n forgot to mention, thumbs up for the food n service for my wedding lunch at MO! All the guests that I asked commented on the good food & prompt service from the banquet staff

Hi Chloe,

My dishes are:
1. Lobster & prawn cocktail served with seafood roll (but we changed the seafood roll to silver bait, cos the roll was qte hard during food tasting)

2. Superior soup double-boiled with five treasures (this was gd! there were huge chunks of abalone, fish maw etc.. soup was flavourful.. individually served)

3. Stir-fried scallop with XO sauce & served with deep-fried yam apple (interesting presentation of fried yam in the shape of apple. tasted gd too haha)

4. Whole duck stewed with five treasures (we thought it was a little dry, like it's not stewed long enough. But some guests thought it was soft enough, so I guess to each his own. Other than that, it was nice too.)

5. Steamed fillet of cod with daikon in superior sauce (this was the best dish during food tasting - literally saw fireworks when we ate it haha - it was perfectly steamed and brought out the distinct creamy flavour of cod fish. During the banquet it was a little more overcooked, but still good per se.)

6. Glutinous rice in beancurd wrap (another rave review from the guests. Rice was soft & moist. Something different from the usual banquet fare.)

7. Chilled mandarin orange served white fungus in osmanthus tea (this was the disappointing dish unfortunately. It was too sweet-syrupy like drinking canned fruit syrup. Not a tinge of osmanthus tea we were expecting. So I won't recommend this dessert unless they can de-sweeten & have more osmanthus tea fragrance)

All in all, I've not heard a guest disliking the overall food, which is a feat in itself. Many of our guests were actually thanking us for the lunch when we bade them off, and I wondered y them. Personally this was the best banquet I've ever eaten, even though it was kept warm & served later in the room. Room service was astonishing - it came with a cute portable dining table-cum-warmer and we ate by the full length window. Definitely an unforgettable experience!

hi macadamia3050, thanks so much for sharing ur menu and food reviews with me!

my fren said MO's shark fin is good too, and the steamed fillet of cod with daikon is different from the one with teriyaki sauce? my coordinator recommended me that one.

So far, no bad comments on MO's food, think the food is really good! hehe.

btw, what theme did u have for ur banquet? (sorry if u did mentioned prev, lazy to read all the post)

we tried the braised shark fin during our food tasting hee.. v huge chunks of shark fin.. but we thought we should be more shark-friendly, so ended up choosing the other soup, which turned out gd too..

hmm i'm not sure about the cod in teriyaki sauce, nv tried it b4 :p

we went for love theme.. turned out pretty well, although it wasn't anything spectacular.. u can choose different rose colours if you like

Macadamia3050.. Thank you very much for sharing your menu! I was wondering which ballroom did you take? How did you do your march in? Coz I will be taking largest ballroom and the shape's a little weird fr the march in..

Hehe no worries, happy to share e gd experience
happy.gif

We took e oriental ballroom..stage in e middle, had 29tables, so we could do L-shaped march in - did first march in fr one side, then 2nd march in on e other side to make it less boring n so that both sides guests can c us hehe.. e ballroom was ok for our march in, u'll b avoiding e flying poppers more than thinking of e march in

hi btbs,

@macadamia i am salivating....... so happy to hear the good food reviews =)))

i was wondering about the march in too, it seems like the L shape march in is a little short no?
i was thinking of going for that long march in but i am worried about the guests at the end of the ballroom feeling leftout.

Hi ladies, I'm an Oriental bride having my lunch banquet in June.

We were very very close to signing with Fullerton, but changed our minds and went with Oriental at the last min. There has been no regrets so far. My experiences with Oriental's service has been nothing short of professional and pleasant, with very prompt replies to our enquiries, and many goodwill given when possible.

Just had the food tasting last week and the food was FABULOUS! Everyone in our family were impressed. The only qualm is that because it's a 7 course menu, we don't have a vegetable dish, and we're slightly worried the guests may find the meal too 'meaty'.

Currently, we're going through our favour options. I gotta say the part Oriental is lacking in is their favours and invitation card design options. There are not many favours to choose from, and the wedding card designs are uncreative compared to other hotels which we saw during wedding shows.

What favours did you ladies choose or think is a good choice?

Hi noir, I am also an Oriental June bride.
happy.gif

Was thinking of choosing the set of heart-shaped measuring spoons cos it's practical.

So how's your menu like? MO changed the menu and 2011's menu is new.

hey noir, my wedding dinner is in May. we nearly sign up with Fullerton too, but finally decided with MO due to the high raves in their food. hehe.
i think that their wedding card is really nice and has good quality, although only 4 colors to choose from.

i forgot what kind of wedding favours they have, can u refresh my memory?
i will be choosing the favours in Apr.

btw, r u the same noir in MDW's thread? if so, we are both MDW and MO's bride. hehe hi 5^

Hey chloe! hi 5^! Wah we have same bridal boutique and hotel, and we both almost sign fullerton. AND we have almost the same gown! Our taste really the same loh! Are u doing lunch as well? I think their main 3 favours are : Love Spoons, Heart paper weight, and a pair of keychains. So 'duh' right!

Blurgwen, I'm looking at the spoons too, but that one quite common I have a few from attending previous banquets before. Are we able to choose 2 favours and alternate them on the tables?

The heart seems the most useful so far: My mom says good for my toddler nieces and nephews to chew on since they're teething. My fiance says good for defense to throw at snatch thieves. My brother says a 'heart of steel' will not get broken. -_- So ya, my family seems unanimous.

This is the menu I chose:

APPETIZERS
Mandarin Oriental Lobster and Prawn with Seafood Roll

SOUP
Double-Boiled Superior Soup with Five Treasures

SEAFOOD
Crispy King Prawn served with Wasabi Mayo

POULTRY
Roasted Chicken with Crispy Garlic & Curry Leaves

FISH
Baked Sliced Cod Fish in Superior Teriyaki Sauce

NOODLES / RICE/ BUN
Deep-Fried Buns with Chilli Crabmeat Sauce

DESSERTS
Hazelnut Royaltine

I think the menu is the same as last year's? Are you doing lunch too?
happy.gif

thanks noir for sharing the wedding favours, it's really limited choices haha. and yes, i agreed that paper weight seems the most useful one.

mine is a wedding dinner on Sunday. =)

i have not confirm my menu yet though, will be confirming the favours, theme and menu in mid-apr.

i dont think u're kan cheong, it's good to start early hehe.

yup, i have collected my wedding cards already, went to T-dragon for the printing...will start to distribute in Apr. my guestlist almost 90% finalised.

what about u?

Hrm have designed the cards but have not sent for printing yet.. will probably do so coming week.. We're not using T-dragon coz my fiance and I found it quite ex for the lack of customization options.

wow designed ur own card, sounds interesting hehe.

do u know if MO has a list of songs for us to choose for our march in? i have not check with my coor on this yet...

Chloe, I went to Tdragons to print my cards too! Hahaha!

Noir, I *think* we can alternate the favours, at least that was what I heard from my banquet coordinator. Hmm, throwing it at thieves seems to be a good reason. ;)

Yeah, I am doing a lunch too, on a Sat.
happy.gif
I was actually looking at the stewed duck, but 2011's menu doesn't have this item anymore. Maybe will take the pork knuckle instead.

Chloe, nope not yet. Got the artwork though. Haha, the lady was explaining all the different styles for the chinese portion. It was so interesting!

blurgwen, yup, r u referring to roseline? she is very nice hehe.

my htb and i are now looking for nice songs for our wedding, looks like we need to find quite a few songs. like 1st march in, 2nd march in, photo montage, cake cutting, champagne toasting...

Hi all,

I am new here! My fiance and I are very interested in holding our wedding next year at Mandarin Oriental, after reading all the rave reviews. Greatly appreciate if sher, chloe and ysl can PM the perks they managed to bargain for.

Thanks in advance!

i will be meeting my coor tomorrow to discuss on the wedding favours, theme, food menu, and other logistics matter etc. cos she will be away from sunday to mid-apr, so she suggested us to meet earlier if not late apr will be too rush.

As i'm taking the Atrium suite, there is no complimentary food tasting. we have to pay a discounted price, but we dont wish to spend on that cos after receiving so much raves on their food, we are quite confident in their food and my coor assured us that actually food tasting is not really necessary in our case.

So, we will decide on the menu based on her recommendations as well as some brides' opinion from this thread. hopefully everything turns out well. hehe.

pls share with me your menu if you have any recommendations k. hehe. btw, mine is a sunday dinner.

ex-oriental bride popping by to say 'hi'! =)

anyway saw the discussion on wedding favours and no doubt the choices are not spectacular, i have to vouch for the quality. it's 1.5years since my wedding and the paperweight on my study desk is still shiny and not showing any sign of tarnish -which is amazing cause my house gets the sea breeze and even the window grills are rusting but not this.

mintz, thanks for sharing the favour's quality.
any comments or recommendations on their food?

helovesmi, if i remember correctly, dazzle theme does not have any flowers...u might want to drop by on 24 apr for their wedding show to take a look? i will be going cos i'm staying at MO on that weekend for my bachelorette party..

hi chloe. my wedding was back in 2009 so the menu might have changed since. the crowd favourites were the double boiled sharks fin soup, cod and chili crab buns. nonetheless trust you will be in good hands with oriental (and chef roy, still?) so not to worry. they did screw up a little on the warm choco pudding during my food tasting but on the actual day, it was delivered perfectly and my guests loved it.

oooo thanks mintz, yup i will be choosing the double boiled shark fins soup, teriyaki cod fish, chili crab buns cos these 3 items have the highest raves so far. the headache part is dessert. not sure which one is nice, my coor recommended me to take their dark choc hazelnut cake or yam paste..

chloe > dark choco hazelnut cake sounds yummy! while yam paste is more traditional and will probably be what the elders will like. you will be at MO during the wedding show right? can see if they will serve any sample of the desserts - they used to do so 2 years back and that's how i shortlisted my dessert.

mintz, yup i will be going to their wedding show, okok, will keep a lookout on the sample desserts hehe. ya my coor also said yam paste more for elderly, so she asked if we have many relatives' table..in our case, it's quite evenly spread. so we kind of prefer the dark choco cake. hehe.

thanks for sharing~~

chloe > oh the dark hazelnut cake sounds delicious. Haha, my FH and I are debating whether to get that or the mango cake. ;D

Here is the photo of the Hazelnut and Mango Cakes taken last Nov.

blurgwen, thanks for the pic! hehe, it's presented so nicely!

i guess most prob i will take the dark choc hazelnut cake.

Poorthing, maybe u can go to their wedding show this 24th to see their theme. my coor told me love theme will be used on Atrium suite, just nice for me, cos i'm taking that. can take this chance to 'feel' the ambience
happy.gif

oh yesh, i gg there.. Anybody aware what additional perks that oriental may gg to give during the show? At least I can mk up my mind to sign during the show

Hi Oriental brides,

For brides who just had their weddings, may I know if you had Muslim guests? Understand that Oriental is only able to serve no pork no lard. So may I know did anyone requested for MUIS' service to cater halal menu?

Hello! I'm a Oriental bride and holding my lunch on March 2012.
Sandy was my coordinator but she's leaving!!! ='(
Not sure who my new coordinator will be though.
I'm going for the wedding show this Sunday and I really hope they have new wedding favors.
