Zenn, I am thinking of staying in a studio apt in Sukhumvit (havent confirm).

Taxi from airport
=================
If you are taking taxi from airport, go to departure hall to take the taxi. No queue, no airport tariff. Insist on meter and I heard there are no jam even if you do not go by highway. My last taxi fare from airport to Pratunam was 161B (with highway tariff borne by ourselves). My coming trip arrives in BKK in late morning, so intend to go by non-highway.

General taxi tips
=================
Before getting into the cab, insist on METER. We were @ MBK doing our last min shopping before we leaving for the airport. The taxi drivers outside MBK approached us to offer 500B, 400B, etc .. However we insist our stand and walk to get the taxi which ran by meter - 251B.

When taking cab, give EXACT fare. Otherwise, the driver may keep the change as his tips.

For those who are going as a group of 5, you can squeeze into 1 cab. I encountered a driver wanted to charge higher during the journey. We paid him by the meter, and gave him loose changes while quickly ran away.

Roadside stalls
===============
Have tried the roadside stalls opp MBK on our last day. Nice and cheap. No 'side-effect' thereafter.

The sandwiches store located beside MBK BTS were nice. We tried all the 5 flavours * 12B each.

Thai Massage
============
I luv thai massage. Paid 350B for 2 hrs @ Fortune City B1.

Day tours
=========
If you are interested in having some day tours, you can go khao San Road (backpackers area, also has cheap thai massages) for good deals.

Christine - Heard from my galfrens that Arnomo also not bad..at least the distance to the nearest BTS is shorter than from Amari Watergate. Arnoma is just direct opp World trade Ctr and besides Gaysorn Shopping Ctr too.....

is it safe to take the taxis from airport ? kinda freaky ? do they hv midnite charge or it is a flat rate ? can any1 advise on this ?

Caicai, if you are worry, you can get a limousine service at the airport which is safer however charges more. Think its about 700 baht for one way.
 
I have 2 $100 round-trip travel vouchers, which I forgot to utilise when I made the flight booking.

Hi Gintonic, my galfren juz went this year to get her wedding favours there too. You can try Chatuchak or Suan Lum Nite market. i also saw a shop selling juz all the wedding stuffs somewhere near Siam Sq but abit pricey lor...you can find the same stuffs in both market but in lower prices.

Gintonic, for wedding favours yup chatuchak there are a few stores price reasonable. As i bought for my friends for wedding this coming Jan 21 as they got no time, a key chain its a XI one sided gold one sided silver comes with a bag around 10Bth each for 1000 pcs cos she and her sister in law friend share in quantity. Suan Lum, patpong and siam sq quite exp and not as much variety in chatachuk, like photo frame of a wedding bride and groom, pen with both the names........too many to describe in chatuchak. Hi Esther, by preparing our own wedding favours, what kind of things can we exchange for with the restuarant/hotel, or will the restuarant/hotel reduce the cost (how much deduction per piece)?

Can you pls share with us a snap shot of the wedding favour u buy? Does the store pack the favours in carton and deliver to your hotel?

no need to book now, u reach then ask the hotel to book also can. i walk in to the sathorn outlet without callin..the main room (350baht) need to wait for 20mins so we top up to 450 baht to use the private room. i love healthland, foot reflex, thai massage, v good n professional!

anyway, can provide the number to call? do you know how much a spa package say a bath and massage like there? the ambience good?

Hi all i get from my friend the XI picture and post it. ribena they don't pack and send to us in hotel cos it is quite light 1 normal plastic bag holds the 1000 keychains and pouch. There is 1 stretch of stalls that sell wedding favours. Many fanciful ones to choose from.

Ribena as for what to exchange with first and foremost u must know what they offer to the diff package. Maybe u can e-mail to me your query and i can share with u in details perhaps......

Hi wxyang, infact in bbk all you do might only be shopping, praying and sightseeing......exchanging our culture and experience their lifestyle. Baiyoke sky is good, the rooms to service to breakfast.......all thumbs up! How many days are u going might want to focus 1 area by another? Need a copy of the map? Cos if we were to list u the places to shop u might not be able to plan it to cover all? I still have 3 maps left u can sms me at 9027 3388 if interested.
 
wxyang> I went bkk in Jan 05, stayed at baiyoke suites. Lots of shops in the same building that sell women clothes. I enjoyed shopping there, but during weekdays. Weekend is hell, cos the patunam mkt packed with ppl n the the car can continue to move....

Christine - think it only open middle of the week to Sundays....base from my exp.

MRC - A fren of mine told me there is bathtub..actually if you want double sure, you can chk with your travel agent since if they do liaise with DMA Pavilion hotel. This Hotel also not bad...near Siam Sq but its situated behind lah....

Aquarius - Wow...leaving next week oredi!!!! Shiok rite! Anyway enjoy your trip!

Gals - another place you can consider to change your $$$ is in Suntec ( opp Watson ). Very good rates too....

For me is the one located at dunno level 6 or 7 of MBK...name is called Fuji something. They have many branches...think there is one at Siam Square. Cannot really remember but confirm have one in MBK.

You staying at which hotel? The Jap food is definitely reasonable! That time we ordered a lot of food (whole table full) for 4 paxs...bill came up to only $50plus.
 
Christine - Think Aquarius have oredi ans your question...actually they have another name call Zen besides Fuji. I bet your hubby gonna love it coz good and cheap somemore.

I've heard a lot about the Oishi Jap Buffet. Heard that Oishi Grand at Siam Discovery is the most ex. There are similar Oishi buffet restaurants but cheaper ... not sure where .... heard they're very good too. Anyone been ?

Lilybub - try the Jap resnt we mentioned above. Its call " Fuji....." located at MBK as well as Siam Ctr. The resnt outside ( Window display ), you will see a lot of bamboo sticks with leaves etc. Certain seats inside require you to take off your shoes wan.
