Merry Xmas and Happy New year everyone!

I just have my food tasting with Regent yesterday.
Cold plate is very nice.
But we changed most of every dishes because of the comment from our relatives.

The chef is very helpful! Thumbs up!

sweetlove, it's because the taste does not suit our relatives' palate. For them, it's either the taste too strong, or it's tasteless. Hence we discussed with the chef and he suggested we changed to another dish on the list. Perhaps in the beginning, we chose the wrong dish for our relatives ....
p.s. yeah, my family is a fussy eater... haiz

Hey Liz, I think they have a wedding roadshow at Vivo City this weekend. I am looking to confirm my booking with Regent as well and would like to know any additional perks we can ask for. How much is the deposit?

I just had my wedding at The Regent on 30 Dec 2010 and received rave reviews from my guests - the food was more than sufficient, was delicious (esp the suckling pig and lobster salad, and tiramisu - one guest said it was the yummiest wedding dinner she's tasted), and the service received was absolutely first class!
Eunice was my coordinator and she's fabulous - calmed my nerves before the solemnization and the march-ins, and dealt with all the last minute changes I threw at her with efficient poise (really last minute - on the day of the wedding I made changes to the number of guests at each table)..

The suite was beautifully done up with rose petals and hand-folded swans on the bed. We enjoyed the champagne and the complimentary strawberry shortcake - yummy!

Hi all, wondering is 8K deposit usual? i am looking at the smaller rooms - probably tanglin room. cos i heard most friends saying hotels usually ask for 3k deposit only.

yyiling

Dennis, their perks are quite fixed, maybe you can try asking for corkage waiver or switch perks that you don't need to things that you need.

pinkmouse, I'm not sure about tanglin room, but when I enquired at other hotels for the ballroom, the deposit ranges from 3K to 5K.

thanks yyiling! thanks for yr reply. any idea how Regent Hotel payment is like? e.g. some hotel is deposit 3k then rest of the payment is settled next day after banquet ends.

Hmm... hope can ask for more perks. Seems have to fork out more money on top. I have guest from overseas, so want to make the event worthy. Will fly in on Sat to discuss with Regent. Wish me luck!

Hi Sweetlove, noboru and all other Regent brides,

I am seriously considering The Regent for my upcoming wedding banquet (end 2011). Could you kindly share some pictures/videos of your AD? (you are welcome to add me on facebook [email protected] too) Thank you!

I have AD Evening photo album on my FB.. I also took a mini photoshoot around the hotel before the dinner started. The place is really lovely!!

Hi Wendy,

Ok added you already!

Yup, additional 1 night stay + 1Kg complimentary cake + free bottle of champagne and chocolate coated strawberries in the suite + $60 in-room dining credit. During wedding fair I suppose u can "bargain" for more things. However I booked it end 2009 so prices and perks have changed already.. Maybe additional 1 night stay is ok to bargain, many hotels offer that too.

hi all, i'm currently sourcing for the venue for my wedding in 2012. just like to check, does Regent offer food tasting FOC or is it chargeable?

The ballroom at regent has been booked for ALL saturdays for the rest of the year

i'm now left with the Tanglin room. Anyone here has held her banquet at the Tanglin room and has pictures/experience to share? I heard that the aisle is a little crammed for the march-ins.. is it?

Hi, i've seen and considered the tanglin room cos I couldn't meet the min for ballroom. It's basically a series of function rooms with removable partitions, v long room. With banquet tables, layout will be one table on each side of the room. I didn't like it cos it really just a meeting room, so diff compared to the nice pavilion ballroom.

pinkmouse: you've got a point there. i agree the ballroom is very pretty! too bad it's all taken.. so i'm left with the tanglin.. decor wise i'm not too concerned since regent does it really well
happy.gif

so you didn't take regent in the end?

hi wendy,
I will hold my ROM reception at Tanglin room. My friend held her wedding reception there too!
And I think the long room has its advantage:
- long march in
- everyone can see you

Although for me, it's ROM reception, so actually we don't need march in. ehehehe...

Decor wise, I don't think Regent will disappoint us.

For march in, I don't think the aisle is crammed. Especially if you only have 16 tables

Hi Latte, cool! when is your reception? do you have pictures of your friend's reception? I agree the long march-in is going to be really great. I'm looking forward to that!

Regent just sent me a picture of the Tanglin room.. it looks like the aisle is only wide enough for 1 person to walk, even after the chairs are tucked in.. also, some themed decor doesn't apply to Tanglin room coz the aisle decors cannot fit into the room.. >.<

sweetlove: serious? did you try tt? i would try if i can.. then my whole family can go..
happy.gif
yup their show is in feb.. but i would be confirming my venue sooner that tt coz dates in 2011 are running out fast!

shouldn't be a problem asking them to top-up to 10 pax. you can even ask them to serve 2 different types of dishes for a same course. eg. u were given 3 kinds of desserts to choose from, so u can ask them to serve 2 out of the 3 desserts during tasting, of coz the portion will be for 5pax for each dessert. But note not all course can be done this way, eg, the fish course

Ya same as what Herman say
happy.gif
muz bargain for it.. 8 pax where got enough! Other hotels also give 10 pax.

Herman: How did your wedding go?

Wendy you can "chop" the dates with your co-ord first, then if someone else is interested they will notify you immediately. However will depend on who give the deposit first to confirm the date.. Otherwise, you may like to let your co-ord know you are interested in the wedding show too, so even after you have booked your wedding dinner, maybe they will give you complimentary entry
happy.gif
Also bargain for the perks from the wedding show! Say you are so interested until you cannot wait.. So close to the wedding show, surely they can give u the same perks! ;)

It all depends on how you talk to them lah ;)

rojak

herman n sweetlove: ok! i will do that. was just wondering if they would let me try a couple, and you 'answered' my question!
happy.gif

sweetlove: yes i have made a tentative booking.. will be confirming it soon.
happy.gif
and yes, my coord natalie did offer me the wedding show perks, which are quite good! (more wine more beer 1 more nite stay) dun have complimentary entry.. dunno if she will allow after i sign? hehe.. need an excuse to go if i sign already still want to go.. haha

oh oh! any idea during food tasting will the tables be decorated according to the chosen theme, just to have an even better idea?

Hi Sweetlove, my wedding went perfectly well, everyone was delighted by our crystal theme & quality of the food. when's yurs? I hope yours will be as great!

Wendy: the food tasting will be held at Summer Palace, so it's juz a normal restaurant, they wun do up the table as per your theme
happy.gif
if you scare they flip their words, better write in black & white when negotiating then compare wat's on the drafted contract.

wlove

New Member
Wendy: Yah say you are interested to know about the quality/taste of the food (since they shld have food for couples to try) and want to see the themes.. by right they should offer complimentary to you. if not just ask! Surely it's the best time to see their stuff (like theme, wedding favours etc).

Nah the table is at the restaurant on Lv 2 as what Herman say, so they wont be able to do it. Thats why must go the wedding show!! See all their fabulous themes! tee hee ;)

Herman: Glad everything went smoothly! Mine too! My guests all said the food is not bad! Portion enough also.. Mine is 1 day before yours :p Did u manage to break even?

hermes76

Member
sweetlove: fortunately yes, managed to breakeven. if yours 1 day before mine, means on a working Thursday ah, u chose their new 'crystal' theme also?

rojak

New Member
herman: ohh ok! then i will try to attend the showcase. i'm amazed you can actually break even! i'm just hoping to get as close as possible..
happy.gif

sweetlove: the open house is a buffet right? so it's different food being served? but yes, i did try to ask for that.. waiting for the reply now.. my wedding coordinator (natalie) is on leave for a few days.. hopefully she allows! i'm requesting for 10pax food tasting too! hehe.. all thanks to the great ideas from the 2 of u

wendy: initially we were prepared for ard 5K deficit but we were lucky, the presence of our generous guests saved us(we even have a table for our planners, PGs, VGs!). who to invite is important too, those long time no see friends can leave them out unless u r sure they will attend, also rememeber to send reminders(1mth, 2wks) before AD so u can make final adjustments. Not so nice if a table has got only 4-5pax in it, but sometimes i know really no choice.
