Tricia and Immanuel’s Beautiful Solemnisation at CHIJMES and Destination Wedding at Hotel Indigo Bintan Lagoi Beach

For Tricia and Immanuel, their wedding dream unfolded in two chapters — a heartfelt church ceremony where they exchanged their vows, followed by a romantic celebration in an overseas destination that had captured their hearts.

Tricia, 26, and Immanuel, 27, met in church. Although they did not hang out in the same circle of friends, fate has its way of bringing them together as each other’s forever. After a surprise proposal cleverly disguised as a work trip in Australia, Tricia and Immanuel knew exactly what they wanted for their wedding and wasted no time bringing their vision to life. Their love story unfolded in a two-day celebration — beginning with a heartfelt church solemnisation at CHIJMES Hall, followed by an intimate wedding in Bintan that doubled as a fun weekend getaway for them and their guests.

Share with us your story. How did the two of you meet?

Both: We first met when we were 11 or 12 years old in church! We were never really friends, but we followed each other on Instagram and were always bumping into each other. We reconnected again in university – we were in the same faculty and stayed in the same hall.

What initially drew you to each other? What do you love the most about your partner?

Tricia: His spontaneity and “golden retriever” energy was what attracted me. I love that he loves God, and loves me gently, and pushes me to be the best version of myself.

Immanuel: It was our shared love for kids and dogs, her dream to be a mother, and her unmatched beauty that attracted me. I love her dedication to faith, and how loving and nurturing she is.

What was the moment that made you realise that he/she was the one for you?

Tricia: It was when he went through all the effort to buy tickets for me after he heard that my childhood dream was to watch the Artistic Gymnastics Olympics live. Not everyone who hears about your childhood dream would make it happen for you!

Immanuel: When we were bowling with our friends, a friend shouted that if Tricia scores a strike in that round, we would marry one another, and with a typical 0% strike rate, she actually hit the craziest strike I have ever seen with two messenger pins that fell well after the kinetic energy dissipated! But, jokes aside, it was probably when I saw her first interact with my family and my dog with grace and love – I knew I wanted that for my family.

Tell us about your proposal. Immanuel, how did you go about planning the proposal? Where did it take place, and were there any challenges/obstacles during the process?

I reached out to her boss, and requested for him to send her on a work trip to Australia where she would have a “client meeting”. The “client meeting” was actually the proposal and she was caught so off guard! It took place in Melbourne, the “bubble resort”.

Tricia, did you know a proposal was coming before it happened, or were you taken completely by surprise?

I knew it was coming but I did not expect it to be that very day! I was so locked in for my “client meeting” that the proposal was the last thing on my mind. It was so crazy how he managed to pull that off without me suspecting a thing.

Tell us about your wedding. Why did you decide on a two-day wedding in two different countries?

Both: To give you some back story, we actually planned our wedding in three months. We got engaged on 14th March 2025 and married on 11th July 2025! We did not see a need to wait so long to get married and was okay with choosing venues and vendors from what’s available.

We never intended on a two-day wedding, but we fell in love with Hotel Indigo Bintan Lagoi Beach while we were there for a short getaway and wanted to celebrate our nuptials there. At the same time, as a Christian couple, we wanted to have our solemnisation in a church. So, we decided to celebrate over two days. Initially, we had trouble looking for a church for our solemnisation as we didn’t know that churches do not open on Fridays – and we wanted our solemnisation to happen on 11 July, which was a Friday. Thankfully, we found out that CHIJMES Hall was available and it turned out to be the most beautiful venue for our solemnisation.

The next day, we held a more intimate celebration at Hotel Indigo Bintan Lagoi Beach — a place we had fallen in love with on a previous stay and couldn’t wait to share with our closest friends and family. It was the perfect setting to bring our dream wedding to life, giving us and our guests a relaxed, joyful celebration that doubled as a weekend getaway filled with laughter and heartfelt conversations.

Take us back to your wedding day. What was the day like? Did you have a wedding theme?

Both: Our wedding theme was ‘simple, elegant and fun’! And as our guests have pointed out, it was a mix of both of us. Overall, we were just so excited to get married! Our first day of celebrations was so special – we had 450 guests present to witness our solemnisation. Our second day was a night to remember – it was so fun and the fireworks was our special surprise to all our guests.

What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?

Both: I dont want to brag but, everyone was shocked that we planned our two-day wedding celebration in three months! Our guests in Bintan said that it was the most unique and fun wedding they had been to!

Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Both: It would definitely be our first dance with the surprise fireworks at the perfect timing!

What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?

Both: I feel like I have more than one! First, we both listed out our non-negotiables and for these items, the person with the non-negotiable will have full control over it, no questions asked. Everyone will have differing opinions, but they are just trying to help! However, it can get quite stressful. Be confident with what you like and go for it! There is no right or wrong – it’s your wedding!
