Every couple wants the ideal picture for their once-in-a-lifetime – the perfect location, dress, decor, flowers, cake and of course, the perfect weather. It is also undeniable that dry weather makes orchestrating a wedding far more predictable and easier than wet weather. Plus, a clear and sunny day is often associated with happiness and positivity, which complements a joyous occasion such as a wedding perfectly.
With the weather getting more unpredictable in recent years, couples planning to tie the knot tend to worry and dread having rain on their wedding day, especially if they are getting married during the wetter months. Although the wet weather may make executing your wedding plans trickier than usual, many cultures worldwide believe that rain on your wedding day may be a positive sign! Find out the six reasons why rain is considered good luck for your wedding here.
1. Rain is often associated with cleansing and fresh beginnings
From ancient times, water has often been associated with the symbolism of cleansing and new beginnings. Likewise, the presence of rain on your wedding day represents a powerful metaphor for the beginning of your married life. It symbolises the washing away of the old, allowing you and your partner to start your married life together on a clean slate.

But fret not, we’ve got some tips to help you prepare for a wet wedding.
1. Think of the Positives
While rain might not have been part of your plan for your big day, especially if you are planning for an outdoor solemnisation ceremony or wedding dinner, try to look at the positives in the situation. Firstly, any amount of rain will be a memorable and unique experience for you and your guests, and make for a great story to tell your kids and grandkids in the future. Secondly, the rain will put your wet weather plan in action, which may result in celebrating your nuptials under a tent with romantic fairy lights alight.
Since no one can predict or control the weather, you’ll get a one-of-a-kind wedding you’ve always wanted, albeit not the one you’ve envisioned, but perhaps one that exceeds your imagination. It’s the perfect opportunity to pose in the rain with your love for some unique photos that you can never re-create, resulting in keepsakes that you’ll cherish for the rest of your life. The gloomy, overcast sky that lingers after the rain is gone also adds on to the romantic atmosphere, making your celebration extra dreamy.
2. Plan Ahead

With global warming happening around the world, even if you are planning to wed in one of the drier months, it can never hurt to have a wet weather plan or two. Speak to your venue and wedding stylist to discuss your options for your wet weather plan – whether erecting a tent for your outdoor wedding is possible and if you need any changes to your wedding styling in that instance.
You should also prepare a wet weather kit for your guests, in case it rains on your wedding day. Prepare raincoats or umbrellas so your guests can shelter from a mild rain, or bug and mosquito repellants for an after-rain situation if your wedding is outdoors with plenty of greenery around. Once you’ve worked out these details, you’ll feel more reassured about any possible weather condition, including rain.
3. Relinquish Control
Once you’ve set up wet weather plans with your venue and stylists, try your best to let go of any control. Don’t over stress yourself if you check the weather app and it predicts a rainfall on your wedding day, or the rain cloud that you spy in the sky as you journey towards your wedding venue. Even if it starts to drizzle or pour as you are getting ready, try not to get upset over the less than desirable weather and learn to relax. This will go a long way to alleviating a lot of unnecessary anxiety and help you enjoy your unique celebration better. Focus less on the weather and trying to control it; instead, focus on what matters most on your wedding day – the celebration with your family and friends, and of course, the love of your life.
