hi CG,
i am defencing myself now it because you are indirectly saying that i am trying to cheat ppl eto go the contractor. i am happy that you had voice out that you dun like.i did encourage the rest of the ladies to source for others and compare to. cos now most of them are doing this. incl me. The previous carpenter is bad ,due to rushing of work , but i told you many times, they had change a new one , so the one doing for me it ok. dun because one one case , you think every thing the same. furthermore, i accidentially post it twice for the mssg , i did not do it on purpose.
I had talk to chin leng before, he know i am working as. I am trying ot me nice to you , end up what happen??? every contractors some how or the other will mess up some of their job, none is prefect. Bare in mind.
Those who had a lot experience , they also had gone through the thick and thin. It is the attitude towards customer and the sincerely. think twice.
Dun even look down of pple and dun juge pple due to your instinct, or how you feel.

hi yan yan,

i do not wish to further discuss this as i've made my stand pretty clear that i've nvr for once said u cheated. i'm just saying u might hv 'over promoted' yr contractor even if he's ok. i did also express my appreciation & thks to u for sharing yr quotation....

sigh...u r getting too worked out to even read my msg carefully. i did not even insinuate that i look down on yr contractor! this i leave to the rest of people to judge.

i told u i'll rest the case. period.

Hi CG,
Me too, let to rest the matter, cos i find that there is no point arguing with you, cos i believe in human right. Since you have bad impression of the contractor, so be it. Hope before you say anything , think twice frist. All the best in your renovation of the dream home.

This teach me a lesson , do not be too helpful end by will by acuse by pple, like above.

CG,
I am not actually very frustrating about what you say on your sharing of your ideas. Sometimes it the words you have written on it. If my words are offending you, i am so sorry. but dun get me no. I am not trying to sale my contractor. dun get the wrong idea. cos it will lead to alot of qustioning. very tired one. handling one person questioning is very tired , handling all of them worst.
by the way, alomost every contractors, when they do a project will deem to have alot of complain from the owner, by one important is the final result must be accepted by the owner. right!!!!
(p/si actually wanted to write hope you will not complain about your contractors , not you will complain about them. forgot about the NOt.haha)
all the best.

Renovating your house is stressful, considering the amount of money you are going to spend and the end result is going to be what you have chosen, decided and designed.

Enjoy your renovation!

Hi, bonjour

I agree with the way you source for contractor. I think renovation is very individual, everyone should told to the designer/contractor themshelve b4 signing up.

Hi

if the contractor recommend to you is from space elements, please avoid. they are irresponsible and once you sign wif them, it is very hard to contact them.

Hi angry,

thanks for sharing your info.

matter of fact, my cousin let her other side of cousin to do her reno. in the end, we found out that cousin actually "eat" up more money than he should. now then i know even relatives can't be trusted when it comes to $$$!

NEVER feel pressured to sign with any contractor until you are very satisfied with their work etc.

Hi there, can anyone advise if it is realistic to do the following for a tight budget of about 8k:

- simple design to the living room with L Box
- washing of marble floor and kitchen/toilet tiles
- painting works for whole apartment

Hi Shlee,

A friend of mine recently had her condo at Changi Rise renovated with similar items like yours but below 8k. If you want, send me an email at [email protected] and I'll forward it to her to get her contact and quote.

Shlee,

I dunno how much it costs to wash the marble floor and kitchen/toilet tiles, but unless you are planning a lot of carpentry and/or lighting in your living, I think it should be okay.

My fren at painted his condo in Bishan Loft for $1.2K with 5 colors and did the L-Box for his living/dining for about $800...

yeah .. my personal feel is that the condo is already in good condition, so wouldn't need a lot of renovation. thanks for all the valuable info!

I'm wondering if a contractor could do up the house resulting an ID "designed-like" house.. such as those stylish kitchens, cabinets, display, L-Box.. Cos if so, i am planning to come up with my own design (stolen from magazines hehe) to let the contractor do it. Is really cheaper in this way? Any reliable contractor to recommend? My email is [email protected]

Looking at the postings, I am pleased to find so many friendly and helpful people here.
But I have a concern.
The sharing of quotations. I don't think it is very ethical to share a contractor's quotations with just about anybody. Some of the members here may be contractors themselves for all you know.
I think it is better we just share our reno experience and the contractors performance/quality etc.... just my opinion.

Hi guys & gals,

I m new here & a contractor myself. I agree very much 2 wat explorer had mentioned. Actuali, who 2 engage, depends on how comfortable & confident u r with the contractor. It's never worth it 2 get into dispute or make urself unhappy with ur contractor in the end even if u can get the cheapest qoute in th beginning.

No offence but just my 2 cents worth opinion.

hi stars,
so roughly how much u spent for yr DIY reno ? I also thinking of doing it myself, coz i dun want any special design, so need not use ID.

Also can share with me, what are some difficulties you encounter with difft contractors ?

many thanks

Hi Singa,

My hubby is the one who coordinates with the contractors and hence i am not sure what difficulties he encounter. Well all i can say is that we save a total of 20K by doing it ourselves and the quality and workmanship of the carpenter and contractors are reali good..
happy.gif

Did u manage to find a carpenter etc already? If not, i can intro mine to u..maybe u can get a quote from him and see if it is good. But mine is not the cheapest as we want someone who is honest and good quality at affordable price.

i see..

nope, i have only spoken to 2 IDs currently. But have not signed up with any yet.

Coz i was thinking, since i dun want any fanciful design, i can DIY myself. But its just the hassle of having to find carpenters, plumber, electrician, tilers, etc...

Coz i am doing very minimal, so i guess it shld not be too difficult. its just how to get started

Singa,

Then i would think that u dun need an ID since u also know the design that u want. Dun forget them by engaging a ID, u will end up paying more coz an ID will ultimately out source to a contractor who will then out source to a sub contractor. That is y for us, we already know what we want and we din want to pay extra for a design that we will give them and hence we went to look for a sub-contractor ourselves to reduce our cost and to ensure the quality is there. I dun see a point to pay so much to a ID when i can get it cheaper if i can go directly to a sub-contractor..That is juz how we feel. Well end up, our home is very nicely decorated and good quality and workmanship. The carpenter is actually recommended to me by someone too..
happy.gif

If u reali need to look for a carpenter, i can give u my carpenter contact n u can get a quote n decide from there...

Juz PM me if u want..

Hi Winnie, will PM u shortly

Cheers

Hi all!

Those who need a renovation contractor contact me at [email protected]

My contractor charges very reasonably and provide excellent services as well. But u got to be a little pushy when it comes to pricing to get the tip top price. I paid $17K for everything. From ceiling to kitchen to toilet!

I would also like to recommend my contractor due to his good response and work ethic. He's actually recommended to me by a friend and i was enocuraged by one particular incident which showed me his after-sales customer service.

My friend did his home about a year plus ago already, but recently, his son dropped something on the tile and somehow managed to cause a chip off. After telling this contractor, he actually went to replace the offending tile without charge for my friend.

He just said that since its something he can do within his capability, he will do it, since the house is still a reflection of his work. Pride in his work.

Thats what prompted me to sign up with him also. Cos his workmanship is good and he is very patient.
