Jalyn and Jerome’s Beautiful Green Wedding at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa

Jalyn and Jerome had a fun and cheerful wedding at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa surrounded by their loving family and friends.

Jalyn, 27, Product Designer, and Jerome, 31, Data Scientist, took the same company shuttle to work every morning and started making small talk during the commute, although Jerome found Jalyn rather cold and unapproachable. One day, the bus broke down and they were about to be late for work. They decided to share a cab together, and, in Jerome’s own words, his “life was about to change forever.” Their wedding was held last November at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, which they fell in love with at first sight.

How did the two of you meet?

Jalyn: We met while we were working in the same company. Jerome had just started a new job at a place where I was interning at. He barely noticed me due to first day work jitters, even though I was the first face he saw as I took a newcomer’s picture of him. He then started taking the company’s shuttle service, which I have already been taking, and we started chatting during our morning commute to work.

Jerome: The funny thing is that Jalyn always looked so unapproachable while waiting for the bus. One day, the bus was about 20 minutes late, and Jalyn came up to tell me that she received a message that the bus had broken down. She asked me if I wanted to share a cab. I reluctantly agreed as I was hesitant at first due to her cold demeanour, but I was still under probation and didn’t want to be too late.

During the cab ride, I made a feeble attempt to start a conversation. I asked her how long she’s been working for the company. She told me she had been interning for three months, and I told her that I thought she was my age. I was 27 back then, and she was actually only 23. I think we got off on the wrong foot, but little did I know that my life was about to change forever because of this encounter.

What drew you to each other?

Jalyn: Jerome is so thoughtful! When we were dating, it was my final year in university and I had a lot of late nights as well as burnt weekends while working on my final year project. Even though I was in NTU, he would travel all the way there to bring food for me and my friends. I really appreciated how he cared for not only me, but my family and friends as well.

What is it about your partner that you love the most?

Jalyn: Jerome is easily the most genuine person I’ve ever known. I’ve never felt more safe and comfortable than when I’m with him. I knew that Jerome was the one when my home became a person, and that I look forward to returning home every day. Above all, Jerome is always full of passion and determination in everything he does, and that’s something I respect and appreciate.

What was the proposal like?

Jalyn: It was a normal weekend and we went for high tea. I could feel Jerome was a little antsy that day. He was more fidgety than usual, and was constantly checking his phone. He tried to play it cool by telling me that he had an important delivery that was being delivered to his house and was coordinating with his brothers to receive it. It was a little suspicious but it sounded plausible, so I didn’t probe more.

After high tea, he suggested we take a walk at East Coast Park. I was quite bummed out by that because I was dressed nicely and didn’t want to sweat but we didn’t have any other plans for the day so I agreed. We took a nice long stroll and he was recounting to me about all the lovely memories we’ve shared together. Before I knew it, I saw a beautiful set up with the words “Marry me?” along the beach. We walked towards the set up where he got down on one knee, and the rest is history. It still remains as one of the best days of my life.

Where was your wedding venue and why did you choose it as the place to wed?

Jalyn: We held our wedding at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa. We went for viewing at a couple of locations and when we were at Sofitel, our hearts were immediately set on it. We wanted something a little different from the usual hotel ballrooms, and the lush greenery with vast outdoor spaces at Sofitel gave a Balinese vibe, making it feel like we were away from Singapore.

Did you have a wedding theme?

Jalyn: Not really. I just wanted everything to be simple yet charming, nothing too over-the-top. While I love a natural palette like white and sage, Sofitel had a lot of greenery, so I needed an injection of some colours for contrast. I was looking for inspiration on several platforms, and decided to go for a palette consisting of different shades of greens, yellows, oranges and whites. I sent a ton of inspiration pictures to my sister-in-law, who was the florist for my wedding, and she executed everything perfectly.

Take us back to your wedding day.

Jalyn: I couldn’t sleep the night before as I was so excited and nervous thinking about how the wedding is finally happening. I kept trying to play out how the day would be, envisioning all the events that were going to happen.

Our wedding day was fairly simple. Jerome came to pick me up in the morning, and I went over to his house. After that, we made our way to the hotel to prepare for our wedding dinner. I was warned by many that the bride and the groom would be too tired to even enjoy the events of the day, but I’m glad I did as I was running on full adrenaline mode. It was undoubtedly the best day of my life! All I can say is that the day went by too quickly, and it was all over in the blink of an eye.

Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Jalyn: For me, it was when we exchanged our vows. I know, how clichéd, but it’s true. Words were exchanged, promises were made, and tears were shed. It was so emotional, as that was the very moment we became husband and wife. It will always be something I hold close to my heart.

What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?

Jalyn: It will all be okay in the end. I spent a year stressing over the details of what was the biggest event that I’ll ever host. And in the end, it was a perfect day, the best day of my life. Some stuff went wrong, most stuff went right, and none of it mattered because I got to marry my best friend and we had the time of our lives.
