Fion and Shawn’s Vintage Pre-Wedding Shoot at Bukit Timah Railway

Fion and Shawn captured vintage fun in bright yellow train cars in their adorable pre-wedding shoot at Bukit Timah Railway with their two dogs!

Fion Quak, 33, Interior Designer, and Shawn Gabriel Tiang, 31, Army Personnel, revived their old friendship when they chanced upon each other on a dating app. Shawn surprised Fion with a proposal celebrated by her closest friends and family, and the couple captured nostalgic 90s vibes in their adorable pre-wedding shoot at Bukit Timah Railway, with their two dogs. They then bared their souls in a grittier, old Hong Kong-inspired shoot in vintage malls, shot on film.

How did the two of you first meet?

We were friends during our time at polytechnic, but we lost contact after graduation. Many years later, we reconnected on a dating app. It was amusing because initially, all we wanted to do was catch up! Meeting an old friend on a dating app is quite rare, after all. However, I suppose we really hit it off during our first few dates!

What do you love most about your partner?

Shawn: Her energy, the effort she puts into everything she does, and how understanding she is. How we were able to connect deeply and emotionally.

Fion: I love that we can always face our issues together and not sweep them under the rug, no matter how tough or uncomfortable the topic gets. And how he will always try his best to change for the better as we improve in this relationship together.

What was the proposal like?

Shawn: Stressful but fun, thankful to have a good brother to help, shout out to Wilson Poh. And definitely to all our friends and family who made the time to join in on the surprise.

Fion: He proposed at Gardens by the Bay on the pretext of bringing the dogs for some playtime after our anniversary dinner together! It was unexpected for me but I’m touched and happy that he pulled together all my close friends and family to celebrate this joyous occasion with us.

Where did you go for your shoot?

We both wanted our dogs to be a part of the photo shoot, so we decided to have it in Singapore instead of planning an overseas shoot, even though we initially wanted to shoot in Hong Kong for that 90s vibe. We brainstormed with our photographer and opted for two different styles of vintage shoots. In the morning, we visited Bukit Timah Railway with our dogs to capture a lively and fun vibe. In the evening, we headed to the older shopping malls, Excelsior and Peninsula Shopping Centre at City Hall, to infuse a 90s vibe, which will be the basis for our wedding theme.

Our photo shoot was a lot of fun! There’s no denying that shooting the whole day was tiring, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will always cherish. We’d like to give a big shout-out to our photographer, Gloria, for making us feel so comfortable during the photo session. Our goal was to capture our true emotions and expressions, rather than having just a typical wedding shoot, and we’re thrilled that Gloria delivered exactly what we had envisioned!

When will the wedding be?

Fion: Our wedding will be on 12 November 2023! We are just one month away from the wedding and hopefully we can get most of the items nailed down with no last minute rush! Fingers crossed.
