hey ladies, we r quite clueless in shortlisting VGs. Apart from the cost (since we hv a budget), what else should we look out for in a VG? What r the questions / things we shld ask n look out for when we meet these VGs?

Haha i guess ur family is very traditional. The things you named in your GDL and AD, all like i never do even though i am also hokkien. I guess i am the laziest bride on earth.

lirong.. i c.. so you din calculate the date for your customary.. good loh.. this 24 oct is both our fav nos.. 10 his fav..24 my fav.. we cant get our fav no for our ROM due to his mom n sister interferences..so we all the way wan a date we want for our AD.. although ROm is more impt in term of anniversary .. anyway better then no fav dates at all.. got let the FSM count 24 oct to let his mom n sis fan xin .. and luckily it is good for urs..

hey Vallous,

I am supposed to sew the paper coins with the word yuan on it (they call it da yuan (for big coins), xiao yuan (for small coins)). It's to have yuan fen (fate) with the in-laws' family. The GDL shop person said she always advise for the mother and daughter to do this on all items of their dowry cos' she said my mum won't want to know that I am not being well treated by my in-laws family.

desjO... ya man, the cab fare in Singapore is a killer. How I wish I am living in Bangkok... Haha.

For the fixed ones e.g. gatecrash, PG, MUA, brothers, driver, emcee, flower girls and page boys & open car door, I've calculated about $500. Then, of course will prepare for those tea ceremony for kids/cousins and some other miscellenous ones.

How much are you all giving for gatecrash? Considering that we already give gatecrash ang pow, are u all giving any more to ur jie meis? Who's buying gifts for them instead of giving ang pow?

Yah i also got the same question of how much to give for gatecrashing ang bao...

the last few times i'm jie mei, the bride and groom only give the gate crashing ang bao... but both sides parents will give... but they did treat us out to a simple dinner affair after that as a thank you though...

do we need to give ang bao to the PG and MUA? since they are already paid?

I giving $188 for gatecrash and then another $8 angbaos each for the jiemeis for their extra help. XiongDis will get $12 each instead. Cos i have 8 jiemeis and XiongDis each.

Both side of the parents also will be giving them Ang Baos.

I will be giving Angbaos to the PG, MUA and also VG. $8 each also. Just a lucky meaning for them.

Will be treating all the helpers to a nice dinner most probably after CNY cos Jan mostly i not in Singapore.

Total Angbao for AD will be total from $550 onwards. Prepare more in case alot of kids turn up for the morning session.

Hmm... parents also must give jie meis and xiong dis? I didn't know about it.

the last times i was jiemei, we split the gatecrash angpow(ranges from ~10-50/pax), and both sides parents gave us angpows (means additional 2). But no additional angpow from the couple.

The couples also gave the service providers (even if they paid for service)...coz like mrs ang said...its for luck one, just a small amt will do.

yeah, all the service providers - I will be giving $8 for luck only. I think they will understand too, as we already paid quite a hefty sum for their service.

Ok lah, i got 3 jiemeis... so 188 divide by 3 is like 60 each. So hai hao. For brothers, we giving lesser haha. My hubby say give yi si jiu hao. He gave so much to jiemeis cos he scared they don't want open door. He so cute!

hmm, i can only know the timing for the AD and my "an chuang" next year,
like 3 to 5 months before the actual date...
that is what my mother-in-law told me...
guess at the moment, couldn't do much though...
but really hope can find a flat soon...

Can decide on the month to go so won't end up delaying and delaying!! But also gotta consider family planning..

Early this year I went on a trip, there's this couple in the tour group who's on late HM.. but the girl was pregnant.. then she keep vomitting.. seems quite uncomfy to me to be travelling in that condition.

Pebbles>> actually I was thinking of payments yesterday.. Like if I go for a 3 week HM immediately after wedding, then then credit card bill for the dinner will be due when we are away. Dunno if can ask for extension from the bank, or ask them to bill us later

smurfz: eh can bill later meh? i thought their credit dept rolls out billing on a standard date every month. u can try n ask.. if not can ask someone to check and make payment on ur behalf first.. but abit troublesome la..

akino: i also want to go switz... my parents went on europe tour for their HM so many yrs ago n my mum is still raving abt switz. but sigh.. no money la..

kervin, actually my parents dont quite like 24th Oct..but i told her we booked liao..so they bo bianz! the dates that they gave me are all taken up liao..

so i thought it's better that we stick to our original date rather than to ask them to give me more dates that they want..cos we die die want a Sat..

hi paradise,

let me tell u wat to be wary of, for VG. and let the rest of our fellow btb tell u wat to look out for. hee..

some VG claim they have taken alot of video, but they only show u 2 or 3 of the sample. -- his work might not be consistant, thats why he dun dare to show more. u will know his work style and standard by looking thru his portfolio (some have blog their video)

ask him how many client he took a month. if he take too many, how long he will take to finish his editing and give u your product in time? if he then claim he can give it to u in 2 3 weeks, he might rush his work out and the final product will not be good (like mass production).

try to talk to the VG himself, to know his style. instead of their sales personel who is excellent in sales talk. (they might earn commission from clinch deal)

some VG present their disc in just CD sleeve, while some did theirs very professionally like personalise disc print in hardcover box.

ultimately, u must like him in person, like his style of work and trust him. I have a friend who's AD video turn out to be a disaster e.g express highlight spelling wrong, VG absent sent a amateur to stand in, didn't deliver on time etc.

went for house hunting last weekend. saw 3 units but din like. needs lotsa patience here.

also went to see see look look again for wedding bands. went to celestial speciality shop. actually prefer an eternity ring but not practical.

des&amp;jol: so many pointers!! i better take note. OMG.. so sorry to hear abt ur friend's case. i guess sometimes oso is really heng suay. jus like some things we based it on gut feel but sometimes our gut feel oso can play us out. :p

some PG also ... some we met ... dun wanna show us more than 2 set of their photos leh. got one PG, i contact... wanna meet up to see more of his works, he ask me to see on FB. he says he upload everything there. still... who knows if those pics are really his leh?

ur pointers are really helpful! tks a bunch!!

humm.. buay tahan. i've gone thru so many PG/VG website n all so ex. lei. video all over 1k. haiz... i'm afraid to meet them. i'm afraid if i meet them then i dont know how to reject them. if i reject them i feel alittle paiseh. come all the way to meet me then didnt book with him..

i've met up with two and rejected them. felt pai seh initially, but it is still considered business. and since i don't know them personally (got contacts online), it's okay. unless it's close friend then not so nice...

hi all,

my total angbao also comes up to $600. Gate crash set at $188. I be giving jiemei angbaos. Parents not giving. Plus i do give small token of gifts for AD. I also giving them a treat on my hen party night. I think its more than enuf.

I be providing for PG and MUA angbaos also. Cousins that help out will also give. Prepare a big angbao for our younger siblings when they serve us tea lor.

paradise: I guess many of us share same thought. I too find it difficult looking for VG. PG is much easier and straight forward. Had shorlisted PG pending discussion.

des&amp;jol: Thanks for the advise. Seen quite a number of video too. But those good one are really beyond budget. Trying to look for one around 1k. Those samples I saw (below 1.2k) are so so only, some even below expectation. Like what you suggested to view more of their works but the problem is most of their website only have few sample. If you have any VG in mind do share with me.

hi ladies, im having animation with mojoideas. it is a packages which include, AD PG, VG, montage, express highlight, animation &amp; etc..

me &amp; HTB is planning to go for our HM 1 day aft our AD (wanna keep the wedding mood together with the trip).

now still planning either to switzerland or hokkaido. hopfully aft all hse reno &amp; wedding can still proceed with plan.. :p

its always not easy to shortlist. for me i use my VG alias. as they work wif each other alot of times liao so will hv mo qi le. knw each other style.

i scare to get VG n PG cannot work together de. also a prob. heard some cases fr my VG liao.. so abit scare. haha...

in fact i din really went for viewing due to the festive season...tot only after cny as the mkt will then be more or less stabilise...
