Rick,have you found ur coordinator? Ours was Mandy-shes really patient and respond to your qns promptly. Do agree they are nt really lax with their perks. However,i went down to view one of the weddings recently and the black and red theme (with rose petals on the tbl) look classy and elegant for those who aint superstitious. Hopefully no glitches nearing n on AD..=)

Hi everyone,
Long posting, but I appreciate your advice/feedback, as I'm not sure whether to hold my wedding dinner at Hyatt's Grand Ballroom.
I have always preferred hotel ballrooms that are pillarless (plus point if they have high ceilings too). As mentioned in some threads, Hyatt has ballrooms that are pillarless but those are not able to accomodate more than 60 tables.
Grand Ballroom can max 70 tables and has a nice feel. I like its stage backdrop and reception area
The downside is the pillars in the middle of the room, which block some tables' views from certain angle/distance. Also, given its low ceiling, the pillars somehow makes the room smaller. For the same price or less, I could probably get a big pillarless hotel ballroom, with high ceilings somemore - e.g. Orchard Hotel (one star lower though?).
Nonetheless, I'm still considering Hyatt because it's a good hotel and I feel comfortable with it. Most importantly, I read mostly positive feedback on the service, food, coordinators, etc.
So, the bottomline is should I let the pillars affect my decision? We are also considering Ritz Carlton and Shangri La but the latter (our 1st choice) is not available on the dates we want
As for Ritz, you all know lah, grand but heard that its food/service is only average, hence not worth its costly package??
I now need to decide among Hyatt, Ritz & Orchard Hotel. Not very 'wowed' by Orchard though, but its package is the most attractive (in nett terms) + known for its good food (Hua Ting)...

I totally agree that she's a good coordinator. If I heard correctly, she has around 15 years of wedding planning experience??
I met her yesterday and felt very at ease. Though it was after office hours, she was very patient answering our many questions. I like her sense of humour & her professional working style - upfront and doesn't 'sweet coat' things.
Mandy definitely increased my positive impression of Hyatt. If I do sign up with Hyatt, I'm glad to have Mandy as my wedding coordinator! Meanwhile, to continue discussions with families...

The room i m having only caters to max 20 tbls and there are pillars too but i guess alternative is to get 2 LCD projectors so frm all angles, the guests are able to view video montage etc but other than that, the events on the stage might be a prob but usually all that's on the stage is when the couple is toasting and giving their speech so if it matters to you greatly that the pillars are going to be an obstruction,u might need to think again.

nope,not inviting too many ppl...only 19-20 tbls so will be in the camelia room. I signed up last yr as its difficult to secure year end wedding banquets as many will be booked. When's urs?

Hi, I'm not sure of the ceiling height but i think it's at least 3 metres. Not exactly very high, but won't feel "cramped" by the height either. Min is 25 tables for weekend and max out is 29 tables. It's pillarless.

Infact i am holding my banquet for 20tbls at Camelia room..some ppl feel it is quite dark but i think i am fine with it becos i like the classy effect-with black and red, nothing too bright..if you like intimate settings, GH will be the choice for you

Initially I was contemplating between these hotels too. Intercontinental has very nice ballroom but it is slightly beyond my budget, esp when i'm looking at saturday (even more ex for auspicious date) and I heard that the food is normal. Then deciding between Hyatt and SMC. Ultimately set my mind on Hyatt (jun '09) as I do believe that the food is much better (tried some of the dishes during their wedding showcase) and heard quite good reviews abt the food too. So eventually I chose food over the ballroom (SMC does have nice ballroom and a private reception area but think food also so-so and don't really like the uniform of the waiter/waitress.. heh..). These are juz my 2 cents worth of thoughts.
So depends on what is your priority. Wish you success on your search for the ideal hotel.
PS: According to earlier post there is a wedding showcase this coming Sat at Hyatt. You can call and check it out. It would be good if you can go and have a look.
