Over 40 Popular Solemnisers in Singapore For 2022/2023 Weddings

We’ve updated our list of solemnisers with the latest license expiry and contact details, and images.

The solemnisation ceremony is hands-down the most important component of your wedding and every detail involved should be nothing less than perfect, and that includes having the perfect officiant to marry you and the love of your life. Unless you already have an officiant in mind, you’ll have to search through the long list of available solemnisers on the Registry of Marriage’s (ROM) site to find an officiant for your wedding.

To save you the time and hassle of going through the entire list, we’ve put together a list of over 40 popular solemnisers in Singapore who are still officiating weddings in 2022/2023, all highly sought after by real brides, to help you find the solemniser for your dream solemnisation.

As our list is updated only yearly, once you have selected a solemniser of your liking, do double check the license expiry date via the ROM website to prevent any disappointment.

About Engaging A Solemniser

Before we get to the list of solemnisers, let’s talk about some of the most commonly asked questions about engaging a solemniser in Singapore.

1. Do I need a solemniser?

Your solemnisation ceremony is the act of you officially marrying your partner-of-choice in the eyes of the law, and a licensed solemniser is required to marry you and your partner-of-choice. A licensed solemniser will officiate the ceremony and verify all legal documents, ensure that both parties consent to the marriage, and facilitate the signing of the Certificate of Marriage.

Licensed solemnisers are also sometimes marriage advisors as they provide valuable marriage preparation and marriage advice and information to the couples.

2. When Do I Need to Engage A Solemniser?

Whether you need to engage a solemniser depends on where you are planning to host your solemnisation ceremony. If you are planning to hold your solemnisation at a venue outside of the Registry of Marriage (ROM), then you’ll need to engage a solemniser from our updated list of ROM-approved officiants below.

For couples who are solemnising at the ROM, you do not need to search for a solemniser as one will be assigned to you.

3. How do I choose a solemniser?

Rachel and Hui’s Tropical Eclectic Wedding at Corner House by Yipmage Moments and Rheza Paleva

There is no hard and fast rule on how to choose a solemniser. Every solemniser will have their own style of hosting the solemnisation ceremony and own preference of language to use. Some solemnisers like to cut to the chase and go straight to the point, while others like to inject a funny or touching anecdote before the vows.

Ask yourselves what you prefer – a short and sweet ceremony or one that is filled with anecdotes. Then, speak to your chosen solemniser and ask how they usually host a solemnisation ceremony so you can decide if you’d like to go with them or choose another solemniser who suits your preference.

4. When Should I Start Looking For A Solemniser?

Some solemnisers are extremely popular so most brides would recommend that you book your chosen solemniser at least three months before your solemnisation date to ensure that you get your choice for your wedding. If you’ve chosen one of the more popular solemnisers, you might want to contact him or her more than three months in advance to check on their availability and if they accept bookings more than three months in advance, and book their services.

5. Do I Need To Meet Up With My Chosen Solemniser?

Once you have confirmed a solemniser, you should meet up with him or her in person to sign the Solemniser Consent Form and go through the order of events for your wedding. You can also ask your solemniser to explain how the solemnisation process will proceed so that you have a better idea and can prepare for it.

During your meet-up with the solemniser, you should also seize the opportunity to get to know them better and find out what their style of hosting a solemnisation is. If it isn’t what you are hoping to achieve for your solemnisation, take the chance to discuss your preferred style with your chosen solemniser and come to a mutually agreeable agreement.

6. Do I Need to Pay My Chosen Solemniser?

While solemnisers do not charge a fee for their services, it is only courteous to gift them with a token of appreciation for taking time and effort to officiate your wedding. The amount gifted is entirely up to you, but if you are unsure of how much you should gift them, don’t be afraid to ask how much he/she usually receives from previous weddings they’ve officiated. Most solemnisers are quite open to share about how much they’ve received in the past, so you can use that as a gauge.

7. Do I Need to Invite My Chosen Solemniser To Stay For The Wedding Banquet?

Most solemnisers usually leave after the solemnisation ceremony is over and do not join the celebrations after. Hence, it is not necessary to include them in the celebrations. However, double check with them if they wish or expect to join in the celebration after the solemnisation ceremony to avoid any misunderstanding on the day itself.

8. What Should I Do If My Solemniser Does Not/Cannot Turn Up On The Day Itself?

In the event that your solemniser is unable to turn up as promised, he or she will inform you and arrange for his or her buddy solemniser to solemnise you. However, if circumstances do not allow for your chosen solemniser to notify you or his/her buddy solemniser, then you should contact his/her buddy solemniser instead. Therefore, it is important for you to ask for his/her buddy’s contact during your meet-up so you’ll know who to contact in the event of an emergency.

If you can neither reach your chosen solemniser or his/her buddy solemniser, you next two best options would be to go to ROM’s website to invite a solemniser who can come almost immediately to the wedding venue, or carry on with the rest of the wedding planned and head to ROM with your marriage documents and two witnesses by the next working day.
