Did you know that peppercorns are actually not pepper, but rather citrus berries on the prickly ash tree?

Commonly used by Sichuan chefs to enhance the flavour and aroma of the dishes, they are fundamental to Sichuan cuisine. However, if you have ever encountered biting into one of these peppercorns, you'll remember the numbing sensation they left on your tongue for a few seconds.

So even though they are extremely flavourful, be careful not to bite into one of these as they may be tiny but definitely pack a mighty punch!

Get your dose of peppercorn in our signature dishes such as "Chong Qing" Diced Chicken with Dried Chilli (重庆辣子鸡) and Boiled Sliced Fish with Spicy Chilli Oil (沸腾鱼).

Did you know that Long Jing tea (龙井茶) is also known by its literal translated name, Dragon Well tea?

Legend has it that Emperor Qian Long's mother recovered from her illness after drinking the Long Jing tea that was brought back by the emperor from Lion Peak Mountain. Thereafter the emperor granted Long Jing tea an Imperial status. The tea then became one of the tribute teas to the emperors. Up until today, it remains one of the Ten Famous Teas in China.

Mid-Autumn is in two weeks time and we had an early celebration this afternoon!

100 seniors from Whampoa and Queenstown were treated to a six-course meal prepared by our Executive Chefs while six energetic and talented seniors showcased their great vocal skills.

A huge thank you to our partners, @centralsgcdc and @medley_music_school, for making this event possible and joining us in making this Mid-Autumn memorable for the seniors!

We spent Sunday afternoon at the Project We Care Garden Party with beneficiaries and had an absolute blast serving them our Homemade Fine Bean Curd with Wolfberries (枸纪甜豆花) and Glutinous Rice with Chicken wrapped in Lotus Leaf (荷叶罗米鸡饭)! The Project We Care Network is a collaboration between the People’s Association and the private sector in Singapore to encourage corporate volunteerism and is led by our Executive Director Ms Wee Wei Ling, who is also the Chairperson of the Project We Care Network.

It was a great honour to be a part of this meaningful biennial event and we look forward to the next edition!

Savour our bento boxes (which are seafood themed this time round!) at the atrium of UOB Plaza while enjoying an hour-long performance of familiar tunes from films such as You Are The Apple of My Eye (那些年,我们一起追的女孩) and Scarlet Heart (步步惊心).
