Hello,

I'm new here. I'm planning our wedding from the UK and was wondering whether anyone has either attended or held their wedding at St. Joseph's on Victoria Street? I used to go to this church when I was still living and working in Singapore, but that was years ago, and I certainly never attended a wedding there. My parents still attend this church which is why I'm looking at this church, but I was wondering if anyone had any comments in relation to decor and choirs and stuff? For instance, can you use other florists or request a choir? The church administrator hasn't mentioned there being a choir at all, so I was wondering.

My wedding is in September 2015, and I've already registered for marriage preparation here in the UK.

Hi all Catholic BTBs!

Has anyone successfully registered for the catholic engagement encounter weekend lately? I went to their website and there is no option for a weekend on the drop down menu. I am hoping to do it in December although my wedding is in July 2016. Any tips?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Veebee 139, we managed to get a nov 2015 CEE slot last month. We emailed them the cheque and application form through snail mail. Did not experience any issues with the dates online though.

Wanted to book earlier (a few mths back) but their website was down. Maybe it is down again so you should do it a try again later...

Anyway the earlier you complete it the better (i feel)! Cause the priest said he can only interview and talk to us after the Holy Matrimony after we complete CEE...

[edit] to add, our wedding is in apr 2016

Hi everyone

We did a soft booking with nativity in Apr 2016 alr, but the secretariat said we do not need to pay any deposit to secure the slot. This is rather unsettling for me. Any nativity BTBs around who can share if this is the common practice pls?

Also, i have a few questions which i am hoping that someone can help me with...

Church decor:
1. Wondering if there will be sufficient time to remove/ put up the decor inside the church if there will be another couple in the earlier timeslot. BC that will leave me with only ~30 min to remove and put up my decor?
Did anyone use their own decor or eeryone just engaged the church florist to do so?

2. What if the floral arrangement at the altar doesn't match my overall floral arrangement and theme (yes im a bit superficial >.<)

Ceremony:
3. I am planning to do my own slides, but i am not sure what will be the content. Where can i get a standard template of the readings/ vows etc so that i can edit and customise the slides pls?

Misc/ logistics:
4. They mentioned that there will be costs if i engage the nativity choir. If so, do we still need to give each choir member an ang pow? If yes, what is the market rate to do so?

5. Is it compulsory for the flower girls to be dressed in white? Also, can the bride's gown have a tinge of other colours or must it be pure white? For example, a big pink flowy ribbon tied across to the back of the gown.

Seeking advice on all questions above...
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi Andes,

I am having my wedding at St. Francis Xavier this Saturday. Hope my sharing below will help you.

1. You need to check with the church office if they will allow you to put up your own decor. I think 30 mins is tight even if you have lots of experienced hands to help unless you are doing something really simple.
2. I requested for the altar flowers to match my overall floral arrangement and paid for the altar flowers as well. I believe you will need to engage the church florist if you want to do that. I got the church florist to do the entire church decor so that makes it easier to coordinate.
3. There is a standard template for wedding mass booklets from the archdiocese which you can download from the homepage or get the soft copy from your celebrant.
4. I believe there is no fixed rate. It really depends on your budget and the number of singers present for your wedding day.
5. I don't think there are hard and fast rules on that but it is always prudent to check with your celebrant.

I just recently booked a slot at SFX so perhaps I could help to answer your queries. They have 2 slots available - either 9am or 12pm. Yes, you can have a lunch buffet at the canteen, but you need to pay $200 to book the canteen.

Thanks joan for the reply. Just another qns - How do I go about the booking? I heard that priority is given to those from the church.

You can email the church directly and ask if the date you want is available, before making a soft booking. The booking will only be confirmed when you head down to their office make the payment. Nope, neither of us are from SFX so I don't think this priority guideline is in place.

Thank for your reply.
I will email the church directly and check with them.
I was planning to have just lunch buffet without any banquet. Do you think SFX canteen able to hold 180pax - 200pax? Do church allow us to have alcohol?

Might be a little tight for the canteen to hold 180 - 200 pax.. I would think 150 pax is just nice. Not too sure if they allow alcohol.. best is to check with them :)

Hi ladies,

I am actually a parish member of nativity. Although I am not having my church wedding there as my fiancé wants aircon.

Anyways back to point, nativity was one of my options initially. So for those who are keen in getting married there; you can speak to father regarding your concern about how everything works like I did, he will give you 3 booklets: 1. For the bride & groom ( planning your wedding) 2.marriage preparation course ( 6 weeks course) 3. Engaged encounter ( weekend ) also the hardest to booked.

For pricing and most q&a, it's in part 1.
If you are unsure of anything else check with the secretary, coz they are in charge. I felt that 1. Booklet Really helped.

Hope this helps.....
Do let me know if I can help you in any other ways.ImageUploadedByForum1434866016.018589.jpg

Hi there, I am not sure if u have made any bookings since u posted.
juz my tots and hope it helps u along.

1. St Joseph's (Vic St) now has air-conditioning which was installed in late 2014.
It says on http://www.catholicsg.info/parish_detail.php?OrganisationID=6
that no weddings are conducted at the church BUT you may try to call Fr Ignatius Yeo (63388554) or email ( [email protected] ) to check if this stance has changed. The other priest there is Rev Fr Andre Christophe, MEP, Tel: 6338 3305

2. if you can have your wedding there, then u may call the chrch secretary Rosey (63383167 or 9488 7829) to settle on the florist and choir.
usual practice is tt florist hav to be from the church's contact. for the choir they are more flexi (where u can get your own or ask the church for the choir that sings at the relevant masses)

I hope this has been useful info for you

Would love to do so (church + lunch banquet) but decided against it in the end.
It is definitely too rushed if you need to go through traditional customs then church then banquet.
For us we booked 11am for holy matrimony and even so, the traditional customs segment will be rather rushed. But this is partly also due to the fact that both families want to have the tea ceremony at the respective houses in the morning. If there is a way for you to work around it, it should still be manageable theoretically.

mine slightly different...we decide to have tea ceremony in the church after the ceremony

but still wonder will it be too rush ...more cost effective to have banquet lunch rather dinner...and won't be so tired till dinner!!

Hi ladies.... I dunno if you can consider mine lunch anot, but I am having my church ceremony then followed by banquet.

The down side is my ceremony starts at 2pm

Hi guys, need some tips about bridal dress code. I was thinking of wearing a slightly low back dress covered with lace. Do you think the priest will object? Maybe I should speak with the parish first before making my gown? I am a July 2016 btb but I haven't booked my church and will be looking around soon.

I think should be ok....
But just check with the parish if it's ok?

Hi Mid0r1, we are hoping to book SVDP for 3 Sep next year.

Do we have to use their inhouse florist or did you use an external one? How were your decorations like and how much did it cost?

Thanks!

Hello ladies!
Where did you guys get the readings from? I went on http://www.catholic.org.sg but couldn't find any.

My wedding is at St Joseph (Victoria Street) in 2 months and work has completely taken up all my time, so much so I haven't gotten a caterer for the lunch reception!

I'm such a mess! haha

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Hi Bubbaboo,
Sorry for the late reply,
I am busy preparing for my wedding already.

Yes, you may outsource your own florist like what we did.

My understanding From my florist is that because SVDP requires a lot of flowers to decorate the church, it can be costly... Expect to pay at least $1k.

I decided to get my own florist because the taste of the ladies in SVDP Is Abit Old.

Have you book a date with Gerad yet?

Let me know if you need more details.

Cheers!!

Hi Charissa, usually the church will give you the e-booklet to print...
Maybe you can check with St. Joesph?

I got the word doc from the parish secretariat... Intending to convert to slides so that I can save the earth a little... Besides, most of the people (who will be) invited wouldnt be Catholics so they wouldn't really know what to do with the booklets after the matrimony anyway...

Thing is, the secretary isn't very friendly and helpful. She even got the dates mixed up when my wedding is just 2 months away

Hi! Yes, I've received it. Thank you very, very much for the help! I must say, looking at some of your hymns helped put my mind at ease. Thanks again!

But for me I did not use hymns.. but the songs dat we usually sing during mass.. I find dat I felt more "emotionally touched" when I listened to songs instead of hymns..

All the best to u in choosing the readings.. n songs.. most importantly it must be meaningful and touches u n ur partners heart..

Oh btw the first reading is from.old testament and 2nd reading is from new testament.. dats wat my priest said dat time.. and better let him.go thru the booklet before u send for printing etc..

Do let me know if u still need help in any area..

Hi Catholic BTBs!

Could anybody provide some advice on scheduling if the service starts at 10am? My church only has two slots at 10am and 2pm.
My HTB and I are thinking of doing both sides tea ceremony at our new place instead of in two separate locations. If gate crashing starts at 7.30 or 8, it should be enough time right? My colleague told me her side's tea ceremony took only 20 mins including photos and there were more than 20 couples!
Everything is within 5 minutes drive but I have a lot of overseas guests so I will need to figure out transportation too!

I liaised with the church florist but the decorations were not really what i have in mind.
Waiting to liaise with my hotel/bridal studio's florists to see if i can have a more cohesive theme.

I actually would love to DIY the church + lunch reception deco, but there are three mass slots on the same day, plus we will be busy with tea ceremony and stuff before church, so i doubt there will be time for us to remove the previous couple's deco and put up our own in time for the ceremony.
