Grand Shanghai Restaurant

hallo folks

I just went down to GS for site visit, agree that the restaurant has a very nice ambience.
But i must say, its confusing for me since i took public transport and i nearly couldnt find the place (me never been to havelock area for wedding before), so must watch out for guests.

I decided to give it up bcos i couldnt meet the min 20 tables requirement (i only have 15), and my mum doesnt like the idea of having walk-in customers in the dinner. Shirly is very firm in the std perks list, not much room for negotiation. Although she is kind enough to offer the whole restaurant for 15 tables if its on a weekday (excl Monday).

But my HTB is firm on the AD date... so i have to continue hunting for my AD venue...

U think can get more invitation cards from them? It was stated in the contract only 70% of confirmed tables. So the rest of my 30% wont be able to have invitation cards =(
 
Hi Nici

You dont need 100% of cards, cos you only need 1 card each for families and couples. Unless you are only inviting all singles, and no families/couples.

70-80% shd be ok.

Ya, i inviting mostly singles. Only inviting 2 tables of relatives, the rest all friends, that's why i'm worried 70% not enough...
 
Hi Nici,

Can negotiate to Shirley to have 100% invitation cards. She is ok with it. Have tried it and i think quite a lot of couples have succeeded as well! As for the Emcee, they can only do chinese and it will be the restuarnt staff.

I'm looking to have my wedding in Jul 2009 and as I only have about 150 guests, i have a hard time trying to find a restuarant/hotel!
I'm now thinking of GS and really love the look of it! And the idea of having a free band sounds good too!

Hi,

I have booked my dinner early last year so i suggest you make a trip down to get the latest package details. Heard the prices has changed quite a lot and prices going up again soon. So if you are keen, book early...

Maximum is only 26 tables, if you counting table of 10. Cos they have 6 tables of 5. I've emailed you the floor plan... take a look =)
 
Hi ppl, I have also picked GS for my AD which is on 08-Nov-08. Still thinking of what to wear for evening gowns? Any advise?

Mine also at GS but I am one week later then u... hehe... mine is on the 15-Nov 08. I am getting a Cheongsam as my Evening Gown. As the whole theme and ambience is more on Oriental/Shanghai... I suggest getting a cheongsam will fit well to the theme. Btw are u getting a projector for ur montage? I am getting one and worry ab the space where to put it.
 
Hi Cherry apple, I have thought of wearing a cheongsum too but the singer will also be wearing. The waitresses' uniform are also with mandarin collar so I have deicded not to wear cheongsam. I am having a headache now for the choice of colour for EG. Do u think Fushia pink is ok or would it clash with the place?

I might have a project in from of the stage.Ppl at the side might be blocked. No choice.

I will be wearing a cheongsam due to the theme and ambience will suit more in chengsam. Mine will be in shocking pink (shanghai pink)... i think fushia pink will be a very nice color... that day i was at my BS and she show me a fushia pink EG that belongs to other bride... it very nice lor...but hers EG is nt a cheongsam...

I also having a projector to be display... havent think where to put, beside I forgot how GSH look like now... hehe...

For those who wa the floorplan and the packages, I will try to send today... pls be patience to me...

Did any of u bring in yr own projector to GSH or don even use a projector?i scare the guests will be bored le..I thought of using the projector but i donno where to book and i had sign up with GSH.

I did not bring my own projector, cos really seems no place to place the projector image. Wont be bored lar. Cos got live band singing mah. Include some special programs if you want. For me, my fren helped me play a song on the piano for 1st entry (to make use of the piano there) and i sang a song for my 2nd entry (to make use of the Live Band)and i had fun!hee hee...

Emailed to you already! Gals, do note that for Grand Shanghai, after 1st march-in, you will go directly to be seated. Cake cutting & Champagin pouring & Thank you speech is after the 2nd march in.

Ya, i went food tasting. Had the pork knuckle dish changed, cos i find it too oily. Yes, i used their invitation cards. I find the cards quite classic leh.. hee hee

Just curious, we can request for special arrangement with the florist that GSH provided? Mine is in Nov, I havent go for food tasting yet... and I dont kw what to look/ask for when I go for my food tasting next month. Can someone advise me?

Just take note of all the dishes.
Which are the dishes that you like and dislike...
Meanwhile,Also ask for the restaurant menu for reference while you are eating. Scan through what's your preference.
For dislike, you can ask for alternative.Some is change without topping up the price.

Of cos not all special arrangements are FOC. U need to top-up. But u still can ask them what are the flowers can be used that is without any TOP-up.

When's ur wedding?

I did not bring any CD. Just use their live music and their own music as background, during champaign pouring and cake cutting. I did not ask for special arrangement for the floral portion.

For food tasting, if u intent to take their red wine, pls
