no lah, never crossed swords... he's doing a generic copy & paste. the whole content doesn't apply to the thread. basically the article is an extremist view of protecting a marriage (but forgets the nurturing part)... sorta requires u to live in solitude with spouse. i normally ignore these views... they actually irritate and offend non-christians and even christians... more than they spread a good message.

its kinda lending money to GOVT so the last person to default you is Govt so its relatively safe but then LOW Risk usually equate Low return.

so far in history only Russia owed ppl money and never return and defaulted on the bonds. 1997-1998. i don think Sg will follow its way.

actually i correct myself... it's unlikely an article nor a credible writeup given the poor construction of sentences, lack of commas, apostrophe etc. and of cos, Christian articles are unlikely to contain any modern profanity... here's a tell-tale excerpt...

wow... so much activity after my last post.
dog's looooong post was initially directed to me. So i think i will give some opinions here as well.
i am not a christian, but i respect the religion. Firstly, i dun think dog even understands the underlying meaning and purpose of a the religion he/she believes in.
secondly, any decent and upright person, who upholds the morality and principles of his/her religion, will never go around condemning others in such a way. you believe in god, but you are not god.
thirdly, we dont know what went on between you and powder, but i really think that if you have an issue with him, settle it with him privately.
other people do not need such influence from you to change their perception or judgement of him or anybody.
as we know, public forums are meant for sharing of ideas, be it good or bad. i think one should be mature enough to be able to discern what is good advice or what is detrimental. we are free to give opinions, and we are also free to choose to listen.
you may think you are not wrong in stepping into this post and blasting people off. you may think that powder was wrong in whatever experiences and comments he gave. but there are tens of people here who think you are wrong as well. have you ever thought that whatever you said might destroy a family cos of your beliefs?

i took a look at the website... it lacks Credibility. it's established on Feb 2007 and calls itself "Singapore's No.1 Popular Christians Chat Forum Website &amp; Resource". it's "managed under licence by Anderson Internet Advertising (Reg No : 52945193W), a licensed business entity". the articles have no author nor credible reference to it (it can be written by ANYONE, especially the language and the use of "bullshit" which is really suspect). it declares that it is "purely an impartial online Christians platform and not related to any churches or denominations or any government bodies." so it's not backed by any authority, but more of an online portal for christians.

i do not discredit the website, i just wanna point out that THAT particular article has no credible reference. isit written by a pastor? a religious leader? taken from a religious book? cos it sounds abit like something an enthusiatic Christian will try to 'teach' me, thinking he/she has the knowledge to. some of the links are "Under Development. Ready April 2007" and it's end-april 2008 now... there's no update. for some reason, the forum isn't very active either, sporadic posts tat form the numbers.

basically i find little religious integrity in that website even if the words 'christian' is repeated so many times that u might subconsciously think it's really some authorised website on religion. to me, it ISN'T and i will never take any reference from it.

Hi everyone,

This is an old article which was posted in April 2008. Just wanted to share that last year I made a promise to myself to increase my savings to $50 in one year and I am happy that I have achieved it this year April 2009. People who shared in this thread inspired me to rethink and relook at my own life and how I have been spending. Although I am consciously saving more, I still have my fun - my facials, holidays and etc in a more controlled way. I hope not to miss out the journey to the destination that I wanna be at.

I just wanna thank all those here who shared here and I am making another goal for April 2010.

I wish everyone a good year ahead, have a blast in getting what you want in life.
 
people who dare share how much they have are most likely folks who have substantial savings. so don't feel too bad if you don't compare well. suzy orman's rule of thumb is to have 8 months of living expenses in savings. since there is little of what you'd call social safety net in singapore (like unemployment benefits), we should probably aim a little higher. but that's a good rule to benchmark yourself.
 
i'm still trying very hard to put aside $400 per mth, my bank account only have a little over $3k after 11 yrs of joining the workforce. I don't earn alot, only $3k per mth. I don't have any kids or wife. Am i considered poor ?
 
I think this is very subjective issue... like what many said, it depends on how much you earn and spend. Some have lots of commitment like managing the expenses of whole house, parents, children, car, etc, etc so leftover not a lot. But $ is put to very good use and is necessary. Some have more income and lesser commitments, probably just car or something so can save more. I think as long as you tried your best and spend wisely, saving the rest that should be good. Rather than spending on extravagently with zero savings, then have to think about it.

Also the comfort level of money varies... 10k to one can be a hell lot but could also be quite an insignificant amount to another.

Best not to compare and just do your own math and calculations, etc.
