The Straits Room @ The Fullerton

sleepskies, if you can accept alternative dates or yours is not a popular date then prolly you can wait for their wedding show.

for my case, i must want the date so i dun wan risk waiting for the bridal show and ends up my date no longer available

no news on the bridal show from my coordinator too but last yr was held in Oct, i heard.

Hi,

I really loved the Straits Room but my estimated guest size (ard 160 pax) exceeds its capacity.

Anyone here has the experience/intends to hold their reception over 2 days at the Straits Room??

Not sure it will be worth the effort and energy to spread the reception over 2 days just becoz of the venue...Any advice??

Kristine - Thanks for sharing. I would want to confirm with Fullerton asap too but still undecided on the hotel (seeing that I have to spread the reception over 2 days if I stick with Fullerton). So have you confirmed with Fullerton already?

Congrats Kristine! That must be exciting and something to look forward to.

I went hotels viewing (Four Seasons, Regent, Marina Mandarin & Mandarin Oriental) last Sunday but my bf and I still loved Fullerton. hehe. It is really in a class of its own. Now, I just need to be 100% convinced that I am alright with spreading my wedding reception over 2 days. Once I get past this 'mental block', I will confirm with Fullerton.

Am also considering to bring my parents down to view the place..hehe

Hi,

The Straits Room is lovely, especially if you intend to have a cosy wedding...

Need ideas & advises for colour theme for The Straits Room...E.g. Flowers colours, linen & seat covers colour etc etc... Can anyone share her ideas / pictures of their dinner held @ The Straits Room? Am concerned that The Straits Room will look very washed out since it is totally white... Any advise?

Thanks!

Hi Beagle,

Saw your post in the other thread as well. My AD is next year but I do understand from my coordinator that they have over 25 different colours and designs for the table linens/seat covers. So the room will not be totally white..it all depends on what colours you choose for your banquet.

Hi,

Did anyone know whether we have to pay extra for the seat covers and flower decoration for this? Also did anyone know that the room max capacity of 12 tables means we can't have a march in carpet in the middle of the room?
I really really intend to have my wedding there next year

Many Thanks!

hi ying, eldric and hazey
i had my wedding in jan 2010 and these are some photos. I always wanted a day time affair, so i had a wedding lunch and all the colours were light and soft.

I ordered some cupcakes and put in the buffet spread. The colours of the flowers, linens, table linens etc can be arranged and coordinated based on your theme and hotel's availability.

Have fun

Here are some other details:
Min 8 tables, Max 12 tables
(Min 8 Max 10 for buffet)

Hi everyone,

May I know what's the email address to their wedding banquet team, can't seem to find it on their website. Wedding coordinator's email also can, thanks! =D

Hello all,

Just trying my luck here. Has anybody made a tentative booking for Straits Room at Fullerton for 8th January 2011?

Thanks

Hi everyone,

I am considering having my wedding banquet at the Strait Room and solemnization at the East Garden. I have went down twice to check out the site. Really love the Victorian kind of architecture.

I have enquired the packages. The package for Strait Room is much more expensive than that at Grand Ballroom. Here's the price for weekend dinner package per table for 2011 wedding:

*Grand Ballroom
1) Normal package(Heritage Menu)-->$1,168++ ($1,375 nett)
2) Premium package (Palladian Menu: with Suckling pig and better dishes) --> $1,268 ++ ($1,493 nett)

*Strait Room - $1,388 ++ ($1,634 nett)

The dishes served at Strait Room is the normal one (Heritage package) which cost $1,168++ if u have it at the Grand Ballroom. I feel that it is not very fair. But I really love the Strait Rooms. Don't know why must pay a premium for having it there.

And the East Garden solemnization rental is $1,500++ without food.

Did you guys manage to bargain for a lot of perks? Can share with me how you bargain and what you bargain for? I am quite bad at bargaining. =(

Many thanks!

Hey Nic,

Yes, you are right in that Straits Room cost more than the Grand Ballroom. It's really unfair, heh. But I suppose that is economies of scale for you!

Straits Room is more than just having a nice ambience about it.. it's just about right for a smallish wedding, it's beautiful (wayyy more beautiful than the ballroom downstairs!), and it has a real history.

I don't think hotels allow bargaining of the price. It's fixed. What you can bargain for is for more perks thrown in. But it really depends on hotels. And yes, I am getting the $1388++/10 people for Straits Room!

Hi DL,

Have you booked the place? Who is the person u liaise with? I have been contacting Priscilia.

Can share with me what perks u have bargained for?

Hi BTB,

After viewing so many hotels, my finance and I have finally decided to hold our wedding banquet and soleminsation at Fullerton.

We will be having dinner banquet at the Straits Room and soleminsation at the East Garden.

We tried bargaining for more perks with our wedding coordinator but seems like its hard to get more perks. For example, there is no free barrel of beer or free flow of beer. Each glass has to be purchased at $14.50 before GST and service charge. This is quite expensive.

Have anymore managed to bargain for more perks?? Who is your coordinator? Please share with me.

Thank you! =)

Hi Nic,

I have signed up for the Straits room as well. My coordinator is Ignatius. Ya have to agree with you, they do not give much perks. I will be serving wine only, and managed to bring down the corkage to $20++. WHat other perks have you asked from them?

Hi Lynnette,

I have asked for 2 nights stay but got rejected. =(

Did you manage to get 2 nights?

I also asked for foc usage or lower rental for the East Garden for my soleminsation but she mentioned that $1500++ is already a special rate.

How is your coordinator? Is he good?

Are you going to have your soleminsation and cocktail at the roof garden?

I am actually planning to have mine both at the East Garden since i am paying $1500++ for the rental so might as well make full use of it but Priscilia suggested the cocktail to be held at the roof garden instead. I am still thinking about it.

Hi Nic,

Its the same. I guess they are really strict in giving out extra perks. Ya, I will be doing my solemnization in Straits room or the roof garden as my wedding is in Nov (monsoon season). If you want, you can use the $1500 to decorate the roof garden for a nicer ambience for solemnization. =)

Mine is a wedding lunch. So the perks are worse. I'm given a esplanade room. I tried bargaining for an extra night or an upgrade to bridal suite but was rejected. Was a little peeved about it as we paid extra just for an additional dish to the menu (HTB is a hongkonger and apparently 7 courses is served in funerals). To upgrade to a bridal suit I will need to top-up about 800++, still toying with the idea though..

THe other perks they gave were like the standard. Increase free parking coupons and invitations. =(

Ignatius is fine and very professional. He did explained that the perks they can't give it freely as whatever is written in a contract needs the final approval from their manager. Priscilia's not good?

Hi Lynn,

I got one night stay at the Loft room. Is that bridal suite?

How much did you pay for lunch per table?

My wedding is on 22 Oct 2011 which is very near to Nov! I am also worried about the raining issue but I really love to have an outdoor soleminsation.

The roof garden is nice too but there is one big round table in the center so the soleminsation table will have to be by the side. I actually asked Priscilia whether the round table can be removed but she said that it is rooted and also some Feng Shui issue so can't.

I forgot to ask for an increase of free parking coupons and invitation. Must ask her for that before I sign contract with her in a few days time. How many % did you increase to?

Priscilia is friendly and nice but just abit blur blur.

The good thing about fullerton is that the waiter to table ratio is 1:1. But Priscilia told me that the waiter will serve the food to everyone. I think some of my relatives would prefer to take the food themselves.

Have you heard any feedback about the food? As the Jade restaurant is on level 1 and Strait room on level 4, the food will have to travel a certain distance. I am quite worried that it will not be hot enough when served.

Btw, I think instead of topping up $800 for another night of stay, why not use that money somewhere else. For example, a longer honeymoon?

I am planning to have 2 honeymoon. One short one right after my wedding to somewhere near like phuket or Bali and another long long one the following year to Europe. Cos I don't have enough leave....

for those having their wedding at the straits room, how many free bottles wine corkage did u all manage to get? can bargain for more?

Yes, the loft room is the bridal suite. THe thing is i am planning to do the gatecrashing in the hotel, so a loft suite would be better. decisions, decisions...

hmmm with the extra item its about 1280. Well comparatively its cheaper than dinner but it still cost more compared to the normal ballroom and not get a loft suite. oh well, economies of scale.

ya! i wanted a outdoor wedding as well. initially was thinking of amara santuancy or raffles hotel, but my wedding is at the later part of Nov so better not risk it. that's how the straits room came about, at least there's daylight passing through the glass roof and windows.

I have increased both by 10%.

Oh. So does it mean they will distribute the food individually and the flower centerpieces will remain on the table throughout?

The feedback on the food is pretty mixed. Some say its good but most say its not. So fingers crossed on that.

Hmmm.. I have not thought about honeymoon. But its a good idea though! The proposal was like last month and was so busy booking the AD stuff. Oh I think its fine, since your wedding is in Oct, few months later you can go for another honeymoon. Shiokness!

Nic, I believe it's not easy to get perks from Fullerton, and with most uppity hotels. As someone else here mentioned, if they offer you perks that are generous, shouldn't they also extend these perks to other couples too? Otherwise, it would be really unfair.

I admit that the price for the Straits Room package is rather expensive, but I believe it's worth it..

Good luck with your wedding! Once mine is over, I'll post my thoughts.

p/s - Priscilia has been great so far. She has been very patient with my 1001 questions via email.

Miracles: Each table will have 1 complimentary wine and I managed to get waiver of 6 corkages for wine or hard liquor. I think it depends on whether your wedding is lunch or dinner.

Lynn: I have managed to increase my car park coupon to 30% and Invitation to 70%. Also I have requested for early and late check out of bridal suite by Priscilia said she will try her best but it is subject to availability.

I think the center piece will still be removed. From what Priscilia told me, they will place the food in the center and the waiter will serve each guest. As for the 2 VIP tables, center-piece will stay as each VIP guest's food will be apportioned before serving. I guess you can discuss with your coordinator about the arrangement.

I realised that I have to play music from original CD during the banquet. I didn't know that previously! Another alternative is to get a license at a few hundred bucks to play the play. This will add to my cost!

DL: I agree that Priscilia is really nice and patient. When is your wedding? Did you top up on the flowers? Priscilia sent me the designs on the floral. They are nice (more of pink and red) but not the colour I am looking for.

Nic,

You have 1 complimentary wine per tbl? I have none, only 8 bottles of corkage waiver. =( Gosh I have signed on the papers I think its too late to negotiate. the complimentary wine is written in the menu list or you managed to request for it?

Yes! that's why I thinking should I just get a wedding band instead of paying the the license fee but of course that will cost more..

Lynn,
I believe all packages at Fullerton have a complimentary wine (either red or white) per 10 people/per table. It's not on the menu list but it's in the list of things under wedding package. The 8 bottles of corkage waive is an extra perk.

Hmm I did'nt know about the songs situation. I'll have to speak to Priscilia about it. I have yet to finalise flowers, etc, so can't comment on it yet!

Hi Lynn,

The complimentary wine per table is stated in the contract. Yours is not inside? I think everyone should have that. Maybe you try to double check with your coordinator as the complimentary wine is stated in the wedding package also.

I love the idea of wedding band such as those Jazz band or some nice orchestra but will be expensive. Also in the contract, it states that all live music has to end at 10 pm so it might not be worth to engage a band just for a few hours.

Hi everyone,

thanks for your help! I have checked with him. Apparently complimentary wine is only for dinners. Mine is a wedding lunch so it's not included. Bummer..

DL, how many months before the wedding did you get in touch with the florist on the arrangements?

OK I met up with Priscilia recently, and yes, have to use original CDs for music. I've already wanted to engage a band (and have already done so), but a band does not play for three hours non-stop! Most bands play in sets, and they need breaks, so when they are not singing/playing, you will need to play background music.

Nic: I checked with Priscilia, and she didn't say anything about having the music to end by 10pm!

DL - my wedding is less than a month away.. and I only just called Cecilia (of the florist that Fullerton Hotel works with) this morning! Ha! I will be meeting her this Friday. Is there any point meeting up with the florist so early?!

i'm thinking of holding my dinner here.... really love it but it's on the expensive side.

what other perks can i negotiate for?
