Silhouette the Atelier

chewiegranolabar,
I look weird when I wear the Cheongsum, perhaps the CS was not my size or I am too round to bring out its shape? It was like bao ba zhang (wrapping rice dumplings) on the shoulders and arms area.

oinkiepoink,
thanks for your reassurance.

Rebecca also suggested I do a CS with halter so that it won't bring so much attention to the tight areas. Just that I need to try to see how do I look with halter.

Hi everyone.

I'm in a fix.
Deciding between Silhouette and Wedding Present.

I'm looking for tulle gowns so far I have only tried Silhouette and Wedding Present tulle gowns.

The Silhouette tulle gowns are beautiful! but Wedding Present package is slightly better and it also tie up with the photograhper that I like.

It's so hard to decide.
For those gals that had/having the same problem deciding between these two, can you kindly share with me what's the deciding factor for you.

What are the things I should look out for before deciding?

PM me or email me at [email protected]

BTW, is there any other BS forte in tulle gowns?

Hi 9ngel,
I went to The Wedding Present (TWP) too. They quote me quite a good package, with MTM WG, shoes and also tea dress from Empire. Their gowns are also quite pretty.

However, I was quite firm on Silhouette as, like the other ladies have mentioned, there is no hidden costs for top ups and the gowns in SIL are really of good quality. Cuz in TWP, they told me although they will loan me a Kua FOC for my prewedding shoot, But I must pay 100 for actual day as it is a different type of Kua. I was quite puzzled on this. Small matter though.

Don't feel shy to ask a lot of questions or visit the shops again and again (with bf, friends). I went to SIL 2 times before I signed.

Also ask Silhouette if they have the photographer which you like.

Finally, have you found a gown that you really like in either shop? Cuz I already found THE gown during my 1st visit to SIL, when I ask for MTM in other shops, I was just trying to recreate same gown. Hence I ended up making a few wasted trips to other shops.

Lengthy post, I tried to PM you but it says you do not allow PM.

Just a note, you don't have to tie up with photographers who tie up with Silh....you can just get your gowns from Silh and source for an independent photographer....hope this helps!
happy.gif

and even if u wholesale copy silh's gown and MTM it outside, it definitely won't turn out exactly like Silh's and the effects won't be as nice and grand....

So no hidden costs with SIL, does that mean they dont charge extra for tulle?

Cos i actually enquired and they said gotta top up extra few hundred dollars for tulle and beading =(

Between TWP and SIL, i'd still select SIL =P

oops! whitelove is right, we need to pay top up for tulle gowns. I paid 500 for mine. I didn't have to pay for beading though...

In terms of no hidden costs, its more of after you paid the quoted amount, they won't ask for top up for more beading/details done on the gown.

There's actually a Christmas Promo till the end of the year. Works up to around 300 cheaper than the inital quoted price for me.

yeah, gotta pay more for tulle gowns but this extra amount of money to be paid is usually communicated to you before you settle on the gown and like what nuahee said, after settling the deposit, there won't be HIDDEN costs....

hi all,

9ngel, sorry i duno how to turn on the PM.. anyway, my answers are the same as those as above with regards to the hidden costs. The beadings, embroidery, even choosing a special silk satin gown at TWP wld require extra hundreds. but then again, i only went TWP once to hear out the package.. and their gowns are very beautiful, even the OTR..

Prior to that i'd already gone to Sil and like nuahee, I had already found THE gown cos Caroline was 1 of the few designers who understood what i want (cos i was v sure i want a certain kind of french lace) immediately.

Besides finding THE gown, i also felt very comfortable & "clicked" well with Caroline.. So I signed up on my 3rd visit to Sil. My point is, beside the WG, how you feel with the designer is also very impt cos u'd spend a few good months communicating with this person.

sorry i cant comment much on the tulle cos i didnt get that~

once u signed on the dotted line, the costs at Sil will only go down (taking out certain items u dont need) and not up (as far as i know)

Hi all,

I've been a silent reader but thought I should come out and thank all who've contributed all these useful info! I've just decided to go with Sil after sleeping on it, haven't even told Sil my decision yet!

Indeed, Sil is very upfront about additional costs, and their top-ups seem not too extravagant. They did ask for top up for the full lace gown that I liked but when I asked for a similar gown at another of my shortlisted BS (not TWP but the package price was similar), I was told it would cost a whopping $10,000!

9ngel, are you very fixed on the photographer you like? Because Silhouette does have tie ups with very good photographers! I personally love lightedpixels!

Certainly feeling comfortable with the designer is very important. I was worried that Rebecca seemed very young and based on her day to day dressing when I went down seemed to have a very different style from me but after thinking a bit more I realised the very first gown that she picked out for me to try was THE GOWN and just after half an hour of interaction she could figure out that I like natural makeup with glowy dewy feel. I know everyone asks for natural these days but she was just so spot on in precisely knowing what kind of natural (not sure if I'm making sense here). So I really shouldn't doubt her abilities her just because she's young and pretty.. haha.. Also she's always chirpy and friendly and polite. The other BS I shortlisted seemed very very competent but somehow the vibe I felt is that there weren't all that interested in having me as customer even though they didn't show it.

Oinkie, really? the price will only go down? What about if your EG is quite elaborate? As someone about to sign on the dotted line its certainly a happy thing to know if the price only goes down!

Hi Luvreia, Thank you! Your post reassured me about Rebecca. Cuz there have been a few very minor incidents which got me worried about not having a more experienced designer.

Yes, Rebecca is just as you have described her. I must really have more faith in her. Cuz I also took a gown she suggested. She does listen to my likes and dislikes. Hee!

When is your AD? Mine is in Jan 2010.

hello Luvreia,
well~ the price going down is my experience la~ haha! cos after i signed up the package, the price went down cos i took things like flowers etc out. so the net price we paid in the end was lesser than the price when we signed up for the package.
now that you mention, i think i was told to topup for my full lace gown if i took it MTM. mine was OTR so i didnt have to.. but then again, perhaps it has to do with the newness of the gowns & lace used.. i m just speculating here.
the designers at Silhouette help each other out a lot.. tho Caroline is my designer, the many times i went there, Minda, Kenji will help to give useful comments.. kenji even suggested to Caroline to take my EG design and make it in white OTR so that it can be used for beach weddings haha!
as for whether the price will go up if your EG is elaborate, i worried abt that initially as well, but i guess mine wasnt too elaborate (beadings, embroidery wise, design definitely elaborate!) so nothing was mentioned. perhaps you can check with your designer, guess they can provide better advice

notsuperfamous:
you can check with Silhouette designers regarding the photographers.

Nuahee, my AD is in June 09 - timing is quite tight. I'm still exploring working with Rebecca as well but so far you're right, she really does listen. And she's really good natured. My fiance snapped at her for something that's not her fault but she didn't get angry at all, although momentarily seemed shocked. Actually my fiance wasn't really snapping, its just that he's not Singaporean so his accent is sometimes choppy and sounds snappy to us, but I can imagine others will be upset at being spoken to in that tone.

Oh and I realised that if you go during a time where they are not as busy, you get more input from the others since they are less likely to be busy with other people. Although I wonder if sometimes too many cooks spoil the broth.

Oinkie, thanks so much for sharing! I'm not a fan of too elaborate designs anyway (think simple designs stand the test of time better) so guess won't worry too much about possible top ups for now! Quite curious what's your EG design like now, must be a pretty light and floaty kind of feel.

Not superfamous: I don't know about AD either but one of the photographers that I spoke to gave a discount because I'm a Sil customer even though I was considering a prewed package other than the one bundled up in Sil's promotion package. So its certainly worth asking Sil or even the individual PGs you're interested in about!

i usually go Silh on wkdays, so they are quite free. And most of the time, the other designers would just stand around and admire your beauty :D only to give a 1-2liner suggestions. They dont over-comment

Are Silhouette's gowns suitable for fleshy girls? I would really love to wear one of their tulle gowns but I'm on the fleshy side. I went to Divine and the designer told me I wasn't suitable for such gowns. Designer was really good and spent a lot of time with me telling me what I suit and what I didn't.

I went to Silhouette and while service was good but I felt that their designer was too accommodating. It's like they say they can alter or MTM the gown to my needs. But I would prefer if they gave me more input like what kind of gowns would suit me etc.

CareBearz, I know what you mean by being too accommodating sometimes, but I always throw it back to them. I shortlist and let them do the eventual decision. I mean we have to make use of their expertise right???

Haha.. anyway, I'm a very fleshy bride, and I'm taking up their big tulle gown. Absolutely love it.. thats why without the veil, I'll have a little jacket to cover up my fleshy arms. LOL.

9ngel, my final shortlist for BS was Dang and Sil.
I found THE GOWN at both shops actually, both were lovely both were about the same price. So I left it to my HTB to decide which dress he preferred. He pref me in the Sil dress and preferred Kenji more than the coordinator from Dang. So thats how we came to our decision... I think this way it becomes a lot easier. Both you find THE GOWN and get your hub to choose which is better!

Carebearz, personally I wouldnt recommend tulle for fleshy girls. It definitely is not slimming for the figure. However, it'll look very sweet & dramatic in photos! What I can suggest is using 1-2 layers of tulle and keep the skirt smaller, wear super high heels to get the height. I've already given up the idea of having a full tulle skirt. Divine designer suggested organza and I think I'll go with their suggestion =P

It really ok going for a full skirt.. just not too much. This can be adjusted to the different types of can-can available in the shop. Ball gown silhouettes are very very suitable for fleshy brides, cos its makes our waist look smaller. Keeping the waist in a V shape also helps, a slightly longer top will help also.

Its the same myth as having an off shoulder gown to cover the arms, doesnt mean every fleshy bride suit that. Many fleshy brides look great in bustiers too, it really all depends.

Hello ladies! I'm a newbie to the forum here. Have signed up with Silhouette!
happy.gif

I've chosen a light pink tulle gown but am a little uncertain if that's the color i should go for cos realised most people go for white or off white wedding gowns..

Nonetheless, service was great and the gowns were stunning!

Thanks for all the advice..I'm getting pretty confused with everything.
When I was at Divine, the designer was really sweet, she let me try on all sorts of gowns and pointed out to me what suits or didn't suit me.

She recommended a bustier for me as she said having straps will draw attention to my fleshy arms. She also recommended a longer top for me to cover my tummy. And she said that a ball-gown wouldn't suit me.

But I read on David's Bridal that a ball-gown can be good for larger size women as it makes their waists look smaller. Oh well, guess I gotta wait till I go down to Silhouette and try the gowns on. Wish me luck!

Welcome Lemonkiss!

Carebearz, I would think don't think too much about generalisations. Just try different gowns on and see what works for you!

Hi Jac, do u have any pics done by makeup artist Gin to show?

Btw, any of the brides here used Joey
or Jasmine as their makeup artist? Any feedbacks to share? Thanks

hi girls, i just signed up with sil last sat. i'm really comfortable with their designs/designers. any recommendation for make up artists? i'm tanned/dark skin tone so i'm a bit picky, hopin i can get someone who's comfortable with doing up someone with tanned skin.

I'm tanned too and many MUA tend to use foundation that's too light which makes me look like I'm a Beijing opera singer plus have the two tone effect between face and neck. I took Gin based on good reviews here but actually have not heard about how is she with tanned skin, just that she is good generally. Will really only know after trial I guess. Perhaps your designer can recommend?

Hi all, had my wedding last Friday and am finally sharing my gown pics! It's a lovely duchess satin ballgown with sequins on the bodice and train. My designer is Caroline and it's an OTR gown which was adjusted for length and slightly at the bust. It was really heavy when carrying, but I loved wearing it. It got tiring after a while and the train got really dirty from dragging around. Luckily my jie meis did a great job of helping me with it, both lifting it and also arranging it for pictures, march ins.

My MUA was Gin and she was just fabulous. She came at 6.30 am for the morning make up and was done by 7.45. For night, she arrived at 3.30 as I had solemnization. I requested for her to use less hairspray as my cousin was going to pin up my down-do after I change into my cheongsam. She made it really easy for my cousin to make the hairdo change for me by curling my hair and putting the original hairdo in an easily changeable position. Here's my morning hairdo, solemnization and evening respectively.

chewiegranolarbar,
congrats!! i got married on sunday
happy.gif

your gown looks so elegant and i love your hairdos esp the morning hairdo...
i think i had something similar....
yeah, Gin is fantastic!!

I can't thank Caroline and the team at Silhouette enough for making such lovely gowns for me....

Hi Chewiegranolarbar, if u dont mind, can send me
a pic of the make up done by Gin? My email is [email protected]. I am also a Silhouette bride to be, am thinking which make up artist to use. Caroline recommended joey and jasmine.

Chewiegranolabar, your wedding gown is beautiful! And Gin really did a good job with your hair
happy.gif
. Can you please share a photo or 2 of yourself with the make up done by Gin? My email add is [email protected].

I signed up with Silohuette just a few weeks back and am very anxious to see my actual gown in March 09! Rebecca served me and although young looking, she was very switched on to my needs and taste. In fact I was very impressed with the way she handled my fiancé, his parents and mine! My gown was supposed to be an OTR gown, but one of the other designers sold it on the morning I went back to confirm my booking. Rebecca saw how upset I was and assured us that she will do a M2M gown as similar as possible to what I wanted at no extra cost. I really appreciate their friendliness and excellent service. So now I am just keeping my fingers crossed till March!!!

I have been to at least 5 other BS in Sg and 4 in Malaysia, and must say that Sillhouette's gowns are truly crème de la crème!
happy.gif

chewiegranolabar, you look gorgeous in that gown. It does make you centre of attention.

I must agree that Sil's gown are really cut very well. Nothing I've tried anywhere else, even places that I previously thought was higher range that Sil, could hide my flaws the way the OTR Sil gown I picked. Plus service is always excellent!

All you babes who have gone through your wedding, can I ask: did you us 86 creations (as recommended by Sil) and was it good? The website wasn't very impressive but it could well be attributed be lack of web skills rather than flowers themselves.

Jac, i hope you are feeling better!! are you on honeymoon yet?

peace lover, babyjah, can you add me on mulitply, username is chewiegranolabar. i will upload some pictures there over the weekend! babyjah, i'm sure u'll be happy with ur experience at Sil under the good hands of Rebecca. i'm going to miss the Sil family!

luvreia, thank you! my flowers were from Mrs Teo at blk 85 bedok cos she's near my place.

chewiegranolarbar,
yeah, upload your pics to multiply soon!
yeap, i recovered on my wedding day, haha!
nope, we have no time to go for honeymoon and we didn't plan anything regarding honeymoon yet...how abt u? where and when will you be going?

luvreia,
previously Silh recommended Poppy and Redbox...perhaps u can go to the florist to take a look
happy.gif

Hi Lee Yan, Yes Sil has. Every mth sil will tie up with a few photographers and some of them offer pre wedding shoots. U may want to contact Sil directly to find out what promotion they are having for this month.

can someone PM me Gin's contacts? after reading all the gd reviews, thinking of engaging her although i not getting package fr silhouette. Tks!

Hi

Am new to the forum... Silhouette sounds great from all the reviews. Wld anyone be able to advise what's the price range like for their ala-carte & packages?

Thanks heaps =)

hello fellow silh brides!

anyone here has joanne as MUA? I am contemplating between Joanne & Gin..

Gin's make up and hairdo for cheewie looks fabulous!! but my designer says maybe Joanne is her fav...and perhaps suits me more..

anyone cares to share pics of Joanne's work??

Tia!!
happy.gif

babyjah, can i ask what kind of gown you were looking for? duchess satin, tulle, ball gown or lace?

i'm in the same situation. rebecca also suggested doing MTM for something very similar but we haven't decided whether we want to take up that option..

Hi elmove...

I got a double layer a-line chantilly lace gown with a pretty long train. It love it because it has a very dreamy, flowing like walking on air look. I loved the ball gown looks as well, but my FH said that he preferred the elegant look rather than a princess.

I took the M2M option only because they had accidentally sold the WG I wanted (I tried it just the evening before but made a mistake of not booking it...who would have thought that going back to them at 12 pm the next day would be too late
proud.gif
?) and I was quite sad. Otherwise the gown would have been an OTR one. But you need to check if you have to top up for the material...like for mine, I had to top up $1000 for the lace. I'm not sure if the other materials are cheaper.

I'm not the most artistic person around, so designing my own gown gown would be quite a disaster
happy.gif
. So this M2M gown of mine is very similar to the OTR one that I tried. Once it is done, I might get some modifications here and there.

Hope this helps!

Hi Chewiegranola, Your gown is amazing and you have a great figure!

So exciting, I'm going for my second fitting this Sat. I am 6months away from my wedding, and I seem to suddenly have many things to do.

hi babyjah, what a coincidence! it's the same gown that i was looking for! did rebecca recommend pairing it with a coloured sash and a long veil?

i first went down to sil in late dec and saw it. went down a second time to show FH just before the new year again. when i called on tue, rebecca said it was gone.. rebecca said she can make a close one but not identical coz of the lace. have you chosen yours?

Elmove!!!! hehehehe... I think we are definitely talking about the same dress
happy.gif
.Yes, she helped put on a bronze sash and also recommended a long veil.

Did your FH get to see the gown at all? When is your AD?

I went ahead with getting them to make me a similar gown and have been keeping in contact with Rebecca to see what laces they can source... I just absolutely love the dreamy look. Its a gown I know in 40 years time when I look back I will not feel like a victim of fashion
happy.gif
..(just my humble 2 cent opinion).

Are you going to go ahead with their M2M offer?

yup, my FH got to see me in the gown. he likes it too.

sigh... i was counting on the gown being available. haven't decided if we want to pay so much to MTM something that we could have gotten OTR.. also can't keep the gown.. did you take the package with the EG and suit?

i know exactly what you mean about looking back and still liking the gown!
happy.gif
that was the clincher for us too!

our AD's in Oct. when's urs?

We locked in our package on the 28th of Dec.They were having a promo till Dec 31st: I dont know if it was the best deal in town, but we got it cause we loved that dress.

Package was 3988 (plus $1000 for the lace):They M2M that WG for me, M2M FH's suit, pre-wedding photoshoot, MUA (trial, photoshoot, AD day and night), some flowers: hand bouquet, corsages, car deco...

I understand what you mean by expensive though, cause initially when we asked how much the gown was going to cost (they didnt mention about their package that was still avail) Rebecca quoted me $4500 for the gown alone!

We got our EG from Ashley Isham couture.so no need to M2M that. I am now looking for a cheongsam
happy.gif
.

My AD is in November. Have you locked in your banquet hall yet?

oh, i didn't know they were having an offer. it's not the DBS one ya? the one rebecca told us about was with DBS - WG, EG, MUA and flowers (no photography) at 3800. that's excl the full lace top-up..

your total package would be 4988? a sil WG and Ashley EG, very exciting!
happy.gif

Hi to all Sil brides, will like to trouble u all to add me in the multiply a/c as i will like to c ur gowns esp EGs? my Id is ginnisewai & my email is [email protected]. Basically, i am impressed w the tulle gowns but nt the EGs. Please let me know ur package too if possible. Thanks in advance
