WASHING MACHINE-which brand is good?

  • Thread starter Thread starter ugly duckling
  • Start date Start date

2 differences. One is spin speed. The other Is capacity.

Higher spin speed means lesser moisture on the clothes and if you are using dryer then it would be more beneficial.

As for washing. A biggeR cspacity means more space to tumble. So efficient n effective washing.

Curtains. Bedsheets. Towels. Bathrobes. Quilts or comfortor. And also bigger capacity has a higher efficiency usage if water n electricity than s smaller machine.

U also need to wash less frequent too.

I will try to find out the volumetric difference. I think be about 6 to 8 liters of volumetric measure difference.

So yeah. It's worth with a bigger washer.

6 to 8 volume difference per wash? I thought a bigger capacity machine needs more water per wash than a smaller one?

By the way, how can we know the weight (of clothes) we are putting into the machine? Is there a device to measure, or the conventional weighing machine will suffice?

Hi Haido,

I am not too sure if you are going to be using a dryer or not but i just post some difference for you to consider in the future if you are going to be buying a dryer in the future.

Spun at 1000rpm residual moisture is 60%. If u use a dryer it would need 89 minutes in dryer and using approx 3.3kwh of electricity

Spun at 1200rpm residual moisture is 53%. If u use a dryer it would need 81 minutes in dryer and using approx 3.0 kwh of electricity

Spun at 1400rpm residual moisture is 50%. If you use a dryer it would need 78 minutes in the dryer and using approx 2.85kwh of electricity.

A 150 rpm difference below the 1000rpm mark if i could estimate.. it should be with residual moisture of about 65% ? and that would translate to maybe closer to 4kwh of electricity?

I mean if you do intend to get a dryer then this would be a great consideration.

And yes a bigger capacity washer means a bigger drum size. Even different brands have different volume of drum size. Europeans typically are quite similar. But between asian front load and european front loads. the difference is startling.

Example european machine electrolux rated 8kg has 63 litres as compared to bosch 8kg is 65 litres of
volumetric size. But a 8kg LG front loader is but just 57 litres.

Electrolux 7kg washer is 54 litres. So to speak that a 7kg rated electrolux washer is about the same size of 8kg rated LG washer and hence if you compare the prices. it would not be entirely fair to say hey i buy a 8kg asian front loader and its cheaper. but your washing efficiency and effectiveness is lower than that of the european counterparts.

(i will find the values and post for you. cos electrolux website a bit the slow.)

As for the weight. The following is a guide to the weight in calculating the wash load
The following weights are indicative:
bathrobe 1200 g
napkin 100 g
quilt cover 700 g
sheet 500 g
pillow case 200 g
tablecloth 250 g
towelling towel 200 g
tea cloth 100 g
night dress 200 g
ladies’ briefs 100 g
man’s work shirt 600 g
man’s shirt 200 g
man’s pyjamas 500 g
blouse 100 g
men’s underpants 100 g

Hope the above posting helps in your decision

Thanks for the detailed reply, ridz.

I am not getting a dryer but may do so in future so yea the stats will be useful. And I'm sure the weight breakdown will be beneficial for all here.

By the way, are both models going to EOL soon as they are not on display in the Electronux store at IMM

I shouldn't think so though. But most european are concentrating on 7kg washers in the market at this moment for front loads. And as for smaller loads. They may have but very few model. Hence they might not put it on display given the size display area they have. For the 6.5kg. Imm best I think has on display whereas the 10741 its exclusive model to harvey norman. So you might want to pop by harvey norman stores to see the display.
And if I may just be frank.the 10741 is indeed a better buy. Get machines with spin speeds of more than 1000rpm. Only in asian countries people tend to take a lower spin speed. If you go to europe machines spinning under 1000rpm are virtually unheard of. And spending 799 is a worthwhile investment.

I myself own miele machines and I'm willing because of wash quality and durability. Cheers

Just call up Parisilk to ask for quotes for the 2 models.

10741 - $780
85661 - $599

The lady recommends 10751 ($750) over the 10741 as 10751 got more features/programs.

I had a look at both models manual and found this to be somewhat true..

i had attached a screenshot of both models' control panel. I am not sure which are the features/programs that really matters.. is 10751 really better?

1673065.jpg

Yes,

Looking at both machines.

Yes 10751 has
1) more washing feature. It has the silk programme as well as the synthetic easy iron (aka minimum iron or easy care) programme and wool programme and soak.

2)With a seperate temperature knob means each cycle has more temperature range that can be selected. as compared to the fixed temperature range for the respective cycles.

but the 10741 has the timer. which will allow to see how long is the wash and countdown.

For me both washing feature as well as the timer is important. so i leave it to you

Hi everyone

I am looking for a washer-dryer as there isnt space for separate units. I am deciding between samsung WD8804 and LG WD1484....until i saw hitachi BD-105V2.

Is anyone using Hitachi BD-105V2? Please share your comments and reviews.

The load of 10.5 kg wash / 7 kg dry is the highest that i have seen for a washer-dryer. The size is also the smallest that i have seen. With such load/size ratio, i am worried about the stability and reliability.

Furthermore, I cant find a manual online to verify the load capacity.
But i managed to find different models sold in japan and taiwan. SFBD3300 & SFBD2300. Are they newer models as BD-105V2 was already available in 2009?

Thanks in advance

i like the auto program to have a high drying load capacity so that the clothes can be set to wash and dry throughout the night.

for electrolux and samsung, the max load for auto program is only 3.5 kg. Lower than LG's 4 kg load.
bosch's advertised max load is already 3.5 kg. not sure if it is for timed drying or auto drying.

there is also a space constraint. for example, i cant fit samsung wd8122 & lg wd-1210.

Well if space is a real problem. Maybe can opt for top load? Thomson has washer dryer. Not sure if they have a thru programme washing-drying. Will find out and post. But price is an obvious premium for sure

The 8 kg washer is excellent. Though the stains programme is something that you wouldnt normally use. But its good to have nonetheless. THe washing quality can quite match those of miele. only real difference is the quality of materials used. Its a real quiet performer even at max spin speed with full load. U can barely hear it from the hall if its spinning in the kitchen. i especially like the eco-perfect option.

maybe you have some concerns? that you might want to share?

I would opt for the eco logixx condensation dryer for reasons of electricity consumption. Because the drum volume is not much of a difference. we are not talking like 20 litre difference of volume just a few litres.

But the electricity because of the active air technology and also the self cleansing condensor. though the price tag for the ecologixx can be a bit of a deterrence.

But having

tks ridz.

i read on dreamz_musicbox's blog that WAS28444ME is german made.
Any idea if WAS32794ME is also german made?

Im more concern about the durability on the WM.

ridz, what do you mean about "only real difference is the quality of materials used"

does bosche build WM to last for a long long time?

I would want a WM that can last at least 10-15 yr.. my Ariston WM recently has got some spinning problems. It has lasted about 15 years already...

for the dryer, im just curious about the ActiveSteam Technology that 8kg dryer has. Wondering if it is worth it to get that.

yes the WAS32794ME is german made. Its the top end of the range for bosch washer.

Well if you are concerned about durability then you should be looking for miele washing machine. They are tested for durability.

Miele washing machines are tested reliability to last for 20 years.

They test run the machines to run at 60 degrees cotton with full load. Non-stop one cycle after another back to back for 10400hours or 5200 cycles to mimic its usage over a 20 year period

Calculated as 52 week with 5 washes each week and each washing cycle lasting 2 hours. but back to back.

Miele's construction is also very solid. U can check their durability testing online on youtube to find out. Their doors are meant to swing shut and it should be able to withstand the same number of open and shut durability testing before they carry the miele badge.

As for the Active steam. I see very little use for it myself personally. It can be used to refresh clothes so called to de-wrinkle it or to clean up those dry cleaning. but i would use a DIY dry cleaning kit for that purpose.

Plus i use a lot of the dryer so i usually spin at maximum spin speed once more after the final spin to drain more water and also i look for lowest consumption

Miele would be nice. but i think the price tag would be hard to swallow.

Only W 5824 offers 7kg load.
Would anyone has the pricing on this WM?

Ridz, which dryer would you recommend for Miele?

Yup,

I think you missed the promotion combination set for a washer + Condenser dryer 7kg at bundle price of $4388. Try to look around to see if they still have those. Not too sure if they still have. At best or harvey norman or even rina electrical.

Any of their dryer is okay. Though if you are talking about consumption, then the bosch 7k eco-logixx would return a lower consumption rating to achieve 4 ticks.

The heat pump model for miele, im not sure if they are brought into singapore yet. but if not all of their dryers are great.

Hi Ridz and vincent,
Just to share an info , latest offer from miele has already been soft launched by best denki ngee ann city. It is the exact replica of the previous promotion package but retailing at $3880. the washer model is w1914 and the dryer is a condensor t7944c. The full specs can b downloaded from miele http://www.miele.co.uk/washing-machines/w1000/w1914-358/

It will outsell the previous package due to its price, much cheaper, but without the previous free gifts. Hope this helps.

By the way the previous promotion package has already been sold out across the country! this new offer will take over from the previous offer, but there will be no free vacuum cleaner and drying basket as per the promotion of the previous offers, Nevertheless its still a great offer.

Why nobody recommend LG or Samsung? Thinking of getting LG front loader. LG is using one whole motor to spin, making less noise instead of the traditional one which uses belt to rotate the motor.

Hi ridz, I'm currently deciding between Bosch WAE24360SG - $1099 comes with free bosch vacuum cleaner and Electrolux EWF1073 - $1169 free $100 giant voucher or EWF10751 - $999 free $70 choice voucher(should be). Any views on it? Won't be purchasing a dryer and thinks that 7kg would be enough for 2pax usage. Went to courts and this saleslady told us that Bosch's not so good as when the door is closed, its still wide enough to put a finger in thus the water may leaked out, and some of her customers have complained.
I went back and check out my mum's old bosch model, realised the gap is really big but there was no water leakage throughout the 5 yrs she has been using it though.

Ok. Just a quick question. What's ur concern in looking for washer. For me its build quality and reliability then comes washing features. What is urs. And also what's the max budget u can really stretch yeah.

Main concern would be the the higher the rpm would be better, cause the clothes would be drier? And less crease on the clothes as I seldom need to iron my clothings with the current old model Bosch WM, thus saving time. budget hopefully below 1.2k

I mean if you could. Then go for the german made model which is very close to the 24360. Same spin speed. But with more temperature range selection and more programmes and has varioperfect drum which is great and the best is eco-silence drive. Really quiet. Much Quieter than the standard motor.
So i would opt for the was24444me.

But if given between the electrolux and bosch. I'd pick the bosch 24360 because of drum is of much better construction than electrolux's. My personal view

If you are looking at electrolux. Then opt for the 10741. Going for $799 at harvey norman. Their exclusive model. Or the 10751. Go to parisilk they can quote you better price that that. Even bosch also u can try them for a quote.

Ic, but all along I thought that 7kg would be enough for only 2 pax, would 8kg be too big for us? Or does it actually saves more water and electricity in long term even though only part load or so?

That's really hard to prove. But judging on the amount of money that you are going to spend vs the qualit of the product that you are getting then I would say the was24444me

The consumptions for the 1073 is high For water so that I would rule that out. But if you are wanting price then go for electro us 10741 for it's value for money. Then followed by 10751 which has more washing features less the comfort feature ( timer).

Then Bosch is better quality the 24360. But if you call maybe parisilk to check on their pricing for 24444 to compare if you want to stomach the slightly higher price but with much better quality of drum and washing features.

As for consumption because it's Load adjusted so I presume it's comparable to a 7 kg washer. And in case u want to wash the quilt or comforter wor curtain. Y are able to do so because of it's bigger volumetric size of drum to accommodate.

If price is not too worrying for me I would go for 24444. But that represents my opinions for I go for quality of build and wash.

No worries. Btw my parents r using the 28444me and I think its comparable in terms of wash quality with my miele. Build quality a notch down as compared to the miele- they use much better quality material and design.

For the WAS models I can vouch for their machines. Its impressive. Cos of their eco-silence drive and variosoft drum.

Just the motor alone - the eco silence drive is already wau better than their standard motor.

I've had experience with their normal motor. Was so so similar to electrolux and brandt but once u experience eco silence then its in the likes of miele's. Though reliability not yet confirmed. Haha

Variosoft drum is also good though honeycomb represents a better construction.

And standard drum holes - a little bigger than I would like but the overall drum of bosch is better than electrolux. I prefer bosch's full metal drum over the plastic paddles in ectrolux. Touch the plastic part of the electro and touch the plastiv pedals of the WAS models very different.

Just saw from the forum that WAS28444ME will be discontinued. Think will stick to 24444 as its still within my budget furthermore with the foc vacuum cleaner, it surely looks like a gd deal.

That was what I read too. The only difference is that the 28444 has a spin speed of 1400 instead of 1200 and the 28444 has aquastop. That's all is the same.

Hi all

Is top liquid detergent (low suds) safe to use for front load machines? The guy at Harvey Norman recc top or tide, I can't remember! So I bought 2 bottles of top & now am not sure if it will spoil the machine.

Also if I use persil powder, how much powder do I need to use for a 7kg full load?

Thanks!

Heard that if using front loader, cant use certain detergent for it as it will spoil the washing machine. So how do i know wad detergent is suitable for the washing machine?

as long as its indicated "low suds" fine.

No bleaching though.

persil powder - use the measuring cup provided in the box. probably 5/6 of the cup is actually okay. or if its more soiled then full cup .

Hi all, i really like bosch german machines (miele is beyond my budget!) shoping around, I was offered a display piece bosch waS28444me at slightly over 1100, but they are only giving 1 yr warranty instead of 2 ... would it be a gd idea?

Fyi I saw at courts online that this model goes for 1499, but am not sure if there is stk. A few hdb electronics store hv been unable to quote me cos discontinued
sad.gif

Unfortunately there is no right or wrong answers to this question. Where is that piece from?are you able to purchase extended warranty for that?

1) Well if you think a higher spin speed is better and can forgo additional year of coverage then go for it cos of its ridiculous price.the initial warranty is 1 year but its upgraded to 2 of late. Other manufacturers are still giving 1 year except for electrolux if I'm not wrong 2 years also. And its like they are giving a ridiculous 3 month or 6 months. But do check for any exclusions. Some of the display units they do have exclusions sometimes.
2) Or else get the 1200rpm. Cos the difference is only 2 - 200 addition rpm and aquastop. All else is the same
3) You can choose the 1600 rpm which has 400rpm higher and also stain feature and aquastop as well as dosage recommendation.

I'm personally for a new set. In this instance if I can push I will go for the 1600rpm

Well we went for the display piece becos of the attractive price offered - slightly lower than the was24444me. Also, we figured that if aquastop was offered, the build quality should be better... Looking forward to delivery at mth end!

Hi ridz, in the end we went for 24444 as the price offered was abit over $1250, still within our budget and with the foc vacuum cleaner, thinks that it a gd deal. Delivery will only be in a month's time, but am looking forward to it!

Thanks ridz for yr advice
happy.gif
Received the Bosch was28444 already and am very happy with it. Expected Bosch performance but even more silent n stable build than my previous Poland made Bosch. The 1400rpm spin was good for my baby's linens which came out almost dry... cutting time in dryer by half.

I'm no expert, I only had experience w limited brands - LG, samsung, whirlpool which my relations had n my own previous Bosch but I can say no regrets getting another Bosch.

All that being said- any suggestions on anyone buying old machines? I hv to clear my 6 yr old Bosch wfl1200 6.5kg washer.

Elba Washer EWF 1073 A 7kg & Dryer EBD602â€.

Any comments? Mega is offering $950 for both Elba front load washer EWF 1073 A for 7kg and Elba dryer EBD 602 for 6 kg. Any problems with Elba as we never use it.

The sales person said Bosch is using touch screen, so sometimes may be too sensitive, or sometimes it doesnt work, is it true?

Does using a front load machine really need to go for the full cycle of one hr plus? I used to use F&P machine. I only use the quick wash which get the clothes done in about half hr. Perfectly alright... and smells great!

Hi

I need some advice on washer/dryer. I have space constrain and am thinking of getting a slim washer cum dryer.

I have a fam of 2 adults and 3 children (5-9yo, school
uniforms, daily clothes, pajamas). Pls give me some advice which machine is reliable, so far i only heard of Thomson 6/3kg and Brandt 8/4kg.

My expectations of the machine/s:
1) reliable and durable
2) can wash clothes clean (I prefer 'front load' technology)
3) must have 'delicate/handwash' function coz I simply hate to handwash. I need a machine I can wash any types of clothings.

I used to use Bosch. I love it, it is 8 yo still working with 1 time repair on it's 4-5th year.

If no top load ( w front load technology) is good enough I can sacrifice other spaces for normal sized (60cm width) washer/dryer, but very reluctant to do so. Thanks.
