivities without having to worry about managing a voluminous train or restrictive silhouette.

10. Pre-Wedding Photoshoot Outfits

Pre-wedding shoots that take place before the wedding involve several wardrobe changes. From flamboyant gowns and tuxedos to casual and homely couple looks, these outfits are an essential component of the overall bridal fashion journey.
