Can front load washing machine soak?

Hi guys, I'm new here.

Going to start the renovation of our new home (4Rm Flat) and was shopping around for electrical appliances.

Chances upon Brandt WFE-676A which were having the GSS promo @ $699. Is this worth buying? Heard from Salesman that this is 1-6kg with 600rpm. Is there diff on the rpm as i see most of you all talking about 800-1000rpm.

Basically i need something to serve 2-4 adults (Cos parents may or may not stays with us) plus a baby clothings. Also hope that it can deal with my king-size bedsheets etc.

Hi,

I am looking for a front load Washer for 2 person (me and wife). Budget is around $1000. Wife prefers a big drum (to be able to wash king-sized bedding stuff once in a while). Also, washing will be done once a week thus the big drum requirement again.

I am interested in getting the Ariston Aqualtis AQXXL 109 due to the big 8kg load, 1000 rpm and cost $1069. Have tried to search for reviews, but to no avil.

I have also read briefly though this thread and the main recommendations are Bosch, Electrolux and Brandt. If anyone can point out that Ariston is not favourable, compared to the 3 main players, please suggest the models.

Thanks much!

Hi,
I'm new here also. Very impressed with Ridz's knowledge on these appliances. I've also read his postings on other appliances and just as impressed.

Tek,
If you have little kids, I would recommend a washer cum dryer with large capacity (maybe at least 7kg). When my kids were very young, they would occassionally either throw up or pee on my king size bed... I'll have to wash the mattress protector which is pretty big and heavy. I also pray hard that my old 5 kg washing machine wouldn't break down after that wash! Thank goodness it didn't.

As for dryer part, I like the soft feeling of the fabric after the dryer cycle. You'll be very thankful you have this dryer during the rainy seasons especially when washing towels!

Hope it helps.

Sorry to post again so soon. But I think after reading again the many posts on washers/dryers and seeing the postings from twt and ridz, I have decided to go for Brandt. Particularly the WFK1018A washer and EFE310K dryer.

Hope the choice made is good. Fingers crossed!

Hi twt & ridz, just came back from PC Show and over there saw this Bosch WAS24441ME which is a made in germany 8litres & 400-1200rpm washer. Saw the same in Harvey Norman Suntec too which both the salesman intro to me. Price is 1499 before discount and bargaining.

Is this a new washer from Bosch? Any comment on this comparing to Brandt & Electrolux similar model?

jtek,

WFK1018A is the new premium line of Brandt front load washers. 8kg load, with slight titled drum and 1000RPM. Has the Opti45 function.

I got it with the EFE310K dryer, both together at $1688. It will be delivered at the end of the month.

Hi TEK,

I didn't ask for just the washer price. You can try going down to IMM Best to ask for a Brandt sales rep.

Hi Henry,

Hi,

I'm interested in getting a front load washing machine.
Budget: $1,000. Load: 6-7kg.

Preferably something with LCD / digital display that allows me to know the remaining washing time and self-timer so that I can preset to start the washing. Don't intend to buy a dryer, so I guess the spin rpm matters that much, am I right?

First time buying a washing machine and probably using it to wash 2 persons clothings, once or twice weekly

Any recommendation? Quite interested in getting a Brandt, but their website didn't show much model and spec.

Many thanks

Hi twt & ridz, any comment on EF washer? Was intro by a lady sales at Mega Discount Store on this EF WF 7121 @ only $700. She told us that this new EF model are made in eastern Europe, with the same quality as Brandt (cos same factory) but cheaper.

Is this worth buying?

Hi all, I think you can try a website called washerhelp.co.uk to understand how a particular washer works and reliability issues. its a site done by ex-washers repairmen in europe. However, some brands and models may not be available in sg.
Apparently Miele, elecrolux and bosch are highly recommended!cheers

washerhelp forum is an alternative. However, the origins are mostly from Europe... The models over in Europe are slightly different from the Asia market and as such, you will likely see a different model being compared.

At present, this is the most up to date website in Asia on FRONT LOADERS.

jtek,

The washers from EF and Elba are from the same factory as those of the previous one by Brandt.

Specs for Specs, there is definitely no doubt that it is a worthy machine except for minor features which are not present.

However, the make as seen is not as hardy as those compared to the Brandt washers.

You might wish to compromise and purchase one and you may then share with us your experience.

Otherwise, i would still stick by the more reliable and trusted Brandt machines.

cmlee,

The machine closest to your budget would be an electrolux machine( EWF 984/EWF 1084). This machine shows you the time left during the normal wash cycle.

Alternatively, you might want to try your luck on the previous models by Brandt which has since been discontinued. You might wish to shop around malls and asking if there is any display sets which are not being sold. I presume the price on offer will be at least 20% of the retail price, which is a good deal in my personal opinion.

Grab them as the previous series was a big hit amongst users in Singapore.

twt,

Ok, will check out the two Electrolux model mentioned.

Any idea when Brandt has discontinued those previous models, since they are supposingly a big hit previously? Are they launching some new models to replace them or are they pulling out from this region/market?

How to tell if display sets are reliable or not? What are the "risk" involved? For previous models, what are the recommended ones?

Thanks.

nath.. maybe u can visit on of the dealer shop to get their brochure... there is another model from brandt, i gues should be the same as WFK1018A but with digital display.. model is WFK1248A..

wondering anyone using this model WFK1248A. Higher RPM den WFK1018A.. planning to get that..

anise,

I've got one of their May 08 catalogue. Looks like only got two 6kg models (WFE876A & WFE676A) and two 8kg models (WFH1248A & WFH1018A). They don't have any other front loading washers (w/o drying function)?

I think the two 8kg models will cost over our budget rite?

How much will WKK1248A costs?

I'm open to other models/brands. Just wanna get something reliable, have time delay and (hopefully) digital display =)

From what I'd gathered in this forum, it seems like the Asian brands have yet to prove their worth in this Front Loading market, am I right?

nath.. there is another model WFH10771A which the saleperson recommended me.. but i dun like the button to open the door.. so that is out of my list already.. it comes with a digital display but dunno if it comes with time delay..

i checked and the lowest i cant get for WHK1248A is $1270... whats ur budget? alot of pple recommended miele but that's way too ex for 6kg.. =<

Nath,

The previous models were WFH 08771 , WFH 10771 and WFH 1277. Erm.. these model have been in the market for slightly more then 3yrs i presume so perhaps its time for a facelift and also to reach out to the new demands of consumer.

What i had seen previously around a month ago was their 8kg model at Best Denki. These new machines are replacing the 7kg series.
What caught my attention was the tilted drum which is supposed to be water efficient and most important better cleansing!!!!

Basically, display sets are a gamble. Just check with the sales staff how long has it been display there. Most of the display sets are not being used.

If you can get a display set at anything less then 30% of the price, it should be consider money well spent.

Nath,
I was using my Turbo washer cum dryer for about 8 years before I decided to change it recently. I still stick to the same brand as I find it quite reliable. I bought TWD6812.

I got their new catalogue for their washer & dryer and they have this model TW610 which is 6kg and 1000 RPM with LCD display. They have this 'delayed start', which I like it because both my husband & I work and we like to have our clothes washed by they time we're home.

I went to their website and it's $1060. One more option for you.

http://www.happiness.com.sg/main/product/ProductDetails.asp?ProductId=TW610#

Good luck!

I went to Best Denki at Taka yesterday; I think I'd saw that model with the tilted drum. Can't remember how much now. Hmm, the sales person there really piss me off.
sad.gif

BabyK,
Thanks for your recommendation. Hmm, the Turbo one looks good, but a bit ex for a 6kg machine. Btw, Turbo is manufactured where?

Btw all,
Is LG or Samsung Front loading machine worth looking at? Their specs looks good and pricing is definitely lower than the European brands but not sure about the reliability. Any comments?

Btw, child lock features is for preventing pple from opening the door (during or after washing) or to prevent the settings/programme being changed while the washer is in operation or both?

Without child lock, can one (child) able to open the door while the washer is operating?

Nath,
it's made in Italy. (printed on my machine)
As for child lock, I believe it's built-in as there's no child lock button. So far I believe most, if not all font-load machine should have this feature. It's to prevent the door from opening once the machine is turned ON. I tried changing spin speed & temperature while in operation before, so don't think it's for the latter.

Steven & Huijuan,
I used to have a 5kg washer and washed King size mattress protector (and with nothing else!) before. Always pray hard the machine doesn't decide to take a long rest after working so hard. Thankgoodness it didn't. As for bedsheet, no problem with 2 kingsize bedsheets & the pillow case etc together.

Curtain...depends on the size of your curtain.

Hi, I can't decide between,

- LG WD 14331D 8kg/ 4kg ~$1K at Best Denki, additional for extended to 5yr warranty

- Turbo INCANTO TWD6610 6kg/ 3kg ~$1263 fr http://www.happiness.com.sg/main/product/ProductDetails.asp?ProductId=TWD6610# (no extended warranty???)

- TURBO INCANTO TWD6812 8kg/ 5kg ~$1600

- Thomson TX898 6kg/ 3kg ~$1648 fr Courts with 5yr warranty

Any feedback? I'm leaning towards LG for its price but the press-button controls look flimsy and prone to wear-tear to me.
I prefer Thomson for its smallest footprint.

Don't mind front or top loading as long as horizontal axis spin. Must be all-in-one due to space constraints. Don't need high capacity though its a plus-point.

*MUST BE RELIABLE* My 4.5yo Ariston died on me- multiple organ failure! Motherboard, motor and door (door cos helper FORCE it open). I did like my Ariston- this was the first and last time I ever had to get repair to come in for it... but darn machine should have lasted longer.

Medusa,

All 3 machines are ok.

The turbo front loaders are newly launched machines. They are made in Italy with rather normal specifications.( i meant the water and energy efficiency). As for specs, nothing special. They come with a half load wash and features like delicate, cotton and most functions are almost similar to those compared to the Thomson and LG washer which you have mentioned.

All 3 machines can be purchased from departmental stores and also small housing estates shops. However, i am of the view that you should purchase the extended warranty. Pls proceed to any of the BEST DENKI outlet instead of Courts, HN or small shops as they charge you the cheapest for EXTENDED WARRANTY.

As for reason being why extended warranty should be bought is due to the fact that a 2 in 1 machine will always create 'more problem' then a separate washer and dryer. I dont think it is worth saving the extended warranty in your case.

You might want to seriously consider my opinion since you are having a space constraint.

Thx so much for ur reply, twt!

I'm interested in the extended warranty... but Best Denki does not sell the Thomson model at all, according to sales. Courts selling it $1648... do you know if there is any promo I missed (that I could probably wait for to appear again)?

hmmm best denki does not sell the thomson model.. thats weird... which store did you call on?

Probably can call another best store. if im not wrong its not on display but they have the prodeuct code. Unless that model is being phased out.. then thats a diff story.

Yeah extended warranty is a must i wouldk say for washer dryer for even the reliable ones can get pretty cranky doing 2 jobs at the same time.

Medusa,

I think you probably went to a Best Denki outlet which does not display a THOMSON TX 898 model. Pricing are definitely same for all models of washing machine. It is just that some are not being display due to space constraint.

Try quoting them the exact model and brand and they will definitely get you the pricing.

twt, ridz,
shucks, thanks- I specified to the sales at Century Tampines, he said they don't carry that Thomson model.

sidetrack abit, now I'm feeling nervous... my dishwasher has no extended warranty but bought from Courts- possible to buy now after half yr usage?

Medusa,

Not to worry. Maybe u can try calling the rest of the Best Denki outlet. Since you are residing near to the east, you might want to try Takashimaya best denki/vivo best denki/Junction 8 best denki or Katong Best Denki.

I believe these 4 outlets which i have mention should have that model. Worse come to worse, you may call IMM best Denki though it will be abit off your track since its located in the West.

I doubt you can purchase extended warranty now that it is half a year old for your dishwasher.

twt,
thanks for ur help
happy.gif
. Went to Parkway Denki and it seems their stores/ sales info varies cos they said the LG retails $1099 on promo- that $999 was for display model. Also informed that they DO carry Thomson model but OOS by agent.

Popped back to Century Denki and yup, $999 promo for LG... we bought it
happy.gif
.

Gosh, shucks now I'm worried abt my dishwasher!

twt

i have check the price this noon for electrolux EWF 1084 its 999 at HN and the person say thats promo price, but i notice in ur previous post dated apr, it is also 999. *scratch head* so 999 is not really the promo price wor.

i so blur, i only check the price but forgot to ask for more details

can i check with u for this machine, does it has
1) water lvl sensor(ie, if i put 4 clothes, it will not use full drum of water?
2)made in which country
3) is it noisy?
4)when it spin, will it 'moved'? (i have seen my friends top load WM jump when spinning)

thanks

hi twt

i found this in ur previous post.

EWF 1084
Exclusive model for HN.
Made in Thailand
7kg 1000rpm
variable spin speed
Metal catch
Stainless steel with "plastic" tub
59 litrs of water
AA rating

after all this months, will u still give this WM thumbs up?

has anyone used this WM? any comments?

tek,

not a bad product considering its ELECTROLUX. specs to specs, should nt be much of a problem.

$999/- is a price which is sold in most if not all HN stores.

In my personal opinion, gd catch if you are looking at this price range.

Hi Twt and Ridz, I've just seen the WFK 1018A new 8kg washer from Brandt. Looks quite good!!! gathered from HN sales person that WFH 10771A has been discontinued, is this true?

Is there any speciality for this new machine?

Is there any review on the WFK 1018A washer?

Sales person checked from the machine, and said it is made in England.... so is it considered realiable?

Anyone else out there looking to buy this??

I'm also keen to get a dryer, i've seen EFM 102k and EFE 310K price difference is about $200.. EFE 310K is more expensive, does it mean its better? Is there any other recommended dryer to go with Brandt washer??

well yeah cos the previous 7kg range is now replaced with the 6kg and 8kg machines.

i would still think the optiA 45 is the specialty of this machine which is for full load in about 45 mins while achieving A class for washing and consumption.

made in england? serious? turkey?

i was at best just now and there was this lady who asked the promoted which machine would give the most savings in terms of water and electricity.. the promoter recommended the 1018a from brandt.. and he went ranting on and on and even gave a comparison from the made in germany bosch machine which features the new drum.

i was standing aside.. well i was quite tempted to actually go over and tell the lady does she really need a 8kg washer if not.. probably should get the miele prestige plus 562 which i think would be a real steal given the price which is about 500 differnece from brandt.

well if you do a side by side comparison of course brandt features would be a bit more on the up to date side..

but if yo look for cusomisation of programmes i would think miele will give the best.

IF you look at specification and consumptions i would think miele will give brandt a tough fight..

for the size of the drum.. for brandt 8kg washer its 57 litres in size whereas miele is 55 litres for a 6kg rated.. something that isnt very far..

and lastly build and quality and reliability... miele will beat anyone else flat.

i would think at 1788 prestige plus 6 is much better than the 1018a..

just my thought yeah..

well for dryer wise.. i would ask you to take 310k.. it definitely has more features and consumption wise better than the 102.

hi TWT

Need your advices on washer & dryer

Whats ur view on Electrolux washer EWF 984?
Any recommendation for dryer that goes well with EWF984?

Thanks

if i could give my two cents worth..

can go for EDE429. its auto sensing. air vented dryer. rated 5kg but can be paired with up to 8kg. drum size big, quality of drying quite good.

HI Ridz,

Is the recommended Miele $500 more than the Brandt 1018A?

Its very likely that the washing machine is for 2 person, and of course at times to wash bed sheets of king size.

I dont really think 8kg is very necessary, but since this is a replacement of 7kg of the Brandt 10771, guess not left with much choice from Brandt.

I do agree that Miele is also a very good brand, only thing is that its the most expensive range hahahahaah....

As for the dryer, can i ask, will the clothes be "hard and crispy" after drying??? ahahahah reason why i ask is because in the past i used the dryer before and most of my clothes actually shrink,,, especially sweaters...

Ariston is this condenser dryer, so the sales person claims that this is much more gentle on the clothes, and does not give you that super "dry and crispy" feel, so the clothes are more comfortable.

I didnt actually thought of buying a dryer, cos it consumes quite a lot of electricity and was really considering hard if it is really necessary in Singapore, cos unlike other countries, dryer is necessary esp during winter time.

Problem is the new place i'm going to stay in does not have the typical hanging bamboo facility and hence, very likely clothes wont get to see the sun at all.. thus we are considering dryer.

But with 100rpm washing machine, to be honest, can the clothes be air dryed also ,,, with no stench???

hi nik nik,

well yeah since the 1018A is retailing something like around 1.2k right? the Miele prestige plus W562 is at 1788 thats about 500+ more from brandt.

That is miele promotional set, they still have i think but very very limited.

I will just post the specs here for yo to compare okie

Brandt
Price : about 1.2k (i think you shoudl know better yeah)
capcity : 8kg
Drum Volume : 57 litres
Max spin speed 1000rpm

consumptions based on 60 degrees cotton
electricity : 1.36kwh
water : 59

wash options
cotton
synthetic
delicates
opti A 45 ( nominal load at 40 degrees in under 45 mins)
Flash 15 - to freshen clothes
(im not exactly sure about the temperatuer setting it should be about the same and miele)

additional options that you may select on the machine to complement the wash.

easy ironing - a bit gentler so that the creases form are lesser.
intensive - lengthen the main wash timing
pre wash - it does a pre wash using detergent and then pumps out water then fill again with detergent to start the main wash to end

Miele
Price : 1788 (promo price set)
capcity : 6kg
Drum Volume : 55 litres
Max spin speed 1300rpm

consumptions based on 60 degrees cotton
electricity : 1.02kwh
water : 49

wash options (numbers indicate temperature setting)
cotton 95, 60, 40, 30
minimum iron 30, 40, 60
delicates 30, 40
automatic 40 (this is if you are washing mixed and dunno which one to set it will test the water absoprtion and then determine type of material and adjust the wash action and water level and duration automatically)
dark garments 40
shirts 40
denim 40
express 40 (max 3 kg load in about 33 min)
silks 30
wollen 30, 40

drain and spin only

additional options that you may select on the machine to complement the wash.

Water plus - increase in water in main wash n rinses
SHort- shorten the main wash timing
soak - you can select the machien to do a soak for you from intervals between 30 mins to 2hour
pre wash - it does a pre wash using detergent and then pumps out water then fill again with detergent to start the main wash to end

timer display- count down timer display only.

as for the question i would think for me a dryer would be a good to have cos of the busy working schedule unless i have a maid then different story. Clothes that come out from dryer have different drying quality. some may come out like what you say hard and crispy..

Electrolux ones arent too bad.. thomson also not too bad.. brandt also okie.. but of course miele is still best.. haha.. once its miele i think it was no turning to other brands

oh yeah for that 500 more for the prestige plus 6,

you are also paying for build quality
The front panel of miele is made of direct vitreous enamel that is guarantee against chipping or yellowing.

Reliability testing of continuous endurance test of 5200 cycles non stop.

The spray test- warm salt water sprayed on the exterior of miele washer and to pass the test no water should seep into controls from buttons etc.

door reliability testing - double hinge and metal catch. you really need to swing the door before it will shut.. unlike other where if you swing it would probably break the door hinge or the hook.

4 unbreakable cast iron support for drum instead of usual 2 in other machines.

the exterior drum is made of stainless steel which is more durable and less susceptible to puncture from coins flunked..

Nowadays most machine the outer drum is made from plastic.the outer drum is the one that holds the water not the one holding the clothes..

ANd also the omega beaters inside the drum is still made from metal not plastics. If you really go down and see the 2 machiens you run through your finger around the beater... metal ones are gentler and not so rough as plastic ones.

also miele drums the holes are smaller and much smoother than the others. so that during spinning less fibres are being hurled out hence lesser fibres breakage especially with its 1300 rpm (in higher end models it runs up to 1800rpm)

so indeed you are paying 500 but for a whole lot more.
