September 2011

All That Glitters Is Gold

I was flipping through American Vogue’s latest September Issue when a thought struck me: this would be my first “September Issue” with SingaporeBrides. I practically jumped at was really excited about this golden opportunity to work with one of the best people in the industry.

And I was lucky; this has got to be a Golden Year for royal weddings, since two very famous Kates chose 2011 to tie the knot. Coincidently, 2011 is also the Year of the Golden Rabbit, so the Kates chose wisely. In the future, brides-to-be can just refer to our list of Auspicious Dates so you’ll know when to quickly book those coveted wedding venues. I dedicated the May issue to the Duchess of Cambridge, who wore a beautiful, white vintage lace gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. This “September Issue” is largely inspired by the gorgeous sheer dress with gold threads that John Galliano had lovingly created for Kate Moss for her wedding with Jamie Hince.

Although these royalties of the western and fashion world could have had anything they wanted for their weddings, they seemed to have made very deliberate decisions to keep their weddings as simple as they could. It is clear that they are big romantics at heart and just as family-oriented as the rest of us. What can be more timeless and romantic than a glittery gold wedding? The colour gold is associated with the Sun, which is a symbol of happiness, success, attainment, prosperity and health. The shiny colour of the sun’s rays brightens all things, adding a sense of optimism and good cheer.

Whether you use this colour on its own or with others for your wedding, you’ll be sure it is a lavish event, since there is nothing subtle about gold. From your make-up, to the gown you’ll be wearing, to the bling on your finger and the shoes on your feet, you’ll find that gold is probably one of the easiest colour to wear. You’ll be pleased to know that gold can be found in all things edible too. So if you wanna know how to go bold with gold for your wedding, stay tuned!

XOXO,
