The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

Hi Kriskris,

For my case, My co-ordinator gets the Printer to contact me. The Guy is Vincent. Banyard is the printer, he drop me a mail with all the design choose by the hotel and other design they have. I choose the design and told him my special requirements. I printed my wedding photos on the card with extra cost.

You can get Vincent to meet you up near to your area for discussion and collection. Yes, i collect my own card but get they to come to near where i live. The only time i disturb my Co-ordinator is asking for more free cards.

For the Florist part, i told my Co-ordinator i do not intend to top up, Jaya sit through with me during the whole selection and given me advice.

If you intend to top up for floral, it is better to meet up with the florist yourself as end of the day , they be the one doing the setup.
However, i believe the co-ordinator should arrange them to contact you and not you contact them. By doing top up , you are actually the florist client. They should contact you and arrange for a meet up either at the hotel or somewhere at your convient.

Cards and Floral is better to have direct communcation with them without going through third party to ensure they can provide you with what you need. If there is extra cost issue, then i believe the co-ordinator should be the one whom can help to check what can be included.

Thanks Ivan! That's really helpful because I was considering the white-gold theme

Hopefully they have enough table cloths for 48 tables.

I actually had to cut my list from 600 to 480 so hopefully it wouldn't be too squishy

Dear Kris,

I had forward it to you already.

Dear Jassy,

I really like the crumble type table cloth for my VIP table, the look is really great. Too bad they have only one piece of it hence i can only have it for one VIP table.

dear Joy,

For me, the desposit was pay when siging of the agreement. They took 2 weeks to prepare the agreement (mine is sign during F1 period). As long as you have a E-mail to them on the confirmation of the booking date and they had reply.

When siging of the agreement, make sure whatever was agree to be given is joted down in the agreement.Check the price in the agreement is the same when you enquire. Most important , read the terms and conditions esp the liablies and the cans and cant's. I believe there is a clause that stated if the price of a certain item in the menu is during that the actual day period had a big increase, there will be a need to top up or change to another item.

Congrats

Hi Joy, I paid the deposit as soon as I wanted to confirm so I can "chope" the date because I only have a short time frame that my sister can fly back for my wedding.

i just went for my food tasting and i feel that the food in fullerton is not fantastic. if you are concern about the taste of the food, you migh wan to reconsider. However, everything else like the decor, ambience, rooms, services and balllroom are fantastic....

Hiya, I'm considering Fullerton and am currently spoilt between the ballroom and the straits room. The main problem with the straits room is the seating capacity. But it's really lovely! Should I go for the beautiful room, or choose something that can seat more guests...

Can anyone who has held their wedding at either rooms share their experience?

noir,

I'm tentatively booked with Fullerton for Straits Room. Definitely not doing ballroom as it's too big and I want a small wedding.

Yes the Straits Room is gor-orgeous! :D I'm not sure how it'll look at night but in the day it's special, cos natural light actually filters in through windows - rather unique, no? for a ballroom.

I've attended functions at the ballroom at the basement level before. it's huge, grand looking, but - it's just another ballroom. IMO it's important to have a gorgeous venue for the dinner/lunch cos that's when the guests are spending the most time during the wedding, so to have a space that's very generic, just doesn't cut it for me. in that ballroom, I would feel I could be anywhere else - from a two star hotel ballroom to the Fullerton one.

so while I'd love to hold my dinner outdoors and make it a magical one, the weather in Singapore is just too warm and humid to be comfortable for the guests, so the next best option is to choose one that is really really gorgeous and somewhere special.. and I think Straits Room can deliver that!

Am having my wedding lunch in the Straits ROom in 2 weeks time..

DL, i agree with you..The Straits Room is simply gorgeous...the only venue we love at first sight and i believe its 1 of its kind..

Noir, i had the same dilemma as you on the seating capacity but eventually its our wedding, as long as we love the venue, everything else dun matter..i prefer intimate weddings rather than elaborate ones..i trim my guest list a lot but as we are inviting just close frens and relatives, its still do-able..by right we should be looking at 15-17 tables range.. good luck in your hotel hunting!!

kriskris: since you're online (hopefully I can still catch you when you're still online!), just want to ask where you will be holding your solemnisation? at the 'rooftop garden' of fullerton (which is not a real rooftop garden!)?

I'm still undecided between Raffles and Fullerton, cos I'm going to do solemnisation on same day. Raffles has The Lawn, a lovely green lawn area with a gazebo, very private and intimate and - quiet. gorgeous for solemnisation, and then later some canapes and champagne. Fullerton lacks that.. but, Raffles' ballrooms are just nowhere close to Fullerton's Straits Room. The former are smaller than Straits Room, and lower in ceiling height.. But, it's still Raffles, you know?

ARGHH can't make up my mind!!

My original layout was 20-22 tables range... Parents not very happy at the prospect of having to cut down on their guest list. did you have that problem? how did you convince your parents?

DL, although after recce-ing both Fullerton and raffles, my fiance and I decided Fullerton is better, I'll still say this: Lovely gazebo is the way to go! If you're a photo kind of person, think of the pictures you will get to keep of your wedding at the gazebo! I also find the fake rooftop garden @ fullerton abit ... -_-" I haven't seen raffles' rooms but i heard some have chandeliers also quite nice?

btw hows the pricing for raffles? The last time I checked was quite cut throat.

noir,

yes I agree the Gazebo and Lawn at Raffles Hotel make a lovely location. but I really don't like Raffles' ballrooms (at least, the smaller ones cos I will only have 90 guests). it looks tired. the chandeliers are pretty, but look.. dusty and old. and it just feels too small - it IS too small. it can fit 80 guests no problem, but it's a tight squeeze, and with long table seating, it's not half as spacious as Straits Room.

and of course Straits Room has got much higher ceiling, 'windows'.. paint looks fresher, etc.

on the contrary, it isn't more expensive at Raffles. for the minimum 80 guests wedding dinner package, it's $136 (or is it $138) ++ per guest, same as Fullerton Straits Room (also minimum 80 guests). it's of course cheaper when you have a minimum of 150 (or is it 200?) guests. same for Fullerton - the more guests you have, the cheaper it is per person. however, at Raffles Hotel, it cost more to rent the Lawn to do your solemnisation. Whereas at Fullerton, doing it at the 'rooftop garden' is free.

that said, Raffles' wedding dinner package for minimum 80 guests is more generous than Fullerton - two nights stay at their suite instead of one at Fullerton, 30 liter Tiger beer thrown in (Fullerton doesn't have this perk), etcetc.

so have you decided where you are going to hold your dinner/lunch? solemnisation?

there was a bride here who split her wedding dinner into two nights just so she can hold it at the Straits Room - she loves it that much, heh. a good idea if you really don't want to compromise on the venue, but you have got too many people. I think that's a swell idea! good thing for me is that I really put my foot down that the max is about 80 to 90. so my mum has no choice but to really cut her guest list.

hello DL & noir, we have visited Raffles Hotel too and to be honest, i dun like the ballrooms at all...somehow they seems too dark, old fashioned and too old style colonial..as for the lawn, i am concerned abt the weather and there is no privacy as surrounding ppl will be able to see whats gng on..we prefer a brighter and more chic area for lunch with natural daylight...Straits Room fits both criteria..my soleminisation is at Rooftop Garden..i quite like it cos its private and its a covered rooftop garden which ensures the comfort of my guests and shield from the unpredicatable weather..

after working out the guest list, i had wanted to split into lunch and dinner but need to do 2 times work and i guess mine is a real popular date(10/10/10) hence there should be no availability when i decide to split..

hope the florist decor will be nice too...

kriskris: YES! I totally agree with you and your husband on Raffles hotel's ballrooms. Exactly my sentiments. And I think the biggest problem is also that their ballrooms are really too small, compared to the Straits Room. Problem is, many angmohs like Raffles Hotel cos it has that old world colonial charm, whereas Fullerton hotel seems like a 'finance-type' of hotel (which is quite true).

wah, kriskris you got Straits Room for 10/10/10?? lucky you :D I'm sure you can even make a profit letting it go for double the price ha ha!

DL, no have not decided yet.. I did thought of separating it into lunch and dinner but the cost would run quite high, and my fiance is quite unwilling...

kriskris, say, did you get anything extra from fullerton which was not in the initial package? What were the perks they gave you?

kriskris

hi noir, fullerton is pretty strict on perks so its pretty the standard package..mayb the extra 10% carpark coupons or invitation cards...
strictly no waiver of corkage fees...

kris: wow, they're SO strict?

oh dear. that's a little worrying cos I have several big drinkers in my guest list. one bottle of wine/table of 10 is not going to be enough.. more like at least 2, if not 3!!

Hi

My name is Jarls from Singapore and I am an undergraduate at a Hospitality Management school in Switzerland. For my undergraduate dissertation, I am looking at the negotiation behaviour of prospective wedding couples looking to hold their wedding banquet at 5-star hotels in Singapore.

Your response is kindly appreciated and will aid in the completion of my paper.

This survey will take up 15-20 minutes of your time.

they can afford to be strict because they know people will still sign up for the ballroom/ straits room because it's beautiful

and looks like they don't hold wedding shows too, no?

pinknoir

Miraclez, I asked about wedding show, they said business has been good, so no point to hold wedding shows for the rest of the year...

Ya, Kris is right, they are very anal on the perks. Business too good... I'm abit worried about the alcohol part as well...

DL, have you confirmed your location?

fairly speaking, they are indeed strict on perks but that's pretty standard for a 5-star hotel in SG..i think Shangri-La and Four Seasons does not allow corkage waiver too..

u can try negotiating corkage waiver for a few bottles but not all..i am taking the wine from the hotel tho i have a few bottles waiver..i do have big drinkers too, 2 bottles per table is reasonable enuff considering not all tables are big drinkers...

kriskris, saw your comment about the rooftop garden being covered. We went to check out rooftop garden two weeks ago just before the F1 and saw the marquee as well over the rooftop, it was really nice. But we were told by Fullerton that the marquee is only there during F1 period and rooftop is usually not covered. We have asked about the costs of putting up a marquee and was told it would be around SGD25,000! It is way too expensive for us.... thought i would let you know in case you want to double check with Fullerton if you decide to book the rooftop garden. it could be that your package may cover this cost (but ours didn't given that we don't have that many tables).. : )

I really liked the view on the rooftop garden but had concern on the amount of time it would take to get everyone up onto the roof and also the logistics, like only a few ppl can be in the hydro lift at one time and each guest will have to climb up the stairs one by one... but the view is sooo just amazing... so can't decide! :p

jo: the rooftop garden that most people talk about with reference to Fullerton is not the one above the Lighthouse (Restaurant). It's the one on the 4th or 5th floor, an indoor rooftop garden. It's not even a garden - more a linkway that's within the hotel.

The one you're referring to is the rooftop terrace above the Lighthouse, which is part of the Lighthouse restaurant and cost more to rent it to hold any solemnisation there. I want to do it there but it's not rainproof at all, so if it rains, I won't be able to do anything about it and that's literally money down the drain!
sad.gif

and yes, the spiral staircase makes it difficult for people to get there (especially older folks), and the small lift is also problematic.

sdcl

Member
jo: heh no problem. just want to help clarify, just in case. I really like the rooftop terrace, just that it doesn't make sense to also get a marquee set up, plus renting cost. no wedding package of fullerton will include that. it is an extra cost.

are you having your dinner at the straits room or ballroom? i really love the straits room. soooo gorgeous!

NOOOOO!! hhaha. I still have tentative, priority booking for my date. so, if at any time some couple or organisation approaches Fullerton for my date, they will call me immediately and I will have to go down and put down the deposit. but so far, nobody else has. I'm decided with Fullerton, just ironing small things out like solemnisation venue etc.
