Intercontinental Singapore

Hi, all

I am new to this thread.. I had chosen Intercon for my AD.. Had done a tentative booking for 1 Oct 08.

I like the ballroom.. its very very nice.. Every themes are so nice.. Like the charming elegance theme but prefer the wedding flavours for the oriental splendour.. Is it very funny if i choose the oriental splendour but the march in songs doesnt match the theme? Pls advise.

I also find that intercon is quite stingy on their perks.. cant seems to get anything addtional on top of what was already given.. Any experience to share? Wat else can we ask for on top of the normal perks?

Was told by Jane that we need to put a deposit of 5K if we really confirm on the date. Can this amt be reduced to $3K?

Hi Sunshine,

I think deposit cant be negotiated.

As for perks, its very hard to squeeze much from them. Just make your request.

And see how it goes.

Congrats on your big day!!. Welcome to IC Thread

Hi, Darkwing

Yeah.. its very very hard to squeeze from them.. i squeeze none from them.. sad..
sad.gif
And for the deposit, it cannot be negotiated as well. Jane said that she can collect 3K from us and the next mth, she will collect another 2K..

I am considering Meritius Mandarin as well.. The ballroom is not as grand as IC but their package and perks are certainly more comprehensive.. Headache headache.. planning for wedding is such a chore!

The only perks we managed to squeeze from them are 40L beer instead of 20L. 70% invitation cards and complimentary parking coupons for 25% of guests and a day-use room for our helpers from 2-6pm.
Other than that, very very hard to negotiate with them. We got the extra perks with the former banquet mgr, Michelle.

Hi all,

I am very keen in the IC ballroom, anyone have any pictures to share? Very keen in dec 08 and are there any wedding coordinators whom i can negotiate with?

Rick>> 1 of my friends took this pic during a wedding dinner.. Hope this helps!

Rayne>> I think most of these gd hotels are quite stingy wif their perks.. I guess I may switch to meritus mandarin becos their perks are better.. but i certainly love IC's ballroom...

Rick>> U are in the 1st stage of wedding preparations? I wld advise u to for more wedding shows.. cos i heard can get more perks if u sign up at wedding shows... I asked Jane and realised tat IC is NOT having 1 soon.. Meritus Mandarin is having their wedding show in Jan 08..

How much did u guys set aside to ensure that you have enough $$ for the wedding IE to cover for the losses and all the other wedding expenditure? Hubby told me last nite tat our finacial is a bit tight.. cos we only have abt $35K.. Is tat enough for a wedding?

Hi Sunshine,

It all depends how you managed it.

Do you have a house to do?? reno?

It depends greatly on the must haves and wants.

Happy planning.

hi all. i've booked IC for my AD in Oct 2008.
just wanna check with those who already had their AD dinner at IC... do they dimmed the lights for your march-ins?

Hi Sunshine,

should be enough .. As there are still ang bao to account for.

For wedding banquet. 35K is more than enough. And you only settle you bills after the entire event.

You can also request to make the full payment first. Then the outstanding bills later when you check out.

Hope it helps

Hi all,

I am interested in having IC as my venue. My fren who held his banquet there recommended it to me. Does anyone know if they will be having wedding show in near future? TIA!

Hi guys!!!

Went to BOWS today and was very surprised to see IC's booth there... If u guys are interested, may want to drop by and see.. cos if sign up at wedding shows, u are sure to get more perks.

Rick>> The deposit is 5K, right? So, when is ur big day?

In the end, i did not take IC because after counting, we need 45 tables at least and IC can only accomodate 40 max. So, we took holiday Inn Atrium instead.. Also confirmed with HIA by paying a 3K deposit. Happy with HIA becos they could offer the perks which we want like 1 bottle of wine per table and free flow of beer..

Would say there are quite a lot of gd deals found at BOWS.

For those who had yet to go BOWS, just an advice.. MUST squeeze the hotels and studios dry dry there.. :P Cos this is definitely a good time.. I also sign up PG and VG for actual day..

Hi Friends,

I would like to consider IC for my wedding banquet. Can someone kindly share
a) what's the minimum number of tabes required, and in which ballroom ?
b) some pics of the recep area, banquet hall and bridal suite.

I know about BOWS 08 and signed up, but was not informed IC will be there. As the hotels I was interested, eg IC, were not indicated to be there, I din go....sob, sob....should have gone there to get good deal/perks & all above requested info. Anyway, hope someone will share with me. Thanks.

Hey Ollie & Rainbow,
Congrats on your wedding. Hoping to see your AD pics of the banquet soon if possible. =)

Hi Angelmara,
Intercon has only 1 ballroom which is the Bugis Grand Ballroom. This gives all couples who hold their banquet there the exclusivity. For an intimate wedding party of up to 100 guests, there's the Bugis vault at the basement. But i tell you, nothing can beat the ballroom when you step into it. U shld go take a look and have a feel of it. ;)

For weekdays dinner, min 27 tables. Weekends (Fri, Sun & PH), min 32 tables. Weekends (Sat & eve of PH), min 35 tables.

Hi Sunshine,
Weekend dinner PH $868++ per table.

Do note that intercon charges extra for auspicious and very auspicious dates.

Hi Melody,
I signed up without asking for extra perks too. Sigh...don't think there's much we can do since we've already signed the contract.

Me and HTB went to the BOWS on Sunday and are VERY DISAPPOINTED with the InterContinental's service.

Firstly, the staff, YZ, serving us doesn't seem to know much when we ask her questions. She said she will get back to us and until today, there is no news! I had to call the hotel today and only then was I told that the Banquet pricing are only applicable during the BOWS 3 days, a CRUCIAL fact that YZ FAILED to point out to us. It is also a fact that would have affected our decision to sign up on the spot or not!

At BOWS, YZ did explain to us that she is a stand-in for somebody and that's why she can’t answer much of our queries. At that point of time, we were not impressed that our questions could not be answered on the spot but also understand her situation. However, when I call InterContinental today and mentioned this FACT, the person (Stephanie) told me otherwise and insists that YZ should know. We feel offended by the tone Stephanie uses, as if she is implying we made this up! From this conversation with her, it makes me and HTB feel that InterContinental is not very reliable, are they!

Also, if the promos and pricing is only valid for that 3 days, why bother to make us fill in a Queries form with the promise of getting back to us (IN VAIN) when the perks & pricing would have expired by then? Isn't the pricing one of the decisive factor for our interest in signing up with a hotel? If by the time InterContinental get back to us would be the time the price has increased (in this case they tell you the price has increased but can’t tell you by how much), then we don't see a point in signing up anymore.

From this incident, we conclude that if InterContinental doesn’t have much coordination and professionalism to start with, we can’t even bear to think of the way they handle our wedding if we were to sign up!

Seriously, Hotel InterContinental doesn't offer much in their wedding package and thus their 2007 price is still relatively reasonable, but if they were to increase their price for 2008, then they better offer more perks for couples who sign up, or else, my advice would be you'll be better off with other hotels who will be MORE THAN WILLING to accommodate and serve you, and most importantly, WANT YOUR BUSINESS.

hmmm the ballroom certainly looks good... but i think hotels need to be more accommodating (ironic how they are supposed to be "accommodations" but not very accommodating sometimes... haha just being lame ;p) esp for perks... it's not a small amount of money that we are spending and some more every year they just increase $50 or more per table just like that... i was considering hotel intercon but if they are so strict on their perks, means the $+++ will be even more exp... no point man... my bro-in-law had theirs there and lugi about $7K...

missdaffy, sorry to hear about your bad experience.

but probably the whole bad experience was probably because of 1-2 black sheep from that hotel (e.g. the stand in YZ)

But regarding perks, please understand that 5 stars and above hotels do not just give perks based on your haggling skills because it is only FAIR.
I have asked Fullerton, Oriental and the likes of such hotels... they are the same as Hotel Intercontinental.

At the end of the day, you must consider what is the most important to you.
- Ballroom Ambience?
- Food?
- Service?
- Can earn?
- Many perks?

For me, the Ballroom Ambience is the most important to me, that is why I am willing to pay a high price for the place itself.

And based on general feedbacks from those who actually attend a wedding there, the food portion is generous and the ambience is awesome. So that is good enough for me.

Sway Sway IF the service, food sucks and I lose alot of $$$, I will still be happy cos I am getting married and walking down the aisle in the most beautiful ballrom in my opinion.
That's the memory I will like to keep in my heart.

Hi woo83fy,

Thanks... I also agree that InterContinental do have one of the most beautiful ballrooms around that's why I tried very hard to convinced my other half to sign up with them...It's just too bad they chose to display such service standard unbefitting of a 5 star hotel. (Are you sure they are? =P)

Anyway, Me and hubby has already decided to sign with Shangri-La. Their service and professionalism... one word: WOW. :DDD

missdaffy,

i am not v sure but i was told by pple it is.

anyway prestigue is not my concern, as i will have gone for an ulu place if it is the most beautiful to me.

=) anyway congrats for choosing the venue at Shangri-La, i would have consider if i can meet their minimum of ~50 tables for their grand ballroom. its nice!

missdaffy (missdaffy) : Shangri-La very accomodating to what you want? like additional perks etc?

Anyway i am overall still happy to choose IC overall coz i got the ballroom i want and despite the perks are non negotiable ;)

woo83fy: Yes the Island ballroom is very grand and beautiful!! but we don't have so many guests so will be settling for Tower ballroom instead. Anyway, happy for you that you will be holding your wedding in one of the prettiest ballroom around! ^^

Rick: We haven't got to the negotiating for perks part, but talks with Shang has been great. So far they have been very accomodating to our requests and we are very happy with their service.
happy.gif
Anyway, if you read from Shang forum, Shang is not very stingy on their perks.

I just finished my wedding yesterday at IC. Everything turned out great and the staff were very accommodating and attentive to our needs too. The 1st march-in dry ice effect was stunning. The whole ballroom was romantic in the dimmed lights, we had a great time and was glad we went with IC in the end

hi rayne, can u share ur pics and all with me, the in charge say will send me the wedding package but still dint hear from her since.. can u pls pm me ur link.. ttkss.

Rick: I guess if you haven't sign you can try to nego for more perks, but like what you said not easy to nego much. What's most impt is you're happy to get the ballroom you want. =)

Hey Rayne, congrats on your wedding. Guess the rest of us are waiting eagerly for our turn. Which theme did you select? PM me your AD photos link when ready too ya, if you're intending to share it. =)

Hi renel, thanks
happy.gif

I selected the charming elegance theme with ivory and champagne flowers. The ballroom set-up right down to the waiters and waitresses were perfect. It was so magical, we had such wonderful memories. Never regretted selecting IC
happy.gif

will share the photos once it's ready!

Hi Rayne,
That's lovely. The ballroom was the main reason we chose IC. Am glad to hear that the serving staff were of the standard too.
happy.gif

Just to check, when the food is served, are the lights still dimmed or will it be turned on brighter? Are the lights dimmed only for march-ins? How was the sound system?

Ya the lights were dimmed during the serving of the 1st dish, if you have special requirements, i think u can let the banquet coordinator know. I didn't really take note of the lighting when we marched in, i think it was dimmed as well. Haha sorry, too nervous trying not to trip over my gown and.

Sound system is good, up to standard. Don't worry, I thought they did a good job for our wedding. Everything turned out fine. You need to go test the sound system and AV a week before your wedding, so if there's anything not up to standard , there's still time to feedback to the banquet mgr
happy.gif

haha...ok thx.
happy.gif

Can imagine the nervousness of having 300+ people looking at you during your march-in..and it's a long march-in too.

haha it wasn't the 300+ people that made me nervous but rather the thought of tripping and falling flat on my face that made me nervous :p

The bridal suite was huge and comfy, unfortunately we only get to spend one night there...would have loved to spend one more night! :p
