Kulvin and Dilip’s Gorgeously Bright and Colourful Luxe Coastal Wedding in Da Nang
Kulvin and Dilip’s gorgeously colourful and vibrant Indian wedding celebrations were held over three days on the coast of Da Nang, Vietnam, where they paid homage to their beautiful love story with cultural rites themed around their first meeting and first date in Singapore.
Kulvin Kaur, 28, Business Development, and Dilip Bhagwan, 31, Real Estate Broker and Business Owner, commemorated their first meeting in a nightclub and first date at the Singapore Night Safari in their colourful, glamorous, and absolutely stunning three-day luxe coastal wedding on the beautiful beach of Da Nang, Vietnam, from 2-4 February 2024. Filled with vibrant tropical styling, bright neon colours, and sparkly disco balls and cages, Kulvin and Dilip’s gorgeous wedding celebrated their love and cultures in an unforgettable weekend with their family and friends.
How did you first meet each other?
Kulvin: We met for the first time at the Singapore nightclub, Bang Bang (our afterparty was themed after this club, complete with cages and disco balls) after being introduced by mutual friends nine years ago. We became great friends and bonded over our shared love for good food and cocktails. Almost a year later, Dilip asked me out and we went on our first date at the Singapore Night Safari, which was also the theme of our Sangeet event. We decided to give the relationship a shot and we haven’t looked back ever since.
What do you love most about your partner?
Kulvin: I think he has the kindest heart and I love how he treats everyone around him. He somehow manages to see the good in every situation and in everyone. He is incredibly warm and genuine–everyone who meets him just loves him. He’s also incredibly driven and passionate, which inspires me everyday. I love how safe, calm, and happy he makes me feel. Dilip is my rock and what home is to me. I’m so grateful for him everyday and I look forward to what the future has in store for us.
Dilip: What I love most about Kulvin is that she is the most caring and selfless person I know. If she’s in your corner, she will do everything to support you. She’s been my pillar from day one, my strength, my confidante, my best friend, and the love of my life. I don’t think I’d want anything without her.
I fell in love with her genuineness. There were no hidden agendas, no games, nothing. It was a real and pure friendship from the beginning, and I just couldn’t help but fall in love with her even though she was a friend who had no romantic interest in me in the beginning. That’s why I’m the luckiest and so blessed, to be able to be with her and have her love me too. Plus point of course that she is absolutely gorgeous and I fell head over heels for her from the minute I saw her. Something in me just told me she’s the one.
What was the proposal like?
Kulvin: After six years of great memories and navigating our gruelling twenties together, Dilip planned a romantic proposal within a stunning rooftop lotus pond at the Four Seasons Ubud, Bali. We legally married in Singapore at 1-Arden in February 2023 (a year before our Indian wedding) with 100 of our closest friends and family. Finally, after almost eight years together, we finally married traditionally against the beautiful coastal backdrop of Da Nang’s beach.
Where did you decide to hold your destination wedding?
When looking for a destination to celebrate this Sindhi-Punjabi wedding, our priority was finding a unique scenic location beyond the usual Bali and Thailand hotspots, all while ensuring that the comfort, accessibility, facilities, and the quality of food for our 200 guests was up to mark. We were lucky enough to find that in the beautiful coastal city of Da Nang, Vietnam. The weather during the time was also great which was a huge plus for us considering us and our guests would be decked up in traditional Indian attire.
Being a Singaporean couple with the bulk of our guests flying in from across Asia, Da Nang served not only as a convenient location with short flights from cities like Bangkok, Kolkata, Melbourne, Malaysia, Thailand, etc., but it was also a city less-traveled and most guests were visiting the city for the first time.
Tell us how your three-day celebrations unfolded!
The three-day affair saw an intimate Villa Haldi ceremony, a “Safari Night” Sangeet as an ode to the our first date, a “Tropi-Carnival” Mehendi surrounded by the pool and beach, a beautiful Hindu wedding ceremony mixing both Punjabi and Sindhi cultures, a “moonlit” reception, as well as a finale afterparty themed and decorated after Bang Bang, the nightclub where we first hit it off eight years ago! We used SingaporeBrides for inspiration around wedding themes.
Could you tell us more about each ceremony?
The Haldi ceremony is a traditional pre-wedding ritual in Indian weddings, primarily observed in Sikh cultures. It is a joyful and auspicious event where a paste made from turmeric, oil, and water is applied to the couple by their close family and friends. The yellow paste symbolises purity, good luck, and protection from evil spirits.
The Sangeet ceremony is an exuberant pre-wedding celebration where the bride’s and groom’s families come together in a joyous extravaganza of music, dance, and revelry.
Mehendi is traditionally applied on the bride before the wedding for its auspicious and protective properties, symbolising blessings, love, and beauty.
In a Hindu wedding ceremony, the bride and groom exchange vows in a sacred ceremony, surrounded by their families and friends, marking the beginning of their new journey together as a married couple, filled with love, joy, and hope for a beautiful future.
A baraat is a celebratory wedding procession for the groom involving live music and dancing alongside friends and family of the groom. This is where Dilip is coming into the wedding ceremony on a Jeep with his friends and family.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Kuvin: The wedding was one of the best three days of our lives. I loved every bit of it, from dancing till 4am in the morning to walking down the aisle and having Dilip receive me.
It’s rare to get all our favourite people together, and in another country too for a whole weekend. That was the best part for me – being able to celebrate the love that Dilip and I share, while having the best possible time alongside our friends and family.
Dilip: The wedding was a flurry of amazing and beautiful moments throughout. Everything was wonderful and we will never forget this as one of the best weekends of our lives yet. There simply cannot be a “most memorable”. If I had to choose, however, Kulvin walking down the aisle looking mesmerising as ever in her traditional wedding outfit, and for that one second pulling her hands up as if to call me over – I will never forget that feeling of walking up to receive the woman I will so gladly spend the rest of my life with.
