hi

requirements are
- washing clothes for 2 person, with occasional washing of qulit (king size), curtains, sofa seats cover, bed sheets.
- save water consumption
- save electricity consumption
- washer cum dryer
- max budget $1,200

how do i calculate the water and electricity consumption?

thanks in advance

Anyone here using Maytag washer?

Went to Best Denki and this guy was really selling it hard, it looks good and sounds good. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

oh terrible don't use. We are currently using Maytag coz our USA home was using Maytag. My mom bought from Best Denki too. We used it for less than 3yr then rubber spoil and leak. Previously we were using Elba (almost 7yr), Bosch (5yr).

Only good thing about Maytag that my mom use was that it's front load so on top can put things and comes with a holder for you to stack a dryer on top. But personally i hate this stupid Maytag...wash damn slow and doesn't tell you how long it takes to wash. I know that 1 standard cycle will take 2.5hr to wash so coz if i start washing at 10pm (watch news) then it'll only finish at 12.30!

And noise it's very noisy. Imagine my washing machine is on the ground floor, my room on the 2nd floor also can hear.

I think Bosch or Elba was better. anyway they are all now made in China only.

Hi Eileen

Thanks for sharing, may I know which Maytag model your mum has?

Noisy WM will bother me a lot too..can hear from 2nd floor is bad.

This best denki guy very persuasive, he's pushing MFW108EDWT, saying it's new model, made in Italy A+ energy efficiency class..blah blah

Any one has feed back on Ariston Washer?

My Ariston AL68X lasted me about 7 yrs, now the repairs will cost about $500+, so I want to look for a new WM.

budget for new washer. requirements? capacity.

Can go for Bosch, electrolux or brandt. im more inclined to bosch and followed by electrolux. though both are equally great.

Hi ridz

Thanks for recommendation.

Need to stack my Ariston dryer on top the washer. I was hoping not to pay more than $1200 for washer, but checking around and looking in the stores, looks like would have to increase budget up to $1500 now.

3 persons, 3 separate loads, 1 to 2 times a week. King size quilt cover, fitted sheet, mattress protector are the biggest items.

Bosch appears to be the popular choice, is there a great difference between the Thailand and Germany make? Which is which?

thailand and germany made. its quite a bit of difference because they dont have similar spec but made in different country. so the washing programmes etc are not entirely similar.

But the thai made ones are also fine. its been around for a while.

unless u decide to go crazy and splurge on miele.

not sure if they have the classic range limited edition ones. not the millenium but the classic premier washer. with honeycomb. last i saw was about 2.1k. made in germany with 7kg and honeycomb drum. its like an updated drum version with bigger capacity of the w562

Hi ridz

I was at Best Denki Vivo today. Miele is out of budget for us, washer alone is 3K+, I saw the promo $4388 for washer and dryer set. It feels very well made, tough and sturdy, washer is 100kg I think.

I looked at the Bosch 8kg Germany made, the stainless steel surface, pattern is like many many tear drop shapes and with very small holes around the shape, I touched and stroke my fingers over it.....it felt rough...that was weird. It's like the holes were punched from outside in and like a grater, though not sharp enough to cut my fingers. I'd think clothes washing would have friction and cause damage to clothes.

The Thailand made Bosch drum pattern was like any other WM, the usual many round holes, the drums were all smooth. The finish is a little less refine than the Germany make.

There were no Electrolux on display, the sales lady kept pushing Brandt WFK 1018A.

Any thoughts?

I got my bosh washer the German made, I like it very much, my hubby clothes can now be washed clean. I heard Brandt is very noisy, while electrolux damaged quickly. Not sure about other brands.

Hi musicbox

Thanks for sharing.

Is your Bosch drum inside the teardrop shape surface or regular round hole surface? How long have you had your WM?

Hi st 2,
Mine shd be the teardrop type with 2 holes at the side, when u touch can feel rough but not really rough till can damage ur clothes.

Am looking for a washer too...... space constraint.... Courts was pushing sales of their new brand " CANDY ".....40 x 60...for a 7-8 kg. really slim, front load somemore. but i cant find any reviews on it. too new i think......

Thanks Ridz. Think I wouldnt want to buy that too. I'll discuss with my ID whether we can put the "normal sq sized" washer somewhere else in the kitchen. From the reviews here and from renotalk, seems like BOSCH is really a much better choice. I'll check out Thomson too.
Tks!

Its not only about popularity. But if you buy non standard measurement items. When it comes to replacement in the future. You will have problems. Cut out the space for standard washer size. At least when problem occurs and needs replacement you can have a wide range of replacement cos most would accomodate a 60 x 60.

hi, looking for front load washer. i'm guessing about 7 or 8kg? budget about $1k, if can cheaper, even better but i guess we are also willing to stretch to $1.2k.

mainly for 2 of us only, biggest items will be king sized quilt cover, bedsheets and mattress protector. you think all that can fit into 8kg washer? will prob be looking to do laundry 1 to 2x a week... will need delicate wash function for my clothes and more heavy duty function for hubs clothes!

the sales guy at best taka recc the following:

-f&p WH70F60W3 ($899! supposedly the most value for money)
- electrolux EWF1073 ($1199)
- bosch wae24360sg ($1199)

the f&p seems most value for money... any comments? or any other models around this price range i should be looking at?

cant remember if they all have delayed start function but that will be a plus. and shorter washing cycle + water & electrical conservation will be good too

thank!!

go to harvey norman. they have the harvey norman exclusive model. im not sure which one but they advertise it.

Electrolux 7kg washer with 1000rpm. going for 799. can consider. for the price.

-f&p WH70F60W3 - i would leave this out from the comparison.

- electrolux EWF1073 this is one of the slightly updated older model from electrolux. it has the night cycle where they hold the spin and agitation is slightly modified.

Consumption slightly higher than the rest.

- bosch wae24360sg
This is the new eco range from bosch. higher spin speed and higher in price too.

and of course the ewf 10741 - in fact this would be more value for money than the f&p.

this is the eco range from electrolux. Quite close in terms of consumption of water and electricity.

Washing features are all pretty much similar except that bosch has the 15 min quick wash. for really really lightly soiled. or very very little clothes. i fact its more for refreshing. as opposed to cleansing.

Not sure if they updated the 1073 but from what i know the 1073 has blanket wash function as well as silk.

washing features wise. 1073 has the most. then both same for 10741 and 24360

Let's just say that I'm still not convinced of the quality of their front load. New to them. Top load. I feel they are very stable. Look at the construction. And washing technology they offer and compare with electrolux, brandt, bosch.
Oh yeah if u get that 10741. At 799 you can go to millenia walk they have matching dryer I think its the 77550. 7kg auto sensing air vented dryer going at 699. Combination is like about 1.5 for a washer n dryer? That's hard to miss but better hurry for both.

ooooo been ages since i last log in... getting back to topic....

agree with what ridz have mention. Ewf 10741 looks like the best bet for the 3 choice you have made. The bosch model in my own personal opinion would be the last choice i would be getting.... Highest consumption of water at a minimum of 60 over litres of water and a long washing time to add to that.

Oops hope i have not hurt any egos once again.

oops i missed the promo and didnt get it.. now the promo is over and price is $10XX

hopefully a promo will come out soon! i read it went for 699 at the expo sale before

hi ridz, i have been reading threads about washing machine / dryers & know u are a miele fan. for a family of 3 (including a baby), will the 6 kg be sufficient? also, do u know when's the best time to buy the appliances (ie. when are the sale periods) or which shop will give the best discounts for miele? thanks!

As for whether the capacity is enough. 6kg shouldn't be an issue. Its more of the question of how big is your single piece item e.g. blanket. Other clothes r smaller n u can seperate into bathes. But single big piece. Not possible so have to evaluate based on your single biggest piece. Typically a 6 to 7kg washer should meet your needs.

As for miele if u r looking for outright discount. Nope that they don't have. They protect their price really well.

But if u r looking for washing packages and deals. Yes. Its always ongoing. Not sure if they still have the washer and dryer package I think at $4388. Those kinda offer u can find. Don't think there's like a period of good deals. Its more of when the packaged deals will last.

Hope that answers your questions.

thanx! yes, that does help. another question abt miele washers, based on ur experience, how does it fare in terms of energy / water consumption?

do u know how much the washer alone is? cos we will have adequate sunlight & wind at our new place, so maybe will just go with washer.

do u happen to have other miele goods also? i am considering the oven also. any feedback on that?

and do u haf any opinions on other electrical goods like fridge? trying to see if there's a thread on fridges in tis forum but cant find a very comprehensive one. alot on washing machines! haha.

thanx again for ur help!

Im so terribly sorry i missed your post.

In terms of energy and water consumption. They have one of the most outstanding ones. With very highly customised washing needs.

Just the washer alone. Depends on model. If you buy the packaged model just that washer would be about 2k+. But if you buy their standard washer alone could easily be 3k+ and above. up to 6k.

Oven wise i would love miele of course but their starting price is around 4k. hence im not willing to go to that extreme because of the usage. Its unlike washer where i use it everyday x 3 cycles for x 365 days. yeah its more pertinent i get a solidly built one

I will settle for De dietrich or bosch if must go down. cos the prices are easier to stomach. although de dietrich price are pretty steep. Starting from 3k onward. but also offers almost equal quality.

For fridges, what kinda would information do you require?

If you can stomach a singe top bottom fridge but priced around 4k+ then go for liebherr.

Which washer did you get?

Powder and liquid. Not much. I use Dixan. Though a little pricey but washes well. There is Persil and also Spin. As long as low suds. You are fine.

No bleach necessary

thanks! will try the brands you recc. i got the 10741

do you think can fit in king sized bedsheet + mattress protector + quilt cover in one wash? now i have to wash in 2 loads. forgot to ask just now!

Still best to split to 2 loads. Maybe the bedsheet on its own or throw in a few tennis balls to help balance load. While the rest can go to another load?

More for washing effectiveness.

Hi Ridz,

I need some advice. I've a Thomson machine - it's a washer cum dryer - Model TX 898. After using for almost 3 years; I think I've had enough of its noise! I think my neighbors in the same block are using the same model - it's so noisy that literally, at any time of the day - you know that your neighbor is doing his/her laundry! I could even hear it from my balcony when my washing machine is running! Furthermore, I'd only used the dryer function less than 3 times because when I put in half the wet clothing to dry - the clothes came out smelling like burnt stuffs so I gave up and simply do it the conventional way. My questions > is there any other model which is similar in size and quieter in the market!? I wish Miele would have a similar size though! The size of the washer is a major issue as the space to stall the washing machine is limited to such confined space - which was built by the developer!
sad.gif
Currently, I'm using the detergent, Persil but the clothes don't smell as good as other detergent like TOP which my galfriends have recommended although it's not low sud and I didn't try to use it just in case this stupid machine cannot take it! I'd purchased Tide once - it smells good but pretty expensive here as compared when I used to purchase it in the U.S. Any advice - Thanks!

Yup,

The noise level for thomson machines, is much to be desired. But its clean and reliable. for sure.

As for similar size or quieter in the market. NO

Unless you are willing to go to one of those white domestic product and ask them to import the top loader machines of Miele from germany. Miele do manufacture top loader machines. Though how quiet is it. I cannot guarantee you.

As for the clothes not smelling too good. Maybe you wish to change to Dixan. It smells a tad better than persil. And the liquid Dixan smells very good but price is ex.

Or you might want to supplement with fabric softener - try vernel. Just a 3/4 cup dilute with equal parts of water.

Both are about the same in terms of washing technology and features. Just that the 10741 has a bigger washing capacity of 7 while the other is only 6.5. Quite a bit of difference in drum size seriously. And the other difference of course being the spin speed. 10741 has spin speed of 1000rpm. Which is better.

Opt for the 10741. Its a better deal.

Any particular feature that you are concerned with?

The only "feature" i am concern with is the price. haha.. The financial controller of the house said $799 is too much to pay for a washer..

Ok, what difference does the extra 50rpm have in a washing cycle?

Also, i understand the max capacity stated is more for the largest single piece of clothing to be washed. My bed is queen-sized.. Other than the bedsheet and the quilt, is there other potential large piece of clothing to take note?
