will check on the portion when I go for the food tasting which is still a long way to go.

michelle/pearl: i would consider the themes to be of lesser importance. if we'd the numbers to go for pacific ballroom, i would dare say the theme wouldn't be of any issue as the ballroom itself is already great.

but as we do not have the numbers, we could only opt for ocean ballroom. the ceiling is rather low and as of now they only have white lights. but to me, if the themes given aren't attractive enough, it could be further enhanced by, perhaps, more floral arrangements even at our own expenses.

what is more important would be the food quality & quantity. if we're dining at hai tien lo, then the ambience would help a lot; but we're dining in the ballroom with no city-view. i wouldn't say the quality isn't good, but to be fair, i'm sure the great view at 37th floor helped to contribute to many praises for food at hai tien lo.

need to bear in mind that our relatives/friends are in a way "paying" for the food, so kinda scary to leave the food quantity until food tasting. it would be kinda late by then, in my view.

we could still remedy the theme by enhancing it further ourselves, but if the food portion is quite beyond our control, especially if the top-up becomes substantial.

we tried out the shark fins with crab meat & braised baby abalone with sea cucumber & seasonal greens at hai tien lo (not the food tasting). the shark fins portion were generious ($32/bowl). but the actual banquet won't be of this amount; nevertheless, even with a 10-15% lesser amount, the shark fins are still good.

it is really the braised baby abalone that is a headache. they're kinda thin. with dazzle being the most expensive package, was really hoping for it to be at least comparable to the baby abalone at swissotel or raffles.

with reference to an earlier post by nigel, we checked with ivan and was told that the initial deposit we need to pay after signing the contract is S$ 3K (not S$ 6K); we'll need to pay 50% of the balance, 30 days before the AD and the remaining after the AD.

so it could be a financial concern.

ahboy&ahbao: i think the pacific ballroom's flower decor still needs improvement cos its rather sparse when I saw it a few weeks back. Initial deposit for mine was $6k, 50% of the balance 1 month before AD and remaining after AD. I could not get my initial deposit reduced and I just paid it recently. I should have visited the forum earlier

So its good that you can get the initial deposit @ $3k

pearl: i guess pacific ballroom is BIG, thats why you find it sparse? ;-) but i find it very grand. :)

pinkpt: the package comes with 1 free bottle of wine per confirmed table; i guess if you've more tables (> 40) you've more bargaining power.

Hi ahboy&ahbao, I agree. Pacific ballroom when I first came to view the ballroom, it gave me a "wow" expression. Its very grand though they dont have those chandelier lightings. Nevertheless, their multi changing colour lightings is unique too

Hi Michelle, sorry to make confuse. I mean charlotte told me will have new themes in 2009 but i don know when out.. They will let us choose so i think will have 2 or more themes..urs ocean or pacific?

a1211: the layout is for 2008 or 2009? The stage looks nice, but the rest looks kind of plain. The plain white light especially spoils the mood.

Hi Pearl, if u take Pacific ballroom, its $6k deposit, but if u take the Ocean ballroom, its $3k. So dun worry, they were not short changing you. Anyway i agree, Pacific ballroom really stands out becoz of the lightings and spaciousness.

Ahboy&Ahbao, maybe u can voice out ur concerns to Ivan and see wat he says. I dun't think he would like the standard of their food to be compromised.

pinkpt: we're working with him on this aspect. his service & commitment is significantly better than some of the other 5 stars hotels that we approached. felt lucky to get him as our coordinator.

anyway for those taking the pacific ballroom, it's definitely a good choice, enjoy the long march-in!

I think Ahboyahbao is Ocean from the post above:

"but as we do not have the numbers, we could only opt for ocean ballroom. the ceiling is rather low and as of now they only have white lights. but to me, if the themes given aren't attractive enough, it could be further enhanced by, perhaps, more floral arrangements even at our own expenses"

So Charlotte also offer drinks anot? Anyway i felt Ivan didnt make us feel too rushed and was calm and collected. He also tried to accomodate our request.

Hi a1211

So maybe its their service style. If u have the stage in Centre , it will be a shorter L shape walk or maybe centre walk in. So how was the lighting during ur D&D,was it yellowish? How was the food?

The link is from other party not mine.. but my fren's D&D held there b4 and food nice that she told me b4 i sign w PP...

michelle/pinkpt/a1211: yep, we're taking ocean ballroom due to the tables constraint. yep, ivan offered us drinks during our first meet up; he's accommodating and service-oriented. still ironing out some final details before we sign the papers.

a1211: we thought of having the stage in the centre too, because we could have a dance floor in the middle, and that means more people can have a better view; but as ivan pointed out, the centre stage setting is more typical for DNDs;

on deeper thoughts, there are other issues arising due to this kind of setup, the gap between 2 parts of the ballroom is rather significant. it's like we're splitting the guests into 2 groups, this may be ok if both sides are having same number of guests, else it wouldn't look that nice.

anyway, the centre stage option does remove the long march-in, so unless you're shy about the march-in, think is better to have it at the end. :)

Hi a1211,yeap my wedding is on a wkend. For pacific, cant rem..i think min 35/36 tables?

Looking at the pics u posted, actually ocean ballroom is okay...I suggest to add more deco to make the whole ballroom nt look so empty, but frankly speaking, pan pac in terms of their wedding themes, as compared to the 2 hotels like oriental and intercon where I have been to, the other 2 stand out more and look classier. Ivan did told me abt the new themes coming out for 2009 and I told him hope its sth different and nice lor. Today I had lunch at Hai Tien Lo with my customers, service and food wise is very good...esp the dessert (mango pudding with grassjelly). I might ask Ivan if I can change my dessert to that.:p

Hi Michelle, so the decor for Pacific ballroom also pales in comparison to Oriental and Intercon? Maybe its the lack of flower stands...

pearl_chin

New Member
pinkpt: yes..the decor of pacific ballroom pales in comparison with Oriental and Intercon in terms of their floral decorations and themes provided. I have highlighted to my coordinator before and she will look into it. However, the long march in and the space of the ballroom makes up for it

Hi gals, personally I feel Pan Pac pales in terms of themes. Maybe their long march in is their only appeal. I wasnt aware of that until I read the forum ahahha. In fact when I first came to view the Pacific ballroom, i was quite impressed by the space and the multi colour lightings.

Juz get the info from Charlotte as below:

The new themes will be out next year, should all be fine it will be end January.

Lightings will be ready by January too & is almost similar to Pacific Ballroom.

We have gold, red, blue, black, silver, ivory table cloths available for selection.

Of course details will only be finalized a month before your wedding J

Hi Sharene, thx for ur lovely photos. Wow ur VIP table was so big. Did u specially request for such a big one? Anyway how was the wine provided by the hotel, the ones included in the package. Did u have any perks on ur wine too?

ahboyahbao

New Member
yep, i agree, sharene's VIP is BIG! kinda nice to have both families on 1 single table. a marriage between a couple is also a union of 2 families (from strangers to relatives).

a1211: wow, so many different colors to select from? and if the lightings can be similar to Pacific, then its a big load off my mind. ;-) are you asking for slashes/ribbons on the chairs?

pearl_chin

New Member
a1211: i have tried to ask for sashes/ribbons to be tied on alternate guests chairs from Charlotte but I would have to pay $2.00/$2.50 per sash for it. i was hoping to get them waived..... The VIP tables will have sashes and ribbons tied without charge, of cos.

michelle chia: take a look at http://picasaweb.google.com/romulus.lee/PanPacificHotel# for photos on ocean ballroom and bridal suite. basically as long as you hit the minimum spending, 25 tables can be accommodated.

pearl: wow, if they can't waive it, assuming you have 30 tables, alternate chairs slashes would cost S$ 300. think can save that money for your shopping during honeymoon. it's a good-to-have, not must, i suppose.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

michellechia: not sure how many themes will there be next year, have to wait for ivan to inform us. as for food, its pretty subjective, one man's meat maybe another's poison. ask for their menu and see if you like it. service so far so good, beats some of the other 5 stars hotel that we enquired with.

pearl: yah, think the seat covers are good enough.
