yah you are correct, it wasn't a $30 difference. me getting old...

Hi Pishako & twinkle,

Which room did you get for your package? And for how many nights? I'm offered Valley Wing Deluxe room but I changed it to Horizon Premier cos the latter is bigger. Is the valley Wing room better?

faith, we got the premier room but from the savings of the tables, we mite be paying for 1 night valley wing suite.

U've to go into the suite to feel the woah-ness. And free flow cocktail for valley wing guests at their exclusive lobby. It's super exclusive n atas one..

Yup, got the horizon premier as well. Faith you on the gold menu issit? Think Valley wing is further away from ballroom so might be harder to change in between, but definitely more plush. Presidents and the like stay there.

Din know flr area-wise it was smaller...!

Hi pishako,

Are u upgrading to the Valley Wing Deluxe Suite or Valley Wing Deluxe Room. One of my concern was the distance from the room to the ballroom. It'll be quite inconvenient to get to the ballroom for the gown change. Moreover the VW deluxe room doesn't come with a seperate living room, it only comes with a bed and a samll coffee table with 2 chairs. If the brothers & jiemeis are to come to the rm, it'll be very cramp. I wanted a more spacious room so I asked for Horizon Club Premier Room, it comes with a seperate living room. Initially, my hubby wanted to upgrade to the VW deluxe Suite but Melanie said we can't. If we want the VW suite, we got to pay the full price which is $1200+++ per rm per night. Even the 1 bedrm VW suite cost $1000 +++ per rm per night. Reason being, there's no upgrade price as the rm accorded is complimetary. She suggested we let the helpers have the accorded rm if we want to opt for the suite. After calculation, think it's not worth it. Will u stick to the VW room if u r in my shoes?

Hi twinkle,

yup, i opted for gold package. Do u think i shd stick to the VW room?

hmmm... personally, I'd stick to the VW rm cos it's entitlement from getting gold menu, plus i'm not keen on ppl crashing my room, so a 'smaller' rm would be a good excuse to keep them out. heh.

but if you are going to be in killer heels like what I expect I'm going to be in, then the less distance to walk between gown changes, the less stressful. so sorry not that helpful.... :P

faith, we were offered the same too... to pay 1k for the suite. If we were to get it, we spend the 1st nite at horizon room.. then 2nd nite at VW suite. Then we keep 2nd nite of horizon room for anniversary stay or smth

Hi, I had a VW room for my wedding. You don't really need to walk back and forth 'cos I think they will give you a room next to the ballroom for you to use and change in (for my case anyway). So actually, I only had to walk from the room at the beginning and then after the dinner. Not that bad.

Hi gals,

thank u so much for the info and advice.

Hi lastminute,

Didn't know there's a room to change in. Mel didn't mentioned. I read from the thread u had your wedding last dec, which package did u take? Was the food good? Did u top up for the floral arrangement?

Hi faith,
Mel only told us about this not too long before our dinner. Which ballroom are you using? I just took the most basic package. Food was good I believe (I didn't really have much of an appetite). Different from the usual wedding menus. I topped up just a bit for flowers. But i used stefii's.

I found Stefii's more flexible than Dolly. Dolly refused to change anything for the centrepieces, even the shape of the glass. No, I didn't top up much. I got a good deal I think.

Hi,

First timer to this thread.
I'm interested in having my banquet at Shangrila.
Saw the package and was wondering if I could bargain for a better deal... But I do not know where to start!!!!
Could someone give me some advice and provide me your contracts so that I can use them for reference?
Thanks!

Hi trinx,

That's the other date i was looking at if i couldn't get 29 sept 07. I'm using Tower Ballroom too! What a coincidence. Just sent u an email.

Hi ladies, haven't been to the forum in ages. didn't realise it has been so active!! alot back reading for me...

Anyway, i think the changing room is next to the Island Ballroom, not the tower. Maybe you would like to double check with Mel?

Hi lastminute, any pictures to share of your ballroom decorations for that night? I'm going to start talking to the florist soon.. hopefully i won't need to top up much.

hi lastmin, can share pics of your decorations and what did you top up on, and how much are the topups?

my email is [email protected]

faith, yah.. there is no changing room for Tower ballroom.. I've asked before.. but honestly, I don't think it's a very long walk. Maybe you can ask Mel to show you the valley wing nt time.. plus VW guests enjoy freeflow cocktail at their exclusive lobby..

Hi hi pishako,

I read from another thread u had your wedding bands custom-made at fairy's inc. Me too! Now we have another thing in common. I think mine's rose gold, not very sure how to tell between the difff type of gold. Evelyn did tell me b4 but i forget liao.

Oh, it's mentiond in the thread u visited 20 bs, must seek your advice when i'm ready to select my bs in sept.
happy.gif

hi faith.. cool.. when are you getting your bands? I still got another 1 mth to go..

haha.. jus be thick skinned and must get your hubby to go.. then can go many BS to try gowns.

Hi pishako,

My ROM was last year so i've been wearing my rings for more than a yr liao. How do u differentiate betwwen the diff. types of gold?

Hi pishako,

My initial wedding band is the eternity series if i'm not wrong. It's a wedding band with a full round of diamonds on it. My hubby's ring is slightly diff. His wedding band is slightly curved down on both sides with a round of diamonds on one side. After my ROM, i kept thinking that our rings look diff, then he bought me another one that's exactly the same as his. Now I'm alternating between the two but to me the first one is my wedding ring cos that's the one we exchanged during our solemnization.

What's your design like?

oh.. think your hubby's one is from the wishes' series.

We customized ours.. I drew up the design for Evelyn. There are designs embossed on both bands(& u can see the design when u put 2 bands tog) and for my band, there is a ring of diamonds on the curved side (sounds like your hubby's band). My FH didn't want any diamond at all.

our bands are a mixture of rose gold, champagne gold and white gold.

That's sounds very very nice! Where did you get your idea from? How much does it cost to do something like that? Must be very ex right? Do show me the pics when it's done.
happy.gif

We heard from Eve how couples customized their bands so I spent some time to plan the design.

My band was supposed to be 1.8K but she counted it under another series.. so it was 1.6K. His was 800++ cos w/o diamonds. I think fairy's inc px is reasonable. Cheaper than Tiff&co.

How much were your bands?

Wow, you are so talented, designing your own wedding bands! Envious envious......... Yours must be very very unique.

I can't really recall how much we spent. Gotta ask my hubby tonight cos he paid for it. Let you know tommorow okie. If i didn't remember wrongly, we spent quite a bit on the diamonds.

Hi Pishako,

Juts checked with my hubby today. We spent abt $7k to $8k for the 3 rings. My first ring is under the enthrall eternity range. Don't mid if i ask, how many ct is the diamond on your ring in total? Cos i wonder why mine is so ex?

Hi Auds,

Your florist is Dolly? When are you going to visit her? Do keep us updated. A few of us are planning to go down sometime... maybe in August.

Hi,

I met up with Sebastian last weekend. I thought the standard centrepieces were rather disappointing - about 5 blooms per centrepiece. I don't know if I should upgrade as upgrading is about $100-$120/centrepiece.

Has anyone met up with Dolly? How are her centrepiece arrangements like?

Thanks!

I don't know if Sebastian only showed us the more expensive upgrades though... he only showed us 2 pictures of upgraded centrepieces which he said was an extra $100 and an extra $120....

We also did'nt quite like his candle stands and organza material decor on the stage (Sebastian's). Fiance didn't like the ferns and the greens but guess no choice cos those are potted plants provided by Shang....

Sigh..

Previous posts mentioned that Dolly's centrepieces are only 3 blooms! Even less! But guess it depends on how much of a flower person you are.

I was at Shang around evening-time once and saw a prepared Island Ballroom. Apparently the couple had opted for gerberas, so there were 3 gerberas on each centrepiece. quite sad looking...

Apparently, there's also an option to go flowerless and just have crystal centrepieces.

Thanks for the suggestion, Twinkle! Perhaps we should consider having non-flower centrepieces then... We're not really flower people. Melanie said there's another florist which Shang will be signing on soon...hopefully there are more set-ups to choose from.

cactus,

Great that they are exploring another florist!!

Hopefully they can be more generous. I think Shang must be the only hotel in the 4-5 star range that has such sparse looking centrepieces. Kinda impt cos the guests will be staring at those three blooms the whole night if we go for the individual plated service.

Pro,

I know Jean and Melanie are still around, not sure about a Wendy... if she's your coordinator Shang should inform you if she quit right?

Hi Twinkle, I think Shang is not as generous as other hotels regarding the budget that they give their florists... Actually, Melanie said Shang had shortlisted 2 florists, but one fell through and the second is likely to be signed on...
Am keeping my fingers tightly crossed.

So sad... for the princely sum we're paying for each table, you'd expect that they can allocate more to flowers.
nono.gif

at most $10 a centrepiece if I DIY! But of course I'm not crazy enough to DIY for so many tables on my own AD......

Yeah.. I think it's impossible to DIY the centrepieces! :P I probably have to think up something in the event we decide not to upgrade cos we are going for plated service (so that our guests would not need to reach out and serve themselves). We don't want the table to look too bare...

Twinkle

Im juz checking cuz she was the one who handed my friend's wedding back in 2004 whom done a great job back then.

While i had mine in shang long way back.

Hi twinkle,

We top up for our centerpieces and we uses steffi. Great feedback from all my guests that the ballroom is done up nicely and it looks great with the fairylights on stage.

Hi pishako,

cant recalled exactly how much i spent, estimated cost is $10-20 per table and additional stands ard $60-80.

As i did mention in here months ago, it may not be wise to top up too much for the centrepieces because it will be removed once dinner commence unless ur serving fushion or your guests are individually serve.
