9 Easy-to-Follow Tips To Stay Relaxed on Your Wedding Day
Learn how to keep yourself calm and relaxed on your wedding day these tips.
While the thought of marrying the love of your life has you giggling in uncontrollable excitement, it also comes along with a host of anxieties and worries that comes with throwing the biggest party of your life. Almost every couple experience some form of wedding jitters and while it may be common, wedding jitters may prevent you from enjoying the best day of your life to its fullest.
To help you stay calm and relaxed for your big day, we’ve listed out nine tips to help you stay composed during your big day.
1. Go to bed early the night before the wedding
On the night before the wedding, you should stop doing any more planning. instead, you should start preparing for your big day by staying relaxed and getting enough rest. You can choose to invite your bridesmaids over for a last stay-over with the girls as a single lady, or spend a quiet night with your folks.
You might find it a little challenging to drift off to sleep in your excitement, so try to head to bed early to get sufficient rest for the big day ahead of you. Not only would getting enough sleep do wonders to help with your mood and quell any anxiety or worry on your big day, you’ll also wake up with a brighter and clearer complexion, and keep the dark eye circles at bay. If you find it hard to sleep, you may want to try putting on a calming and soothing playlist to help you drift off to slumberland.
2. Don’t forget to eat
You may not feel like it amidst your excitement and nervousness, but you’ll need some food in your belly to quell those butterflies and get you through the day’s activities. After all, there is nothing like having your favourite food to perk you up.
Opt for something light and substantial, like a bowl of your favourite cereal with milk or a slice of toast with your favourite spread, to fill your stomach if you’re not up to a big and hearty breakfast early in the morning.
3. Start your day right
Getting your time management right on the morning of your wedding is the key to starting your day right and keeping the jitters at bay. Ensure that you have enough time to get ready and have your breakfast before your makeup artist and wedding photographer arrives, so you don’t have to rush through them.
You should also get your bridesmaids’ help in making sure that everything you need for the day is packed and ready, so you can relax as you prep for the day ahead. If you need help calming down, consider playing your favourite playlist of songs or fill the room with your favourite scent to help you loosen up.
4. Pamper yourself
To help you feel relaxed and calm on your wedding day, you shouldn’t feel the need to rush through your morning get-ready routine. Plan your time wisely so you have ample time in the morning to pamper yourself with a long and relaxing bath and breakfast with the people you love before the wedding flurry starts.
5. Keep the visitors in the morning to a bare minimum
While it is understandable that some of your elder relatives may want to come over in the morning to catch a glimpse of the glowing bride, try to seek their understanding that you’d like to keep your visitors to a minimum to avoid feeling overwhelmed by the crowd or noise at home.
Keeping the environment at home calm and intimate will help you to stay relaxed and focused, so invite only those who need to be present in the morning (your bridesmaids, essential vendors, and perhaps your grandparents or the aunt or uncle you’re closest with).
6. Take a break in between the day’s activities
If time permits, take a breather in between the day’s flurry of activities to spend some time with your family or newly-wedded husband. If you have enough time, you can even head out to grab a cup of your favourite bubble tea or coffee. The break and drink will be a welcomed pause from the wedding activities and will do wonders in helping you relax and gear up for the rest of the day.
Alternatively, you can use the spare time for a fun couple or bridal party photoshoot on the way to your wedding venue, or simply chill in the bridal suite with your groom so you can be in the moment.
7. Make sure you factor in contingency time
The key to staying calm and relaxed on your wedding day is to make sure that you’ve factored in contingency time for every activity on your wedding day schedule. If you are going to be in a rush for each segment on your schedule, chances are, you’ll be feeling stressed out and less than happy.
To keep calm, relaxed and happy, ensure that your day is reasonably spaced out. Do leave enough time in the morning for you and your girls to get ready, factor in generous buffers for travelling time to and fro locations, and aim to be ready at least half an hour or more before your solemnisation or dinner reception starts.
Remember, it always pays to be early. You can always use the extra time to rest or sneak in some photos with your groom, bridal party and family.
8. Sneak in a first look in the morning
While it is not common to see couples forgoing the more traditional gate-crash for the more Westernised first-look, it is slowly gaining traction and great for helping couples quell their wedding nerves.
Whether you’ve shopped for your wedding outfits together or are keeping them a surprise from your partner, the intimate session of seeing each other all dressed up in your wedding finery will leave you speechless and oh-so-happy that you’ll forget about how nervous you are feeling.
9. Just enjoy the day!
Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, so don’t get so caught up with the minute details and obsess with making sure everything is perfect that you forget to be a bride and enjoy your day! Leave the worrying and coordination to your bridal party and vendors, and simply be present in the moment and focus on your one and only job that day – being a bride!
There will never be another day like it, and however it turns out, the day will still be perfect because you are marrying the love of your life!
