Hi everyone,

I'm new in this thread. Me and hubby are also in the midst of preparing our application for class 136 - skilled independent. But there's so many things to do and prepare!! very overwhelming.. I have collected all the information provided in www.immi.gov.au, but still feel overwhelmed. Hope to get some pointers and advice from all of you here

Hi Oz.pinky,

My spouse and myself had submitted the class 136 application to DIMIA in June'06 and we submitted the application ourselves. We have just completed our final stage of application and should be hearing the "got it" news anytime from the case officer. Our pc of advice is read the instructions clearfully and only submit what is deem necessary and you will be fine. Have you cleared your skills assessment stage? Did you engaged any agent to file in your application ?

Hi escondido,

Thanx for responding

Nope, we haven't submitted the skills assessment actually. Still gathering documents and getting them certified. I don't intend to engage agent as I heard the application process is pretty straightforward. Is that true?

I need more advice, if you don't mind...
1. Will they check the employer reference? I didn't tell my boss that I'm applying for PR. Instead, I told him it's to apply for Master. Hee.. so if they call him, he'll know that I lied.. oh no...
2. Does the spouse need to take IELTS too?
3. What did you submit as evidence of relationship history and continuing relationship? I'm really confused what to submit for this one...
4. what's the final stage of the application? hee..

Thanx again to escondido and other kind souls who can help me with this..

Yes, do your homework first and the application process is pretty straight forward.

Answers to your queries:
1) Are you the main applicant ? If you are, during your skills assessment phase and forms submission to DIMIA, you must definitely get a referral letter from your boss to show that you are working.
2) Both my spouse and I graduated from aus uni. Therefore only the main applicant need to take IELTS. But it also depends on whether the case officer wants both to submit the IELTS results.
3) We only submitted our marriage cert.
4) Stage 1 = Skills Assessment Stage, Stage 2 = Form 47SK Submitted to DIMIA, Final Stage = Case Officer assigned and request for medicals police clearances.

Hi Escondido,

My hubby is the main applicant and he's already gotten his employer reference. I have also obtained a reference from my boss. Actually, my question was whether DIMIA will do a cross check on that reference, meaning call my boss to verify what is written in the reference.

Hi Escondido and Oz.Pinky!

2 more couples going to the Land Down Under!

Just curious, I'm assuming here (a bit presumptious I know) that neither you or your hubbies are Aussie PRs or citizens? What made you want to migrate to OZ?

With my hubs an Aussie, I had a difficult time initially trying to change my mindset to eventually settling in Australia. My concern was really the job. I have to take a year's refresher course to be able to do what I do here there. I really am useless at anything else apart from what I do currently.

Snoozy, ahh..yes, babies. Hubs and I are in that stage that we want to have kids but not sure whether "now" is a good time yet. Hmmmppfff...

Hi Oz Pinky & Escondido, welcome to the thread make yourself feel at home. Wish I could give you advise on your application but when it comes to skilled visa I won't be able to help much as I applied for spouse visa that's where my expertise lies in. But nevertheless you can get support and info from the others in here. By the way which part of Aust you moving to?

Hi Idyll & Snoozy, just miss a few days of the thread and we've got newcomers to the club. Hee hee as I mention earlier if you gals want to have kids might as well wait until you move to Aust cause the benefits are much better and what's more you kids automatically become Aust citizen.

Damsel, we're still open with the baby issue thingee. I need more of the emotional/family support more than anything so we'll see what happens. Hubs have no problems with NS (he thinks it's good) so we see how.....

Ooooh.......a future Melburnian in Oz.Pinky! I sooo want to move to Melbourne too but work is not too kind for me there, I think. Or maybe I haven't looked properly there. My hubs will definitely not many oppotunities with jobs in Melbourne.

How long did you wait after submitting your police clearance certs and medical report ?
We hope that ours is SOON too. Time in the waiting club is really tedious.

Hi Damsel,
We do have plans to get down to either one of the 3 eastern cities, Which part of Sydney are you residing?

THANKS everyone.

Escondido: We submitted the medical & PCC in mid Nov 06. My agent advised that by Dec 06 we should receive the news. Apparently, it was not the case.... believed it got to do with the holidays. Whatever it is...m glad we get the good news. When did u submit yours?

oz.pinky: The application was submitted to DIMIA on 2 Feb 06. We waited a year for it. This is not included the initial stage whereby they approve our eligibility. That took us another 1 year. How about yours...what stage r u at now?

Hi,

Have been MIA from this thread for some time.
OH has yet to submit aussie police clearance and go for medical check, sg police clearance done.. hoping to get the visa by june-july 07, is that too ambitious?

Just wondering, anyone applied under MODL?

ozpinky

Hi Foggy,

I'm at the very beginning stage! hee...just started gathering documents, getting them certified, preparing skill assessment n IELTS, etc. I didn't know that there's a stage whereby they will approve the eligibility... can u tell me more about tat?

Hi dat,

did u apply under MODL? hubby is gonna apply under that too...

Can anyone advise me whether I can just get any lawyer to certify documents for me? or must it be specifically a notary public/commissioner of oath? Also, did anybody claim for GST exemption for skills assessment n need to produce statutory declaration that ur outside aussie?

Thanx all

i'm so glad i found this thread!

OZ.Pinky: I believed that's the part that you are preparing now. This is the 1st stage where they will check whether you satisfy the basic visa requirements and meet the current pass mark. The basic visa criteria requires you to meet specific age requirements, English language ability, minimum qualifications level, selection of a nominated occupation and recent work experience.

Once you get the green light for this, you will be into the 2nd stage which require you to make another payment to submit the application to DIMIA.

And yes..your certified true copies needs to be done by a lawyer who is a notary public.

Hello DAT....long time no see. I was MIA for a while too. The waiting game is really getting on me, and making it painful to come in here.

Hi Foggy,

so the total waiting time is 2 years? wow...that's long..

I'm a bit confused tho...I thought we have to submit the application (form 47sk) together with all the necessary documents (incl. those you mentioned) and the application fees...

emerjo

oz.pink: I'm sorry If I were to confuse you. I applied with the help of the agent who explained that the Skilled – Independent visa process takes 3 stages. The actual application started at the 2nd stage. I'm not exactly sure what are the forms already. Anyway, if yours is a simplified way...I'm truely happy for u. I've so much hassle at the beginning.

By the way, what is MODL?

Hey Foggy,
dont think so much, you turn will come really soon!
though like you, i can't wait for OH to come over as well.

MODL is the list of jobs that is in demand in australia.. and you get a 'shorter queue' to get PR. most people say within 6months for MODL is possible.. a few of OH's collegues have gotten it.
oz.pinky,
i already have my student visa and have been in melb since 2006. OH is apply for PR under MODL, in future i'll either get PR after graduation or tag on to his as spouse or depends on what our plans at that time is..

sorry, not sure abt the GST thing you're talking about.

Hi Foggy,

We submitted our stage 2 application in June 06.
CO contacted us in early Feb07. All documents were sent before CNY. Now waiting for the final email from the CO.

Now with the PR in hand, when do you plan to land in Aus ?

Looks like this thread is very active now, so glad to know that a lot of our fellow comrades will be moving down under.

BIG Congrats to Foggy!

Hi Idyll, one negative thing abt having a child away from home is that you are on your own to cope. When I had my girl my mum was with me for only 3 months when she left I felt like a lost soul as I had to cope by myself which was very difficult as that was my first child and everything was new to me. But luckily I manage to survive thanks to hubby's support if not I can tell you I'll definitely go out of my mind.

Hi Escondido, I'm living towards Penrith in the west side.

Hi Dat, Welcome back to the thread.

oz.pinky:
Our agent is Forefront. I dun remember how much we pay them exactly, but all in all including the payment to AU, I've paid about SG$7K. Rather expensive actually. It's so much cheaper & faster if you were to do so by yourself...if you know how. If you were to read previous threads, there were feedbacks that it's pretty straight forward actually. Have u gotten your visa already?

Escondido:
Looks like you may be next in the line to receive good news. Good luck. I'm given up to end Sep this year to have my 1st landing. Hmm...kind of rush. Always thought we should be given up to a year to do so. After which, I'm planning to move over in early 2009, so next year will be extremely busy to get all things sorted out.

damsel:
Thanks. Understand that you are in Sydney, but have lots of friends & relatives in Melbourne, so will u be relocating yourself there some day? Are you working now or a full-time mum?

We are thinking about Melbourne. Any idea which are the preferred locations to stay?

Anyone has any suggestion how to prepare ourselves for the relocation? Seems to have 1001 things to do but dunno where to start...

DA.T : Yes..MODL now isn't that fast after all. Based on the weekly tues DIMIA email update, the processing time line between MODL and normal 136 application is about a difference of about 3wks to a month.

Foggy : You are taking a year to settle your relocation?? Are you selling your house in singapore ?

Hi Foggy, that's a lot of money you paid to get your visa. Frankly speaking I had actually wanted to get a agent to do it for me as well initially cause the application procedure seem overwhelming and they say that your application thru agency is so much faster but I find that is not true. As long as you have everything they want and there's no hiccups your application will be approved pretty quickly. And after finding out the fees we had to pay to the agent I opted to do it myself.

Moving to Melb is definitely an option since buying a house there is so much cheaper and cost of living relatively lower than Sydney it's just a matter of getting out butt off the coach and start doing something abt it. If you are planning to live in the close to the city than Brunswick is not too bad. Or if you want to live in the inner suburb murrumbeena is alright.

I'm currently working from home. I use DHL to ship my stuff when I move over but I only had my stuff from my room to move. I had about 12 boxes and paid close to $1K for shipment. If you've got furniture and bulky items the best is to ship by container load.

Escondido:
A year is even too short. It seems just yesterday we were counting down to 07, now we are in Mar. Isn't it scary? Relocating is a big decision & a huge move for me & my family. Other than the many trivial things to arrange, the more important reason is my gal's education. I want to wait for her to complete her PSLE, so that she can start fresh in year 7 there. How about u, when do u plan to move? And No to selling house. I'll probably need to rely on the rental to tie me over the critical period.

oz.pinky:
Happy waiting. We'll see u alot complaining about the wait....i guess... hehe.

damsel: Thanks for the infomation. Do you need a lot of $$$ to relocate? I believe u need to make multiple trips there to settle the accomodation, job, etc. prior to the actual move isn't it? Any idea how much is the container?

Hi Escondido,

How do you sign up for the weekly updates?

Just out of curiosity, any young couples who havent set up a family in Singapore planning on relocating and raising a family downunder?

Cheers

damsel

New Member
Hi Foggy, for me I din spend that much to relocate since it was just me and my stuff unlike you who have a whole family to move. So on my end it was much less of a hassle. My accommodation was settled as my hubby already had a home so all I needed to do was move in. as for job and other stuff I did it after relocating. You can choose to have half a load or full load for the containers. They will actually come and look at your stuff to advise you how much space you need. That time I check with KC Dat and they quoted me a few thousand dollars.

Gosh.......I've missed so much since I was on a 12-hour work day last week! I definitely need an R & R time soon......

The application for my hubs PR here has stopped temporarily cos' I needed to make my new IC (I lost mine..) So irritated with the whole issue.

Read through the whole immigration VISA spouse issues thingee on the webbie and apparently I need to have at least 5 years "spousal" relationship (spousal means I can also be in a de facto relationship according to the webbie) with hubs prior before even making the application, so I am 1 year shy of that. Bleh.....

dat

New Member
Idyll,

Don't be irritated.. most of us here also waiting for the process.. :)

Not sure about the de facto relationship though, but heard from OH's collegue that so long as you can provide pictures/letters or corrospondance between you and your partner to confirm that you're in a long-term relationship (not necessarily married), you can apply for the spouse visa.

Cheers.

Hi Damsel,

Just to check, your girl is also a singapore citizen and she'll have dual-citizenship till she turns 21 and makes a choice right?

damsel

Hi Dat, My gal only has an Aust citizenship at the moment. If you read my previous post I tried applying for S'pore PR for her but found it too much of a hassle. By the way S'pore do not give out citizenship unless the child is born there.

DA.T, yeah...that's what I heard. We've known each other since 2001 but only started something serious in 2002. So, about a year shy from that 5-year rule thingee.

Hi Foggy,

No time no hear!!! And a BIG congrats to you.
We just submitted our application in Dec 06...so now just waiting.

So, when do you plan to make the move?

We are now preparing for the move and doing some research and bugetting for the move.
Anyone has any contact for affordable and reliable movers? Think we'll probably need a container.

Thanks!

Hi Sylvia, where will you be relocating to? That time I did enquire with KC Dat, they do container loads. And it includes packing as well.

Hi ladies .. i m back again. I think my application for spouse visa will have to be delay now.. due to some problem cause by my bitchy SIL. Ggggrrrrrr.. I hate that.

Hi Snoozy, I'm sorry to hear about the delay re. your application. Hope it'll work out soon. You have my email if you need to vent.

the 5-year spousal relationship is for the Aussie visa. "spousal" doesn't need to mean marrried. But must be from point when you are going out exclusively.

Sylvia, Sylvia, Sylvia,
How r u...so glad that u have finally submitted the application. You will most probably get the ans by this yr. Who knows we may arrange to go together.

My family intends to move down under by end next year, hopefully we won't have any change of plan. We r not sure to go Melbourne or Perth, got to depends on the job opportunities then.

Damsel,
U r so lucky not to have to do the ground work. M still struggling thru...u know. May I know what job u r doing at home? Kind of like the idea.

Idyll & Snoozy,
Don't give up. Yours are just a time factor, and it will pass in a blink. Give a few more blinks to speed it up...hehe kidding. Seriously, didnt know the spouse visa has to show proof. Cant u back date the camera and snap some pictures ...ooops... jus wondering. Snoozy, wanna share your frustration?

marnie

Foggy, oh yeah...well at least, the rules are there to keep the process all transparent unlike much red tape around here...*rolls eyes*

Actually, I DID think of backdating photos but nah...it'll be really bad if they ever found out. We can probably start submitting next year. Meanwhile, we will have time to gather "evidence"....
