Hi nookeew, sorry i didn't follow up on your old threads. But r u still on braces or off liao?
No it's not wisdom teeth I've been advised to extract. Mine all fully grown but they dun give probs. I've had them for more than 10 yrs. No decay *touch wood* Clean them well, see dentist regularly.
Alicia, hope I dun interpret wrongly. So do u feel a sense of regret about your situation? U feel now you have taken a risk by not doing the extraction in the beginning?
Actually, your case is similar to mine. Sometimes the dentist wants to play it safe so will try her best to do without extraction. In my case, after several months, she said have to do it. However, the other dentists I visited all told me if it were them, there wouldn't be any doubt about the extraction right from the start. Maybe my OD is trying to help me keep the teeth.
My case is really tricky cos I do not have serious problems like those that u see in the "Before" and After pictures. Extraction thus is not an easy decision for me to make. In fact, if u talk to me face to face now, u might even think my teeth are quite good unless I open my mouth wide enough to show you!
And.. yup, I'm using the Damon.
I don't think they promise it to be painless, but that the treatment is less uncomfortable and it's faster. For me, I never once experienced the things we commonly hear about. No ulcers, minimal discomfort, and I don't have to eat soft foods. I'm really thankful for that. Whether it's the Damon or not, or that I have good pain threshold I really dun know. I think it's a combination.
But I also think the orthodontist must be skilled to trust and know how to use Damon. I've beard of a dentist who personally claimed Damon is not much different from metal braces in terms of treatment even though his clinic offers it. I wouldn't go to him if I want Damon. You should find someone who is skilled or at least believes in the system.
