Wedding Vendors Offer Flexible Terms Amidst COVID-19

COVID-19 might have disrupted your plans, but don’t let it stop you from getting married.

Getting married to the love of your life has been a dream most brides have been waiting to fulfill since they were little girls, but the emergence of a global pandemic has made it harder than usual for this dream to come true for this and possibly next year’s brides. Stringent measures to tackle COVID-19 have been introduced all over the world, including air travel restrictions, quarantines and lockdowns, resulting in a major disruption of daily life. Singapore is no different. A Circuit Breaker has been implemented since the start of April to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Due to the stringent measures in place, many couples whose weddings were planned for the first half of the year have been forced to postpone or cancel their once-in-a-lifetime celebration. However, some couples encountered problems as they tried to work out the terms of postponement or cancellation with their vendors who were also coming to terms with the new set of measures at the same time.

Social distancing measures also meant that couples could not solemnise their marriage at the Registry of Marriages or elsewhere, leaving some disappointed. Couples who are currently planning their wedding for the later half of the year and next year are also unsure if they should proceed with their plans or not with the uncertainty of when measures would be relaxed or how long COVID-19 will last looming above their heads.

Virtual Solemnisations and Other Initiatives to help couples continue their wedding plans

Aware of the frustration, disappointment and difficulties that affected couples are facing, the government and independent wedding vendors have offered a helping hand to these couples to ease their concerns. Couples who wish or need to be married during the Circuit Breaker period can now do so remotely via a live video links, set to be implemented in the later part of May 2020.

Some wedding vendors, including bridal boutiques, photographers and venues, have also stepped forward with initiatives to help affected couples by offering waivers of postponement or cancellation fees and longer validity dates for new sign-ups. For your convenience, we’ve gathered the vendors who are offering help to affected couples and placed them in a list so you can browse through them easily to find the help you need.
