Shangri-la Hotel

you're welcome!

another thing that is great about Shang is, they can get ribbons tied for your invites!!

my friends who were using marriott, which uses the same invites printer, had to tie their many many ribbons themselves!! *faints*

I have told myself that there is NO WAY I'm tying all those hundreds of ribbons myself, or making my friends and family help me tie ad nauseum.

Hi,

I'm also considering of having mine at Shang Tower ballroom.

What are the things that we can negotiate or exchange for?

Do they provide free waiver of cockage charge?

Thank You!

Hi Twinkle, do we have to provide the ribbons or will the ribbons be both provided and tied?

Hi yelody! I'm using Tower Ballroom. I exchanged the one bottle of house pour per guaranteed table for waiver of corkage charge.... I didn't negotiate to exchange anything else though.

That's such a relief to know, twinkle!

I saw the range of cards ... but feel that the cards arent as nice as those offered by other hotels...like fullerton and marriot.. Shang's cards are largely squarish..... I don't know if they plan to bring in new cards.

When's your AD, twinkle? Mine's Sept 07.

Yah i also thought marriott's cards are nicer. Haven't seen the fullerton ones, which are by another invites printer though.

mine is in Mar 07.

Fullerton has only 4 designs (when I checked last Dec)... but I wasn't aware they have their own printer... cos I actually used my own printer for my engagement party... hmm.. and I didn't negotiate for anything in exchange.. perhaps it's a new addition to their packages...hmm...

I think they use T-Dragon. but i think the printing of the invites are chargeable. think for Marriot they also charge for printing. the package only includes the cards (the harder outer layer).

my friend who got married at fullerton recently also got her own printer i think. her cards looked like they cost $5 each!

Oh! YES YES! They use T-Dragon.. but unlike Shang, Fullerton brides would need to visit T-Dragon to discuss with them the printing. I understand for Shang, we don't need to visit Lil'Art. We just deal with our wedding coordinators.

I hope Shang brings in more cards though. I don't really like the colour of the envelopes (off=white/beige) and the shape of most cards (squarish).. not to mention the design.

apparently the hotel is the one that decides on the design of the wedding cards, which is why although some hotels use the same printers, the designs vary from hotel to hotel. they also print the name of the hotel on the back of the cards.

think it's also because each hotel has different budget allocation to the cards.

I'm personally fine with the square shape of the wedding cards. quite classy i thot. but looking at the range that shang offers it could be a bit boring.

what colour envelopes were you thinking of?

recently i was discussing with some friends that black cards would be quite interesting! but i guess parents would not like them.

I find Shang's beige envelopes a bit "dirty". Fullerton's envelopes are pinkish beige.. not the yellowish beige... dun know if I'm picky.

I'm okay with square cards generally but Shang's square cards are rather small, don't you think? And I agree that the range is rather boring even though it's a very huge range..

I won't like black cards cos it makes the design of the card harder to stand out. I think I would like silver... hehe.

I'm getting my wines from my husband's aunt who is a wholesaler. I don't know what the name of their shop is though... I'm not sure what the cost is also... cos my husband is settling it with his aunt directly.

I think Four Seasons is very lovely.. with the arch shaped windows...

Perhaps you shouold choose according to your capacity? My understanding is Four Seasons can only accomodate a max of 32 tables including reserve. Shang's smaller ballroom (Tower) has a minimum of 30 tables + 2 reserve tables for weekdays, and a min of 35 tables + 2 reserve tables for weekends.

Oh.. just to add - usually 1 table per table is sufficient if your guests don't really drink and if there are many kids. But from past experience, my guests are likely to consume 2 bottles per table.. so we had to get the waiver of corkage and give up the 1 bottle per guaranteed table perk which comes in Shang's standard package.

I'm going ala-carte style! Will be re-using my engagement and solemnization photographers and make up artist. Not planning to develop photo album though.. just going to show photoshoot photos in slideshow fashion. Got my gowns and most of husband's attire settled already. Just need to buy another suit for husband but will probably do that nearer the wedding - cos not sure if he will put on much weight!
happy.gif

wow - then it's good that you started planning early... cos ala carte takes slightly more coordination.

where are your gowns from? It's very early to get all that settled... well done!

Actually the planning for AD wasn't as mind boggling for me cos I had the benefit of planning the engagement and solemnization. Actually the engagemnet was planned by my mom and me. SOlemnization was planned primarily by my husband, with inputs from me... grin. So we were actually sourcing out AD stuff even in the very early stages.

Bought my gowns from HK and Shenzhen. Went in May with my mom...

hotel-wise, think all that's left for me is to decide on the florist/backdrop... probably use the crystal trees from Dolly. Need to get off my butt to start visiting shang's florists. probably in January, since Dec is almost over!

Need to decide on a banquet coordinator... now which friend to arrow?
happy.gif

Jan sounds a good time to start visiting the florists since your AD is in March... I plan to start visiting them in May or June... I'm a bit concerned about the relatively small budget Shang appears to have allocated to the decorations... but just have to work within what they are able to give us. I doubt I will upgrade.. cos per table is at least $80/upgrade. Multiply that by at least 35 tables!! Phew.. I rather spend that money on giving every guest a parking pass... would make them happier...

HIHi!!! Anyone having their wedding dinner at the Pavilion?
I am. I love that place so much. But it's killing me cause it's expensive and
I have not negotiated on ther terms they are offering -
am rather clueless how to do so. Thought i get help here

Any pointers to share?

What are the areas which shangrila would be willing to bend on?

My per table price is not inclusive of wine.
Can i ask from waiver of cockeige for all tables?
Up till how much can I bring down the price per bottle?

Anymore stuff to negotiate for?
Pls impart. hehe

Thanks so much!

Hi Red Riding Hood, I'm having my wedding dinner at Tower Ballroom, but think the principles of negotiation is generally the same.

If you choose a more expensive menu, Shang is likely to be more willing to provide more perks FOC.

We can't ask for a cut in price of wines, or waiver of corkage for all tables. Instead, we would need to exchange some stuff in the standard package for these. In my case, I gave up one bottle of FOC wine per guaranteed table for total waiver of corkage.

Hope this helps. I believe other Shang BTBs have valuable input!!

I think shang is quite 'standard' on their package, so not much room for negotiation. maybe ensure that you get a dayroom for your bridesmaids/helpers and try to get an extra night's stay for yourself.

the other standard thing as cactus mentioned is that you can give up the free bottle of wine per table for overall waiver of corkage.

i think for dinner at the pavilion there might be less room to negotiate. the principle is, the more tables you have, the more nego power. I think I'll prob have at least 45 tables, but even then i only get one barrel of beer... so not much room there... all the best!

cactus,
yah i don't think I'll upgrade since it's just for the night... and most guests would pay more attention to the food than to the decor. oh well! let's hope the gradeur of the room and the chandeliers make up for the flowers and such!

nope. i only got one barrel. they said even if you have 70 tables and use the island ballroom they can only give you one barrel of beer.
sad.gif

Yeah... that is within the standard package.. the 1 barrel of beer. I thought it would be possible to get an additional barrel if I could make up 45 tables. At the moment, still unclear the number of tables I would have.

thanks cactus and twinkle.
you mentioned that you gave up one bottle of FOC wine per guaranteed table for total waiver of corkage.
But for me, my package does not include FOC wine per table.
Come to think abt it, other hotels offers a free bottle of wine except for my package with shang, at least for fullerton and raffles, they do. I know my wedding is not going to be big but throw me a bone here man.
My husband to be dead against garden wedding so we gave up idea of holding it at the lawn at Raffles.

I will speak with them abt this.

Hi Red Riding Hood, it could be that your package is for Pavillion. I'm having my dinner at Tower ballroom. My understanding is hotels usually can give more perks if there are more tables, or if the menu chosen is more expensive. Perhaps Pavillion and Tower have different packages? Or perhaps you have something extra which I don't have?

yup.
I was also given a free day use room for helpers but no extra night. Actually, we didn't negotiate this. My parents and ILs were with us when we signed the contract. My mom just asked the wedding coordinator and she agreed to give us the free day use room. So I dun think it can be said that 1 wine per table exchange for waiver of corkage + day use room.

i chose design 7. with the olive ribbon. love the olive ribbon. hee. i am an easily satisfied person.

hey, heard that there might be new wedding favours coming in. anyone can confirm? when i went to collect my invites they were still the older collection.

Hi pinkiez, no lah!! I've not given any thought to invites yet lah. But curious to see what twinkle has chosen mah. Kay poh a bit.

I'll prob do my invites in June or so!!

Pinkiez, you confirmed Shang already? You are doing your dinner on 30 Sept 07 right? Your customary tea on 29 Sept 07?

yup i confirmed already. i'm doing both on the 29 sep 07. Plus solemnization @ the waterfall terrace on the same day.

suddenly I realized there's so much to do but we haven't done much (except maybe pay pay pay).

twinkle, are the invites free? 75% of confirmed attendance or something, am i right?

Oh! I thuoght you were a 29 & 30 Sept bride. Must have remembered wrongly.

I think the real activity for us will start in May... I've not paid anything so far except for deposit. Then from May onwards got to pay 10% every month, I think.

Yup the invites are free! unlike some other hotels where you have to pay for the printing of inserts. They give you 70% of confirmed attendance. which should be enough, cos for relatives, and average of 4 per family only need one card. =)

Hi All

I have yet to see the flowers decor for the ballroom. I heard it not sufficient. Did any of you added more with additional cost?

Hi Esther, I saw two upgraded set ups. Heard the couples paid $80 and $120 more per table. Dun know how much more they paid for the aisle flower stands. I think Shangrila's budget for flowers is not as generous as other places.
