Shangri-la Hotel

Hi girls!

Know what? I also got a problem with Shang's location. Now also thinking very hard if i should arrange for transport from the MRT station.. but my colleagues were telling me no point.. since most of the time people might be late and there'll be lots of prob waiting at the mrt stn..esp when some are late etc. Sigh...

Hey count, what wedding preps are you doing during weekends now? I'm still not doing anything leh.. hehehe give me some ideas so i can get working!
happy.gif
My 1st fitting will only be somewhat the skeleton of the gown. I told my designer to put on hold the embroidery first. Would like to see the entire gown first before deciding. Anyway not in a rush.. when's your PS?

Yup i agree with the girls here that Melanie's great!
happy.gif
Oh btw, Eileen and count, i'm free on weekday nights too. Except Wed and Fri.
happy.gif
I'm also pretty puzzled when i heard that there would be surprises given by the hotel.. what sort of surprise?
happy.gif

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the info on parking, flowers etc...
kao_smile.gif

I think my coordinator is going to be Jean. Anyone has her as coordinator too?

I think about location and starting late, I suppose there's no guarantee that guests will turn up early even if your hotel is right next to an MRT station. I had a friend who was So Determined to start on time, that he kept telling all his guests that it will really really start at 7:30pm. He also gave a heads up to the kitchen and most people cooperated, and food was served promptly at 7:40pm! Which was one of the earliest I've ever experienced. But I guess it'll be harder to pull off if you have many many tables....
kao_sad2.gif

Btw, I don't think surprises are referred to in a good way, so best that there are no "surprises" on the actual day.
kao_happy.gif

Hi Count, I was previously working in London. and yar, I know your FH.....I met you and your FH over CNY and at a mutual friend's house. How's the wedding preps coming along? Fiance and I are quite keen to hold our wedding dinner at the Shang's Tower ball room as well, but depending on the numbers, it could either be the Shang or Ritz.....

Count and Kyrie,

I've noted the times, probably mon/tue evenings after 7pm). Dolly's located at Joan Road (near TCS). I heard that Sebs usually meet somewhere central. As for steffi's, I have no idea. Let me give them a call first to find out more.

Biba,

Is there Qi-wah? Will keep a lookout for it in future.
happy.gif
Throwing that into congee is to make my soft diet more "pleasant" during my braces days.

Nope, haven't got the chance to sample Central's food. What about Tong Shui at Zion Road? Have you tried that? Seemed to have lots of rave reviews on it.

Count,

Do note that if you're choosing the cards, you can opt to choose more than one design (provided the second or third design has the same "flap"). Similarly, you can opt for more ribbon colors. And if the colors are not what you want, you can try to discuss with Melanie on other options.

Hey Biba,
i actually lost 0.5kg after my trip despite eating lots! must be the walking i did... but then again, i've been "catching up" on local foods lately since i was back so this may change. kekeke. u mean it's ur anniversary already? when was ur AD? wow time really flies! sure it doesn't feel like u've been married for almost a yr?

U extended 3 nights meaning tt u stayed 4 nights in all? Sounds really really relaxing leh. Cos Shang has this resort oasis feel tt's away from the city. We actually tot of staying 3 nights before gg on honeymoon but must see if got enuf leave...

Biba and Eileen, i love egg rolls and love letters. All the talk abt egg rolls is making me drool and u tell me it's not available here in spore?! *pouts*

Kyrie, i think u can start looking at florists and caterers, as well as music for the church and banquet? My PS will be in early-mid July, before 7th month so hopefully my gowns will be ready soon!

Twinkle, i think most of us are under Melanie. Didn't hear of Jean before, is she new? Ur fren was really lucky to start on time. We want to start on time but think it'll be tough esp cos relatives like to arrive late. How did ur fren do it?

Eileen and Kyrie, Sebs is actually very near me and Kyrie's place. It's just down Upp Paya Lebar Road. Sure u've passed by the huge nursery there. If u all drive we can head there directly so Sebs can show us samples of flowers? O/w somewhere central is ok as well. Dolly's is near Mt Alvernia and opp MacRitchie, but quite a walk in. Don't know if it'll be dark by then cos i went in the morning last time. But if us 3 girls go tog shd be okie...

Ahhhh... Okie useful info to note abt the cards. Thanks eileen babe...

Kismet23, i know who u are already! The fren's house was in Tiong Bahru area right? Have u gone down to view both ballrooms yet, and check if they're available? Decided on ur date yet? Go make an appt with Melanie if u haven't, cos she's been great so far
happy.gif

Btw how did u figure out who i was?

Hi count, yes i'm back.. Super bogged down with work recently. And unfortunately, no progress with regards to wedding preparations, so no questions to ask you very experienced ladies. =)

Well, i am slated to meet up with Kai this sat to discuss my WG. So that's quite exciting.. this might sound a little silly but is there anything which i need to prepare for this 'discussion'??
Other than that, my EG and teadress are already work in progresss... hope it turns out well. (fingers crossed tight!)

Oh, one question: anyone going to the bridal fair near bugis this weekend? Do you think it's gonna be worth our while?

Eileen,

Yes,its Qi-wah! They sold mooncakes here last year but din see their egg rolls...sob sob..
Nope i haven't try the one at zion rd? any address, near great world anot? Wanted to try auth HK stuff!!!

Count,
No lar, we are only into our 3+ months of marriage! Not yet anniversary, I meant to go NATAS in sept to book for my dec trip as we thot of celebrating wedding anniversary then. But time really flies!!!

Auds,
You are from Kai? My sis is oso having him. Is your EG & teadress part of the package too? Coz I heard teadress is not incl. How's your design for both like? My sis has not start her designing yet, heard somewhere in jun. When is ya AD?

Hi Biba,
Kai's only doing my WG, EG is a lace cheongsam from Amor Meus and the tea dress will be done by a personal friend.

I'm getting married in Oct, so i hope i'm not too late in my preparations. I dun intend to have a photoshoot so i suppose that gives me some leeway in terms of gown designing..

Auds, u may want to show him pics of gowns tt u like, or certain colours tt u have in mind for ur EG. And perhaps ur ceremony and banquet venue, cos a more grand venue may suit a more formal and grand gown etc... When will ur EG and tea dress be ready? What colours are they? So u're not wearing kua and putting on a tea dress instead?

Biba, so Qi-wah will only be back during mooncake festival? Where was their booth last time? Taka or Great World?

Oh i see... 3+ months of marital bliss. Haha. Tt's why i got a shock when u said anniversary cos i tot we just saw ur photos recently! Where are u planning to go in Dec? Btw, where is ur sis holding her dinner? Prob not Shang right, cos both ur ADs are so close?

Hey girls,
any of u all going this wkend for the outdoor wedding fair? we'll prob go on sat evening to just check out the vendors. toying with the idea of a real wedding cake and saw tt pine garden will be there so gd chance to check it out
happy.gif

Heya Count, it's not very difficult to guess who I am and indeed our friend's place was at Tiong Bahru =)

Guessed who you were from your earlier postings on this thread. Anyway, we've actually popped down to Shang before to view the Tower ballroom. Can't remember what it was like though, but I was really quite impressed with the Pavilion (it was all done up prettily for a wedding luncheon when we visited). I've attended wedding dinners at the Ritz before, so probably know what it's like. Can I have the contact details for your wedding co-ord at Shang? Thanks!!

Still at work right now, feeling quite sian....

Kismet, wah working until so late? Poor thing... Must try to rest more cos ur ROM is coming up right? Have u settled most of the details for it?

Our coordinator is Melanie Teo. U can call her at 6213 4241 or email her at [email protected] she's quite prompt in her email replies also. U can tell her tt we recommended u. Haha. Maybe she may treat u better! Just kidding... But she's been great so far. We'll be gg down in May to liaise with her so if u want to meet her tog with us, we could set sth up. Best time to go is on Sat afternoons when the wedding set up would have been done for the ballroom
happy.gif
Tried to PM u but u don't accept PMs?

Twinkle, any gd news fr u yet? Have u confirmed ur venue yet?

Twinkle, Cactus, Suyin, how's ur hunt for banquet venue going? Provide ur details for Eileen babe to update the table if u're joining our happy family! Hee hee

Hi Count,
We'll be meeting up with Melanie next weekend.Am considering Tower Ballroom.Don't really have any alternative places in mind though. If Tower Ballroom doesn't work out, then stress again.

Auds,
Oh so you will not be having PS. So will you be taking more pictures during your AD morning?

count,
I managed to see Qi-wah during mooncake festival last year at Taka booth! I dunno abt elsewhere. Any gals know? Maybe this year they will be selling again at Taka but dun remember seeing the egg rolls?? Will update you shd I see any store around...hahaha..*drool*

Yup 3+ months of marital bliss! We plan to go to the States coz europe will be very much colder, I cannot stand too low temp.
Well,my sis is not having her dinner at Shang but elsewhere. Hers is one year after mine!!
So how's ya prep so far? Remember to show me ya dress photos when they are ready ok?

Cactus79,
I am sure Tower will suit your wedding. High ceiling,no pillars, nice lightings, large space. Are you having lots of guests? Opt for Island if you do then if budget is not too much of a concern. With their excellent service, wouldn't mind paying more. Hope your meeting with Mel is smooth!!

Eileen,

Any idea if this is sold locally? So far, I have seen it during the Food fair during last march at Suntec coz I grabbed 2 tins. This is better than wing-wah,its choi-heong-yuen bakery from Macau. It is much more crispy, I prefer this & kee-wah's to wing-wah.

Count,
This is another of my fav brand. They sell delicious egg rolls esp. with pork floss yum yum..from Macau, very famous.
Oh dear, side track from wedding preps..hahaha..
;p

Thanks for the warm welcome, count! Any reason why that's your nick?

I tried to paste the following in table form but it didn't quite come out, so here goes:

nick: Twinkle
ROM: 17 Mar 06
AD: 17 Mar 06
Venue: Tower Ballroom
BS: tbc
PS Photog: tbc
AD Photog: personal friend
VG: tbc
Lovenest: tbc

I'm going to see Jean soon to discuss, but most likely the Tower ballroom will be most appropriate. Anyone else has Jean as coordinator?

Two of my friends got married in Shangri-la in 2004 and 2005, and they were saying that the overall experience was great. So I'm looking forward to it!
kao_happy.gif

Hi count, i'm due for the first fitting for the EG in late May (i think.. can't really remember). And yes, no kua for me. Just a short cheongsam as the tea dress. Figured it's much easier to move around too.. Coz the bridal car is quite low so it might be tough trying to get in and out of the car gracefully.

No PS, just the actual day photos. The photographer will then put the pictures into a coffee table book. Saw a Ray Ong one at Ted Wu when i was there sometime back.. it was really well put together.

Was at the Shangrila for a corporate dinner 2 sats ago and decided to peep into the ballroom to have a look. That night's flowers were abit sparse for my personal liking. So i was wondering if anyone here has gone down to the Shang florists to check them out yet? What is the amount for topups if we want more blooms? Are we lookin in the region of 1-3K or 5-10K?

Cactus, why wouldn't Shang work out? U mean no available dates or space constraint? Don't stress, Melanie is a nice lady and u're in gd hands. Very impressed cos she is organised and efficient so far... When is ur intended AD?
happy.gif

Biba, the pics u post are making me very very hungry *drool* i love pork floss keropok, but have only tried those fr Bangkok. Aiyo, if only can ship into Singapore. Oh... Ask my fren to buy back for me! She's going next wk i just realised!!! Hahahahah

Yes yes, will share my photos when they're ready. At least July/August cos my PS is in July... So u helping ur sister plan her wedding? Btw, which part of US are u planning to go? if u're gg to west coast i just came back fr there, may be able to help u with any info if u need. i'm also scared of cold, and it was still quite cold when we went last month. It shd get warmer by June though... We love US so much! Shopping is fantastic, food is great (tho a little ex). Would love to go to NY if i had the chance and $!!!

Twinkle, welcome dear! Have the nick cos it's FH's nick. Was kind of lazy to think of a new nick cos i have no nick and usually use my own name! :D Seems like Jean is a new coordinator cos i only heard of Melanie and Wendy so far. How many tables will u be having?

Auds, yes, a short CS would be gd as a tea dress. But since i'm wearing a long CS for night, tot i'd wear the kua instead... Ah no PS means less stress and more time to design the gowns, which is much easier for u. Cos i think the guest list and other things will be a major headache! Btw, forgot to ask - are u having a church ceremony as well? Ray Ong will be doing my AD photos, who did u get for urs. Eager to see ur gowns cos Kai has done many pretty gowns with the princessy sweet look, which i adore! Would prob have gone with Kai had i not signed with Sil. Too bad cos i didn't go visit and signed up quite early on...

Anyways, the std floral set up is 3 blooms per non-VIP table. It is a little sparse. If u want to top up, i'm sure Dolly does top ups but not sure how much she charges. I know Seb does a wonderful job with flowers - he did a very elaborate job for my fren which turned out great! Plenty of red roses, and a generally reddish theme for Tower. But very ex. Think u're looking at a range of $8K onwards...

Why don't u come visit the florists with me, Eileen and Kyrie?

Eileen babe, are we going to the florists soon? Have u been busy? Do u need help with the coordination?
happy.gif

Have a gd weekend girls! It's almost the end of the workday *yippee*

hi Auds,

The usual guests table comes with 3 blooms in the package be it with any florists. It looks sparse but unless you will be having side serving dinner ie. not the usual family portion serving, the centerpieces will be removed from the table. Upgrading in this case is not necessary. However, if you opt for side serving, then to upgrade them will be more appropriate. However, I agreed with the previous co-ordinator advice;ie. unless the centerpiece is large enough, otherwise it will be barely noticed. Most of the time, only the bride is the only one who fret abt tiny stuff like dat, the guests focus is on you & not the flowers...hahaha...
Another option w/o topping up is to get the crystal table stands if you choose dolly. It has some height so the table won't look bare compare to the 3 blooms.
If you ask abt the top up cost;its up to your budget. Dolly is abe to work ard your means, be it $300 or $500. Seb is more creative if you ask me,but expect to pay premium for his work. Can be 8-10k for a more elaborated decor. Take a look at his portfolio, you will know wat I mean. But his hotel package w/o top up is also very classic & victorian compare to Dolly. (IMO lar)Dolly has got her 'usual' signature style of decor, unless you specifically tell her what you want the ballroom to look.

Twinkle,
congrats! Hope things work out for you at Shang. I heard Jean is a new colleague. Mine is a handover case to Mel. But Mel is equally good.

Count, Wendy is doing other portfolio now. Anyway, Shang has got high reputation,no worries at all. Just keep your mind open to better suggestion along the way.
Btw,so envy you. Hope I have somebody going to HK/Macau to bring me some goodies!!
Oh,I plan to go to California,LA, Florida. Love to go NYC esp. to visit their wallstreet. Hahaha..perhaps next time I am able to work in wallstreet too!!!*dream*

Have a gd wkends!!!

HI count,
Good to see u're back!.. Glad to hear u had a great time in LV...
How's ur planning so far? FOr me, i had to have my gowns MTM, so going for 1st appt end apr.
Coz I'll b going LA for 2 wks from next week on. Short trip to visit sis.

Eileen, count, kyrie, When u gals going to visit florist? Can i come along too? But i was wondering if its alittle too early to see florist now? I'm avaiable tues nites.

Are u gals, getting ur invites ready too?

Cheers!!! have a great wkend!!

Hi girls!

Whiteangelz, Eileen and count,
happy.gif
I'm fine with Tues nights too. Hee whiteangelz, think we'll just drop by to see see look look..perhaps source for ideas and all. Think it's too early to confirm anything with the florists yet too since my AD's in Dec.

Hey twinkle, your AD's in Mar 06? Or was it a typo? Hee cos i read that you were going to meet your coordinator, Jean, soon..

Biba dearie,
if u need info for LA and California let me know cos i just came back from there! Would love to go back to US and visit NYC soon. Fingers crossed tt my fren will shift there to work and find gd accommodation so i can stay there free! Hee. When do u plan to go US and for how long? Shd fly SQ if ur budget permits. UA was ok but the food was pathetic. Imagine - they served us cup noodles for dinner!

Whiteangelz, u're also going to US? Lucky u. I want to go back to US soon but must see how broke we are after the wedding. Hopefully the AP will cover most of the dinner costs *fingers crossed*

Twinkle, ur AD shd be Mar 07 right? Typo right? So have u decided on ur no of tables and other wedding vendors?

Hey Kyrie, Whiteangelz, Eileen, Auds and anyone else i missed out,
Shall we arrange to visit the florists on a Tue evening then, say at 7.15pm or so? Cos i figure we would need time to make our way there esp since they're not near MRT stations. Kyrie and Whiteangelz ah, i think can look see what Dolly has for church weddings as well cos i'm still looking for a church florist... How abt u girls?

WEnt to the Bugis fair yesterday. NOthing much leh. Only the cakes from Pine Garden i found interesting and delicious. Their lychee martini is a very refreshing change... now toying with the idea of a real wedding cake again!
happy.gif

Auds, how was ur meeting with Kai? Decided on ur WG design yet?

Kyrie, have u met any of the caterers for church so far? How much is ur budget per pax? I'm still undecided... argh...

Hi count, meeting with Kai went really well.. although come to think of it, we didn't really spend THAT much time talking about the WG. He was askin me abt the theme i want for the wedding, wat is the look i want to protray, any special details i want on the gown, etc etc.. he's super friendly and a charm to work with. I just hope that the WG turns out really well too. I guess it helps that he comes across as very reassuring and experienced.

He did tell me to go buy my wedding shoes before i see him next as he will be ready to take measurements by then. So ladies, have you all gotten ur shoes yet? oh shucks! another headahce for me!!

Was in the Killiney area today and parked opposite Steffi's Florist.. Correct me if i'm wrong, but are they a florist with the Shang? Unfortunately it was too early and the shop was closed so i couldn't go inside to find out.

And count, like yourself, i am sold on the idea of a real wedding cake. I haven't gotten down to the details of it yet, but i am REALLY tempted. Anyone else here has managed to find out how much a decent sized one costs? Or better still, anyone here already booked one?

Hi Biba,

That is making me drool too! I think I saw it on TV the other day (some fiona xie programme). And it's freshly made on the spot!

I don't think they're available commercially. Got to look out for them during events at Ngee Ann City and Food Fair.

The HK style cha chang teng is at zion road, just next to the market (opposite Great World City). Can't miss it.

Count,

If you're in bangkok, might want to try rice crackers from Kaotang. Can get them at Siam Paragon, but I prefer to buy them direct at Silom area. The ones with cashew nuts are really yummy!

http://www.kaotang.com/

Count, Whiteangelz and Kyrie,

My fiance would try to arrange for us. He's the co-ordintaor for such things. Let us contact them and see whether it's more convenient meeting at a central place or at their office. I heard that Sebs prefer to meet outside. We drive, so distance shouldn't be a problem
happy.gif

It's never to early to source for ideas. It's good to know what available and what's not. At least we can adjust our expectations level. I don't think the florist expect confirmation until 4-6 weeks before wedding.

Auds,

I think Steffi's the backup florist, even though I don't understand what's a backup for!

Count and Auds,

If you're thinking of getting real wedding cakes for the dinner, I'm afraid the choices are quite limited. I've asked Melanie during our initial meeting a few months back. It'll cost $3 per person for plating service if the cake's from an external source. It's free if you get the cake from The Line. Can't recall what's the pricing like from The Line.

Most common places for wedding cakes are Cake Avenue, The Patissier, Canele, Sherylchuen (?) and Pine Gardens. Not too sure about costs, but I recall it's usually about $500 and up, depending on size and design.

I'm also toying with the idea of a real cake, but probably for the church reception.

Count & Kyrie,

Are you guys going for the Rasel event on 23rd April? We're also sourcing for caterers and that'll be the first one we're visiting.

hi gals,

Hmm..real wedding cakes, that's wat I thot of before but I din have it as there are so many advices, telling me that no one will have the stomach for cakes esp. when they had the dinner. I had a cake for my HB, I order a 3kg & intended to share it with my guests, but thank goodness, everyone turn us down when we offer the slice. I am left with a 3/4 cake which cost me close to $250 wasted.

I know that the line cake cost abt $65/kg previously(1kg serve 10pax). Perhaps you gals can check it out again in case they have change their pricing. A decent wedding cake may required more than 5kg(single tier),a min otherwise it doesn't look good on stage if it is tiny. Most wedding cake comes with at least a 3tier,guess it will be more than 10kg?Eileen,$500 is min if you have watch the channel U wed's show at 8pm. Some even cost $800.The Patissier is a gd choice, they have very nice engagement/announcement cakes too!!!

Btw,I will try the zion rd stall...yeah...

Auds,
Kai sounds like a fantastic guy to work with! So easygoing and friendly. Sure ur WG will turn out great. So how many more appts do u have with him before ur gown design is finalised? re shoes, i bought a pair at Silverline at $30! *gasp* actually wanted to use it for other functions but cannot find suitable shoes within my budget so far. So i figured tt since the shoes were high enuf (3-inch), i'd just use them cos my BS needs me to have the shoes by end of this month... Think if u have time, since no PS, u can try custom-made ones at Leapin Liz*rds or Par*dox, but slightly more ex

Seems tt Stefii's is no longer with Shang cos Melanie only mentioned Sebs and Dolly when i spoke to her last wk...

Eileen,
Ur FH is such a nice dude to coordinate everything for u. So sweet, cos he seems so involved in the wedding process. Okie, look fwd to meeting u girls such as Eileen, Kyrie, Whiteangelz then. Quite eager to see how u girls look like cos we've been chatting for quite a bit! Hehehe

Eileen and Biba,
u girls are the real foodies like me leh. I love food too, in fact i'm now eating chocolate! But must watch my wt, cos i went for CS fitting on Sat and it was slightly tight ard the tummy!

Hey girls,
Re wedding cakes, we tried Pine G*rden over the weekend. Their lychee martini is very unique and a must get if u buy ur cake fr them. But i think it's kind of costly also. So far the various shops have diff styles -
(a) PG is famous for its flowers and cream frosting, and flavours
(b) Patissier has very unique designs but even more ex then PG
(c) Cheryl Sh*en uses a lot of marzipan and colours, as well as Precious Moments cake toppers

Wah but the cost of cutting the cake to distribute is very high i think... So may have to re-think abt cake for dinner

Btw, Angeli (a caterer) offers genuine wedding cake for free if u have at least 400 guests. The designs can be quite similar to PG but taste and flavour wise i'm not sure. Cos we went down to visit them last week but only tried their food not cake. So i guess if u have 400 guests, can consider
happy.gif

Patissier has very unique designs but even more ex then PG

Pat is GOOD... I LOVE IT.
If any1 wishes to purchase cakes from them, i suggest you go down real early cuz their cakes are selling faster then my food craving....
happy.gif

Hi girls!

Wah the posts are so long!
happy.gif
Hee have been so busy at school today. Sigh.. though i'm home now, still got loads of things to clear!!!!
sad.gif

Anyway, yup a Tuesday evening is fine. Are you all bringing FHs along? Or only all girls' out? Hee count, i'm eager to meet you all too. Hahah
happy.gif

Count, nope i haven't met any church caterers yet. Have only tried Neo garden catering so far and i find them not bad.. know we've got lots of choices but am really clueless about them!

Anyway, have you all drawn up your guests list yet? When do we need to confirm the no. of tables with Shang?

Hi Count, your CS is being done by Kim right? how did it turn out? Exactly what you wanted? Show us pictures when it's done ya?

I think i have abt 2 more meetings with Kai before the 1st fitting.. Am not too sure actually. he just told me to call them next month to look at the design and take measurements. I also have to get my shoes by then... Was hoping to find a good buy at the recent on pedder sale but unfortunately, the sizes available were all too big.

Yeah, i agree that a real cake is an indulgence and prob. won't be noticed by that many pple huh? oh well, i'll just see how my budget works out. I've already busted the budget with all my planned expenditure (minus the cake) as it is... (oops)

I've been lookin ard for wedding bands and i think i'm prob. just goin to go back to larrys to get them custom made. They are kind pricey though (1k for a white gold simple band in men's size).. do you think fairy's inc would be cheaper? Else, have u ladies heard of Ova (?) at scotts?

I'm trying to find a wedding band which matches my engagement ring as well as looks nice on it's own... tough deal huh?
Are you all trying to match the 2 rings too?

Hi Biba,

Think it's still at $65/kg. Just imagine - $65 *55 = $3575! I can custom make another EG for that price.

Yeah I caught that programme, but did they state the price? I missed bits and pieces of it, so not too sure. I just saw PG. What's the ones before that?

The Patissier's engagement cakes are very nice! Unfortunately too expensive... about $10 min for 1 small small muffin sized cake.

Pro,

You can always call up and reserve the cakes from Patissier. Usual style would be to ask what's the flavours available for the day, and collect it after work. I think canele works the same way too (haven't tried though since it has longer operating hours and they have a kitchen!).

Other places for yummy cakes include
- Paris Gourmand, next to Coronation Plaza
- Jane's cake station at Jalan Kayu
- PS Cafe at Harding Road

Auds,

Went to On Peddar Ngee Ann City on sat, but didn't find anything suitable for weddings. How high are you looking at? Have you tried Stuart Weitzman just opposite?

Hi Count - thanks for the offer but will prob not be around much in Sg in May. Our ROM is at end May and after that we're off to the US for a holiday. Not very much to do for the ROM since we're both not really fussed.

BTW, if you gals are into shoes, I saw a most gorgeous pair of shoes which are PERFECT for brides at a JIMMY CHOO boutique, but it comes with a jaw-dropping price tag of S$1k.....

Pro,
Long time no see, where have u been? I see u've been feeding urself well with Pat's cakes. Me too! In fact, i've a weakness for Prego's choc cake and just ate 2 huge slices of it! It's the nearest choc fix i can get cos i work ard the area...

Kyrie
Looks like it's back to the hustle and bustle of sch for u. Me too, trying to settle into work after 2 wks holiday is very tough. I'll prob come alone cos FH usually has to work late and i told him tt i'd go florist shopping with other girls cos he's clueless abt flowers. He's i/c of honeymoon while i look after church deco and caterers.

Re guest list, i tot the final table count is only 1 wk before hand. Seem to remember Mel saying sth like tt altho we must have the min no of tables in the contract...

Auds
How come u busted ur expenditure? Was it on gowns? Yes, i love cakes too so a real wedding cake would be great. But looks like real wedding cakes are very ex... Sigh

Just bought my wedding bands over the wkend at LH. Very simple plain bands w/o diamonds, just the way we wanted it. Actually wanted to customake but FH's cousin works there and gave us a very gd discount, so decided to just buy it instead. Cos PS in July doesn't give us much time to customake. But my frens have used Fairy's Inc and Carat Club with gd reviews. Didn't hear of Orva tho. As for Larry's, only know of a fren who bought her engagement ring there, and she hasn't bought her bands yet. My wedding band will match my engagement ring, altho there is a slight gap cos the setting of my diamond is somewhat lower than usual...

Btw, where are the pics of the shoe from? Like the bigger pic! Very pretty! Must be very ex? When u mentioned on pedder, i tot u meant the warehouse sale at raffles city last fri. Cos my fren brought me there and it was a madhouse! Pple bought many many pairs and we left empty handed cos no more sizes *pouts*

Kismet
No worries, just let us know if u're headed down to take a peek. Have told Mel ur names and tt u may be interested, so she'll prob remember if u make an appt to visit her. Feel free to drop me a PM if u need help. And have fun in the US! We just came back from there 2 wks ago, very fun and wish we could go back too!
happy.gif

Eileen,

oh the price is remains unchanged. Hmm..expect to spend substantial amount on a decent wedding cake but look at 'em,they are so beautiful.

hahaha..my memory's a little fading..i think b4 PG is The Patisser-a lady & a guy designer (she mentioned her own wedding recently, she had abt 80 real cakes!!!wow..). They mentioned a nice creative wedding cake can start from $800,the one they showed & make in the programme. AFter this, followed with Pine Garden's,theirs are home business..the one the cousin made like a 'present' that comes with 3 different layers of flavours cost $500. Very nice also.
I used to check with Patisser on their small marzipan cake (small icing coated cake-guest favours) cost about $12-$15 per piece! Its not cheap.

Hi Biba, Hi Count!
My AD is September 07.Quite some time to go, but heard Shang has opened for 2007 so hope to find out more and see if it is suitable. We're not keen to go for Island cos we don't have many tables ..weekend is 550 pax.To be honest, if I can make up 550pax, I'd prob go for Ritz cos it's only 60tables and Ritz is better located than Shang and is probably the only 6 star hotel in Singapore. The food at Summer Pavilion is nicer than at Shang Palace too - normal eating, not banquet though... Cos we couldn't make up even 550pax, we only considered Fullerton and Shang.. but I'm so clumsy, I'm positively going to trip down Fullerton's ballroom steps.. so am only eyeing Shang. However, if Shang doesn't appeal, for whatever reason.... then we don't really know where else to go.... Good thing is AD is still a very long way to go so no point worrying cos have not even met up with Mel yet.
happy.gif

Hi all!

Sorry I haven't been replying because I was away on leave and then on course... and then there was all the backlog of work to catch up on!

Yup, sorry it's Mar 07, my AD... thanks for doing up the list! I'm looking at around 50 tables, which is why Shang was left as one of the few options. But every bride I spoke to whose had their wedding at Shang had only glowing things to say about the experience, so I'm glad the way things turned out!

About the rings, I was thinking of continuing to wear my engagement ring on my right hand and wearing my wedding band on the left. But was wondering whether that would expose the diamond engagement ring to more wear and tear since right hand moves around more... already got a few scratches on the band...
kao_cry.gif
Also, was wondering if my left hand will feel quite heavy/uncomfortable if I wear both. Guess I'll only know when I try them on.

I love Le Patissier's minature marzipan cube cakes. They are so lovely, when my friend and I dropped by she wanted to buy one just to put on her office desk to look at. But you have to pre-order, so we couldn't buy immediately. I don't think I'll get a real wedding cake. Shang already provides one tier of real cake right? I was wondering how we are going to cart it back since I don't think the dinner guests will be eating it!

Hi

Count

Ya im been a faithful patron for Patissier's cakes since they were at Ang Siang. I always end up inside looking at the wide selection of cakes and chitting with Leong - Not with Pat anymore.

Twinkle

Remember to send both your rings to do some cleaning/polishing as it helps to bring back the shine of your diamond. It may not be able to get rid of the scratches but it does make it look brand new cuz of the shine.
happy.gif

Yes shang provides one tier of cake, but its only abt <=1kg. So no worries abt having to move it ard.

Hi ladies,

twinkle, yes like pro said, the genuine cake from shang is juz a small cake with marzipan coating.
The normal 0.5-1kg kinda size,so no worries abt bringing it back home!!!

cactus,
You still have a long way to your AD to source for venue. take your time to pick the best.
I used to shortlist Ritz carlton but I am very displeased with the co-ordinator,hence my HB decided to drop it from our list. Not to bad mouth them but my experience with Shang is so much better than Ritz. Perhaps mine was an isolated case. Anyway, my wedding event handled by Shang was a perfect one.

Hi Biba, It's been great reading about Shang from this thread. I'm glad u gals had a good experience. I'm looking forward to meeting up with Melanie this weekend.
happy.gif

Hey Eileen, nice shoes! You bought them??? Hee i'm thinking of my shoes too. Love those at Paradox but it's really pricey and dunno how often i'll get to wear them again after the WG..

Hi count, yup i'll be going alone. Cos my FH works late on weekdays too.. You drive? Honestly, i dunno where the florists are.. Hee

Biba
U mean u had a groom's cake for ur hubby? What type of design did u have for it? Was ur hubby surprised or did he know beforehand?

Cactus
It's never too early to start planning and booking ur banquet venue. Esp since sporeans are so KS and book so far in advance. Tt's why once we had our hearts set on Shang we signed the contract early on. Perhaps an easier way to go abt it is by elimination - whether u can make up the 60 tables required by Ritz. Cos if u can, can pick btw Shang and Ritz. O/w, u'd have to go with Shang since u're not comfy with the steps in Fullerton. Actually we loved Fullerton too, but i'm also a clumsy girl so it was definitely a bad choice for me! Certainly not graceful for a bride to stumble on the steps on her AD!

No worries, just arrange to meet up with both hotels and see which venue and coordinator u can get along with better. Things may just work out! And do keep us posted on ur decision!

Twinkle
I also have scratches on my engagement band already, even tho i try to be careful with it. As for wearing one ring on each hand, think it's more common locally. Cos i was told tt it is a western practice to wear both rings tog on the same finger. Think it's ultimately personal pref - cos i'm more clumsy and careless, wearing both on one hand would minimise scratches
happy.gif

Pro, Twinkle, Biba, Eileen
Patissier has gorgeous cakes! Was it them tt had the chocolate bomb for their anniversary? Can't remember whether it was them or Canele but the cake was simply gorgeous and delicious! Very unique - first time i ever saw a ball-shaped cake!

Btw girls, what flavour is the cake provided by Shang? Is it just a plain cake with marzipan coating or does it have some pattern on it?

Eileen, Kyrie
We went for the Rasel fair previously. The food was ok but we didn't select them cos we felt tt we couldn't get along with the salesperson who attended to us as she was quite pushy and inflexible. So still hunting ard for a caterer. Intending to visit Fost*e and Lavish soon cos they've received gd reviews. Have tried Angeli already, which is not bad. Their manager seems quite earnest as well

Re florists
Shd be all right whether we go with or w/o FHs right? I have no issues whether it is an all-girls or mixed outing kekeke. Sad to say, i don't drive. My licence is a "white elephant" since i got it 2 yrs ago cos FH drives me ard most of the time. Heh. Am happy to meet Sebs at somewhere central though, cos i work in City Hall area. Shd be able to make it anytime after 6.30

Kind of sian cos new boss, so everyone has been working harder than usual. Coming in more punctually, no more longer than usual lunches to squeeze in desserts, and no more gym sessions during lunch for me. Sob sob

Btw, which area do u girls work in?
happy.gif

Hi,

The larger picture's from Vera Wang. Smaller picture from Paradox (available at Essex Walk). Unfortunately, closed toes don't suit me, so nope, they're not mine. Was scouting the net for shoes suitable for a friend.

Didn't manage to go to the Sale at Raffles City, but went to the shop - promptly ignored since I was quite badly dressed that day. Where's the Jimmy Choos boutique?
--

Regarding Pine Garden, I had a chance to taste it at one wedding years ago, and it was good. In fact, I thought it was the hotel's (Conrad) cake!

So lucky of you guys to view the collection of cakes. Usually by the time I'm there, it's a few pieces left... So we always call up to reserve, and beg them to close a little later.

I think the "bomb" cake was canele right? Read about it somewhere... my memory's also getting quite bad.

--
We've managed to call Dolly this afternoon. She suggested that we take a look at the decor first before meeting her so that we'll know what she's "talking" about. It'll be easier to visualise when looking at the photos/props during the meeting. She's very nice talk to though. There's a wedding this friday at the Island. No top ups. Another one this Sunday.

Probably we'll take a look before confirming a meeting. She requires 1 or 2 days' notice and even though her official hours are till 6pm, she'll stay on if we can only make it later. So we'll confirm the dates again later (would be a tuesday evening about 7.15pm at Dolly's place).

Didn't call Sebs as I feel it's better to view one first, and then arrange for another. Easier to digest as well.
happy.gif

Hi ladies,

Count,
de groom's cake for hubby is a 3D type, his fav sport 3D. Nope it was kept secret until near towards the end of dinner!!! He is very shock when he saw it..
kao_clap.gif

Hmm..the hotel genuine cake is coated with marzipan,no design on the coating except for wired icing flowers w/ribbon place on top. They will keep it in a normal cake carrier box for you to bring home!
kao_cheers.gif

Hi Count!
Thanks for your advice. We've a date in mind for AD already but if Shang's taken before we sign the contract, we may go to a restaurant instead. FH is not too keen on restaurant, but it doesn't matter so much to me.I don't know if I'm being too practical ... it's like, if cannot find suitable hotel, no point settling for something less than suitable right? Might as well go for a suitable restaurant. Unfortunately, at the moment, Shang is the only suitable hotel... hee. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to meeting Melanie this weeekd - after hearing raving comments about her. Let's see if things work out. Will update!!

Hi Eileen,

Thanks for replying
happy.gif
was wonderng whether Melanie was willing to waive the cockage on hard liquor for you? Am having a military wedding and there are lots of "alcoholics". I just attended a wedding of my sec school mate last sat. Was very impressed by the decor and the service. food was good too less a number of dishes that i think i might change. Mel says that we can select across the 4 menus.

Have you gone into discussion with the florist already? do they limit the amount of flowers?

Eileen
U're helping ur fren plan her wedding? When's her AD? Admirable of u to help out when u're busy with ur own preps!
happy.gif

Vera Wang has very nice shoes, with an equally nice price tag to match! Way out of my budget sigh

Btw, the bomb cake may have been canele. Getting forgetful these days - only remember eating desserts but not where they are from!

Are u girls gg to view the setups this weekend? I'll give this viewing session a miss since i've seen the Tower setup a no of times already, both with and w/o top up. But do count me in for the Tue evening meetup with Dolly. Tks Eileen for organising. A meet up would be cooL!
happy.gif

Biba
Wow! So u actually had 2 cakes - Shang's cake and hubby's cake! Did u manage to finish them both? Kekeke... Am so very tempted to go to The Line buffet and eat their desserts again! Shall aim to reserve a table on the day we go down to meet Mel, so can eat lunch. Just looking at the desserts displayed there makes me go "gaga". My elderly ex-boss adores the coconut ice cream there, and has declared it "out of this world"! Hee

Cactus
Yes do update us on ur meeting with Mel. If u're really interested in the contract, u can make a tentative booking with Shang then cfm with a deposit later. We did tt. Cos FMIL wanted the shifu to pick a date, so we couldn't cfm the booking. But once we did, we emailed Mel to block off the date and came down to pay the deposit a fortnight later. Fingers crossed tt u can get ur choice of venue!

Suyin
I checked my contract and there's no mention of corkage for hard liquor. Seem to recall Mel saying tt no corkage would be charged for hard liquor. Any of u girls can cfm this?

What dishes did u like and dislike at the dinner? Update!

Counting down to food tasting. As u all can see, i am such a foodie and glutton. I desperately and truly hope tt my fren manages to locate the egg rolls and bring them back fr HK. If she does, i promise to bring them along for our outing when we meet Dolly! Cos good things are meant to be shared, just like chocolate ;)

Su yin,

I can't recall about the hard liquor part, but I'm pretty sure she'll waive it for you if you ask. It's quite unlikely to have too many bottles for a "normal" wedding, unlike wine. So do ask her. Ask and you might ask. Don't ask and you'll never get. So no harm trying.
happy.gif

The standard flower package is 3 blooms per table. Understand that additional flowers require a top-up. Will enquire further.

Count,

No, I'm not exactly helping her with the weddings... we're just looking out for things. If you really love the shoes, I think you can custom-make a similar pair at Leapin Lizards.
happy.gif

I'll probably drop by tomorrow evening to take a closer look + pictures. Otherwise, I can't recall a single thing.

Cactus_79,

Once you confirm a date, just make a tentative booking. Mel will inform you when to pay. It's not necessarily 2 weeks. Ours took some time as there's no one else interested in that date.
