Hi twt, thanks a million for your speedy & very clear advices! I got all that you are trying to tell me liao...

I hope to get brandt 1018A at around $1k cos my htb has raised our washer budget from 800 to 900 then to 1000. I can't raise the budget anymore...

If I can't get brandt then I have no choice but to stick to Bosch WAE18161 or WAE 20360 cos both are within budget. =(

Hi twt & ridz,

I went to Harvey Norman today & the salegirl mentioned that Bosch has a feature - "Speed Perfect" that can do a full wash within just an hour!

She did the demo there & then to show me. When we select cotton 60 degrees wash, original timing is 2.5 hrs... But when she told me to press the "speed perfect" button, the wash time becomes 1hr! I think that's very amazing!

Any idea if this feature can be used for full load & every wash?

The speed perfect mode is a feature meant to speed up the washing process. As a result, the wash load is reduced to half the load as best.

Isnt it obvious that she is avoiding the fact that it is a half load wash??

Remember this fact that if she can mention to you that there is a fast wash mode which means that she does know the fact that this is a half load thingy.

Can you imagine if you do not know about this fact and you do this in your everyday wash.... Your machine would definitely break down faster and your washing ability is never as clean as the normal wash.

Sales person nowadays are really smart but their attitude towards explaining the usage of the machine left much to be desired.

I wolud rsather you spend a bit more(perhaps 1 or 200) rather then save it up now and regret it after a yr or 2.

Gd luck in your choice of machine.

sidetrack abit.

got a question, regarding washing powder for my thomson topload. Recently i bought a box of persil powdered detergent.

looking at the instructions, it says 4/5th cup for 4-5kg washer. does it mean the cup given inside the box (its the size of a disposable party cup). That's about 6 scoops of my previous detergent.

Isn't this abit too much powder? anyone using persil?

actually for the speed perfect is meant for the load as stipulated for the respective washing modes. e.g. cotton would be maximum load. but speed perfect is meant for less soiled items.

Ridz....

According to the menu for the bosch machines, speed perfect indicates only HALF LOAD.

You can actually download the instruction menu from internet to view.

That is why all the latest BOSCH machines does not come with the half load/quick wash function anymore.

what i meant was if you want to wash full load it would be on condition that its all lightly soiled to use the speed perfect.

But to have same efficiency of wash (as compared to the full cycle) in a shorter time then yes, its reduced load recommended.

i do feel the construction of the drum is still important. and metal is so far to me better. though plastic ones they redesigned the paddle surface. still in the work.

as for consumption wise. Brandt is 59 litres of water. but its 125mins at 1.36kwh.

OptiA45 is meant also for half load 4.5kg . values for the optiA45 is not posted maybe those with brandt can refer to the manual?

and as for bosch yes water wise if its lower if you use the eco perfect but the down side is cos of its longer washing time the electricity would be higher.

E.g. standard full load would be 60 litres 1.33kwh and 159 mins.
Eco perfect full load would be 49 litres 1.05kwh but longer time 188 mins.

Hey ridz & twt, thanks alot for all the advice! I just called Bosch technical support to clarify if speed perfect can be used for full load & if it is for lighly or normal soiled clothes.

I must say that I am very impressed with the technical support staff cos she is very knowledgeable, helpful & polite.

She confirmed that the speed perfect function is capable of 60% reduction in washing time for full load & normal soiled clothes. She said even heavy soiled also can but best is normal soiled. But she did indicate that the electricity used may not be much lesser than the normal 2.5hrs wash even though it is shorter time. She explained alot about the machine, drum, etc. & provided lots of useful information but I'm really not good at remembering everything she told me.

She even checked through the company's internal training manuel to see if there is any indication of the electricity consumption once speed perfect is used. She can't find the answer to my enquiry abt exact electricity consumption assuming full load cotton at 40C with speed perfect feature.

However, she took down my contact & promised to get their product manager to call me back once they have the answer. Actually she explained alot abt the eco function too. What I remembered is even though that is longer washing time, the electricity consumed is not high. She gave me some examples & etc but I forgot liao... Haha!

Overall, I'm already very bought over by the technical support staff liao... Oops... I may call Brandt tomorrow if I have any enquiries.

Ridz,

This is a common problem faced by us, forummers.

The lucky/fortunate part is that all forummers get to benefit from our sharing of experience thru handling of different machines.

I would still prefer a plastic cradle rather then a metal cradle as i feel that there is no gripping for a metal cradle....

Endless but friendly debate. CHEERS!

Haha yeah cos sales person always tell half truth and thus painting an incomplete and unfair picture for personal gains and forumers become guinea pig haha

Hi

Just to share, I am currently using a Bosch Maxx Classic. The model no is WAE20260 and I've attached a photo of it from the Bosch Singapore website. I've been using it for the last 2 yrs.

So far, for our clothing, which includes sweaty clothes from the gym, we use the Easy Care - Intensive cycle which takes about 1hr 22 min (with Rinse Plus). It washes at 40oC and spins at 800rpm. You can choose higher temp if you want to, but that works for us. Our clothes are hung on bamboo poles indoors at the balcony and they are hung out in the afternoon and dry by the next afternoon. I have never used anything more than 800rpm to spin my clothes.

For delicate clothing (esp my blouses, I just hand wash them).

Some tips for washing and drying your clothes:
- Do not stuff the machine full with clothes. The maximum amt of clothes I put into the machine (when the clothes are dry) is that the machine drum should not be more than 3/4 full. If you overstuff the machine, the clothes can't wash properly and it will not be clean, no matter what washing machine you use.
- Get a suitable detergent. Some detergents are too bubbly while others don't work well for some washing machines. I find that the Orange coloured liquid Dynamo detergent works very well with my Bosch front loader.
- Make sure you have sufficient space to hang your clothing, otherwise if the clothes are hung too closely together, they won't dry properly and they will have a funky odour.

If you have seriously soiled (and smelly) clothes, get this detergent call Napisan. Put a bit of it in a pail, soak the clothing in there overnight and then the next day, put it into the washing machine with all the other clothing. The smelly clothing will have no traces of odour. I did that for my hubby's sleeping clothes which started smelling of him :D You can buy Napisan from selected NTUC Unity stores (not all of them carry it).

This is the Napisan if you are interested.

IMHO, dryers are the ones that take up a huge amount of electricity.

Hope this helps!

Hi twt, I have just put in an order to buy the Borsch 18161. If this is no good, and budget can be up to 1.5k, what would you recommend to get? I need to have the hot water function, which I understand from the salesman Electrolux EWF1074 does not have. Load of 7kg. 1074 is said to be better cos of the plastic drum.

apple,

EWF 1074 has hot wash... the salesman is very irreponsible. If you are looking at electrolux i would suggest that you take the ITALY model by electrolux, EWN 14991.

If not, perhaps you can go for WFK 1018 which is suppose to be at $1299.

Where did you purchase the machine from?

Hi all,

anyone has any experience or feedback about Electolux model EWF 8555? There's a promotion going on at courts, seems good but I am not sure if its good and lasting.

Hi all, I finally decided on my washer!

I bought Bosch WAE 24360SG at Harvey Norman Warehouse sales @ $999 only!!! I must say that it is very good price & it's a machine that's much better than what I was looking for all along at my $1k budget...

Dear all, I have just moved into my new house! Have tried using the Bosch WAE24360SG twice. It is fantastic!!! Bosch's service is great cos they sent a staff to teach me how to use the machine!

This is my 1st time using front load machine & I am super impressed! My clothes come out very clean! And this model Bosch is really superb cos water usage is very very low! My husband who has been using front load machine all along (in his own house) is also impressed by our Bosch WAE 24360SG cos clothes come out very clean, very dry & super water efficient!

But I am very puzzled... I used the super low suds washing powder by TOP. The first time I forgot to read the recommended amount of powder so I just put 3/4 scoop for 2-3kg of clothes & there wasn't much foam. 2nd time washing, I saw the recommended amount for 2-3kg of clothes which was abt 1 & 1/2 scoop & I did that but I could see alot of foam!!!

I'm not sure if I used too much. Need advice... Pls help. =(

Hi Jasmine,
May I know if the offer for Bosch WAE 24360SG at Harvey Norman Warehouse sales @ $999 is still available? Which HN did you buy it from?

Thanks.

hi jasmine,

i have never used top super low suds. but definitely you should not be able to see suds when you are washing. if you ever open up the washer half way to add clothes or to check if you have placed enough soap. you should check out that the water should be soapy to touch but not too soapy. there should just a think film of bubble or so called but not like a lot of foaming.

foaming then its too much.

its hard to gauge.. cos different detergent brands have different formulation and thus different dosage.

anyone else using top?

hi irene, that price was only at HN warehouse sales at their warehouse at Jurong Tuas there... The sale only 2 days & ended liao...

Now, they are selling $1299 with 5 yrs warranty. I think it's quite a good buy too! u can consider & it's available at all HN.

hi ridz, i think i'm doomed cos i really dunno how much to put for the top washing pdwr. i tried a bit lesser but it is still foamy. i scared put too little & clothes not clean.

I tried putting a bit lesser but it was still foamy! sianz!

yup 999 for that price at the warehouse sale. not sure if there was any extended warranty.

BUt for the 1299 with the 5 year in. Its a good buy, should grab at least you can dont worry for 5 years. its covered mah.

Jasmine,

Im not sure how big is the scoop for TOP. is it like those plastic cups? or like those small scoops like dynamo?

maybe if you are not too sure perhaps just change the soap? COs its a dear price if all things go haywire esp the rubber gasket. and more disastrous if the foam seeps into the controls.

but try calling them if they have any experience on handling the TOP washing detergents?

my washing machine just broke down after 10 yrs of regular usage. HAve to get a new one soon ..

anyone has comments on the Elba brand, in particular EWF 1071N ?

No, my friend just got this brand a few months back...seems pretty reasonable price at abt $650 front load for 7kg..but no mention of this brand..here ..

i see..

well its not a common one and reliability is thus a ....... can fill in the blanks.

The few reputable ones are Bosch, Electrolux and Brandt of course all with the appropriate after sales service that is available easily.

Any guidelines on the budget and needs? then others might be able to help along as well?

Ok..currently using a 5kg (i think) front load continental..think is candy brand..

Looking for larger capacity of 7 kg front load...budget perhaps about $700 - $800, at most $900. find the current 1 and a hours washing cycle really a pain..Any recommendations?

any wash cycles that is a must to be included? and spin speed? variable spin speed? Max spin speed you looking at?

THese affect the price.

And of course there is no running away from 1.5 hours of washing thats for sure.

actually, I myself not too sure about spin speed and variable spin speed..and wash cycle..

usually if i feel the clothes are more soiled than usual..I just turn to higher temp and longer time cycle. that's all..haha think I quite easy to convince if go to those salesman at HN or Best cos don't have very much basic knowledge on washing machines.

Belladona, when I was looking ard for new washer, I remembered looking at Elba & a few salesmen told me not to get that. They mentioned that if I want to get that, they rather I buy top loads such as Samsung & LG. They say even the top loads can last me longer & do a much better job.

One even mentioned that he had complaints after selling to customer so in the end, even though his company carry it, he try hard not to recommend cos scared customer return to scold him... Haha!

jasmine..thanks for your comments! ..will start doing some browsing at the major electronics shop first.to look at the different brands/models

Hi jasmine, I'm also interested in the Bosch washer you got. What is the duration for one wash? I understand from earlier posts that the duration could be longer than 2 hours? But when I was at Harvey Norman, the salesperson showed me the time taken is slightly over an hour and this was reflected on the timer.

Actually, the wash time is not very long cos I only used 4 options...

Mix load @ 1200rpm & 40 degrees - 1hr 3mins

Easy-Care @ 800rpm & 40 degrees - 1hr 17mins

Easy-Care @ 800rpm & 60 degrees - 1hr 35mins

Superquick - 15mins (used this to clean brand new clothes slightly before wearing or refresh clothes that were in wardrode for too long)

For top 3 options, I can adjust the rpm depending on whether I wanna use the dryer after that.

There are only 2 person at home so very seldom on full load & I do my laundry as & when I like. I don't have very soiled clothes, therefore, nvr do pre-wash or cotton wash (2hrs+) before. The 3 options already made my clothes very clean liao... Anyway, u can always use speed perfect to reduce washing time but try not to use it so often cos it doesn't really help much in saving water or electricity even though it takes off up to 60% of washing time for some options!

Something which I like to highlight is that bosch really uses very little water! I think it's a good buy but I have not used brandt before. =) I used top load before & my conclusion is top loads are not clean & uses alot of water!!!

Helping mom to get a washing machine.

She wants a top loader (cos she's getting old).

A big capacity like 8kg is good (not sure if this is available for top loader).

Best to have an energy and water saving unit.

Lastly, cheap and good.

Any recommendation?

is any1 using thomson top load washer? The lid cover near the hinges has turn rusty!! i've only used it for slightly more than a year. i thot washer r supposed to be made of anti-rust material. Am really disappointed with thomson washer :<

Hello!! i am in the midst of renovating my house and would like to get a washing machine...looks like Bosch is very highly recommended here. I need one which can wash king size comforter. Do I need a 8kg or 9kg for it?

Is it true that metal hinges are better than plastic ones (which will break very easily)?

Any models to recommend?
happy.gif

hmm can someone help? am thinking of getting the machine this sunday. Anyway, I wont be using a comforter after, just need to wash the king size quilt cover.. What do u all think of Bosch WAS24444ME?

hi,
I bought a Brandt 8kg front load washing machine WFK1248A, thought it suppose to be consider one of the highends machine but it turns out to be worst. Spinning sound is super noise can even be heard a outside the house. now after using for 6 months cracking noise during water intake can also be heard. Call up Brandt and technicion said its normal. they even lied that this model the spinning sound will be lesser or even very quiet after months of using but it does not but only louder. Can't do exchange nor refund Now i am stuck with it on top of that paying a price of $1200 for such machine! Any advise from anyone?

Hi Jasmine,
Just curious to know your WAE24360SG got dryer function? Coz i see the product description on their website they categorise it as washer and no mention about dryer....
