Hi All,

I'm currently living in Sydney, I remember 2 years ago when I was applying for my visa I was so kan cheong since I was planning my wedding at the same time. Now that I've settled in Aust I would like to make friends with people who have moved to Sydney from Singapore.

did you apply for the visa immediately (or within 6 mths) after completion of your degree... coz i understand that we need to lodge application within 6 mths after completion of degree in order to claim for the 5 points right??

Used to be able to apply for the PR status immediately after u obtain ur qualification within 6-12 months. If u miss tat window period, tat's it.

Eileen,

Oh no, you are not short of 5 points, are you?

In my understanding, when u apply, you need to first show proof of financial statements that reflects the AU$100K.

The money is requested after you have done your Meds & PCCs, and before visa grant - it is the last stage of the process. You have to invest the money for 12 months, after which you will get it back, including the interests earned.

Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,

Merry Christmas to everybody.

Snoozy,
what test? IELTS? I supposed you have to too. There r only 2 test centres in SG - RELC and British Council. If you are not the main applicant, you just need at least an aggregate 5 for each of the 4 modules.

Sylvia,
This is a good start for u. May the application goes as smooth as you wish.

Sylvia, I sent my husband's application about 2 weeks ago. Couriered and check online that it has been received.

But I wonder, will we receive any email that will give us the 'applicant no'?

Snoozy,
Just go to British Council (not sure abt the other place, seems far) and pay $280 (yep..), choose date and place.

I think my hubby tried some online practise and did ok..7.5 points average, though i'm surprised how he 'smoke' til he get 9 for oral.

Thanks Foggy....

Hi Vibb, I read on the other websites that we would get an acknowledgement letter about 2-3 months time.

Hi guys,

If you need info of Notary Public/Commissioner of Oaths, I used Mr S. Karthikeyan at CPF Building (next to Tanjong Pagar MRT). He charges $5 per page ($2 for next page of same doc).
He helped giving me some advice abt migrating, cos he's an OZ PR agent and he's an OZ PR too. Intestingly, he managed to extend his PR 3x!!!

Hi Snoozy,

I applied thru spouse visa, it's much easier although still got a lot of paper work to fill but requirements not that rigid. My spouse visa valid for 2 years once expired you automcatically be eligible for PR

Hi guys, it's been a while. How is everyone?

Just a teeny update. Tried lodging my application in December (after weeks and weeks of form filling and collating of all annexes and relevant info) only to have them reject it because we had not ROM-ed yet. They insisted on having the marriage cert if I wanted to apply for a spouse visa (although my hubs was told a diff story when he made enquiries in August).

So after some whirlwind planning for an ROM in Singapore which included my hubs booking a flight up to Singapore, we had our ROM last Saturday (it was a wet ROM) and this Monday, we lodged our application.

Now need to go for med check and character assessment and will keep my fingers crossed.

Snoozy - Yup, I'm applying for PR via a spouse visa.

Hi Snoozy, I'm now located in Sydney. In a few months time I'll be automatically eligible for PR as the time criteria is 2 years. I got my spouse visa within 2 weeks of application which is rare cause it can take up to a few months. But i guess if all your docs are in place there should not be a delay in processing.

Hi Rany, you cannot apply for spouse visa without a marriage cert. If you wanted to speed up your process you should have applied under fiance/fiancee visa and after your ROM all you need to do is submit your marriage cert and they will convert your visa to a spouse.

Hi Damsel - Problem was when my hubs went in August to enquire in person, he was told we could fill out the spouse visa application and just provide evidence that we were going to get married on the said date. When i went with my application in Dec, I got told we need a marriage cert.

Apparently, we weren't the only ones given the wrong info. When both of us went on Monday to submit the appln again, we saw 2 different sets of people who got frustrated at the counter-staff because they were given the wrong info when they enquired previously and were now being told they need to come back again with the right docs etc. I think they were after student visas or smthg.

Snoozy - The prospective marriage visa was an option but it meant getting ROM-ed in Perth and we didn't want to do that because it was impt to my family to witness the event so that's why we were making plans to have it done here.

Noscon - Thanks!! Good luck with your appln too. How long does the skilled migrant appln take?

noscon

New Member
Rany

I think the skilled appln take about 1.5 yrs i guess, from the endorsement of our skills from individual organisations(which is quite fast i think but still take at least 2 months) and then the 2nd part is the approval process from the immigration dept of aust.

So you have been staying in aust or singapore? your FH?

Can I ask what is your situation? Your partner already a aust citizen? or you already staying in aust? cos im interested to know why u dont need IELTS. im applying under skilled n i need to take it...sigh

snoozy

Rany - Prospective visa can be apply in singapore also. So both of you can actually apply in singapore by providing the necessary info like when and where both of you getting married. AFter both of you get married, jus submit the cert and they will change the status to spous visa. Anyway you alr ROM so dont have to bother abt the prospective visa .

noscon - I'm apply spouse visa, my hb is australian so i guess for spouse visa , we dont need to take the IELTS.

Hi Noscon, life is not that hectic in Aust ppl tend to move at a slower pace and job opportunities are plenty, after a week of getting my visa I got offered a job. And it was a 50% increase in salary and half the workload.

damsel

Hi snoozy what visa are you applying for? If spouse visa then you definitely have to provide marriage cert. You also have to provide documents of your courtship, photos and any correspondence if it was a long distance relationship before the marriage. There's no need to proof financial status if your HB is Aust PR or citizen, all he needs to do is decalre that he's able to support you during the duration you are unemployed.

damsel

Hi Rany, that really sucks hey! Cause the wrong info cause you the delay in application. Anyway glad that everything is in order for you now.

Hi Damsel,

I m apply spouse visa. Ermm.. i read through the application form , and it show that we onli have to provide marriage cert, is tht true? And only prospective visa need to provide evidence? *confused* I told my hb we submit all the docs better in case something go wrong.

damsel

New Member
Hi Snoozy, it's best to have all docs ready cause when you go for your interview they would want to see all that as proof of your relationship with your HB

snoozy

New Member
wow.. still got interview! *faint* wat happen if we dont have any letters to proof? I know my hb online and we onli chat online before meet up... so how? Will that affect the application?

damsel

New Member
Hi Snoozy, it's best that you make up some letters now cause since your's is a long distance relationship they require more proof. You must also show them pics that you took when you visit each other.

hi Damsel,

What are u working as? I got my PR last year and planning to go over nxt yr.

How did u go abt looking for jobs?

damsel

Hi blue, I got a job as a Recruitment Exec after getting my visa. After I gave birth I quit and now I'm running my own business since I've got my little girl to look after. Are you moving to Syd as well? I look for jobs on the website like seek.com and mycareer.com. What is your area of work currently? Cause those skilled jobs are in demand.

Hey everyone!

Glad to find this thread. Been comtemplating whether I should actually go out and seek like-minded people who are about to embark on a journey down-under.

My hubby's British-Australian but currently on EP here. We've made the decision to move back to his "hometown" in Sydney in a couple of years (actually I prefer Melbourne lah) but I wonder how tough it would be for me.

We;ve been collecting all flight boarding tickets, photos of our holidays together etc to prove that we're in this marriage for the long haul. My question though is how substantial are those? What others should I look into?

damsel

Hi Idyll, other stuff you can proof the authenticity of the relationship is joint bank accounts, ownership of house, car, shares, etc.

hi Damsel,

i'm not moving to Sydney unfortunately. So u run ur own business? What kind? I wanted to do my own business but i'm afraid that i'm not in tune with their aus mkt. still keeping an open mind.

Thanks for the jobs website recommended. Hopefully i can get a job soon before i moved there.

My area of job is in oil/gas industry. Doing analyst work. mine is not a skilled job which are in demand.
