Hi
Just had my wedding at the Shang 2 weeks ago. It was indeed an memorable experience. The service was excellent.. and guests are still full of praise of that night.

The afternoon reception at the Garden Terrace is still the talk among our guests. No words can describe the whole experience.

The whole preparation and discussion with the Shang team was a breeze.. very knowledgeable and professional!!

Hi Touraco
I've sent you the links to the photos at both the waterfall and garden terrace. The waterfall terrace will be beautiful for a small reception too.. it's cosier than the garden terrace.

Hi Touraco
Thank you for the compliments. Heard from my planner that the place can accommodate max of 10 tables. Saw the setup for sit-down dinner at the waterfall.. very cosy. If used with candle theme.. will be so beautiful!!!

Let me know if you need any other info or help.

Hi Touraco
Sorry.. 10 tables max is for the waterfall. For the Garden Terrace, I had 1o tables of 10, and it's very comfortable to move around. Can perhaps take a max of another 2-3 tables more at the Garden.

hi gals
I'm considering shang too.is anyone considering jul,aug 2004? coz my date coincides with their tower ballroom renovation, so I'll be using a partitioned part of the island ballroom. Just a little worried how a partitioned room will look & feel like.

also,as their pricing is quite pricey, I wondering what may be some of the things I can negotiate for them to throw in so that can help to cut all those extra costings.

pls share any thots, thks

hi cindy
yah.. this thread is very quiet.wonder why..
i'm looking at jul/aug. when is yours?
actually I'm toying between shang & raffles & goodwood park.
can u share on your deal with shang - ie which package u took, how many tables & what freebies they threw in for you. hope to have some idea how generous they are to throw in value adds so that I can work out on what to ask them for. also - how your payment deal with them? is it 20% for confirmation then subsequent of 10%, 10%, 20%? Thks v much!

hi peppermt,

i thk i have spoken to u in the email before. : )
so you still have not signed up yet?
the thing abt shang is, you have to bargain with them.
i thk the reason why they are abit more generous with me is because i am have a lunch reception on the same day. i will be having 45 tables.
u can drop me an email n i can share with you.

i must say the waterfall terrace for small dinners - buffet was amazing. the food was fantastic and there was so much nobody really finished it. Felt so wasted but i couldn't eat anymore! hahaha...however, they had cold hard bread and a turkey carving which wasn't very nice. Decor and everything else not bad. Lastly, the manager kinda hung around after the dinner FOR A LONG TIME with something that looked like a 'bill'. It was like he was chasing the couple for payment...tsk tsk tsk, how irritating

Ya. IMO, i find that their buffet spread is great & the decor is in accordance wif wat we wanted during our solemnization ceremony. The co-ordinator & wedding butler are very attentive too. Really worth every cent. But again, it's very subjective oso.

I wish to know, any gals intend to hold their banquet at Shang? My AD is next yr end, most likely will opt for Shang. Anyone's AD is next yr too? Pls share the perks. Realised here's a bit quiet than PANPAC!!!

hopefully, more update here & keep this thread more lively!!

hi biba, i will be having my solemnization, tea ceromony n dinner at shang next year too. mine will be in jan. yours?
i really feel that u shd consider shang cos they will be renovating their ballroom this july. therefore the ballrooms will be even more grand n new. : )

hi cin,
can i know how much more do you have to pay for solemnization at shang? will there be a reception after that? I'm considering having holy matrimony in the late morning, followed by a reception in the same hotel as my dinner. Wonder if that would cost a bomb!?

cin,

I had my solemnization at Shang last year. Very nice & memorable for everyone. I'm lokking at their wedding dinner package. But my AD is next Dec so it's kinda early to book now. When did u book the venue? Have u made any deposit? I wanted to know the payment scheme at Shang. Like how much is the deposit, first payment, intermediate...& I oso heard that Tower Ballroom will be renovating. So urs is at Island? How many tables do u have? Do u mind share wif me the perks of the contract/PM me? Did u liaise wif Wendy? Dunno will there be a change in their package for next yr. Any idea? I wish to attend their bridal show if any but no idea when they will have one, currently only rasa & trader's hotel...

hi ice cream, they have different packages to suit your needs for the solemnisation. i m getting a lunch reception. it is $68 per pax.they let me use the pavilion from 1100 to 1500. so during this time, i have solemnsation, plus lunch and then the traditional tea ceremony. if u r getting the place just for solemnisation w/o food, u got to pay a rental fee for the locations. i thk its about 4k. therefore, it really depends on what u want. try to call them for a package.

hi biba, its not too late to book now esp dec is a very hot month. yah. i have it at island ballroom too. once confirmed, u got to pay them 7k. i have forgottem abt the subsequent payment. my coordinator is wendy. since u have a function with them b4, try looking for the same coordinator. ask her for some discounts.the thing abt shang is, u got to be thick skin with them. their package is not as comprehensive as the rest of the hotels, but they r good. so far i still find their wedding set up the best. they r very generous with flowers n plants!
frankly speaking, u cant go wrong in choosing shang.

biba8169

New Member
cin,

I totally agreed wif u, they won't be stiny on floral & other arrangement. We were oso very thick skin when we neg our package wif them last year.

So u have confirmed ur banquet wif them & paid 7k? Is 7k fixed? How many table do u have for Island? Weekday is 45/weekend is 55 rite? Urs is weekend? Any possibility that we can go for less table for Island?Which package did u go for? Silver/gold? I realised their package did not have food tasting/no free beer? What else did u ask for FOC? Did u pop by Tower Ballroom? Can u share wif me? U can email me [email protected]

bamboobride

New Member
biba, mine is a sat. i m having 45 tables. the $7k is fixed. i have a frd who had only 38 tables there b4. so i thk its ok. why dun u try calling wendy up? she is a very nice lady. i feel very confident dealing with her.
i thk they r able to give me more freebie is becos i m having a lunch reception with them. they gave me beer. try asking for that n they will give. there is free food tasting too. did u misread it? u sure u dun have? the best person to ask is wendy. cos i might be wrong or they might have change their package too.

which private collection did u had your function at?

actually if u dun have alot of tables, u shd try fullerton too. i was decding between full n shang.fullerton's package is very comprehensive.
or u can try raffles (very good service) and 4 seasons.

biba8169

thanks, cin.

Did ur frienz hold 38 at Island? Well, we had waterfall terrace last yr, very nice & private.
Yes, agreed wendy is very well-versed and flexible. We have been in gd terms wif her even after our event. A nice lady ya.

My sis has been to full for her frienz dinner and the food doesn't taste gd. & heard raffles food not as gd too. 4seasons, there's gd comment on the svc & food. My frienz recommend conrad. Maybe I'll oso try conrad.

which package did u take up? Silver/Gold/Plat?

bamboobride

New Member
hi biba, i am taking the gold package. i really thk u shd give 4 seasons a try. if i have a smaller guest list, i will definitely go for 4 seasons.

if u r going to conrad, look for judy, i have liased with her b4 n she is such a sweet gal.but conrad is 12 per table and its abit tight for the guests. n their max is 38 tables. the last time i go to them, they told me jan n feb 05 weekends r all taken up.

so when is your ad? dec this year or next year? decided on your bridal boutique already?

Can i check with u regarding your solemnisation? was the food good? did u opt for the tea or lunch package?we be having ours at pavilion. who is your jp? do u happen to have the list of jps' list? i tried to go to the net n search but no result. the one that we intend to ask is not in good health so we have to find another one.

Hi biba,

I'm also considering shang for my AD next yr end. I will be meeting up with Wendy next wk. Can u tell me what kind of perks she is offering u and did she tell u how much will the package costs for yr 2005.

Hi Ladies,

I'm currently considering Shang. Just wondering what kind of additional perks did you all get from Shang? Any waiver of corkage for wine?

Btw, I also find their bridal suite kinda small. Which rooms did you all get? Is it also the premier suite at the Tower Wing? Any possibility of changing to Garden wing or Valley wing? Thanks in advance!

ger

Hi chinnie,

So far, didn't really hve much perks from shang. U want to share what perks did u get from Shang? Didn't get any waiver of corkage....

Me have not view the bridal suite b4. Is it really small? Can l know which ballroom u lookin at and when is ur AD?

Thanks

Hi germ,

i've not got any perks from Shang, have not sat down to negotiate yet as I've yet to make a decision, so trying to find out what is possible and what is not.

The bridal suite is indeed the smallest I've seen in all other hotels. Thought it is a real let-down for the Shangri-La name
sad.gif
May have to re-consider if I really want to take them if it's all that they can offer...

ger

Hi chinnie,

If u are lookin at complimentary beer or wine....we didn't have it. The only thing they are willing to give is more cards, carpark and 1 projector. But again if u hve more tables, u maybe able to negotiate more perks

How small is their suite? Can u give me a comparison.

chinnie

New Member
Hi germ,

The exact size of the suite is on Shang's website. In actual fact, its not exactly considered as a suite, more like an expanded hotel room... Can't really give you a comparison, becos it depends on which hotel you are comparing to, some are as big as a 3 room flat

ger

Hi chinnie,

Maybe shd check with Wnedy and see are we allow to upgrade to a bigger suite. Most wedding suite that l have seen are of reasonable size...that is their bedroom are seperated from the living/ dining area.

chinnie

Well, Shang's is so-called open concept, no segregation of bedroom and other areas. You can see the picture on their website too.

gals, maybe u can try fullerton. i was torn between these 2 hotels. both has got its advantages and disadvantages.

fullerton plus point is, during march period, they offered one red wine per table
. not sure if they still offer that. they have superb suite. very big and beautiful. they have a pianist to entertain your guests. actually their package is much more comprehensive than shang.
the only down point is their ballroom. very odd shape n guests at the extreme ends cannot see the couple walking down the stairs.
alternatively, u can try conrad. their coordinator ( iforgotten her name) is very efficient n their service is good.
overall, i chose shang is because of their pavilion n their newly renovated tower ballroom. other factors are their exclusiveness and service.
i guess its difficult to have all plus points in a hotel. so u got to see what is important to u.
just to inform u, whatever proposal they send to u by email is not final. u still bargain for more stuff when u meet up with wendy. try asking for an extra stay and another barrel of beer.
hope it helps. : )

ger

New Member
Hi cin,

Is it really true that shang suite is really small. Another barrel of beer...which means u actually have 2 barrel in total?

bamboobride

New Member
hi germ, actually i have not seen shang suite. so i am not sure if its that small. but even it is, i am ok with it. cos the big n grand ballroom overwrite all the negative points.

yep, i have 2 barrels. maybe becos i have booked the pavilion in the afternoon for my lunch reception so they r abit more generous with me. no harm asking wendy abt it. but i thought u have seen her already some time back? so what is your decision now?
if u really like big suite, maybe u can try fullerton. its real big! : )
