Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant

hey loveluis,

did u pay extra for the tea pouring by the shifu? or izit FOC?
i will hving my wedding dinner at GPPR frm Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant.

Hi all, i'm considering Sichuan Dou Hua Restaurant for my wedding banquet. Does the UOB branch and the GPPR branch has the same wedding menu?
I have not been to the 2 restaurants, may I know which one has a better ambience and is nicer?

Hi Xynn, you should pay a visit to both the places first so as to see whether you are fine with the layout. I am holding my wedding at GPPR branch but had originally selected the UOB branch. This is due to the layout as I felt that it will be quite a challenge for me to see the guest and vice versa. However, in my opinion, the decor at the UOB branch seems more formal , of cos the view contributes! and i think its cos of the high ceiling.
All in all, give Linda a call and make an appt with her. She definitely wont mind making arrangements for u.
BTW, when is ur wedding?

Booking a venue is up to you. I booked mine a year ahead as it is on Mid Autumn Festival. Mine is this year 18 Sep. If u cant reach Linda, let me know as I have her mobile no.

hey koh,

i also holding my wedding dinner at GPPR too...
mine on 25 feb 06...

so i need to pay extra for the pour tea demo by the 'shifu'?

hi!jus wanna ask how's the layout in Sichuan douhua rest? heard all the good things abt food, but i m quite concerned abt layout also..got pillars blocking?
thk!

hi all, i went to Sichuan Douhua at GPPR yesterday. The place is quite small. I spoke to the manager and he said can put 20 tables. Max is 22 tables or else very cram. The whole place looks quite nice. Have not been to the branch at UOB yet.

Hee... sorry for the late reply.
The place is indeed quite small, and I am only holding 20 tables.
I think it is best to talk to Linda cos she is in the best position to make decisions, that's what I think.
The branch in TOP UOB has many pillars but definitely look more formal.
I think the tea pouring by the shifu is included in the banquet package. But, have to take note, each guest is only poured once.
after that, its normal pouring. But, its logical to me,cos I think quite tough to hold the long spout tea pot all over the plc.

Oh yes, the branch at GPPR is quite small. I was quite shocked when i saw the place. But at least no pillars blocking. I have called up Linda, but she will be on business trip for the next few days. Guess the earliest i can meet her is next weekend. But i realised that the prices at GPPR is more expensive than the branch at UOB.

Hi all,
Anyone know whether buffet lunch at GPPR entitle to solemisation package disc or credit card disc?
How's food or atmosphere?
considering that place for solemisation..

hi all,
i just had my wedding lunch and dinner on May 22 at SiChuan DouHua at UOB branch - lunch was for my relatives and dinner for my friends. I must say that i've got very good comments from my relatives about the food and also good comments about the service provided by the restaurant. One of my friends at first even thought that the restaurant manager Linda is one of my Jiemei/helper!
I had 11 tables during lunch and another 12 tables during dinner - Restaurant was not closed to public during this time but because of the layout of the restaurant, I was still able to have a private area for myself.
Overall, I was happy to have chosen the restaurant for my wedding.. would encourage those thinking to have wedding dinner at UOB to give Linda a ring.

Hey all,

anyone know do i need to pay extra for the pour tea demo by the 'shifu'?
before the dinner start. thanks

Hi moo,

here is their number. 6535 6006.

Hi everyone, my WD will be on 1st October in UOB plaza
But until now i haven't decide, which one will be my VIP table. Who is going to sit inside the VIP room. And where am going stand for cake cutting, champagne pouring and speech?

Do you ever encounter people used another small stage beside both long and round podium? e.g. in the corner or facing the long podium
btw, i will invite 130 guests. So, how many table i should booked? 12 or 13?

Thanks

Hi kwan,

Is that your confirmed number of guests.. cos feedback from my friends are that its very hard to confirm the exact number of guests turing up. I would suggest if your estimated number is 130, can request to book like 12 tables + 2 reserved so that at least..if the 2 reserved tables are not open, then u dont have to pay..save $$..

Btw, do you have the whole restaurant booked then??

Hi everyone!

Glad to see that this thread is active again! I'll also be having my wedding dinner at SCDH UOB Plaza later this year. My hubby and I simply love that place.. great food and a cosy intimate ambience! Agree though that the restaurent layout is a problem, esp when we've booked the whole place (22 tables). Still haven't decide how we gonna arrange the stage, the walk in.. etc. btw, anyone out there who had/going to have your wedding banquet there care to share what wedding package you've negotiated? thinking of giving up the deluxe room at plaza parkroyal for sthg else, any advice?

Hi maah,

I'm having my banquet there as well but its next year. I also have the whole restaurant booked. I took the highest package..havent sign contract yet so not much negotiation..as the restaurant is divided into 2 sides, so one side is for relatives and the other friends/colleagues..hehe

hi,

i planned to invite 130 people max. So i only need to use half side of restaurant.

I choose the 2nd package. i don't take their invitation card and i managed to get the seat cover.. as it is not included in the package.
And i don't like their invitation card. so, i order the invitation cards from indonesia. (btw, i'm indonesian) coz its very cheap over there and very nice

ahlin..

when is your wedding? coz this coming august, i'm going back to jakarta (i often go back to jakarta) so i can bring some samples for you. anyway i got 3 samples with me now. give me your email.. i'll take photo tonight and send them to you..

hi rusty!
yeah, we're planning for the front part of the restaurent for relatives and the back for frens and colleagues. haven't yet decide where to put the vip table also. think need to make a trip to uob soon to fix the details!

hi princess_lee,
the dinner package is $538+++, $568+++ or $608+++ (unless they jack up the prices this year). don't think they offer free flow beer, though depending on your package, u might be able to ask for something like 80 - 100 glasses if you book whole restaurent. linda is pretty flexi, so it's a pretty much give and take negotiation!

hi maah,

where is your AD?? i was thinking not to put the vip table in the big room where it can sit 20 pax. cos too isolated..thinking of putting on the 'circular stage' there(not sure if u know where i mean).

Hi rusty!

Mine will be held at UOB SCDH, end of this year. My in-laws are not that keen to sit in the 20-pax room for the same reason you mentioned. The circular stage/platform looks ideal.. but again, still gotta go there are reckii again!

so have you sign with them to book the restaurent yet?

Hi maah,

I have placed a deposit with them since beginning of this year and my AD is Jan 2006. heh..a bit kiasu..but my FH really loves the decor and ambience so decision was made real fast. Initially wanted outdoor wedding but a lot of preparations needed and dependent on weather so did away with that..

Have you taken your PS?

hi Rusty!

great to hear that you've booked UOB SCDH too!
i just had my PS last week.. weather not too good these days. what abt urself? am busy with my hse reno now.. are u doing it too?

Hi maah,

I had my PS in late Jul and will be going for photo selection this coming week. Yah..weather not too good these few days..on the day of my PS, it was even drizzling so I dont get to have sunset and clear skies..sighz.

house reno done but still buying stuffs in..a lot of $$ to spend..looking at mattress and bed frame now

hi
how's the food and service for this restaurant?
does it have any wedding shows?
price is not $548+++ and $578+++ (dunno about the most ex menu)
we practically begged for free flow beer, but think they very strict on it
sad.gif

hi greengal,

i had the buffet and it was good. service not bad. dont think they have wedding shows. cos most of their patrons are usually through recommendation. most ex menu at UOB Plaza is $608+++ (not sure if any more price hike).

hi greengal

i just received an email from them saying that if u bk w them by end of sept/oct, u get $500nett off for the total price.

maybe u can call to enquire

my hubby had eaten their food and he said that it is pretty gd

how's the layout of the restaurant like? What's the max table at UOB? Will the table and guest be too far apart?

Would like to commend Linda on a wonderful job for my wedding dinner at SCDH UOB Plaza! All my guests were amazed at the quantity and quality of the food! And everything ran absolutely smoothly! Would highly recommend SCDH UOB Plaza for those who want a modern yet conventional wedding dinner!

hi all,

i know linda & her staff can help us decorate the whole restaurant with balloons if we want...but we must pay for the ball & helium air. anyone do that b4?

kwan,

thanks for sharing your photos at least i know how the restaurant will be on my AD.

a frd of mine just had her wedding at Si Chuan the atmosphere was good, the plc looks modern that nite it was beautifully decor with plenty of white & gold balloon after the dinner guests can bring as many balloons home as they wish. the food were nicely served especially the mango pudding very unique serve with colourful liquid underneath in a glass...their staff were all very polite & with good attitude...too bad the plc can only put 25 tables the maximum...

hi,

can anyone share their dinner pics @ si chuan dou hua @ uob plaza with me? will like to know more about their decor and layout, esp wen there's so many good comments about their food.

[email protected]

thanks!

Hi all!

Was at SCDH this afternoon, the first impression was that the layout is a major headache. My FH doesn't like the idea of the 20 seater table isolated in the room. Is it possible to remove the panel of walls so that this table is then exposed?

Linda was busy with preparing for tonight's dinner so she left us with a file of photos to browse through. But one thing she mentioned to me instantly when passing me the information was that EVERYTHING ON THE LIST IS NEGOTIABLE.

After looking through the list, I do have a few queries.. anyone can help answer them?

1) Where's the car park and how much is it? SCDH only redeems $1 per coupon.

2) 20l barrel of beer is not enough. Thinking of getting more. How much do they charge for the beer once we finish our complimentary barrel?

3) What is their corkage charge for wine brought in?

4) How did you guys march in?? I must say you all must have been really creative!

5) Any food tasting available?

6) Where does the bride change?

Overall, I like that place! My must agree with my FH that the layout is awkward, esp the 20 seater table, some 2 tables that are seated within single rooms, some 2 nos of rectangular tables.

ULtimately, we are looking for a decent place with delicious food. The first criteria is definitely met, the second part on the food I'm not sure as I have not tried the food personally. Reading the threads, it seems like the food is having good review. Any other comments on their food? Which dish is good?

hehe.. lots of question eh? Thanks everyone in advance!

Hi all.

I've booked Sichuan Dou Hua at Plaza Parkroyal. We liked the UOB outlet but layout and transport to hotel is a headache to us.

RainQQ,
I like the plc so much after went to my frd dinner. Last mth i went SCDH to negotiate on the pkg Linda proposed to me.

For your infor UOB Building has a carpark at the basement, charge $3 per entry for evening & weekend. During dinner SCDH staff will pass ang bao with $1 inside to guests with parking coupons. Beer comes in glasses not barrel after tt a 30% discount would be accorded. U can negotiate to hv more glasses if u want. Waiver of corkage charge for duty paid hard liquor. I can't comment on the march in cos differ ppl will hv differ way of methods, for this Linda can give many suggestions, is all up to individual which way u prefer to do it. 40% discount on food tasting. according to my frd PIL & parent side feedback, their food tasting is not so delicious compare to AD dinner. Most of the friends & relatives also comments nice foods & scenery jus tt the Si Chuan prawn very spicy. A room will be provided for bride to change her gown, no worry.

Think u better make an appointment with Linda to discuss more on the details otherwise most of the time she will be occupied with other duties & u ended up wasting your trip. She is a nice & helpful lady dun hasten to ask lot of questions.

chummy,
SCDH has two designed invitation Red + Ivory colour. Why not u meet up with Linda, she can show u all kind of invitation cards plus example on how others ex couple designed their cards.

JH,
I booked UOB. Not too wise for me to hv the stay on the same day of my AD cos half the day already been wasted. So I will schedule another day with the hotel which is best timing to me & hubby for relax & enjoy the facilities without rushing.

Hi yuni

Though I like the place but think my FH and parents dun like it. THe layout is really gonna be a headache and my closest jie mei told me against choosing place that's blocked so I guess I should listen to the majority.
happy.gif

My first impression of Linda is also good! But the staffs there came across as unfriendly when I was there and the last time I called. Or maybe they are just really busy as it's CNY. But will definitely go down there for a meal one day.. love the view!!

Hi RainQQ,
My frenz told me intially her mum-in-law complained the restaurant too small & a lot of pillars. But after the wedding in fact no guests complain abt tt. Everybody was busy enjoying the dishes & scenery so they forgot abt the pillars thing.

Thanks Yuni

My first visit was with my dad. My dad didn't strongly object. I brought back the floor plan for my FH to have a look. One look he didn't like the place haha.. but I like it enough to nag him abit to come and see it.

Our second visit was with my mom, dad and my FH. End up my mom and FH further confirm the layout not good. hahaa.. so I kind of reluctantly agree

Come to think about it really funny also.. coz deep down I guess since my side already object the IL will for sure also object ah ahhaha! But I die die must go hit my head against the wall!! Talk about stubborness!

But how many tables your friend has? If less than 20, the layout shouldn't be a prob.
