Shangri-la Hotel

Haha, zann...not sure if my 'psycho-ing' will work. I just keep telling him, that confirm toilet washing is his job. LOL. For the rest of the household chores, I choose what I want to do, the rest...he do!

no lah...not so bad!
happy.gif
He just gives way to me.

hi gals!

can those of you who have bought/shopped for your wedding bands share with me where they are from? or any designer bands that you think look nice? thanks!
happy.gif

Hi ashie dear,

Highly recommend Fairy's Inc, though a bit costly for the platinum bands. Aspial also has some customized bands to be made in Switzerland or something like that. For more common ones can try Lee Hwa and Goldheart. Tiffanys if you want plain bands with the tiffanys brand.
happy.gif

hi ashie,
erm...I like Cartier. They have this platinum ring set with small diamonds that make up 1K!
Lovely.
anyways, I got mine from Janet Lee Joailiers. Excellent customer service and customised designs!

Hi ashie,

Fairy's Inc is a gd choice...very gd service and they can give u gd idea. Rem l saw a very nice ring at Bvlgari sometimes last yr...look for Fiona, very nice lady. I have some friends who brought their wedding band @ flower & larry, u may wan to take a look there.

hi everyone! long time no see! just found out that Shang is now working with Steffi's to do ballroom decor, same florist that works with the Ritz Carlton. Any idea if they're any good? I know the gals here seem to like JM quite alot!

hi gals.. thanks so much for your suggestions!!

seems like fairy's inc comes highly recommended
happy.gif
just curious, is it a local company? and when they say "custom-made rings" do you have any idea where they "custom make" those rings? sorry am being sceptical cos im afraid they might out-source it to m'sia or somewh to get the rings done cheaply. esp when i read that they allow for free re-coating within the first year.. i mean, shdn't the product be good enough tt it doesnt need coating after just one year? i know my parents' cartier watches which are gold-plated (not even pure gold) did not need coating for the longest time.. someone pls enlighten.. tks.

hi jaye,
act im eyeing a pair at cartier too.. the normal screw range they are known for. didnt see the platinium one ure talking abt.. can describe bit further? er, u sure it's 1k? cos the WG one is alr slightly over 1k....
btw, where's this Janet Lee Joailiers ure talking abt? gracious.. i cant even pronounce the third word.. ;p

hi choco cowgal,
wow, u sound like quite an expert alr
happy.gif

err, aspial n lee hwa is different? *scratch head* the made-in-switzerland one is it the jorn rainer range? those quite expensive.. btw where's yours from? or any tt ure eyeing alr?

hi germ,
hmm.. maybe i'll check out flower. it's the one at taka right? so your ring's from bvlgari? fiance n i stepped in briefly to take a look.. didnt see anythg we liked.. was kind of relieved cos evthg looked SO expensive!

thanks again gals! err.. if u can think of anymore pls update me k? thanks a million...
happy.gif

hi audia4,
sorry, cant comment cos my wedding in dec.. not into this prep yet. if they only just linked up with shang, then u may not find anyone with experience here.. why dont u pop over to the ritz thread to ask ard? they shd be able to give u better advice
happy.gif

Hi ashie,

I'm sorry l don't know where they custom made their rings from, didn't ask them. The 1 that l saw in bvlgari cost abt 1.8k...no, l got my wedding band from Tiffany.

Hi audia4,

I had a friend who used them for their ROM decor and it was very impressive...very well done. Maybe u can visit them to take a look at their venue decor pics.

hi ashie,
haha, my fiance and I have been out hunting for bands for the past few weeks lah. So far we are most drawn to Fairy's Inc, it is a local boutique specializing in customized wedding bands, just visited them last weekend (you need to call them for an appt), their bands are done locally, they claim to check on their rings at various stages of the manufacture, that is why they don't outsource to overseas factories. They allow free recoating, I think it is to change the colour of the ring sometimes. They have a very cool dark almost blackish coating that they can do to the rings. I know it is inauspicious, that was what I thought too until I saw those bands. Quite interesting. Sandra at the store even has her band and solitaire in that coating. They are not cheap either.

Anyway, Lee Hwa and Aspial carry different ranges for wedding bands and different 'brands' too. Jorn Rainer is at LH only, but I thought they were quite ugly *no offence* The customizable ones are at Aspial, not cheap also.

germ *no offence* I wasn't shown any other bands at Tiff's other than the plain ones. I'm not a fan of Tiffs anyway.
happy.gif

Hey new florist? I don't mind checking them out.

Hi choc_cowgirl,

Its ok....l'm not a very big fan of Tiffany 2..juz that at the time when l'm lookin for bands...a few of my cousins are lookin ard 2 and Tiff is the only 1 that they are not considering....so there l was buying my band.

hi ashie,

Think the third word is just pronounced as "jewelers" except spelt creatively?! Never actually asked...heh!
it's a small shop on the 2nd or 3rd floor at Shaw Centre. Look for Janet. =)

anyways, I meant that there are 9 or so small diamonds on the ring and prob adds up to 1 caret.. but it's not the wedding band collection and it's actually 18K white gold. Might not suit your criteria cos' it's not exactly a wedding band and not in platinum. =P

Let us know when u find the perfect ring. I believe that you will know it when u see it. heh!It will be just right.

Good Luck in your search...

hi germ,
oh i think i know which one you're talking abt.. happy for u tt uve found a band u both like!
happy.gif

hi chocolate cowgal,
on the other hand, i lurrrve tiffany's designs.. their silver collection i mean. their diamonds are too expensive to love
biggrin.gif
unfortunately couldn't find bands that both fiance n i like, so was quite disappted.
hmm.. sounds like you'll pretty much be getting yours from fairy's inc.. sounds good actually. so u be getting the black-coated ones? is it black gold? hehe.. that sounds funny ;p

hi jaye,
oh i see.. no wonder i didnt see it. actually the cartier one that we're keen on is WG too. we wanted PT, n even asked the lady if they cld customise that design for us in PT cos we worry abt the decolorisation of WG tt we so often hear abt. that's when she told us that that only happens for local brands like LH etc when WG is actually WG-coated while theirs is pure WG. when my fiance asked if they have guarantee, she said tt their shop is always there so we can always go back shd it ever decolorise. only after reaching home n learning from my parents tt they're known for their good quality jewellery, (even plated ones!) tt we felt so silly!!

hehe... sorry for rambling gals.. cant help but recount this lil story of mine while shopping for wedding bands
embarrassed.gif

anyway thanks everyone, for ur suggestions.. i'll sound out my fiance then let u know how it goes!

Hi gals,

Am interested in Shang as well. Any info on what's the package like for 2006? Pricing?

Thanks in advance.

hi ribbons,

you can always drop them a mail n request for the price list for 2006. and more importantly, to check if the date you're looking at is available. dont know if there's a price increase, but i booked my banquet for this dec and the price quoted me was 888+++ (8-course) and 999+++ (9-course). hope this helps a little
happy.gif

hi ashie,
met up with the planner yesterday. She offered the standard IF it's an upgrade then will be 1 nite stay...

btw, did any of you ask your coordinators for use of day room for your helpers? =P

hi jaye,
oh i see.. then it'll depend on what you and fiance want
happy.gif

hi choco cowgal,
jaye was talking abt upgrade of her suite from tower to garden wing.. so if she upgrades, it will be 1 nite stay instead of the usual 2nights we get for tower wing suite (so-called bridal suite).

hi ribbons,
ure welcome
happy.gif

hi choco cowgal,
yep.. ashie's right. If I opt for the garden valley then it will be only for 1 nite not 2.=)

how's ur wedding preps?
I have not even started looking for bridal boutique etc yet.

Hi Jaye,

Have u seen the suite in garden wing? Do u find alot of diff between the 2 room ( tower & garden wing rooms ).

Hey jaye, I was talking to Wendy, and I mentioned about the garden suite, she told me the same thing that if I opt for the garden valley, it will only be for 1 nite and not 2, she advised to stick to the normal tower wing suite as it is recently done up and it less far to walk to the ballrooms from when you go for outfit changes.
Did you get my private msg jaye?
Are you booking the island ballroom for your banquet??

hi choco cowgal,

oh they just did up the tower wing suite?? that's great news! cos ive been hearing a lot of comments that it's a great letdown as a bridal suite.. u made my day!
happy.gif

Hi choc_cowgirl,

Did u get to see the new tower wing suite? Did wendy mention anyting abt the Island ballroom goin to be renovated this yr?

Hi germ,

You were asking about the garden suite... the difference is probably that it is slightly bigger and that it has a resort feel to it. (u can actually imagine that you are at Rasa Shangri La Sentosa!)
No carpet in the room but wooden flooring. The furniture is ratten(?)

hmm, tt pretty sums up the difference.

hey germ and ashie,
the tower wing suite was already renovated when I saw it in Nov last year, but wendy said that it was done up not too long ago. I don't think that they would be renovating it further.
It is smaller than the other bridal suites in the other hotels, but contemporary. It is ok for me, cos my concern is that I do not want to walk too far to change as my wedding is on a sunday nite...don't want a draggy long dinner otherwise guests would start leaving halfway. And besides I will be staying at Shang for 3 nights, didn't want to pay too much more extra for the suite.

germ, I was told that island ballroom will be renovated this year and that it will be grander and more contemporary and that renovations would be completed by the time my wedding in Nov.

Hi ladies..

Iam interested to have my AD at Shangri-la in 2006. Could you all pls advice me on the min-max tables required? Are there a few ballrooms to choose from & how is their ballroom? Any comments on their food ? THX
wink.gif

hi germ,
yes, wendy also mentioned to me that the island ballroom will undergo reno this year during the chinese 7th month.

hi choco cowgal,
wow.. so ure gonna be using a brand new ballroom! you're blessed..
happy.gif

btw u managed to nego for 3 nights stay?

hi winterwhite,
welcome here! there are 2 ballrooms - the island and the tower. for island, u need a min of 55 and it can hold up to 100 comfortably. for tower u need a min of 35 and it can hold up to 55. there are a few other venues like the pavilion and waterfall terrace which are for small receptions/solemnizations. if im not wrong the max is only abt 10-12 tables. sorry cant comment on food cos ive heard too many varied responses for the dinners ive had there. all the best!

Hi Jaye,

If the size of both rooms is not much diff then l rather stick with tower wing...provided Shang is willing to give us the 1 bedroom suite.

Hi choc_cowgirl,

Is that's the case then it shd be the same room that l see last yr....the only disappointment is the size of the room..expect the suite to be much bigger. So, the reno is confirmed....do u know whether are they goin to change the carpet? Wonder when will they complete so that l can go take a look b4 l finalise my EG color.

Hi ashie,

Hope it can complete within the 7th mth ....

Hi ashie, thank you so much for replying my queries..you are very nice. Well, sounds like Shangri-la caters for larger quantity of tables..a little dispapponited as i am looking for a venue that hold about 30 tables..( try to have 35 tables..:p) Btw, are they coming up with a new ballroom? If yes, it will be nice if the min numbers of tables are not 35.

oh..How is the tower ballroom like? Is it as nice as the one featured in the magazine? Need some advices on the price range at this venue.. are they as ex as fullerton & ritz? Is this a 5 stars hotel?
wink.gif

Thx

hi winterwhite,

no probs at all!
happy.gif

oh act i forgot to mention that the 35 min is for weekend. if ure having yours on a weekday, then i think the min is less than that (maybe 30, im not sure). an alternative if you wont hit 35 in the end is that u take the more expensive menu. the clause is tt u must spend the amt for min 35 tables. dont know if the shortfall can be used for purchasing wine tho. tt may be ano way.

no new ballrooms, but the tower ballroom was recently renovated.. they've added a modern touch to it n i like it. u shd go down n take a look.. as for price.. er, i thought i just posted it somewhere..? anyway it's 888+++ for 8-course n 999+++ for 9-course. my friend had hers at ritz n said tt after all the +++, it was slightly less than 1000, so i guess it's slightly cheaper there. as for fullerton, im not sure. rates above are weekend rates.

i personally wld advise u to go take a look at the ballrooms ure interested in, then choose the one that makes u go 'wow'
happy.gif

hi girls!
ashie, I negotiated for a 2nd night, but I will be paying for my 3rd night as my banquet is on the second day and I do not intend to check out at noon the very next day.
happy.gif
btw, I'm using the tower ballroom, not island.
germ, not sure about the carpet, better ask your coordinator. Tho heard they are quite busy setting up the 'perfect wedding' thing with the link.

Hi Ashie & zann,

thank you so much for the useful advices. Will visit their ballrooms one of these days. Btw, wanna check with you gals, normally there are different florists to decorate the ballrooms right? Do we have to pay extra for the decorations or they are actually included? I have also read something like there are some waiver on corkage at some thread ( forgotten which one):p.. may i know how does this normally works? thx a bunch
wink.gif

hi choco cowgal,
oh i see.. wow, 3 nights at shang.. nice start to a married life!
happy.gif

hey, any idea what this 'perfect wedding' thing is abt? my impression is that it is a completely one-stop bridal service..

hi winterwhite,
yes there are a few florists tied up with shang and you can choose which one you wish to help with your wedding. the price is included but you'll have to pay extra if you want to have something elaborate. erm, sorry, no corkage waiver for shang.. mine's $40/bottle
sad.gif
but i think someone in this thread managed to nego for $15. you'll have to negotiate with your coordinator.

Hi choc_cowgirl,

Ya, tink l better ask Wendy cuz the last time she said tower ballroom not changing carpet but in the end, they change the carpet.

Me also wan to know what is this 'perfect wedding' tinggy is abt.

hi winterwhite,

as mentioned by ashie, the package includes ballroom decor unless you want to add on
a lot of other things or more expensive materials. Some florists are willing to include in
the package some may not, so is better to visit them and take a look at what they have
to offer and if you have some idea, convey to them what u want and they will be able
to advise you or whether they can do include it in or whether u have to pay extra.
I have no experience with the newer florists Shang has signed up but for JM Wedding,
Dolly is quite a flexible person and not restrictive abt the decor.

i havent got any corkage waiver either.

I heard that the 'white wedding' thingy is one stop bridal service at shangrila hotel. apparently one of the lower floors has been converted to a full fledged bridal place by the link. *shrug*

Hi Ladies,

Hi Ashie & Zann & chocolate cowgirl, thx alot for the updates. Are the different florists tied up with Shang or i can look for a seperate florist to decorate the place? If the corkage is $40/bottle, any rough idea how much would we normally required to pay in all? need a an estimation.

I agree that four season is a nice venue too, saw the pix on their ad, the ballroom looks lovely.. any advice pls share with me too.
email :[email protected] THX

biba, I will email you when I get home. I don't have the wedding stuff at work
happy.gif

winterwhite, the corkage charges are negotiable - from $15+++ to $40+++ per bottle...so far I think those are the rates we have gotten here. The total amount will depend on how many bottles you are bringing in right?
For the florist, shang has 3 contracted florists at the moment who have been doing the decors for shang. I remember my coordinator saying that if you want your own, they can probably minus out the portion of the fee that they pay their florist to pay you back as you would be paying for your florist yourself.
I was also considering 4 seasons at 1 point in time, but it wasn't able to take the number of tables I wanted which is around 40. Packing the 4 seasons ballroom to the max makes it quite cramped I must say ( attended 1 there), though it is beautiful.

forgot to mention that corkage charges for a number of bottles may also be negotiated to be waived...eg 20- means first 20 bottles no corkage charge. There are things that you can negotiate for politely at each hotel, of cos you may not get the best deal on every single aspect when compared to other brides, the coordinator cannot give EVERYTHING to one bride I guess. They are allowed to 'give way' a bit to each bride.

hi biba,
wow.. you're still deciding? hehe. reg four seasons, comment i heard from my fiance's colleagues were that the carpark is really small. so if you have a lot of guests who drive, it may be a problem. the last dinner they went to, some had to drive elsewhere to park their car then make their way there. im not speaking from personal experience tho, so you might want to check this out.

hi choc cowgirl,
yah that's the impression i got too.. some one-stop bridal place. hey your first apptmt with BS anytime soon?

hi winterwhite,
agree with choc cowgirl.. dont think you can get everything that every couple here got.. depending on what you intend to negotiate for, im sure they'll try their best to give it to you. that's my experience
