Hello all, I saw a fair amount of both good and bad reviews about Mrs Chua Swee Tin, and I personally had a bad encounter with her over the phone.
I personally feel that even if someone is an experienced solemniser, every couple should still be treated with patience and a fresh approach, as we are all first-timers going through the marriage application process.
Regarding the marriage date, sometimes it is not just about couples picking a date casually. Some of us consult feng shui masters to select an auspicious date for a smooth marriage. In my case, the date falls on a public holiday. We did not expect sarcastic remarks—if it was not suitable, a polite rejection would have been enough.
Regarding the transportation request, while I understand there is no obligation to provide it, I felt this should not be used as a condition to reject a couple’s invitation. After all, being a solemniser is a voluntary role rather than a transactional one.
In the end, Mrs Chua Swee Tin and I were not able to come to a mutual agreement, and she will not be our solemniser. I believe it is better to part ways early so that our wedding experience is not affected. As of now, the invitation on the ROM website has not been formally declined following our telephone conversation and my follow-up email. For couples who may not be aware, a $25 change fee may apply unless the solemniser has formally declined the invitation.
I am sharing this for other couples who are considering inviting her—please be aware that communication style and expectations may vary.
