Hi girls,

you might want to check out this site
www.efushop.com

I stumbled upon this site while surfing for ideas for my cheongsum. They have ready made cheong sums and made to measure ones.

For made to measure, it is in a la carte form where you choose your fabric, the buttons and the style. The selection is quite decent.

Thought might be useful for some of you

Dear Delannie,

I tailored mine @ Doreen Chee's for $420 for my ROM this Feb. Mine is Shantung silk, V organza back, embroidery with crystals. I would say her designs is ok but I cannot remember the number of times that I went for my fittings, maybe 6 or 7 times. The service is good but the worksmanship is so-so. I will wear it again for my wedding not bcos it is so fantastic but bcos the $ is spent.

She is very nice, make an appmt with her & go see their work. I believe mine is a isolated case cos the rest of the dress on the rack looks nice.

Good luck!

Dear Gals,

My silly husband had to go play mahjong with his buddies on Sat so he didnt get to transfer the pics. I'll go to his place & get it done either today or tomorrow, will keep u gals posted ASAP.

Angeline, may i have your e-mail add so that I can mail it to you too?

I came across a shop in City Plaza, i tink it's on the 2nd level near the escalator, the workmanship & design is quite good, you can check it out cos they have some cheogsum too. ber

If you read through some of the archive, there seems to be quite a few in Chinatown which is quite affordable too & Nelson Tailor in Tiong Bahru. Unfortunately I do not have the contacts, good old Chin Leng may have some idea

Dear gals,

There's actually a very reputable tailor for cheong sums at Far East Shopping Centre known as Sunny Point. Their clientele includes those socialites, wives of ambassadors etc. Not cheap though. Approx between $600 - $800 for a long one. But definitely worth investing. Their workmanship is really good.

Hi Softie,

What type of material does the tailor use? Is it italian silk?

Hi gals

I've got my modified cheongsum tailor with Dang (my bridal shop). The charges are cheaper if ur package is with her. I got my own Thai silk so she charges me $250 for the beading work & tailoring as well as the extra material.

feel free to visit my photos:

Hello All,

There is a Beijing Tailor who has set up shop in Singapore. She comes highly recommended.
Venue : 02-100, Far East Plaza
Shop : Shang Hai Silk House
Tel : 67362579
Its open everyday of the week and offers cheongsam making services, latest silk ready-made dress, suits, tank tops etc. For the month of July, 10% discount is given for all items.
Her name is Xiao Cui.

I have not checked it out myself as yet (as I have not decided if I want a Cheongsam), but I am told that she is excellent with Cheongsams and her prices are reasonable.

I went to Shang Hai Silk House to get my cheong sam tailored. It is opened by a company in Shanghai that weaves Dior designed silk.

If you are looking for a long cheongsam using their material (which is quite nice) it costs $380. It's $350 for a short one I think.

If you use your own material It's $200 for a long one and $180 for a short one. They will charge $30 if you need lining and and other $20 for complicated buttons.

The material is sent to Shanghai where it is cut and sewn and then sent back to Singapore. To date, I've got 2 made, and will be picking them up on Aug 7th. I'll post my feedback when I get my cheong sam.

hi all,

me have a question, a bit related to this thread, hope someone can help. Do you know where to do alteration if I were to buy an OTR cheong sum? and how much will it be if I alter the waist? Thanks

I collected my cheong sams (2 of them) yesterday from The Shang Hai Silk House. I am very pleased with the workmanship. Xiao Cui was very patient with me as I wanted a more fitting cheong sam and she made the alterations until I was happy my cheong sams.

Although the cheong sam designs at the shop are rather conservative, if you bring her a picture of what you want, she can do that for you too.

Fion,

I am not sure if she can do alterations for you, but you can give her a call (67362579 ) and see if she can do that for you.

hi Softee,

I don't think they have closed (I was there a couple of weeks ago to get my cheongsams altered)

It's Far East Plaza, not Far East Shopping Center. Call: 67362579 and ask for Xiao Cui.

She goes back to Beijing/Shanghai once a month to bring all the completed cheongsams back to Singapore. I think you may have visited the shop when she has gone back to China (she usually goes at the end of the month and comes back early the month after)

Try calling her last this week or early next week (the last time she was away from the 29 July - 7th Aug). If not email me at [email protected] and I'll try to locate her for you.

Hi Gawain,

Yep, I went to Far East Plaza, the one where a lot of youngsters like to hang out rite? Couldn't locate the shop from the directory so I checked with the info counter and was told the shop had closed down oredi..... Are you sure it's not Far East Shopping Centre, the one beside Hilton Hotel?

Cheers

Hi Softee,

Yes it's Far East Plaza, the one where all the youngersters hang out.

It's not listed on the directory because it is a new shop. In fact when I first went, I had to walk around.

It's on the 2nd fl in the lobby nearer to Hyatt. If you stand at the infomation counter by the escalors, the POSB ATM is on the right of the escalator. On the left side, there is a jewellery shop called Huen's Diamonds. From there, you can see the passage way on the right of Huen's Diamond (between the information counter and Huen's Diamonds)leading all the way to the back of Far East Plaza. Just follow that walkway.

The shop is in the middle of that stretch nearer the back of Far East Plaza (also next to a jewellery shop second last in the row on the left). It has lots of cheong sam on display.

Hi Gawain,

Thanks for the directions. Actually I did walk along that passage way the last time I went but maybe I missed it. May I know when was the last time you went? And does the shop has any signboard? Is it just called Shanghai Silk House?

Anyway, will try my luck again and let you know.

Cheers

Hi Softee,

I was just there a couple of weeks ago (I think it was the weekend of 17/18 Aug). I have a friend who is supposed to pick up her cheong sam sometime soon. I'll check with her when she is picking hers up.

Yes, the shop has a sign board - " Shang Hai Silk House". If you look for unit #02-1000 you should be able to find it with no problems.

The best thing to to is to call before you go down to check that Xiao Cui is there. Let me know if you still have problems finding the shop.. or if Xiao Cui is not there. I'll try to get in touch with her for you.

Hi Softee,

My friend went to the shop a few days ago to pick up her cheong sam. The shop is still there.
My friend will be going down to the shop to pick up another one more cheong sam over the next few days.

hi all,

just wondering, if anyone is wearing cheong sum for the 2nd march in? is it weird to wear cheong sum for march in?

and does any one have 3 walks in?? i am thinking of wearing the wedding gown for 1st march in, evening gown second, and cheong sum for third march in or just "sneak in".

hi mickz,
my fren wore a cheongsum for her 2nd march in...i'd guess it shld be alright.

She had 4 changes - WG during reception, kwa during 1st march in, cheongsum for 2nd march in and for the 4th change, she sneaked in in a EG.

i dun think there are any hard and fast rules to follow though my fren had a chinese themed wedding.

hi mickz

I wore a cheongsam for my second march in. At first, I was worried that it might be strange or ugly, but it turned out really nicely, and I am very glad that I decided to wear a cheongsam. I got my cheongsam from Doreen of Le Galleria. It was very sweet and yet glam n different. Go for it! At the same time, I really dun recommend having too many walk ins or change of clothes cos this wastes your time, time that you could better spend with your family and friends, some whom you may not have met for some time....I have placed the links to my wedding photos at the Le Galleria & J&M thread, so if you want to have a look at the cheongsam, you can go there...cheers

Hi Skye,

unfortunately I dun have a digital camera to take a photo of the Cheong Sum by Xiao Cui. If you pop by the shop, she's got some on display. You can check that out..

Real sorry about the lack of a photo.. I just wore it to a dinner and received lots of compliments on it. A friend of mine had one made for her wedding as well. They have hand embriodered one off silks if you like, but a bit pricey.

Yes, I agree with Storm.
Doreen of Le Galleria makes very nice cheongsam. I had mine made there. It's a 2 layer thing - satin long tube dress on the bottom and embroidery organza as the top layer. I wore it for the 2nd half of my wedding dinner and all my guest commented that the cheongsam is more gorgeous than the evening gown.

Hi chimes

Is it possible for me to view your cheongsam? Me also interested in getting one done by Doreen but afraid it will not turn out well.

I do not have a flattering figure so worksmanship is very important to me

My email is [email protected]

Thanks alot for your help
