JP - Chan Kai Yau

Mr Chan also called me yesterday to tell me that he cannot make it for my solemnisation too.

I previously booked him at 12.15pm.

You better go grab a solemniser fast. I got mine already but have to shift to 1pm instead of 12+.

yup, it's me baby baby! furnana, halo!!

heng mr chan was not late that night. in fact, he was early. as my grandma was late, he waited a while (5- 10 mins) before commencing. imagine how kan cheong i was!

but everything went on well. my guests commented that he was really good. humourous as well. he made me repeated I do again, saying something wrong with mic and ppl cannot hear. also, asked us to kiss longer for the photographer. but hee...think that's the tricks he used on all couples! haha! everyone said I have made the right choice and they really enjoyed the process, not boring at all! so glad.

as for his cancellation, maybe he must have some last min urgent matters to attend to. sorry to hear that gals.
 
I met up with JP chan on 16 Jan, our solemnization on 01 Feb. He's pretty nice, talked insurance (FH in insurance) and counselling (me in counselling) to us, and asked if I do marriage counselling. More topics on insurance though.

Signed the consent paper leow, means confirmed leow right?

I was trying to get Mrs Chia initially, but she said I called too early, so she asked me to go ahead get another JP, so I called JP Chan (called him first actually, no one answer). He asked me to proceed to efile (was eligible to efile at that time) so I did.
 
helo, can someone adv me are we suppose to call Mr Chan up to request for his license # (as it is required for e-filing) or he will call us 3 months before our e-filing? Usually is the meet up for him to sign consent form before or after e-filng?..I've booked him for 5 May 07 and not sure of the procedure...Hope someone can adv me. thanks!!
 
Hi JK,

You may call to request from Mr Chan his license number before you e-file. He will meet you after you efile. Not to worry. = )

How many months in advance do we need to book a JP? My wedding is in Nov 2007...not sure if it's to kiasu to book one now hehe

Just to check, do we need to give Mr Chan the time for the solemnisation? Mine is in Nov, have not really plan for the actual event yet.
 
Hi blurblur,

Mr Chan is a very popular JP. So if you want to get him as solemniser, it is advisable to contact him early with the details like time and venue, esp if your wedding is on weekends or hot dates.
Sometimes, he has to solemnise a few couples in a day.
 
helo all, we actually efile before getting Mr Chan to sign the consent form, my HTb called him and he gave us his license #. Just to check , is that the correct procedure. Me a bit confused now. ha...seems like we have efiled too early..our Rom is on 5 May 07. Cansomeone adv?n next step is to meet up with Mr Chan to sign the consent form? Who will be collecing the necessary documents from ROM?
 
Hi JK,

You need to submit the consent form when you and your partner go down to the ROM to do Statutory Declaration and collect the necessary documents at the same time. I believe you have received a allocated date and time to go down to ROM to do Statutory Declaration, rite?
So you will have to get the consent form from Mr Chan.

That's kinda of weird. Becoz the other time when I efile for my ROM, we receive the date and time for Statutory Declaration at the end of the efile process.
It is shown together with the instruction page which we have to print out and bring to ROM.
Btw, my ROM was not at the registry. So if yours is at the registry, it might be a different procedure (not sure abt this tho')
 
Yeah..just called Mr Chan and he gladly accepts my invitation to be the solemniser~!~! *excited*

Will be joining you brides/grooms khakis soon as my wedding also to hold in Nov! :-)
 
Hi, Anyone try calling MR Chan lately, My ROM is on 15 mar 2007. I called him a few weeks ago and he agreed to be my solemniser but till now i havent receive any call from him to meet him up to let him sign the form. I try to call 62356143 and is always engage. Can someone give me advise. Really in dilemma whether shall i find another Solemniser now. But my efile already stated his Number and name. How.. please give me advise

my ROM will b in Oct this yr... and am thinking of getting Mr Chan as my JP.
Would it be too early to give him a call in April just to softbook his time? He's quite popular so am afraid that he may not be able to make it. But then again we cant efile until 3 months b4 our date...

Any advise on the lead time to give Mr Chan a call? Tks!
 
Had my ROM last Sunday...Mr.Chan's really entertaining...am really glad to have him as my JP...no worries ladies...u gals r in gd hands!
 
I just had my ROM last sat. I don't know why, but Mr chan just plainly did his part. Those event that told by other forumers, did not happen on me. =/
 
i called mr chan today to bk him for my ROM on june, but he said tat he is fully booked on tat day... so sad

so gals, if ur wanna him to be ur solemnisar, muz bk him early.
 
I called Mr Chan early this week, and he mentioned that my ROM date is still far off...

But anyway... he kinda agreed to it I suppose... he didnt outright say yes, but he did note down my number, name, details... And said that nothing needs to be done after 7 Jul... so I will call him again after that.

Sky - o dear... so now u hv to look for hunt for another JP... Hope tt u can get somebody else soon.
 
Hi, we spoke with Mr Chan on the phone and he sounded really stern and unfriendly. Kinda worried as I guess it is important to have a nice solemniser for your ROM bah...Can someone adv me is he like tat in real person?
 
hi JK i also called him and he also sound unfriendly,but view previous thread in real person he is quite ok..i hope so..
 
he is not the very comical kind but i assure you, he's great when he solemnises.

when i met him outside borders, he's quite firm and solemn. but at the ceremony, he cracked all my guests up!
 
Read a lot of positives about Mr Chan, and I known a couple who actually had him for their solemnisation, and they had all the praises for him. Although when I spoke to him over the phone, he sounded quite stern too... and well yeah... made my heart BEAT like so scary!
 
hello, my bf and I have met up with Mr Chan on Monday. He is different in person, friendlier than on the phone. hehe.. more relieved after seeing him. looking forward to our ROM with him solemnising our marriage...hehe..
