Grand Hyatt Singapore

I had my wedding at Hyatt, guess what? They played the wrong song for my first march-in. They stopped & continue with my actual song. Imagine 650 guests kenw they played the wrong song. The name on my reception desk was spelt wrongly. The staff was not even apologetic that they played the wrong song when they present the bill at the end of dinner. Until today, we cannot forget they messed up my BIG day.

Serene,

Sorry to hear about your experience with Hyatt. Hope that the rest of the wedding went on fine.

Hi all,

Anyone had a wedding at Hyatt recently? or attended one there? Any comments on the service or food? Thanks.

My brother's wedding was held in Hyatt recently on a Sunday. There were quite a few wedding banquets going on that night, so Hyatt's standard dropped drastically. The main complains were :
1) food was served cold, especially the steam fish, so my relatives complain like mad.
2) food was slow : There is a big lapse between the 7th and 8th dish, and dinner ended at 11:15 pm
3) the banquet manager did not respond quick enough when we ask him to serve faster.
4) the waiters did not change plates frequently enough.

However, my colleague attended another one on a monday, and she commented that everything was good.

So I think it depends on whether there are many concurrent banquets going on.

Hi all,

I am considering Hyatt for my dinner banquet. Actually deciding between Hibiscus and Sir Stamford Ballrooms.

Comments from all welcome. Thanks.

Hi Keith,

Hyatt was one of the 2 hotels that we were looking very closely at. However, their lack of flexibility disappointed us. Everything was chargeable - there seemed no room for negotiation. To us, it's our BIG DAY we're planning for. To them, it's just another money-spinning deal to close. We felt they were missing in the "personal" touch - kept up a very professional front - perhaps to a fault, since it's a "wedding" we're talking about here.

I was looking at 300-350 guests. So Hibiscus and Sir Stamford were not within our consideration. Magnolia and pillars, and Grand Ballroom was too big for us, or rather, we couldn't meet the minimum for weekends. The option we had was to have at least 40 tables, and pay another $40 more per table.

I've seen one wedding at Hibiscus. I was rather impressed by the reception area cos it was lit up with lots of candles. Apparently, they charge $25 per candle(with 5-8 flames) for 1 hour of burning.

Comparing ballroom to ballroom, I prefer the feel and colour of Hibiscus.

I've got nothing against Hyatt and their ballrooms. I guess we just didn't click with the one who served us and so we ended up with another hotel!

Good Luck!

hi keith,

i booked the hibiscus ballroom. i loved the ambience in the hibiscus and the slightly higher ceilings. but the downside is that the ballroom is smaller and there is a possibility that there may be other weddings on the same floor.

who is your sales coordinator? snowie's story is quite common. i have met a sales coordinator who was extremely inflexible. he was the first one assigned to handle our case and he was so rude and arrogant. he told us, straight in our faces, that if we don't agree to the terms, other couples would so he feels no incentive in giving us freebies. if i didn't like hibiscus so much, i honestly wouldn't have considered hyatt any more. in the end, my hubby requested for a switch to another sales coordinator who was recommended in this forum. the new coordinator was very nice and patient with us. he agreed to let us swap some items (e.g. cards) to suit our needs. so we signed up with him instead.

Hi all,

I'm dealing with cynthia, she's quite nice just that she really doesn't budge on a lot of things, such as giving extra freebies. maybe it's because i'm getting a weekend dinner and they know that the demand is there, so no need to give so much freebies.

Anyone had similar experiences at Hyatt?

och

hi all,

louis is resigning!! oh no!

cynthia is very strict. she was answering some of my emails to louis and my gosh, she didn't even agree to let me have another vip parking lot! according to many people in this forum, most hyatt coordinators are like that. they are quite unwilling to compromise on weekend dinners. but they are usually willing to let you swap things. i swap away the cards for food tasting.

keith

New Member
Hi och,

I'm surprised you got food tasting instead of the invitation cards. Cynthia simply wouldn't give it to me, even if I wanted to trade in my 2nd nite stay in hotel.

So what did you get for your package? thanks in advance.

och

New Member
hi keith,

i tried swapping 2nd nite stay for food tasting but failed too. think it's bcos the cost of the extra nite stay is quite low to hotels.

i didn't manage to get many freebies, all i got were
1) complimentary day use room (subject to availability)
2) late checkout (subject to availability)
3) option to swap invitation cards or chocolates for food tasting
4) option to swap invitation cards for gold sashes for all chairs

i heard that hyatt is usually willing to give 100% of cards. maybe u can try asking for that? but see if u and ur wife like their wedding cards first. sashes are also low costs to them, so u can also try asking for those.

hi princessz and snoopy,

who did u get assigned to? louis called to tell me that i have been assigned to eileen. wonder if she's as friendly as louis.

did u gals manage to get more freebies?

Hello All,

I am a Hyatt bride too. My coordinator is Billy & I am thinking of switching coordinator.

Any comments about Billy's service & which coordinator would you recommend in Hyatt?

Thanks!

Hi och,

I managed to get the following:-
1) complimentary day use room (from 3-8pm)
2) complimentary food tasting for 10
3) 80% invitation cards
4) 30% car park passes
5) 180+++ for additional room (for overseas guest)

Hi snoopy,

may i know whether you are holding your dinner on a weekday or weekend, and which ballroom did you get for your wedding, the Grand Ballroom in Hyatt?

cos what i understand is that if the dinner is held on a weekday and the no. of tables are substantial, it is much easier to negotiate with the hotel and generally, they are much more willig to throw in some freebies.

But i must say, snoopy, you really got a good deal from Hyatt, may i know who did you liaise with in Hyatt, maybe go and look for him/her also.

thanks.

I checked out this site after a friend of mine told me about this forum. I think it is a good feedback system. I mean its always good to learn from others' mistakes / misfortunes. I also feel that it is a very good thing for those who had good/bad experience at their weddings to come forward share it with others. However, I honestly feel that it is not proper to mention names of staffs of the hotels concerned. I am currently a civil servant and I for one certainly would not want the quality of my work be discuss in public, be it good comments or bad criticism. Would you?
Anyway, for those who are planning a wedding, my advice to you is (I'm married): Don't expect your wedding to be perfect, or you will only be giving youself additional pressure. Many people hold a wedding for the sake of showing to others. But a wedding should be a happy, warm, pressureless occasion. You should be enjoying the whole planning/preparation process and not be troubled by it. All the best and congrats!

Hey all,

I had my wedding dinner recently at Hibiscus Room, and I have to say I was very pleased with the service we got and the whole works. The whole room was very nicely done up, and the reception area nicely lit up with candles. (We did not have to pay extra for the candles).

We chose Hibiscus over the other rooms was because we didn't have too many tables (25 tables), and we loved the color scheme and the fact that it had no pillars was very attractive.

We didn't get much freebies, but comparatively (to other hotels we visited), Hyatt was more willing to negotiate and exchange stuff we didn't want for lower rates for other stuff. But keeping in mind that we negotiated and booked our package a year ago, so they may have had a change of policy and are now more unflexible.

In all, we could just be real lucky, but the whole afternoon and night at the Hyatt was smooth sailing, and my friends commented that the food (especially the large juicy scallops and prawns, and sharks fin soup where there is actually sharksfin!!) was great.

Just to share my experience, and good luck to you all brides-to-be. I kinda miss being fussed over and being ooohed and aaahhhed at.

Good to hear that you have a good experience.

Hey Och,
I got assigned to the same coordinator as you but haven't got a chance to speak to her yet.

Only got a 20L barrel of beer complimentary.
Hmmm, didn't think of asking for a day use room.
And they refused to budge on the food tasting, so no didn't get complimentary food tasting.

Hi Mikki,

i had my wedding dinner at grand hyatt last month
the overall comments from the attendees were quite good
the one who served us was the business development manager Geogette Ong, a very nice & friendly lady.

the only complain we had was ahout hard liqure: actually my parent-in-laws had brought a few bottles of hard liqure and gave to the captain.
however when some guests asked for liqure, they simply answered: "no"

i don't know what was the problem because we only found this out a few days after the dinner, while one of the aunty complained to us.
but we were simply too lazy to call back and check who was the staff should be responsible for this.
anyway the banquet is over and this doesn't bother us too much

generally i was happy with their service and the deco of the ballroom was very nice.(hibiscus room, for 20~28 tables dinner)

Hi Uma,

my friends told me that some of the banquet staff 'ka-poh' the liquor when u hand over to them, and some would not even finish pouring the bottle and kept it for themselves.

Hi all,

I had my dinner at Hyatt Hibiscus... service generally fine, but most complimented the food was nice

We brought our own stout n hard liquor, hard liquor we didn't even finish 1 bottle, stout left a few, all these were returned to us.

uma

hi cia & cat,

sorry if i've mislead you ^_^
the staffs did return all those unopen liquor to us.
according to them no guests asked for hard liquor.
we felt strange but didn't think too much at that time.

we don't know why they don't want to serve...maybe the captain didn't tell them that we brought hard liquor? or he did tell them, but the waitors felt too troublesome to serve?

Hi,
I am considering Hyatt for my wedding dinner. I will have approx 30 tables, and will have to take either the Magnolia or Sir Stamford Ballroom. Anyone out there has used these 2 ballrooms before and how is the decor and ambience? Thanks.

keith

New Member
I would advise against the Magnolia room as there are hugh columns blocking the view of the guests. Although the hotel provides TVs for guest's viewing pleasure at the back, I think this is still not ideal. Why not you consider Hibiscus room?

sylvia

New Member
I would also like to have Hibiscus room but the max capacity of Hibiscus is 28 tables and I'm likely to have 30-33 tables that's why it's out. I'm disappointed that I can't meet the capacity for both Hibiscus and Grand Ballroom. Probably I will have to look for another venue.

hi sylvia,

the stamford ballroom is quite nice. it's on a floor by itself n a private reception area. the bonus is that u get to use the function rooms opposite it as a resting area for helpers etc which is very convenient.

hi Sylvia and och,

my brother-in-law also held their wedding banquet in Hyatt, Sir Stamford Room

they had 30 tables at that time. it was a bit crowded.

From reading all your negative comments abt Hyatt, then why are u people confirming at the venue. There are a lot of other Hotels to choose from. Is it becos of face value or prestige?
For the price that u people are paying, u could go to other better hotels for food and service.
Don't understand

Hi Jaslin,

I am new to this topic but I must speak up for Hyatt. I have confirmed my venue for Hyatt. I must say that it was my second choice. The first venue was already confirmed by another couple. However, I fell in love with the place when I stepped into the Grand Ballroom. We got along great with the coordinator. We got a good deal too.
So what complaints should I have!

May.

Hi May,

Good for u. However, it's a matter of individual choice. I've heard from friends too that the co-ordinators at hyatt are a bunch of "snobs".
Their attitude of "you want you take" or else ....
is really uncalled for.

hi may,

congrats! yay, another hyatt bride! i love the ambience in the grand ballroom, but unfortunately i dun hv enuf tables.

hi jaslin,

i must speak up for hyatt too, even tho i think that some of their coordinators r quite inflexible. sale coordinators r just around to facilitate the sales. even if they r difficult in the bargaining process, it doesn't necessarily mean that they r unprofessional in the other services they provide. a good wedding can still occur even if there isn't 50% car park passes or a night's stay in the presidential suite. hyatt has a lot to offer: ambience, good location n quite a good price. i hvn't attended a wedding dinner there before but most reviews i've heard ranged from ok to good. to some of us, that's a good hotel.

hi all,

i had my dinner at hyatt, hibiscus room in June. I agree that the sales side is quite inflexible, but they r professonal, n the food was great and their standard decor is nice so I didn't hv spend extra on decor. Generally I had good reviews! Except that my wedding was on a weekend, there were few weddings going on, the carpark was full n some of my guests had to park elsewhere! So actually no point asking for more car passes :p

hi juzmarried, i am gonna have my wedding @ hyatt in hibiscus room too in december. care to tell me which menu did u choose & what dishes are gd & not to be missed?
which theme did u choose? i chose the gold theme cos dat's what parents would love...gold!

juzmarried

New Member
hi ugly ducking,

I had 2 menus to choose from, I took most of the dishes from the "more spicy" menu. I got very good feedback on the "chicken in thai sauce" n "fried scallops in black pepper etc...".

i also chose the gold theme, cos the colour of the walls were orangery / gold. Personally I don't like the colour gold, but their gold decor is the matt classy kind, not the shiny gold. Think the overall ambience is quite good, so I didn't pay for any extra decor.

If you are taking dinner photos, remember to ask your photographer to ask the staff to brighten the lights. My phtots turned out great, but I've seen others that turned out too dark.

hi juzmarried, thanx for your advise. i am still thinking of asking the staff to "darken" the ballroom cos i like dim lighting, very romantic.

do u think the photos will turn out alright if i ask the photog to use a stronger flashlight?

och

hi juzmarried,

did u take their theme package? i'm wondering how to decorate the ballroom too, n i'm not sure if selecting the gold tableclothes is sufficient decorations.

btw, how many tables did u hv?

hi ugly duckling,

my photographers said that it isn't a problem with the flashlights. usually the faces turn out well, it's just that the background doesn't show up in the photos because all the spot lights r focused on the tables.

juzmarried

Hi ugly duckling,

I think their "standard" lighting is already quite dim n romantic enough
happy.gif
March-in photos still turned out alright. Before we went round for table photos, my photographer asked the staff to brighten the lights. If you use dim lights with strong flashlight, will the faces turn out very white?

Hi och,

I only took their standard decor, didn't have the budget for extra decor. Think they can do special theme decor but quite costly. We had 25 tables.

och

hi esprie, juzmarried,

thanks for the info. one of my options was to swap the cards with gold sash, but i'm now thinking that will be too dark. what's the centre piece u chose for each table?

hi ugly duckling,

i think there r candlestands on the vip tables, but these r taken away the moment the meal starts. so the couple will probably only see the stands for a few minutes.
