We had a great and amazing wedding at Grand Shanghai on 14 Jan 2011! All our guests were so high that they sang along with the live band and it looked as though we were in some concerts. The live band definitely lifted up the mood and spirit of the whole function. Definitely no regret holding our banquet at Grand Shanghai! Shirley, Sally and David were extremely professional and attentive to the details.
To all couples who are going to hold your banquet there, just enjoy your evening and let the staff do the work for you.

due to popular demand 
thought i'd post the cheapest package from Grand Shanghai, got it from them in Nov 2011.
$788++ for 10 pax
1.Cold Dish (Drunken Chicken, Jelly Fish, Smoked Egg, Crispy Eel)
2.Braised Shark's Fin with Crab Meat
3. Deep Fried Prawn with Wasabe Sauce
4. Steamed Soon Hock with Soya Sauce
5. Braised Abalone with Mushroom and Spinach
6. Fillet of Smoked Duck
7. Stir Fried Egg White with Scallops
8. Fried Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf
9. Shanghai Pastry
Other packages are at 888++ and 1088++
Min 20 tables, Max seems like 29 tables??
+ves:
Freeflow soft drinks, beer, chinese tea
100% parking.. awesome!
1 red wine per table
prices are the same for weekdays and weekends
dinner packages come with a complimentary 3 piece band
co-ordinator is friendly and obliging

The package offers $788++ , $888++ and $1088++ per table. Min 20 tables, Max around 28 tables.
It also includes:
Live bands
Beautifully designed invitation cards with envelopes based confirmed attendance. (exclusive of printing cost).
Guest's signature book for the wedding reception.
Freeflow soft drinks, beer, chinese tea.
1 bottle of red wine per table.
3-tier traditional decorated wedding cake.
Home-made cookies in decorative box for every guest.
Champagne fountain with a complimentary bottle of Champagne.
Wedding decorations of fresh floral centerpiece for all tables including fresh flower aisle stands.

I also had my wedding in Sept at GS! Great ambience, great food, staff are experienced and know what to do. all in all, as a bride all i did was concentrating on being a bride. thanks to GS and highly recommended. even the executive suite was better than expected too. at least better than the room i was shown when i sussed out grand copthorne banquet hall.

from what I see in the package (see link above), #13 says free food tasting for maximum 10 wor, so no need pay ma. most places I see also complimentary food tasting for 6 to 10. no need pay.

The location is definitely not extremely convenient like right beside the mrt station but most of my guest have no problem getting to the venue!!! although my father complained about the location when we did the food tasting but on the actual day he liked the venue and there were positive feedback from our relatives!! then he's alright!! haha
and it's not like your friends and relatives are going to grand shanghai everyday!!! it's for ur big day!! so i am sure they can manage!!! it's not so inconvenient after all!!! most importantly u like the ambience and the food!!
We went for grand shanghai cos we did not want a ballroom without windows as our wedding venue , we did not want a hotel venue... so we really looked at all restaurants and stuff...
and it's not like your friends and relatives are going to grand shanghai everyday!!! it's for ur big day!! so i am sure they can manage!!! it's not so inconvenient after all!!! most importantly u like the ambience and the food!!
