Amabelle and Bryan’s Joyous White Botanical Wedding at Goodwood Park Hotel
Like their bright, joyful personalities, Amabelle and Bryan exchanged their “I do’s” in a celebration filled with warmth, laughter, and heartfelt delight.
When Amabelle, 28, Photographer, first crossed paths with Bryan, 27, Data Analyst, nine years ago at a RED Camp Student Leader Inauguration in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, it felt like love at first sight. But it wasn’t until a year later that their connection deepened and they found soulmates in one another. Fast forward eight years, one heartfelt surprise proposal, and countless shared memories later, the couple celebrated their love in a warm, joy-filled wedding at Goodwood Park Hotel, surrounded by the people who have cheered them on from the very beginning.
What drew you to each other?
Amabelle: It started as a small crush on him in our second year, but it was during our third year of polytechnic, when we returned as student leaders for RED Camp again, that things really clicked. We also both live in the East, so going home together gave us many chances to talk, get to know each other better, and realise that our values and outlook on life aligned — especially when it came to the future.
What is it about your partner that you love the most?
Amabelle: His charisma — no one is ever bored when he’s around! I also love how deeply he values family, always prioritising time with them and dropping everything to be there for his parents and siblings whenever they need him.
Bryan: Her drive and determination to succeed in her business — she really inspires me. I also love how patient, kind, and giving she is, not just to her family but also to her friends.
What was the moment that made you realise that he/she was the one for you?
Both: There wasn’t a single defining moment. It was more about all the ups and downs we went through together — the shared effort, commitment, and growth. Over time, we simply knew that we wanted to keep doing life together.
Bryan, how did you go about planning the proposal? Where did it take place, and were there any challenges/obstacles during the process?
Since Amabelle is a wedding photographer, she’s often the one giving other guys tips on how to plan their proposals — which made it extra challenging for me to come up with the perfect surprise.
I started by meeting her parents, siblings, and their partners separately to ask for their blessing. After that, I roped in my friend (who’s also one of my groomsmen) to pose as a potential client enquiring about a graduation photoshoot. The proposal took place at the Swan Lake Gazebo in Botanic Gardens.
To make everything seem natural, my parents joined in on the plan — we told Amabelle that we’d be celebrating Father’s Day after her “photoshoot” at Dempsey. That way, she’d dress up in a nice outfit instead of her usual photographer attire of shorts and a T-shirt.
Amabelle, did you know a proposal was coming before it happened, or were you taken completely by surprise?
I had one condition before he could propose — that it can only happen after I got my braces removed. What I didn’t expect was for him to do it just one day after they came off! I knew the proposal would probably happen sometime in 2024, but I was completely surprised by how he planned everything — especially how he got my friends involved to decorate the place.
Take us back to your wedding day – What was your wedding planning like?
Bryan: Since Amabelle is the youngest in her family, she already knew her parents’ non-negotiables — and a dinner banquet was a must! We went with a white botanical theme, weaving little hints of us into every element of the day.
Amabelle, did your experience as a wedding photographer help with your wedding planning journey?
Having photographed so many weddings, I definitely knew what mattered most — lighting! That played a big role in choosing our venue, so we didn’t need to do much location scouting since I already knew which hotels had the best natural light (and which to avoid — though every venue has its own charm!).
My main goal was just to get Bryan to approve the details I presented to him. Being a bit of a Type A personality, I had the schedule mapped out early on — I kind of knew how the whole day would flow even before we got engaged!
Take us back to your wedding day. What was the day like and how were you feeling?
Bryan: It felt surreal — after eight long years together, we were finally getting married. I told myself to just have fun and be present throughout the day. I didn’t expect to tear up during my brother’s speech at the end though!
Amabelle: I had to remind myself several times throughout the day to just let go and enjoy the moment — it all went by so quickly! I remember being a little stressed the night before, worrying about anything that could go wrong, but thankfully, we had a solid bridal party who ran the show perfectly.
What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?
Bryan: Our family and friends told us they thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Some said it was unlike any wedding they’d attended — with all the fun and engaging videos — while others said the day truly reflected us as a couple: fun, lighthearted, and a little quirky.
Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding.
Bryan: Definitely our second march-in! Our emcees hyped the crowd up and got everyone to wave their napkins in the air as we entered. Apparently, they even practised twice with our guests before we walked in! Seeing everyone so joyful and full of energy — that was truly a sight to remember.
What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?
Bryan: Trust your wife, take care of your health, and don’t underestimate the planning process — it’s a lot, especially when both of you come from big families!
Amabelle: Communicate every detail with your bridal party early, and don’t wait until the day before to hand everything over. Also, hire a content creator to capture all the behind-the-scenes raw videos and photos — you’ll love looking back at those moments right after the wedding.
