hi glam,
oic.. hee din know about that...

the tulle is with a short train and sequins.
so.. it shud be under which collection? :p

short train with sequins? sounds more like lovely range.... those under the beautiful ranges mostly quite elaborate ones, with long trains and the pouffy princessy tuelle.... hee

Hi all Sil brides/ btb,

Thank you all for sharing your pictures and advice. I have been a silent reader all these while, and I must say reading your comments has helped me a lot.

I am currently still deliberating between Silhouette and the wedding present (TWP).. headache! But I am very inclined to Sil now. Got to agree with everyone on this thread that their tulle gowns are just so lovely! Cant stop thinking of them.

Btw, anyone has tulle gowns, Cheong sam EG from Silhouette to share ? My nick is xiaobianfu on multiply. Oh, and has anyone heard of Rebecca, fashion designer? Only heard of Kenji, Caroline, Minda so far. =P

Cheers!

has anyone tried making a short dress with silhouette? i need a short dress for my ROM and know some BS will throw in ROM dress and maybe makeup/hair/flowers if you sign for their package, anyone knows if silhouette has this practice?

i really love their tulle gowns! =)

hi juztea,
reading your comment on the gown on display makes me wanna go down to Silh to see what new gowns they have!
happy.gif
i haven't been to silhouette since end sept
sad.gif

what is your EG going to be like?

hi xiaomonu,
Glad to hear that u r inclined towards Silh
happy.gif

i believe Rebecca is new in Silh....

not superfamous,
i've made a short dress with Silh and nope, they won't throw in the short dress for your package, cos the dress is MTM and for keeps. hope this helps!

Hello Xiaomunu,

I am like you!!! I cant decide between Silh and TWP. I been there twice and I simply love them. I am getting such a headache now. Will anyone be so sweet to share their pictures with me?

Hi Jac, same question as peace_lover, do you have pictures & how much did the dress cost you? =)

i'm also intending to check out TWP.. i think i might have the same headache as the rest in choosing b/w the 2 :p

hi,
am not too sure how much Silh charge for the short dress these days....do check with them as i did mine pretty early on in the year....think its from $700 to under $1k?

Well, if your budget allows for it, then i'll strongly recommend silhouette...esp if u r looking at tulle gowns...i've seen some tulle gowns from other shops and no one can do it like Silh does....

My first actual fitting with all my dresses done is 1 mth from now. Will show you pics soon!

But my EG color over black tulle type. I really love tulle, my day gown is the big tulle dress too. Dont worry it wont be similar cos the EG is not BIG type. hahah...

Sil's service is very good and I saw one of the brides during trial....she looked so princessy!

Unfortunately I didnt pick them cos I felt the tulle skirt was quite overwhelming for my frame =(

Dawn, who attended to you?

i was there with my friend & we thought the service was quite bad... the person who served us initially just walked off while showing us gowns and got another person to serve us..

and we felt very rushed while trying on the gowns though the new person that served us was alot more friendlier & nicer.

in the end, even though their gowns are nice & i love/want a tulle gown, i'm not going with them.

Hi Dawn,

How does the tulle gown look like? i believe sil has lots of other beautiful tulle gown available that suits your frame.

hmmm I can't remember who served me =( I guess the service was ok although they didn't really give me any technical advice on body shape etc.
Not superfamous: maybe the person who served you was busy?

I tried on one or two of the tulle gowns. The skirt is really princessy because of the sequins. Somehow I actually looked fat and short because the tulle was just too much on my frame. Nways, I've now decided not to use tulle anymore since i'm quite short - 160cm

Think those who go for SIL would be impressed by their dramatic skirt?! I don't really like the top part of the gowns but theres always the option of MTM.

Hi all... I was initially considering Ritz Couture. But after having gone to Silhouette and Amanda Lee, am now torn bet Sil and Amanda Lee... any advice, pls??

whitelv

New Member
I've been to Ritz too....not so suitable for me.

Sil has extremely girly and princessy gowns with lovely crystals and beading. Their forte is probably Tulle?!

Amanda Lee is more about coloured lace and embroidery. Their cutting quite good esp for evening gowns.

Both have very different styles so I guess you can decide according to what you really want. SIL is also slightly pricier

putting service aside, i prefer the gowns at silhouette, as compared to amanda lee.

amanda lee used to be a designer at silhouette? if you like her coloured lace, would be a good place to go to. if you prefer tulle gowns, probably silhouette.

Hi all,
I'm about to confirm my package with silhouette, have been liaising with Rebecca, she's wonderful - very friendly and chirpy, but since she's new, haven't get to see her work, am a little apprehensive signing up with her. Any BTB is with her currently?

Dawn, I'm also 160cm and I want to have a tulle WG. Have been to The Wedding Present, Amanda Lee and a private designer in Arab Street area, tried their tulle gowns but so far, SIL works the best for me. The other gowns actually made me look wide and fat. Perhaps it’s the cutting of the gown or my body type? I am not slim, would need to lose weight soon.

I'm not with Rebecca but I have met her several times when I went down to Sil for my appts. Yes, she's always friendly (even remembers my name) and bright. I have seen her work on gowns, I suppose she was helping the other designers. Are you taking a MTM or OTR? I suppose of OTR, there is not so much "risk" per say... the other designers will also chip in sometimes. My designer is Caroline but Minda also helped me before. Mine's an OTR gown BTW.

For MUAs, I'm having my trial with Gin on Thursday
happy.gif
Also heard Ann (not 100% sure..) is good but she was taken on my AD

Thanks Chewiegranolabar for the reply, I'm taking an OTR WG but I'll have a MTM EG. That's when I will need more inputs from the designers, but so far, I'm comfortable with Rebecca, so that's a good sign.
happy.gif
Should be sticking with her then.

I may want to have Gin do my make up too, saw some ads by SIL on bridal maga where Make-up is done by her, looks good. But that will only be decided sometime next year as my AD is 1 year later. Do update us about Gin after your trial on Thurs. Thanks!

Hi nuahee, I saw Rebecca sewing diamantes on evening gowns before! OIC, I'm only getting a OTR WG from them
happy.gif

Sure, I'll let you guys know how it goes. Recession ah... better save money. I was considering hard to spend more on another MUA, but will probably stick to Gin. My wedding's in 3 weeks time, so will also update how the AD went!

Nuahee,

Hope you get your dream gown soon! SIL's tulle gowns are really beautiful. The trick i think is not to make an overly big skirt and wear really high heels so the gown won't end up wearing you =P

regarding the gowns making one look short and fat, think its got to do with the bodice length...i'm definitely shorter than 160m and my tulle gown fits me perfectly! initially it made me look short and i conveyed that to my designer and she said that's cos the bodice was too long...next time round, she shortened the bodice and the effect became alot better instantaneously...
So, do communicate well with your designer in all matters related to your gowns, regardless OTR or MTM
happy.gif

Gin is good!!! She did my make-up for photoshoot and will be doing my makeup for actual day which is less than 3 weeks to go!

chwiegranolarbar,
when is your wedding?

nuanuakoh

Wow chewiegranolabar, 3 weeks is very soon! You must be excited!
happy.gif

Hi whitelove, actually, I really like a gown with a huge skirt and long train. Haha... but Rebecca says can either alter the length of the train, or she makes a hook so I can fold the skirt. But I want to keep the huge train for Photoshoot, It will be great if the WG drawfs me, make me look smaller. hahaha...

See how it goes, will do selection after I confirm package this week.

Nuahee: Yeah nowadays the brides can hook up their trains but can tulle be folded too? Such a great idea!

I'm thinking of Organza + Tulle being revealed from under. Tried something like this at another BS and quite like it!

nuanuakoh

New Member
whitelove, the train is just 1 layer of tulle or maybe 2 layers. can't remember actually. Was quite surprised when Rebecca suggested it but I guess it should work.

Organza with Tulle underneath sounds good. Will you want colored or patterned tulle? I saw The Wedding Present has Pokka Dots Tulle. Quite interesting too. Very cute! Have you found your dream gown?

Hi gals. I was a Silhouette customer too! Wedding just over a couple of weeks ago. Wow! it's so fun to read about all your gown-hunting experiences. I remember fondly the times when i was also chatting on this thread and talking about sihouette's gowns.;)

Seems like tulle gowns are still very popular!

I'm a short gal too - 158cm and i also never thought that i will have a huge tulle ballgown. In fact at first, i ruled out having a ballgown in my initial search. But i did have a ballgown in the end (and one of the bigger ballgowns in the shop too! :p) of course, i wore 4.2 inch heels so that i don't drown in the tulle! :p like Jac and some girls mentioned, i think it is possible to wear tulle even if you are short - can always alter the bodice or the fullness of the skirt. but of course, there are so many equally luxurious fabrics to choose from, so keep an open mind.
happy.gif

Whichever boutique you end up signing up with, i wish everyone all the best in their search for THE gown. There is always an unique style for everyone.
happy.gif
Personally, i am just so so glad i went to silhouette - their gown really helped made an impact in the pictures and helped build the "grandness" and "glamness" of the atmosphere on the wedding day. The gowns i got from Silhouette is one item i never regretted splurging on.
happy.gif

So, congrats to all sil's btb; i'm sure your guests will be wowed by your beautiful gowns! All the best!
happy.gif

PS: Jac! congrats! 3 more weeks to go!! Don't lose too much weight or you'll disappear in your gown! :p Actually i think you look perfect already!

hi mei,
nice to see you here!
heh, i gotta fix appt with Caroline to see if i really need to lose weight cos i can't alter gown with all the beadins on it!

i agree with mei that silhouette gowns do make an impact in the pics!

hello jac! Caroline will probably tell you no need! ha ha! Yeah, just stay at the size you were for your PS - think you look great then - slim but not too thin. "mei-mei"!

Jac, my wedding is on 26th. Yours is the day after? I just had my makeup trial with Gin today. Wow, she's good! I really like the make up and hairdo she did for me
happy.gif
Thanks for the recommendation! And I think your figure very good already. No need to lose more weight.

Did any of you request for a change of hairstyle after the 1st march in? Can PM me how much you were quoted?

chewiegranolarbar,
mine is on the 28th. So you didn't have any -pre-wedding shoot?
Good to hear that you liked what Gin did for you and bear in mind that for this trial makeup, she didn't really like do 100% of the makeup cos she's reserving everything for your big day
happy.gif

so rest assured that the makeup and hairdo on your big day will last for a longer time
happy.gif
mine lasted very well during my photoshoot day - now, its kaypoh time...any pics of your trial makeup to share?
what hairdo are you looking at for your actual day?

yeah, i hope my gown still fits perfectly
happy.gif

I'm not requesting a change of hairstyle, cos Gin says there's no need for it....check with her?

i was a Silhouette bride as well, my wedding was in Nov08.
Unlike most of you here, I got a full lace WG which was fully beaded, adorned with pearls. My EG is MTM. My husband's MTM suit was from there as well~
Caroline is fantastic, Gin is great (including natural makeup) and all at Silhouette have been very very helpful.
Just a note that too natural makeup may look v washed out in photos.
1 of my friend who's a frequent wedding dinner go-er & ex-bride herself, was v shocked that my WG was OTR. She mentioned abt the perfect fit, intricate beadwork & detailing that's seldom seen in OTR gowns. in fact so many people asked if my gown was MTM, even my photographer. Everyone commended on the fine work done for our WG, EG & suit.
I will miss going down to Silhouette and just want to assure all Silhouette BTBs that you have made the right choice, be it gowns / mua.
you are definitely in good hands so leave it to them

For those who are two minds about Silhouette / Wedding Present:
B4 signing up with Silhouette, I had also considered TWP. It was a choice between Sil & TWP as well.
Eventually besides finding THE gown at Silhouette, i felt that TWP has a lot of uncalculated additional costs compared to Silhouette. For Silhouette all the costs are in the packages.
For your consideration.

Hi Jac, no I didn't have pre-wedding shoot. Took pics yesterday but will only upload after wedding
happy.gif
I had an updo, with a messy bun. I said I wanted something similar to yours. Hahaha! My front is probably more "pong" cos my face quite round. Hehe...

I wanted a different hairdo cos solemnization, I wanted a low, side pulled wavy pony tail thing, with flowers on side. Then evening gown is cheongsam, so quite funny to wear with pony tail hair I think... so I was thinking of doing a neater updo for cheongsam. I wonder what is market rate...

When are you going down to collect? I will go down on 22 Dec. Must fit again cos it was too long... cannot walk!

oinkiepoink, yes I agree with you! The price just gets lower for Sil as you take things out of your package. I took out flowers, men's suit etc. Hehe... good to hear you had a good experience too :D

i agree with oinkiepoink regarding the high quality of Silh's OTR gowns, right down to every single details! my OTR WG suits me very well too!
regarding choosing TWP and Silh, i think in terms of the luxurious-ness of the materials used, Silh def wins hands-down...and yep, at Silh, there are no additional costs, everything is included in the package, even if u want to add more details to your gowns etc...

oinkiepoink,
its nice to hear that you had a very good experience with Silh. Congrats by the way!
happy.gif

chewiegranolarbar,
heh, thot can see some pics before your wedding - nvm, enjoy your wedding first then
happy.gif
i think maybe Gin don't rem my name...hehe but think she'll rem as the one who asked the hairdos of the models at the bridal show...

i will be wanting an up-do for my actual day....maybe a chic bun updo will do as i think its better to have a classic look, so i won't feel too embarassed when i look at my pics many years later :p
i initially wanted a pony tail kind of hairdo too, but think it doesn't go with my gowns....i think your idea of a low, side-pulled pony tail sounds good!

I think i'm going down on 17th dec....yeah, i must go and cut away the train of my evening gown, otherwise sure cannot dance in it! when are you going to collect your marriage documents from ROM?

nuanuakoh

Hi everyone,
I have signed my package with Silhouette today. Yeah!
happy.gif
Didn't take the gown with the super long train, took a mid length one with spiral sequins instead. I brought my camera as I wanted to take photos of my chosen gown but was shy to take it out. Sigh.. MUST do it the next time round I go for my first fitting.

Rebecca will be my designer and she also suggested that I take Gin as my MUA since I am more into natural Make Up. So I am taking Gin, even without seeing her works, apart from those in magazines.

I also tried a few Cheongsums today but I don't look good in it. Horribly tight on the shoulders. Am rather disappointed...

Meanwhile, I will need to do research on EGs, can I ask where do you all get your ideas on MTM EGs? I am quite thrown off balance as I really wanted to wear a Cheongsum, but my bodyshape doesn't allow.
sad.gif

nuahee, congrats on your choice!
happy.gif
Don't be embarrassed abt taking pictures. once you sign the contract, you can take pics! before that cannot. i tried about 5 gowns before deciding on my OTR gown.

my EG is a cheongsam i made at Katong Shopping Centre (by Wilson, from Max Couture). what you mean by your body shape doesn't allow for CS?

Jac, I did mention your wedding is 1 or 2 days after mine. Caroline surely remembers you la. Is yours a full updo? Mine has the ends curled and sticking out. HTB & bridemaids did say it's nice, so I'll stick to that. Still contemplating on 2nd march in do... hai...

You going down on 17th to collect, or fit again? I'm going to ROM on 22nd, the first morning slot. You?

thanks Jac & chewiegranolabar
happy.gif

nuahee:
I took on Gin at Caroline's recommendation as well, w/o seeing a portfolio. Gin has good style, does listen and also provides good advice so dont worry. Just remember that sometimes too natural makeup can look like no makeup on photos / videos. But Gin's makeup somehow allows the face to breathe and does not crack up, if you know what i mean.
If you really like CS, then perhaps you can look for a modern interpretation of CS, halter with CS collar etc?

Hehe, my 2 cents' worth.
