Hi **gal**,

He's okay.just stress that it will be 2-3mins.
can see tt he's abit not v pleased. but ultimately i say i would like to know more about it and he invited me to observe 1 session of ROM conducted by him and say that his sharing is definately not offensive to those who are non buddhist. i didnt go as i feel tt it's awkward to appear without the couple's consent
I've seen quite alot of good comments about Mr Chia, so i decided to go ahead with the sharing.

hihi,

ya I can also sense from his email reply that he is not very pleased when we don't want the sharing... and since he stress that it will be only 2-3mins, we scared that it will be like "chop-chop and get it over with" kind of session...

Kristin, so when your ROM? You inform Mr Chia about the briefing via email or when meet up with him to sign the consent form?

Kristin, thank you very much for sharing.
What you mean by this "can see tt he's abit not v pleased", since you email to him to confirm the briefing. Or this is previously when you do not want the briefing? Confused...hehe

Hi Gal, at 1st i said i didnt want the sharing, Mr Chia was not v pleased.then after much discussion with my bf, we decided to go ahead with it and email Mr Chia. he asked us whether his style is what we wanted, i just say that we are okay with the sharing and he ask us to go ahead with the e-filing. =)

Hi Vanillasky, ya.its better to find another JP if you are not comfortable with it. Ultimately, both u and yr hubby must be happy =)

Hi all.. had my solemnisation mths back.. My solemnisor was Mr Chia.

The sharing he gave was about life being husband and wife.. stuffs like managing finance.. being understanding, comprise with your better half n so on. and abt being grateful to parents and in-laws.

basically abt life philisophy. some find it a drag but sme find it meaningful. give it a try!

Hi Kristin, thanks for sharing.

Hi Jess, so the overall sharing doesnt really related to Buddhism? How long the sharing?

Thanks

Hi **gal**, the overall sharing is more of life philisophy. stuffs such as how to maintain the hubby and wife r/s, finance, etc. for my case it took abt 5 mins. some of my guests find it meaningful but some others find it too lengthy. so its up to individual.

i cant say its not totally related to Buddhism. it's related in a way or so. but if you do understand what he's trying to put through, then it is meaningful.

Hi Vernica,

If you wish to engage a famous JP, you might need to contact him/her about 4-6 months ahead. They might not be able to commit or give a certain ans but at least you mght be able to secure a slot.

heehee.. so qiao, Mr Chia's daughter has the same name as my bride, except for the surname.. However, even the surname is quite similar Chia vs. Chiam...

a good sign!

hi all,

not sure if i'm too sensitive or wat.. i have recently engaged Mr Chia for my ROM next year.. initially he was very friendly but after he spoke about the briefing during the solemnisation, his response changed, very cold response.. but we have agreed to have the briefing afterall.

we had liased only thru emails.. making my puzzled.

anyone experienced the same thing?

nope, in fact the very exact reason why i wanted Mr Chia to be my solemniser is for him to share the teachings with our two families... When we met up, I told him specifically our underlying reason. He is more than happy to share... ^^ heehee...

previously we also liaised only through emails and sms... meeting up in person and talking to him only reaffirms my decision to invite him as my solemniser.

for me, i wanted a special solemnisation as me, my parents, my perspective mother-in-law are buddhists.

my fiance is believes in Buddha's teachings. hence we would really love to hear him share for our two families. ^^

haha... ^^ when i saw his list, me and my fiance sweat... he is really very busy... super popular i would say.. i told him we got to know about him through singapore brides..

so BTBs and GTBs, no worries.. you are in safe hands... he is a devoted Buddhist. =)

Mr Chia is my JP for my ROM on coming sunday. We will be taking the chinese vows so that our parents can understand.

May i ask how is the ring exchange vows like for the chinese solemenisation?

Hi pinko,

The ring exchange vows goes the same as those in english. You read the chinese vows to your partner before you put the ring on his hand. =)

for BTBs who are considering Mr Chia, i will post a video of his sharing after my ROM in march... perhaps by then, you will get a better idea of how is it like =)

most important, all of you must be comfortable with it.. go with your preference..

Hi everyone.. Happy CNY.

I invited Mr Chia as my solemnizer in Jan 2011, but he say his license expires in Dec 2010. So he say he will KIV my date but can only confirm in Sep 2010. Anyone also have this same problem as me?

Any idea how ease for a soleminzer to renew his license? Actually how early should we book a JP for solemnization? We are worried that we won't be able to find a JP last min.

just had my rom recently, jp was Mr Chia.. He was friendly when we met but not sure why on our rom day, his mood was not very good. I sms him prior to my rom to inform that my hb will be the contact pt for our rom. No replies from him and on the day, my Hb kenna scolding from him when he called to confirm if he was on the way... not the friendly that we wanted to engage... maybe he had a bad day but he should contain his emotions to the wedding couple and guests..I mean it was our rom and of course we are anxious hence the confirmation call before it.

Not exactly one i would recommend after my own experience.

I also heard from my photographer that he has seen him scolding the couple's parents..
To engage a famous JP is sometimes a risk as well.. he may have too tight schedule and hence you might not receive what you expect...

nevertheless he completed the solemnisation with no major hiccups.. we aren't really unhappy with him as my hb and I are happy for the occasion. Just wasn't expecting the attitude from the JP that's all.

dreamer11, that's very unusual coming from Mr Chia... mmz.. for my case, i sms Mr Chia to check on his whereabouts.. i got a prompt reply from him that he is on his way.. Shortly, 10 minutes later he arrived..
happy.gif

by the way, he is a buddhist... i wonder what had happened... he was very friendly and fatherly... my ROM was done perfectly... if you had read about the other JP Mr Ch*n, you would have seen a lot worse..

all in all, we are after all humans... bound to have emotions... maybe he had a bad day in the office.. after all the nature of his work is quite stressful.. not that i am finding excuses for him...

by the way, just to share with fellow BTBs...

his talk is a little sharing from Buddha's teaching... not really that much wrt Buddhism, but its about practical tips in maintaining your marriage...

however, there will be the mentioning of Buddha... hence if you are a christian, you might feel uncomfortable... just to let everyone be in the look.

ya i am not sure what happened exactly.. maybe the weather was too hot for his liking that causes the mood??

Indeed the sharing was on buddhist teachings and we were aware of it.. some pple will like it.. some not especially in a hot weather. Ours was an outdoor event and he had requested for the solemnisation to be under shade. On our event, i was told from my coordinator that he requested us to swap seats with him as he was not in the shade due to the seating arrangements.. imagine both us under the sun facing the guests, while he's in shade back facing the guests??

luckily i disagreed and requested the solemnisation table to be shifted just a little inwards and rearrange the other guest seats so that all will be under the shade...

it wasn't a major issue as it was settled but wasn't a good feel to hear the request.. my guests also noticed that he stared at our friend's kid when he was little playful at the corner.. he expects full attention and no disturbance from anyone when he's doing the teachings..

i am not here to damage anyone's image as i had good comments of him when we met him.. friendly and nice.. but just on the day wasn't what we were expecting..maybe really becos of the weather and my hb anxious calls that irritates him ba...just something to share so that the btbs here can prevent any hiccups on their day..

cheers.

the teachings was abt ten mins i supposed.. hence some pple might not appreciate it in a hot weather.. that happens to mine when majority of my guests headed boredom when he was half way done..
well, the teachings were quite meaningful la.. just have to appreciate it....

mmz... dreamer11, for my solemnisation it was done outdoors as well... by stroke of luck, the sun was shinning quite brightly on all of us...

however, one good thing was the sun was shinning on our back.. but this wasn't the case for him, the sun was shinning directly on his face... really pity him...

actually for such sharing on buddhist teachings, its actually a very solemn matter.. likewise for the solemnisation... hence, it would be good if there are no external disturbance... for him, i requested that little kids to be exempted from the event itself in case if they decide to be naughty... haha...

dreamer, its good for you to share what you had experienced... so fellow BTBs can be aware what to take note of. after the soleminsation, we invited him for our buffet lunch which he kindly obliged. ^^ we talked and shared quite a fair bit..

congrats to you, dreamer11

actually for mr chia, i think sending him a sms would be good enough.. in fact prior to our 1st meet up to get the prior documents signed, our correspondence had always been through emails and sms, they were very prompt and detailed...

do feel free to update us.
