I just attended my friend's wedding at hilltop. I asked my 2 girlfriends to be the emcees on that night... so I had to be with them when they rehearse on stage.
So I tried to help by asking the manager in charge what he will do to signal my friends at the different times throughout the dinner...
I guess I was getting on everyone's nerves... so my friends kind of tell me to shut-up and they are sure the manager would have seen more wedding dinners than all 3 of us combined, so he will know how to do everything prefectly. So I left them alone.
And the dinner start and my friends went on stage to give the welcome speech and show the childhood photos and then welcome the newly wedded. The timing of everything I just mentioned above was off. We have to wait like 10 sec for the photos to appear, there were too many pics so one song ended and there were still photos appearing... we see slient photos for like another 10-15secs before the next song starts then after my friends ask everyone to stand to welcome the couple, the whole hall waited in slient for 15-20secs for the music to start so the doors can be open to let in the couple.
Then after the first dish is served, my friends came to my table, and told me that the manager did not q them at all about when he is going to play what, and when they tried to get his attention from the stage to start the music and other stuff, they were not able to get his attention, though he was just sitting at the side of the stage.
So in the end, I am to sit beside the manager for the next part of the dinner, to work with my friends on the timing of the program. (2nd march-in ... wedding photos, morning express video).
Lesson learned here; always put someone on your team near the stage to coordinate the timing of your dinner program. I know I will be doing that for my own wedding in Joy Garden next year...
