Grand Park City Hall

Had our wedding celebration in GPPH, Cityhall last Saturday. We would like to thank Janice, our hotel coordinator and her team for a great job done.

Service was prompt when there was a accidental spill by one of the guests. Small gestures by going the extra mile like getting me warm water just before the 1st March-in.

Great food! Excellent job!

Hi supergal

Food portion was big and they couldn't eat after the garoupa dish. The prawns served were also huge.

Some did comment that the fish was overcooked and food were served rather cold. Overall, our guest loved the food.

hi sam,

thanks for sharing! i realised that most of the wedding banquets that i have attended, the fish always seemed to be overcooked! but well, as long as it is fresh, it will still be acceptable for me!

glad to know that the portion was big. couldn't eat after the garoupa? and your garoupa was which dish on your list of 9 dishes for your menu? but well, that's something good to know as well..as least we know that our guests won't have to go for supper after our wedding..hehehe!

you took the baked large prawns in butter sauce? i'm curious to know how it will turn out but thought this sounds like a more unusual dish as compared to steam prawns. and the prawns have their shells peeled slightly for easier consumption right?

what did you take for dessert? i'm thinking whether i should take the mango sago with pomelo or change to something else..

hi all,

Recently i attended a frenz of mine wedding at grand plaza. In the afternoon, when they wanted to checked in they had to wait for 20-30 mins before they can get the rm... wondering if any couple happened it before during ur weddin day as i quite as my wedding is on end of this yr.

Hi all,

I'm tentatively booked at GPCH for Jul 09.

Sam, like supergal, i'm wondering abt the prawn dish too. Not sure if Prawns in BUTTER sauce would put off my health conscious guests. Was the dish heavy and were the prawns peeled or with shell on? Thanks for sharing

Janice has sent me the alternative cooking methods, and they are:
Drunken Live Prawns with Chinese Herbs
Steamed Live Prawns with Chinese Wine
Deep Fried Large Prawns in Wasabi Sauce topped with Sesame Seeds

It's impossible to please everyone, so I would take the dish which will appeal to most people.

For dessert, I'm wondering if Yam Paste is too heavy to round up a 9 course dinner.
Supergal, personally, I think Mango Sago with pomelo is hard to make in a huge quantity for banquet coz they got to cut the mango up in advance and the fresh fruit tends to oxidise and turm brown. There was a review from another bride that this dessert was the only blemish on the menu, other than that, everything was really great!

i not too sure.... I tink they last min then provide the suite for them thats y there is a delay. Furthermore, the room they are given is smaller than wat they saw during the bridal show...

Hi Sassy and Supergal

The Prawn in butter sauce is quite an impressive dish actually due the the size of the prawns. Guests were impressed with the size and freshness (some of it with roe) and were convinced that the dinner was not the cheaper menu. It's actually not oily and is served unshelled, sliced in the centre with the flesh exposed.

Ops by the way, the mango pomelo that day was great unlike the previous review i wrote earlier about its freshness. Mango served was not brown and was freshly cut too. Not too heavy for guests also.

Cheers!

Hi Valarie_Tan

We checked in at around 230pm on the AD and we were attended almost immediately without any delays as all the rooms access cards were ready upon check in.

Valerie, if that's the case, i may also want to highlight to my co-ordinator about this during the day when i checked in..but so far, haven't heard from other brides facing the same problem..but still, will take note.

about bridal suite, don't expect that you can be given the presidential suite and my husband and i have already noted that this priviledge may only be extended to us, subjecting to room availability..also, i think usually at the wedding show, the co-ordinators will show the lower range of the suite to couples first (so that the expectations are not pitched too high)..so not sure whether if your fren misunderstood the fact they will be given the higher range suite..

Sassy, personally, i dont really fancy drunken or steamed live prawns because usually, the prawns are smaller and fully shelled..so not a very popular dish for ladies..thus i share Sam's sentiments about having the Butter/Wasabi Sauce Prawns..think Butter Sauce should be generally acceptable to most age groups..but heard the Wasabi Sauce version is also quite good!

hi everyone,

just to highlight some points since my wedding is getting nearer.

the bridal suite will depend on availability. normally given was governor suite. you wont expect like presidential suite. as for check in time, it will be better to highlight to your coordinator on your arrival.

i had my food tasting 2 months ago. the drunken live prawns was absolutely very big and fresh. although there is hiccups on my prawn dish, in the end it turn out well.

Hi supergal,

The problem is during the bridal show they was being showed to oriental suite style. But during their actual day, they were given to orchid suite style. I was wondering why this is happened to them as i nv saw any thread mention abt this.

hi valerie,

it's all depend on hotel.

as you mentioned, you were shown oriental suite style during bridal show, this is because the other room was not available for viewing. when come to their AD, the oriental suite was not available for them so they were given orchid suite style.

normally the hotel dont book the suite room in advance for wedding couple for AD and the coordinators always highlight that it's all subject to availability.

the hotel always give priority to their hotel guests to stay in higher-end suite room rather than giving to wedding couple because they dont earn much money from us. we are paying for the package and the suite room stay is just a perk in the package.

i did request for govenor suite from my coordinator for my up-coming wedding but she reminded me that the room will subject to availabilty on our AD. so dont always pin high hope on it. i remember there are couple who are lucky to get presidential suite, it's all depend on luck.

hope you understand to this issue. cheers.

i was checked in to Orchid Suite on my wedding day & was kinda disappointed cox it's just 2 superior room joining together. I called them up to express my dissatisfation and they later upgraded me to governor suite.

as for prawn, depending on your guest...for mine, i have more young folks to old folks. Hence i chose wasabi prawns & really received good feedback from my guest.

As for dessert, you all can try the red bean with glutinous rice...its nice and the old folks love it

Thanks everyone for your feedback!

Supergal, for prawns, I think I'd go either with Butter Sauce or Wasabi. For Herbs or Drunken Prawns, some people don't like herbs, some can't take alcohol. But now, both Butter Prawns got such a good review from Sam and you said their Wasabi have a good 'reputation', it's a toss up! Maybe FH and I will do a coin toss.

Sam, Cheys28,
Do you know what's the varietal of House Wine given? I heard it's Wolf Blass but WB has SO many types, I'm not sure which one. I'm thinking of buying the same wine to top up the extra bottles so that my guests don't get a surprise when they're first glasses and last few glasses of wine taste different.

Suite: I've gotten Janice to put me in a suite (not sure which one yet) and 'convert' the coordinators room into a 2nd night stay for us. But she already told us the 2nd night stay will be in a normal room with no breakfast.

hey sassy..

if the hotel is really serving wolf blass, it will just blow me away! i heard so much good reviews about wolf blass wines being one of those top grade wines and i've tried one of their white wines and my frens and i love it! i'm not really into wine, so don't know much about them..so would probably just go with other pple's reviews..

as for the suite's second nite stay, my co-ordinator didn't confirm that we can exchange the helper's room to a second nite stay cos he said we can only confirm this when our wedding date is nearer..well, my hubby is not really into a second nite stay and i'm alrite with or without it..thought of exchanging it into an anniversary stay as well..

my suggestion is to have a 2nd nite stay...cox imagine you're dead tired after your wedding night & you're asked to check out of the room at 12pm the following day...still got so many things yet to pack etc...at least with a 2nd night stay, you can sleep till 12pm (provided if your hubby do not have any hang-over), have your lunch, start packing, 5pm go walk walk ard City Hall, dinner...then back to hotel. Usually you will still be in the happy wedding mood and will not wish to return to the reality (back to your own house) so soon...haha

Hi Hi..

during the wedding show I take note of the wine as I also wanted to buy extra bottles of red wine so that my guest dont get surprise too..Same thinking as Sassy...

If I am not wrong it is Wolf Bass Red Label..Wolfbass has yellow label, red and think is blue right? I check out the price is about $22 to $25 per bottle at carroufour but Gpph is selling at $28

hi.. might be thinking to get GPPH ....how is the deco and themes offer by GPPH? nice? any pics to share? ..
cheys28.. how is their governor suite?

Hi Sam.. I thought the wine is Wolf Blass Carbernet..or is it refers to the same? Hee or have they change...

Prissie, If I remember correctly the deposit should be $3k

the Governor suite is nice & cozy. i personally feel that it is nice enough cox after all, you may not have the chance to use the outdoor jacuzi at the presential suite ( i think so). The Governor suite is really nice

renee..my co-ordinator also never confirm with me..i asked him when we were discussing the contract but he never say a yes..

but i guess if really can change, like what you mentioned, perhaps need top-up? or like 2nd nite no bf? but anyway, the 2nd nite not really impt to me..

cos i won't be needing the helper's room..so when my AD is closer, will check to see what can this be exchanged for i guess..if not, perhaps can let my in-laws stay there for the nite..since my parents drive but my in-laws don't =)

supergal: oh? i tot the helper's room is only until 8pm? its overnight? i kinda interested in getting 2nd nite cos think its pretty rush to settle everything in one nite.. hope to relax more la.. heez

btw, when's ur AD?

Oppsss..sorry...just realised that mine is actually Oriental Suite, not Governor (heehee)... but i seriously feel that the Oriental Suite is good enough

renee..i took the sat package..so the helpers got a one nite stay but doubt my jie meis would want to stay overnite..so thought of upgrading it to a second nite stay initially..but husband said perhaps change to anniversary stay (if possible) would be better..

mine is on 24th oct this year..yours?

Hi Cheys28, i think u're spot on abt taking the 2nd night stay instead of having to check out at 12pm the next day after your wedding! Not sure if we'd be alert enough to count the AP money to pay the bills at 12pm the next day! :P

Wine: I called Yi Bin (anbother GPCH coordinator)and he says it's Wolf Blass Bilyara. WB Red/ Yellow labels are higher end, Bilyara is lowest end for WB, but it's free house wine, so that's to be expected. I think for red, it's the CabSauv. Not sure which white varietal they're providing coz I think I'd like to provide my guests with a choice of both red and white. Extra bottles I bring in maybe red only coz red tends to be more popular than white.

renee..so fast the hotel open for bookings up till july 2010 already arh?

but it's good that you booked early, to secure your preferred date
happy.gif

supergal: oh i booked mine from the last wedding show.. but seems like they are not accepting any more booking for 2010 after tat.. so i am quite lucky.. i understand there's a change of management..

is there a change of management? i thought it is only a rebranding process that the hotel is going through now..that's why there is a name change for the hotel..

cos i believed it is still under the park hotel group isn't it?

renee,

anyway, whatever it is, i don't think it will affect us too much i guess..

as long as the hotel can deliver what they have promised us, it's fine with me.

well, i've always have a good impression of this hotel, so hoping that everything will proceed well till my wedding =)

hi gals.. just cfm taking GPPH with janice.. went for viewing this week.. nice and cosy feeling.. with high ceiling and spacious reception cocktail area.. however..i guess they are quite tough to throw in the 2nd nite stay or any additional items u request...

fionie, actually i would think this hotel's wedding package is already quite comprehensive in terms on items le..and also because their prices are nett, it will be quite hard to get them to throw in more freebies..think most hotels who have nett packages also work this way i guess..

anyway, congrats on your confirmation! we have one additional GPPH/GPCH bride now
happy.gif

Got an e mail for GPCH that Henry has left. Really shocked to hear the news. William is taking over my banquet now and he seems like a good manager. Was very prompt at answering my e mails. Also very willing to take the extra step. Have a good feeling about him. Hope he matches up to expectations : ) keke
Anyone else had Henry as their manager?

yeah me too! really shocked to know that..haiz

but my husband and i have met william before during the wedding show...think he is the sales director if i'm not mistaken...

anyway, henry has been good when he was our co-ordinator..so hope for the best for him!

Hi Jasmine, may i know when is yr AD? We have not received an official email from GPPH about this. We got to know this shock news from you.

any ideas if GPPH having any outdoor venues to do the rom?? coz i m having my rom earlier.. so now still thinking of the venue...

kristle, rem that your AD is coming up soon rite?

better quickly check with the hotel to see who is taking care of your things from now on...
