Shangri-la Hotel

hi gals,

i think mel is the overall incharge or at least her position is senior events manager.

my AD is on 20th Sep 2008 and I know there's another couple getting Island ballroom on the same date. I'm just thinking of saying hi here to this couple if you are around just as a friendly gesture. I know it's a bit hard to have 2 weddings going on at the same time but i'm sure we'll both do well

i agree wif u jo. when my bro had his wedding 2 years back, there were 2 other couples. in order to direct the guests to the correct ballroom, Shang put up photos of the couples along the walkway. sort of like "torches of lights". quite cool i mus say!

Hi all,

Can i check if any of your banquet contracts are affected by the F1 period? Apparently my contractual room rates in that period (for my overseas relatives) is $300++. However we have been recently told that they have revised the price to $1200++. And then again to $2400++ ( they notify us again a few days later that 2 nights is min.)
I needed 9 rooms and now i had to pay $21,600++ instead of the original $2,700++.

Prior to signing up we had emphasized that we'll require the rooms and were told that the rates is as per the contract. We were greatly dismayed with them dishonoring the contract, and making these changes time and again.
What's worse is that they PROMISE to revert to me given a dateline, and they did not. I left my contacts and they did not call either.
It has been most unfortunate that we have booked Shang for our banquet and I can say that i have been given 0-star service from a 5-star hotel:
since now i can neither place my trust in the contract nor the staff.

We don't think we deserve such service given that we'll be paying close to $100K for the banquet and that we have not haggled for any perks such as extra night stay, but we emphasized to them that these rooms are of primary importance to us.

If any of you brides out there are being affected by this same reason, pls contact me or drop me an email at [email protected]

hi jas...i am shocked to hear your case...ran immediately to double check on my contract with Shangrila.. according to what i have signed, the room rates are 300++ for the tower deluxe room as part of a special rate.... i would need a few rooms for my wedding as well... if your case is true, i am in for a good time as well...

who is the manager who informed you about this increase in pricing? it honestly doesnt appears reasonable to me AT ALL..

when did you sign your contract with Shang? was it before or after the F1 news being announced in Singapore? when is your AD?

it is indeed disappointing to hear that Shang is providing such level of service given that they are the 2nd most premium hotel banquet around...

calling all BTBs, lets do something about it?

hi gals,

my contract says 300+ too...when is the F1 period? Will it be only affected the very week or the whole month?

I really think it's uncool of them to raise it to that price...it's ridiculous paying that amount for just a 5 stars deluxe room.

Jas, are there no room for discussions? When is your AD?

hi ladies,

thanks for your concern

the affected period is ard 24th ~ 29th sept. dun worry if your date is not within this period.

I spoke to both jean and melanie on this matter - and both said the same - the marketing director is very firm on having the $2400++ rates for the tower deluxe room. I also understood from them that there are several couples affected by this hike in rates. And they are negotiating for all of us with the director, but to no avail.

The course of 'negotiation' has taken almost a month and it's going nowhere so we had made the reservations with the $2400++/2 nights - to secure the rooms 1st.

anyway i didn't want to create a ruckus and sour any relationship but i hope to solve this amiably. sadly it seems to be going nowhere. i have seek legal advice on this issue and i was told that the case is favorable for me - shang has no right to annul the terms of the contract.

hence if any of you out there who are affected, email me pls. i hope to present our case firmly but amiably to the marketing director. only last resort- litigation.

Hi ylb/joen,
i signed up sept last year. my AD is 27 sept this yr
happy.gif
i'm not sure if it was announced, but i guess so! even if it's not, contractually, it's something the hotel has to bear with.
it's part & parcel of doing biz. cannot be because of F1, they realise they can make more $ out of us and decide to now charge us so much more right? come to think of it, i hope they won't suddenly increase $ for the banquet, wine, projector etc as well. i'll faint :p

hey jas,

I looked through the contract and I agree with your legal advisor that you are at the winning end. I suppose you signed on every page of the contract including the one that states the prices of accommodation. This is really ridiculous. I'm just lucky to miss it by 1 week. I'm one week before you. Lucky for me, my guests choose to stay in Marriott. If not I'll be in big trouble if the date gets me.

Anyway i really hope Shang will compensate you in some way. This is not what a 5 stars hotel should do. They should stick to the terms written as much as they expect us to follow every single sentence.

If you are really not taking it further since you booked the room already, maybe you want to ask for more freebies from them in terms of the banquet or meals or even return stay for anni. I heard that they have a really nice brunch which is rather expensive. Maybe can get them to provide for all your guests. In that way can help save a bit damage. But of cos if you are going to pursue it further (after your wedding), then better dun take their freebies.

Hope it all goes well for you. Don't let it affect your mood. I understand how it is for you...it's already hard doing all the wedding planning and here we are with unscrupulous vendors. Take it easy gal!

hi jas,

my AD is one week after yours.. havent been informed that there will be a room rental increase... but honestly, i feel u will be better off getting ur relatives to stay at other hotels than at shang... the rates are absurb!

rem the Nokia case recently? abt this lady who tried negotiating with Nokia about the replacement of the faulty hp but to no avail...finally after a court case and having the issue bought to the attention of the media, the issue was resolved with Nokia coming out and apologise for not knowing about the case..

i think we ought to learn something out of this case... we cant let shang increase the rates (room rental in this case) just like that...like what u said, we never know when they might come back to tell us that they have to increase the price of the banquet, food etc... when that happens, its too late...

for a hotel like shang, its absolutely unacceptable for such cases to happen... please keep all of us posted regarding any outcome..

hi ladies,

actually we're using Shang rooms for sheer convenience for the overseas guests - since Shang is not exactly very accessible.

i did try to negotiate to see if they can put us up at the sister hotel - trader's - and provide shuttle service. but they have yet to revert with the outcome after more than a week. it's hard to contact the banquet mgr and they did not revert as promised
sad.gif

i found the whole process too dragging hence i had no choice but to make reservations first - lest my guests sleep on the streets. haha.

it's so time consuming and emotionally stressful to deal with this, and i'm thankful for all your help and i do hope to be able to contact the folks who are affected by this too. do let me know if you happen to know them
happy.gif

oh and yes, i did sign at every page of the contract - that's why i believe i have a case to fight for :p

hi ladies!

just wanna share the status for the room rates issue: shang has reverted that they are now offering to us the rates at $380++, but capped at 10 rooms. this is SO much better than the $1200++
happy.gif
however i still hope that they can abide by the contractual rates @ $300++. so i'm just leaving it to CASE ( i've actually took this case to CASE before they revert to us....so well....just see if we can get the best case scenario ie. the contracted rates).

Hee....as for my bf, he says it's better not to try to reduce to $300 lest they give us some rooms in a secluded corner. Hahaha, but i doubt so.

Just to share my experience at a wedding dinner. I didn't enjoy the food at Shang one bit... and my table costs $2k plus. Me and hubby were planning where to go for supper during our second last course. And there was no proper table service!

Hi all,

Anyone interested in booking with Shangri-La and taking over my package? Will definitely be able to save more compared to booking with Shang directly.

Those interested pls email me at [email protected]

Thanks!

Hi ybbubippah, the carpets leading to Island ballroom had this old, musky smell. The roast piggy had waited out too long and skin was tough and hard. My bowl of shark's fin had the entire fin inside (hence the cost of $2k per table) but soup was SALTY. Everyone in my table commented likewise. As with other dishes, such as the fried rice, vegetables, etc. And the wait for every dish was painfully slow. We had to wait for our servings to be portioned at one side by the waiters who gave everyone mini portions. Barely enough! We did not even get to see the dish served to us as one whole on the lazy susan. Felt like I only had appetizer during my last course and was planning where to head to for my entre. Well, in all fairness, the ballroom is grand and had a high ceiling but so is M Hotel's ballroom. Advice to all - tell your planner to inform chefs to go easy on the salt. And for Christ sakes, if it is a must to hand out food in individual portions, then remind them that it's not a food rationing exercise. And please don some masks and caps for hygiene's sake.

i agree with cindy - it leaves much to be desired.

last time my guy fren had to walk to the side server table to literally get the tea before they poured the tea for us since we have asked for it several times and it didn't come. Not that they were busy - they were crowding at the server table talking amongst themselves. The servers are mostly from China (i think) and very blur.... (i've nothing against PRCs..i state it here merely as info)

but to be fair to them, it could be bcos the dinner had 103 tables cramped into the ballroom and the servers were mostly inexperienced. one guy couldn't portion the fish properly, and went to drag another lady to help.

Food-wise not memorable...very average food.

guess for us who have signed up with Shang, we just have to manage our expectations...so that we don't get too disappointed. it's supposedly to be a happy occation, so just close one eye....or two if need be :p

Hi ALL Ex Shang Brides,

Im just wondering whether the Bridal Room - Horizon Club Premier Room big enuf accomodate 4 MUAs and a group of ladies?

Anyone of you upgraded the room at your own cost? Which is a better option of room type?

dsenaputra

Hi

In my personal opinon the room is not very big - unlike other bridal suits it does not have its own "living room"

I actually gave up 01 night stay in exchange for another delux room

hi glam,

got your PM - my wed coord offered me a suite upgrade automatically since we're selecting a more expensive menu.

hmm, i think the normal bridal suite is too small to accommodate 9-10 ladies + 4 MUA. why not you discuss with your coord to see if they can offer you a day room at no cost? otherwise i suggest you book a room for the ladies - it's $300+ only, compared to upgrading your suite which i think would cost much much more!

Hey there!

actually i didn't change the location

only the number of nights.

One night stay in our Horizon Club Premier Room, Tower Wing (open-concept) (instead of 2)

Are you planning to hold your solemnization there too?

Hi Jas (Jasmini),

Which suite will you be taking? The Valley Wing 1 bedroom suite?

I already have a day room from 2-8pm, but I thought will be nice to have the ladies with me. So still contemplating. =)

Hi Diana,

I think the original package is already the Horizon Club Premier Room. I am thinking whether this room is big enuf or suffice hold all the ladies and MUAs in... and whether much difference compared to the Horizon Club Premier Suite or Valley Wing 1 bedroom Suite?

jasmini

New Member
Yes it's the Valley Wing 1-bedroom suite. I don't know what is the diff though, apart from knowing it's a supposed 'upgrade' - since it's offered to me complimentary, i'll just take it
happy.gif

I vaguely recalled it costs quite a sum for the upgrade...something like $700 or $1k...
