Hey Ladies,

Regarding Singapore Citizenship, i thought if both parents are singapore citizens, the child will 'automatically' be singapore citizen as well?

Anyway, ladies moving to Melbourne or already in Melbourne, is there anyway of 'checking out' particular suburbs, like if it's safe etc?

I think previously people have suggested brunswick if i'm not wrong, any one heard anything about parkville? :)

Congrats Margiel on submitting your application!

Hi DAT

Thanks and you can PM me if you like. I am moving to Melbourne and perhaps we can share more info about suburbs. Are you looking for area near town, or if you dont mind slightly further away, Glen Waverly is good.

Hi Idyll
Hehehe.. yes took me few months to piece all the documentation together. Once you are ready and have submitted your application, you can take a break hehe

HI Margiel,

PM-ed you!

Yup, my friend's sis is at Glen Waverly, but we're looking at staying in/around city (carlton, parkville, city near flinders, north/south melb), more convenient for us, OH's work place is likely to be in the city at somewhere in CBD and i'm in UniMelb :)

According to observations so far, Parkville seems like a good place, but just wonder how to 'verify', cos i'm not so sure the REA will tell u the bad points of that suburb right?

Hi DAT

I got ur PM. I guess it is abit hard to search abt the security unless u have ppl who stayed there to tell u. I'll be in GW. I only know abt a few other suburbs which is not so near city, will chk out for u. Not to worry, there are many expatriats staying near city, if u really dun like it then u can slowly get another place to stay/ rent.

Hi DA.T, are there not a couple of "Parkville" there? I thought I came across few whilst there a while back. Hub's friends are in Bently and Vermont and they are pretty much safe. Bently is nearer to South Yarra with the train system.

Hey, I got a pseudo job offer from someone I work with on a case who is from Glen Waverly. His office is there too. He said it's pretty okay up there.

Hi Foggy, yeah I should consider myself very lucky at not having so many probs with my visa application. And to get it in within 2 weeks of putting thru my application. In a month's time I'll be getting my PR.

Hi Idyll, you dun have to worry about backdating the "evidence" as they are not going to investigate the validity of it just want to make sure you have enuff records of the courtship.

Hi Dat, my cousin is living in Brunswick it's close to the city although it's more expensive. She loves the area and finds it safe.

I've got another friend who is living in Murrumbeena, it's an hour to the city but a safe suburb and quite a number of asians there. Housing is relatively much cheaper since it's away from the city.

Hi Ladies,

The 'parkville' i'm referring to is near Melbourne Uni. Along Royal Parade..

Damsel: you mean you got your case office within 2 weeks of submitting your application? That's fast!!

Looks like there're many of us moving to Melbourne, we can set up a 'desperate housewives-like' club :)

Hi Damsel
I am applying for prospective marriage visa.. Only when it is approved then i can move over to do my registry and stay there. What visa are you applying? and which part of Australia will you be going?

Hi DAT
BTW who else here is also moving to Melbourne? hehe I kind of lost track when reading some of the past messsages here. Well if you are setting up "Melbourne desperate housewives-like" club, i'll queue up to join hehehe...

Ok everyone
Have a good rest/ day!

Hi Dat, Yeah I got my visa approved just 2 weeks after I put in my application, I was quite shocked as welll since I got people telling me that it takes months.

Hi Lavender, I was on private health care as the medicare application took a while to be approve and I needed to have a prenatal check ups so I bought health insurance to cover my cost. As a private patient your consultation is with a gynae and when you give birth you'll have a private room.

Yeah in Aust the babies are delivered by midwives, the gynae only steps in when there is a complication or problem. I would say overall my experience with the medical personnel here was pleasant during my pregnancy. And moreover I chose a very good hospital.

Hi Margiel, I'm on spouse visa currently and living in Sydney at the moment. Are you going to register in S'pore as well? Cause me and hubby had a registration only in S'pore and when we came to Aust we just updated our status in the Registrar as married so dun have to go thru the whole process twice. Are you aware that after you get your prospective marriage visa you need to get it converted to spouse visa after you are legally married?

Hey gals I was thinking maybe we can have a table with our visa status and other details so that it will be accesible to all. What do you all think? I can do it if you all are fine with the idea.

Hi Damsel

It would be great to have a table so that we know where we are hehe... I like the idea.

Yes i know that after this visa, i have to apply spouse visa.... at the moment i cant think any further on the process oredi, will see and move along when it comes LOL. My registry will be done in Melb and if im not wrong, upon my visa approval, i am given a time limit to get married and move over then i can proceed the next visa.

Btw how long have u been staying at sydney oredi?

DA.T, ahh...yes....it looks quite alright the neighbourhood though have to admit to "see" and to actually be in the neighbourhood can have different results. Sorry, I can't help you there but you want, I can ask my hub's friends living in Melbourne.

Hi Margiel, I've been in AUst for 2 years already in a month's time I'll be getting my PR status. Yeah after your marriage you are given a time period to put in your application for spouse visa. But since you have already done the groundwork for your marriage visa the 2nd step will be a breeze.

hey snoozy,

do u mean PR? Cos i think for singaporeans the max is 3mths, then you'll have to leave the country and re-enter..

maybe some one else can enlighten?

Hi DA.T ..

I dont mean PR.. There is a kind of visa for us to stay there up to 12 mths. But for this visa.. i cant work, i onli can be there like a tourist. Actually i can apply for normal Tourist visa too which allow me to stay there up to 3 mths and after that reapply again if i wan to stay there. But wat i wan to do now is apply for long term in singapore, and using this i can stay there more than 3 mths.

Hi Snoozy, you can apply for long term visa on the basis that you are a dependant of your hubby. But while you are on long term visa you need to put in your application for Spouse visa as soon as possible as the long term visa is base on certain conditions. Or you can do like me I applied my spouse visa base on social visit pass and that's probably why they speed up the process and gave me my spouse visa within 2 weeks. But NOTE that this is provided you have all your documents ready and sign as true copy by a JP. You also need testimonials from family and friends about your relationship with hubby. By the way mind sharing with me what your SIL did, if not convenient to do it here maybe you can PM me.

Hi Damsel.. i thot the long term visa is like a tourist visa? Btw .. wat u mean by social visit pass? I dont reali understand >.<
For the certification of docs.. we wouldnt have any problem with that, cos my hb can ask his fren to certify for us

* I PM u now

Hi Snoozy long term visa is equivalent to the social visit pass, the social visit pass is the date that they stamp on your passport when you enter the country and it states how long you can stay for.

If you want to extend the social visit pass it will then be known as long term visit pass and you have to pay for the extension.

snoozy

Hi Damsel.. but we can actually apply the long term in singapore, right? This long term allow us to stay more than 3 mths.. right? For this long term visa.. we have to apply and we have to submit the necessary doc, like bank statement, letter from my hb, medical checkup..etc.. sorry so many questions.. abit confusing

damsel

New Member
Yeah you can apply for it in S'pore itself thru the IMMI website. But for me because I din want to waste the money and go thru the hassle of having to submit extra docs I just took the risk and rely on my social visit pass. Frankly if you ask me I won't bother applying for the long term visa.

Tourist Visa (Subclass 676)
valid for 6 or 12mths
Cost:AUD70 not refundable if visa is not approved

Sponsored Family Visitor visa (Subclass 679)
Valid for 6mths or 12mths (depending on circumstances)
Cost:AUD205

ermm.. wat is the different between this 2 visa? Damsel.. i know it extra works.. but as u know from my PM.. i got no choice at all.. if i can apply for spouse visa straight away, i will do that. >.< You know.. we dont wan to take the risk.. the fee spend on spouse visa is not refundable.. so if this time reject , there go the money.. we cant afford this after wat had happened.

ermm.. can someone kindly teach me how to check pte msg? thx

damsel

You can apply for either base on the description but of course the family sponsored will be more relevant in your case. Yeah it's not cheap applying for the spouse visa. By the way you can check out this website

www.immi.gov.au/visitors

Pte Msg will automatically go to your designated email address if you opted to receive PM in your profile.

Damsel.. i jus checked the website. The sponsor ( my hubby ) must be in aust when we apply for the family sponsored visa. But now my hubby is in singapore. we intend to go back together .. =.="

Hi Damsel,

I thot private insurance has a waiting period of erm.. 6 months or 1 year? i wasn't too sure but i thot i read it somewhere. whereas for medicare, there's no waiting period and it can be 'activated' the moment we register ourselves.. any idea how this works? it's quite a headache as i'm already moving over and then realised now that i'm pregnant..

damsel

New Member
Hi Lavender, what visa status are you going on? As for me when I went there I was still on tourist visa when I discovered I was preggie. I bought my insurance a year before I move over to Aust. You can only apply for medicare as soon as your permanent visa is approve and it took a month before I got it.

merci

Hi all
I got my visa approved oredi. Will have to enter Australia latest by mid July.

Eileen, the health check is within a day but do call up the clinic to check for the price before u go down. Police clearence takes abt 2 weeks to process.I got my aprroval of visa in less than 2 months. Guess probably bcos i really subitted ALOT of supporting documents.

Hi Eileen, welcome back!

Hi Lavender, I bought the health insurance because I was expecting the visa to take a long time to approve and moreover my friend was advising me it's best in case something happen I can seek medical treatment either back in S'pore or the country I'm in. But thinking back I'm glad that I took my friend's advice and bought it.

ermmm.. medibank? that is in australia, right? So you mean i have to go there and buy not buy in singapore? So when i buy.. i will tell them to cover australia also? Sorry for asking so many questions.

damsel

Hi Snoozy, I was actually covered by two insurance one was from prudential for international coverage for accidents and major illness which covers transfer back to S'pore to receive medical treatment and the other one from Medibank for local coverage. I know you must be thinking how come I so kiasu. Cause if you do not have a local health insurance the medical fees and medication are damn high to see a normal GP. And moreover you'll need local insurance to cover such things as dental care, women's health issues which is not included in medicare. I hope this is clear and will not confuse you further.
